Event Character Scramble 11 Round 1C: Only You Can Prevent Forest Fights!

The Character Scramble is a bloodmatch tournament where people compete to analyze unique matchups and scenarios and write the best story they can. At the beginning, everyone submits characters that meet the guidelines, then those characters are randomized and distributed evenly. From then on, each week there's a new writing prompt for everyone to follow. At the end of the week, everyone votes for who they think should advance, until we have our winner at the end. The winner at the end of the tournament gets to choose the theme, tier, and rules of the next scramble, along with a sweet custom flair as their reward. The current theme is based on the anime Shaman King, and the current tier is anywhere from 2/10 to 8/10 Alex Louis Armstrong for Shaman tier and Senator Armstrong for Spirit tier.

Round 1C is matches 13-20. Time to wrap it up!

Your guide explained the next leg of your trip from here on out.

“North of here you will find the Mesa Verde National Park. Inside the park there is a Puebloan ancestral site known as the Cliff Palace. It is there you will find the Patch Village.”

They had neglected the mention the park was 81 miles across.

A light snow fell as you wandered through the forest, getting more and more lost with every step.

You were sure you'd passed that tree before and the footprints in the snow confirmed it. Too concerned with figuring out a way to get back on track, you didn't hear the forestry truck rolling up behind you.

You did however hear the yelling.

“The hell are you doing out here alone? There’s a bear in the area, get in the truck!” A blonde woman with long braids shouted from the driver’s seat. Ok, beats walking in circles.

You hop in and explain your situation as Bluebell drives. You casually neglect to mention the Shaman Fight, just that you're heading for the Mesa.

“Mesa Verde? Yeah, it’s not far from here. I’ll drop you off outside the danger zone and you can walk the rest of the way. Name’s Bluebell Bloch by the way, I’m the park ranger for these parts.”

Well, that’s frustrating. Better than nothing though.

“Bluebell, come in.” A voice rattled out. “Apollo is attacking a hunter just north of your current location. If you’re going to stop him, you need to get there fast.”

Apollo?

The ranger yanked the wheel of the truck, nearly turning over on the abrupt turn, explaining before you ever asked. “The bear that’s been roaming the area. Me and my father raised it, protecting him is why I became a park ranger. Help me keep him safe and I’ll take you all the way to Mesa!”

At the speed she was driving, it didn’t take long at all to find Apollo and after seeing him you wondered if he even really needed protection. Standing more than 10 foot tall on his hind legs, the massive bear loomed over the hapless hunter who seemed to be standing their ground.

Ah hell, is that an Oracle Bell on their arm. Yep, it is.

"Don't let Apollo hurt them! He will calm down if you run away!" Bluebell shouted, trying to draw the beasts attention.

You hopped out of the truck ready for another fight. Keep a giant bear safe while beating up a shaman with unknown abilities so you don't have to walk in the snow? Sounds like a plan.

Normal Rules:

The Great Spirit Has Summoned You : But who are you? Give a brief summary of your characters.

YOU Will be the Shaman King: Tell us a tale of your conquest of the Shaman Fight. Even if your odds are 1 in 100, tell us how the 1 goes down!

The Spirits are Restless: Characters are assumed to be at the same power level they started the tournament. Namely, no looting your opponents after you beat them.

There is Plenty of Time to Tell the Tale : In this season of new things, we're going to try something else; Post Limits. From the Prelim Round on there will be a limit of 50,000 characters/5 full Reddit posts growing as the Scramble progresses. Please keep in mind analysis/intros DO NOT count toward this limit.

But the Great Spirit is Restless : You have 14 days to complete your Round post and continue to the Shaman Fight. Writeups will be due in the AM hours of 4/10

Round Specific Rules:

Oh No, Apollo!: If someone happens to that bear, Bluebell is not going to take you to your destination and you'll be stuck walking. Also, you don't know exactly where Mesa Verde is. Long story short, don't let anything happen to the bear.

Flavor Rules

Where'd That Other Guy Go?: For you Round 1A guys, how has your trip been since you left Lilirara's house? For 1B, why'd you split up from the trucker? Anyone who hasn't went yet, how'd you get in these woods in the first place?

I Can Still Fly, You Know: Yeah, yeah, you can fly, a forest isn't much of a threat, awesome. You still need Bluebell's direction, and that means helping her protect Apollo. how's that

Team "Wins By Doing Absolutely Nothing"

Theme

Shaman Luigi - Theme - The brother of Mario, Luigi lives in the shadow of his heroic sibling. This suits him just fine, as he loves his brother and tends to be much more cowardly and unsure of himself (especially when it comes to ghosts). However when push comes to shove he can prove to be just as big of a hero as the red capped plumber. Like Mario, Luigi is strong enough to shatter brick, can jump even higher than his brother can, and has a large variety of power ups and equipment to increase his capabilities.

Spirit Accelerator - Theme - From A Certain Magical Index, Accelerator is the first ranked level 5 esper in Academy City. His power is the ability to manipulate vectors, which is exactly as broken as it sounds. At first he had no limit to this ability, but after taking brain damage he requires a connection to the Misaka network to perform those calculations. Accelerator was once a psychotic killer, but is now a psychotic killer trying to be a hero... in his own way.

Again, thanks to Kiwiarms for the Accelerator image

Team Inadequate Vaginas

Shaman Demona From the show Gargoyles, Demona is... well... a gargoyle. Originally the partner of Goliath in 10th century Scotland, she helped to defend a human castle. However due to her distrust of humans she betrayed the castle to a group of vikings... who proceeded to kill nearly all of the gargoyles while ransacking the castle. After some events involving witches and Macbeth (yes, that Macbeth), she was cursed with immortality. Feeling that humans deserved extermination, she spent centuries plotting ways to wipe out the human race for her vengeance.

Spirit Hela From the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hela is the firstborn child of Odin and the Asgardian Goddess of Death. Leading Odin's armies, she forged a path of devastation and violence to conquer and subjugate the nine realms. After this however Odin wanted to give up on his violent ways, and when Hela disagreed she was sealed away. After the death of Odin she was freed and, after dealing with her brothers Thor and Loki, she returned to Asgard. Growing stronger the longer she stayed there, she sought to raise an undead army to conquer all her forces could reach.

World 2

Mesa Verde national park is an expanse of approximately 81 square miles of wilderness and archeological sites. Most well-known for its Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings, this park sees many visitors coming to marvel at the ancient works of architecture, or just the wonderful landscape. And as night began to fall upon the Colorado expanse, a new group of visitors were approaching from the north, heading west along US 160.

This was the Hells Clichés, a notorious (but rather unfortunately named) biker gang that operated in the mid-west. A group of four Harleys pulled off to the side of the highway, sputtering to a stop as their headlights illuminated the rapidly dimming grass and dirt. Each one sported a leather jacket, weapon of some sort, and rippling muscles. It was truly as if they were little more than a hackneyed writer’s stereotypical view of a biker gang brought to life.

“That should be far enough,” a voice spoke from one of the motorcycles, carried by a heavy Italian accent.

All of the bikers quickly recoiled at him speaking. They had learned very quickly over the past few days to follow whatever he said, lest they face the wrath of the Man Who Does Absolutely Nothing.

It had been scarcely a week since the man had come through the door of their favorite tavern, rambling to himself about some obscure tribe in the area. A few of the younger members decided to try and take a swing at him… only to fall flat on their ass without landing a strike. This caused a few more members to try… and meet the same fate. In a few minutes the entire gang was on the floor without any effort from the man, who looked on with a confused expression that they could only interpret as you’re not worth my time.

Luckily the boss happened to know of this “Patch tribe” the man seemed so insistent about, and thus they had managed to placate him without too much indirect bloodshed.

“Are you sure?” the bravest of the bikers questioned. “We can take you into the park.”

“No,” Luigi responded absentmindedly. “I don’t know where it is so I’d be better off checking on my own. Do you owe you nice fellows anything?”

“You are way too nice for your own good,” Accelerator muttered, the boy’s spirit floating just to the side of Luigi’s body.

Luigi looked at his spirit curiously. “What do you mean? They were nice to me so I was just being nice back.”

Accelerator raised an eyebrow. “You have a really strange definition of friendly”

The bikers looked on nervously as the man in grey and white stripes seemed to talk to no one. They had gotten used to him talking to himself, but it didn’t make it any more unsettling. Seeing an opportunity to escape from the madman, they gunned their motorcycles and in a moment they were dots on the horizon.

Luigi reached after them in a futile attempt to call them back, but then shrugged and looked back towards the park. Apparently he couldn’t make much out of the low angle of the trees and mountains, as he immediately his attention to his spirit. “Would mind giving me some of your power? It would make searching much easier.”

“God damn it,” Accelerator muttered as he rubbed the spectral bridge of his nose. “For a total coward you sure got used to this fast.”

“Well meeting a magical item that gives us special powers in order to save the day is nothing new,” Luigi replied with a shrug. “Why just recently my bro teamed up with a talking hat to save the world.”

Accelerator grimaced. “Enough about your bro! If you shut up about him I’ll give you a boost.”

Luigi frowned slightly, but quieted up. There was always more time to discuss his bro. He crouched down, readying his already impressive jump power. Then he pressed the button on his nose. The ground cratered beneath his feat as he set off, Accelerator’s manipulations sending him flying over the forest.

A few miles south of where the plumber leaped into the sky, there was a fairly unassuming ranger station. It was little more than a couple cabins and an office where the rangers could do their work and relax away from the tourists. As such, there wasn’t really a reason for anyone beyond a ranger to visit.

As one of the rangers stepped out the back door of the office and lit up a cigarette, he thought he caught site of someone nearby. Idly glancing to the side, he spotted a pair of leathery wings taking flight over the forest. Writing it off as a bat, he finished his smoke break and stepped back inside.

However if had looked a bit more closely he might have noticed that the wings were much larger than those belonging to any species of bat known to science. If he had looked even closer, he would have noticed that the body the wings were attached to was decidedly humanoid. And if he had looked really closely, he would have seen that the humanoid figure was staring at him with a murderous glare.

“Finally,” the figure spoke as she perched upon the branch of a nearby tree. In addition to her bat-like wings she possessed skin as grey as stone, piercing red eyes, fanged teeth, and little more than rags to cover her skin. “The sun has set, and I no longer possesses that loathsome human form.” Anyone who looked at her would have had the same thought the moment they lay a clear eye on her.

Gargoyle

“I must say,” another voice spoke by her side. “This appearance is much for fitting for my herald than the one you wore during the day.” At that another figure took shape by the gargoyles side. It appeared to be a slender woman with long black hair and a one piece green outfit, but there was a raw power hidden behind her expression. “Kudos.”

The gargoyle glared at her ghostly companion. “I have not agreed to anything of the sort Hela.”

Hela tilted her head in feigned confusion. “Have you not? I could have sworn that was part of the pact we made. Or am I mistaken Demona?”

The gargoyle, Demona, simply bared her fangs. “I would never again such a deal with a human!” The final word was spoken as if it was the greatest insult ever vocalized.

And in response to that sheer anger, Hela… laughed. “Human? My we haven’t had much time to talk, have we?” Her smile quickly faded away to reveal a much more serious expression. “My dear, I am farther from those pitiful creatures called humans than even you. I am not simply some monster of the night.”

As she spoke she pulled her hands along her head. Where once her hair was, an elaborate crown of spikes and thorns sprung forth.

“I am the goddess of death! Perhaps you should receive a glimpse of the power I provide.”

Demona’s eyes narrowed, her claws digging further into the branch she clung to. “What are you referring to?”

“Your murderous glares at that modest human abode were not lost on me,” Hela responded. Her spirit shifted itself into a sphere, and then floated towards her shaman. With a flash, the spirit was bonded with the gargoyles clawed hands. “With my power, you should find it simple to grant them a quick, yet surprisingly painful death.”

Large, brutally serrated knives sprung forth in Demona’s hands, seemingly from nowhere. Clutching them she felt as if they could cut through just about anything, and yet she knew it instinctively it was only a fraction of what she was capable of. “What’s the catch?”

The catch? the disembodied voice of Hela questioned bemusedly. The catch Demona, is that you have fun with it.

For the first time in quite a while, Demona’s mouth shifted into a grin. “That can be arranged.”

“You know, after a few years on the team I figured I had seen everything this job could throw at me. But…” The woman glanced over at her new passenger. “An Italian man falling out of the sky right in front of my truck is certainly a new one.”

Luigi didn’t respond to the comment. He was still trying to catch his breath. From landing only to be blinded by a pair of headlights, being deafened by a honking horn and the swerving of tires, and then finally regaining enough of his senses to see a blond woman with long braided hair and a brown park ranger uniform shakily pointing a shotgun at him… it had been a hectic minute.

Luckily she was as hesitant to shoot as she appeared to be, and Luigi’s frightened expression was enough to convince her he wasn’t a threat. And as it turned out her white pickup truck had only grazed a nearby tree, and thus was still fully operational.

Hence the rather awkward riding situation.

“So why are you even looking for the Patch tribe?” the woman, who had introduced herself as Bluebell, questioned.

“I’m not really sure myself,” Luigi answered. “Apparently I’m a shaman, and me and my spirit were invited to a competition. Of course I wasn’t able to understand much before the airplane disappeared.”

“…uh-huh,” Bluebell finally responded. “So you landed in front of my car because you fell out of an airplane?”

“No, that was a week ago,” Luigi answered nonchalantly. “I was just using Accelerator’s power to travel through the forest quicker.” He pointed behind him, at the spirit of the boy who was currently lounging in the backseat of the pickup.

“Honestly…” Accelerator said as he slightly glanced up. “She can’t see me. No one can see me. People are going to think you’re crazy.” Freaking useless shaman he muttered under his breath.

“I’m sorry what was that, I didn’t catch it?” Luigi asked as he turned his head to look in the back seat.

Bluebell watched the man speaking to nothing with a mixture of fear and curiosity. “Right…” she finally managed to get out. “Well, we’ll be at the ranger station soon, so you can explain your story there.”

“Sounds like a plan!” Luigi replied with thumbs up, causing both Bluebell and the invisible Accelerator to roll their eyes.

When neither responded, Luigi’s eyes went back to scanning the interior of the truck (with what little light he could see with). The floor under his seat was strewn with old food wrappers, and he could see a box of shotgun shells resting in the side door. A stack of papers was pushing its way out of the glove compartment. He reached a hand towards it for a closer inspection, and came back with one photograph.

Depicted was Bluebell, maybe a few years younger, smiling while out in the forest. Clutched in her arms was a bear cub, which was glancing up at her as if she was its mother. The cub had light brown fur covering its body, apart from its head where white fur formed the shape of a crescent moon on its face.

“Who’s the bear?” Luigi asked as he held up the photo.

Bluebell glanced over at the photo, and despite herself a small smile escaped her lips. “That’s Apollo. We found him as a cub a few years back and I sort of ended up taking care of him. None of us are sure what species he is, but he’s a total sweetheart. Still occasionally comes to visit, and as long as you don’t startle him he’s just the nicest thing in the -“

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt

The radio attached to Bluebell’s dashboard crackled to life, though merely in bits of static.

“I’m sorry I didn’t catch that, can you repeat?” Bluebell spoke as she grabbed the receiver.

“Bluebell is that you!?” a panicked voice sounded over the other end. “There- there’s some kind of monster! It just attacked the northeast ranger station! I think Jim and Sarah… oh god they’re already dead! Look call for help, it won’t be long before… GYAAAAAH!”

The line suddenly went dead. Luigi and Bluebell gave each other a nervous glance, and even Accelerator seemed to perk up slightly at the sound of death and destruction. Bluebell’s face hardened with steely resolve, and her foot pushed down the accelerator (the instrument) as far as it would go. The truck shot forwards like a bullet across the mountain roads, as Luigi and Accelerator (the spirit) were pushed back into their seats.

“WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA” Luigi cried as the car violently swerved back and forth down the turns of the road. Taking a hard right down a dirt road, the buildings of the ranger station quickly came into view

“This is Bluebell!” the ranger shouted into her radio, ignoring her passengers screams of terror. “Possible attack at the northeast ranger station. We need security their ASAP. I’m going to investigate the- WHOAH”

She suddenly swung the wheel to the side, as an object plunged into the ground just in front of her. The car threatened to roll at the sudden turn, and it was all she could do to maintain her grip. From out of the side window, Luigi could swear the item resembled… a large sword. Whatever it was, a second one suddenly stabbed through back passenger door of the truck. That combined with its present momentum ruined any hope the vehicle had of staying on the ground.

Time seemed to slow down as the truck went spinning into the air. An involuntary scream escaped Bluebell’s lips. Her passenger however was handling the situation surprisingly well. He was still clearly scared beyond his wildest beliefs, but a look of determination had crossed his face. Luigi glanced towards Accelerator, and saw the boy was wearing one of the widest grins he had ever seen.

The plumber quickly gulped. “Here we go,” both said, one far more enthusiastically than the other.

As Accelerator’s spirit flew towards Luigi’s nose, he pressed the button strapped on. The light quickly flipped from green red. His seatbelt suddenly broke away by some unseen force, and he reached his hand out to grasp Bluebell’s arm.

The truck went tumbling end over end down a hill. Hitting the ground caused the sword in its side to be pushed even further in, and in a few rolls the truck had been bifurcated. As the back end rolled out of sight, the front end crashed through the wall of the main office building. It finally rolled to a stop atop a crushed desk and computer.

For a moment the wreck was silent. Then the driver side door was sent flying off its hinges. Bluebell staggered out of the vehicle first, followed by Luigi. “How the hell did we survive that?” she muttered as she looked at the ruins of her once vehicle. “I’m barely hurt.”

Luigi deflected the question. “Perhaps we should try to get out of here.”

For a moment the ranger seemed too dazed to even hear his comment. Reality finally seemed to hit her like a crashing wave, and she rubbed her head. “Uh… right,” she finally answered. Reaching into the remains of the truck, she managed to pry loose her shotgun. “Sorry to get you wrapped into this.”

“Oh it’s not your fault,” Luigi answered as he placed a hand on her arm. I’ve been in similar situations and I managed to get through. Though usually my bro would-”

“Oh you have got to be kidding me!” Accelerator shouted, his voice seemingly coming from Luigi’s right. Luigi turned his head to protest that reaction to his bro. However he quickly realized that his spirit wasn’t paying attention to the conversation in the slightest.

Resting on one of the few tables still standing was a bucket labeled “found in the woods”. The most notable object, resting on top of the bucket, almost resembled a red backpack. However instead of fabric it was crafted out of metal, and a vacuum hose seemed to snake away from the top.

“My Poltergust!” Luigi exclaimed excitedly as he saw the machine.

“Never thought I’d have to deal with that thing again,” Accelerator muttered with a glare, as he flashed back to his rather unpleasant imprisonment.

“No, I caught you in the Poltergust 3000,” Luigi answered nonchalantly as he pulled the machine out of the bucket. “This is the Poltergust 5000.”

“No,” Accelerator said firmly as the man slung the vacuum on his back.

“I wasn’t going to use it on you,” Luigi responded defensively. “But if we encounter any ghosts or angry spirits we could-”

“Would you please stop talking to yourself!?” Bluebell shouted at the top of her lungs. “I don’t know what you think is happening, but there’s some crazy attacker here that could appear at any minute!”

A thud resonated from the roof of the building. All three glanced upwards, only two see three smaller blades stab through to embed in the ground just across from them. Through the newly created hole plunged down… well at first glance they thought it was a woman. But closer inspection revealed that she had pale grey skin and a pair of massive wings reminiscent of a bat.

The woman grinned, revealing a pair of fangs. “Well you’re not wrong,” she said.

The gargoyles eyes scanned the room. Despite holding a shotgun Bluebell was trembling something fierce, and the barrel never seemed to be pointed at the same piece of wall. And while Luigi was assuming what might resemble a fighting stance, he was trembling just as much. However Demona’s vision zeroed in on the band around Luigi’s nose.

“Well look Demona,” another voice spoke up, “Another shaman!” The air beside Demona shimmered, and the image of a woman wearing a green outfit and a headdress of elaborate thorns took shape. “And what a pathetic shaman at that.”

“Well of course he’s pathetic,” Demona chuckled along with her spirit. “He’s merely human.”

“You’re not wrong about that,” Accelerator mused as he appeared just to the side of his shaman.

“And the spirit is merely a young boy,” the woman added in amusement. “Oh this is almost too easy. Before you die humans, you should know who you face. Beyond this creature of the night,” she gestured to Demona, “I am Hela… the goddess of death!”

Luigi staggered back slightly at the statement, but Accelerator had a rather different reaction. His mouth broke into a wide grin, and a high pitched laugh escaped his lips.

Hela’s face fell. “What’s so funny?” At that, Accelerator broke into a roar of laughter. Taken aback, the opposing spirit and shaman shared a glance. “Kill him,” Hela commanded without a hint of hesitation.

“With pleasure,” Demona responded. A knife appeared in her hand, and then went soaring towards Luigi. The plumber trembled as the weapon prepared to stab through his heart…

And in the next second the knife had turned on its metaphorical heals, and plunged itself straight through Demona’s chest.

“What!?” shouted all women present in unison.

Accelerator’s laugh finally died down into a few chuckles. “So you’re some kind of goddess of death?!” he hollered, eyes wild. “Oh that’s a great aesthetic! It’s going to make it all the more satisfying to beat your mangled body into the ground!”

This celebration was short lived however, as Demona grabbed hold of the hilt and quickly pulled the blade back out. The weapon clattered to the ground as the wound quickly pulled itself closed. “It’s going to take more than that to kill me!” Demona gave a venomous glare.

This did little to diminish Accelerator’s enthusiasm, who let out another laugh. “Well that sounds like a challenge!” He turned his head towards his shaman. “Hey Luigi, let’s go.”

The man shuddered slightly at the call of his name. “O-okay, here we go…” He gave a light hop, almost pathetic in its display. However the moment his feet touched the ground an unseen force seemed to possess the remains of Bluebell’s truck. The cabin shot forwards like a wrecking ball, slamming Demona into the opposite wall.

This barely lasted a second before, with what almost resembled a roar, she tore the wreckage to scraps of metal with a pair of blades. “This human is more trouble than he looks,” she muttered.

“Perhaps the more defenseless human will be easier prey,” Hela responded. “But… oh, it seemed she’s run away.” Luigi turned his head to see the empty space where Bluebell had stood a few moments ago. “A smart plan… but ultimately futile.”

Bluebell ran.

She had no plan for what she was doing, no destination in mind.

She just ran.

“What the hell is all this!?” she shouted as a few tears streamed down her face. It had started out as a normal day. But now several of her fellow rangers were dead, and a pair of monsters were duking it out in the ruins of their home. And in the middle of it all, she was just a human with a gun.

So she ran.

But she didn’t run far.

There was a whoosh from behind her head. Despite herself she turned to look. Several blades were flying straight towards her. Before they could hit a thud seemed to echo throughout the forest. As she stumbled back a tree came soaring over the blades, landing just in front of her. The blades stabbed into the trunk, which proceeded topple over to the side. Bluebell jumped as the ground staggered yet again.

From the ranger station she could see Demona barreling towards her, wing spread out. Behind the gargoyle Luigi was chasing. The plumber leaped, much higher than before, and the moment his feet touched the ground several nearby by trees seemed to be yanked up by their roots. They soared through the air in an arc, but a rapid flurry of knives from Demona reduced them to splinters.

With that attack dealt with, Demona turned her attention back to Bluebell. The ranger winced, raised her shotgun and fired. In a split second a summoned blade deflected the buckshot into a nearby tree.

“End of the line,” Demona said triumphantly, as she launched up over Bluebell with a single flap. A knife appeared in her hand, and moments later it was flying through the air towards her head. In the few moments of life she had left she winced.

A roar echoed throughout the forest.

After a second Bluebell was surprised to find that she was still alive. Opening her eyes, her first sight was of brown fur. A large muscular extended out before her face and the blade that had been thrown now lay on the ground, seemingly deflected. The arm was connected to a large bear-like body covered in brown fur, apart from a single circle of yellow across its chest. Also despite resembling a bear, it stood as easily upon its two hind legs as a human.

“Apollo!?” Bluebell shouted in surprise and relief.

Despite himself, Luigi stopped in his tracks. “Wait, that’s Apollo?”

“He… he had a sudden spontaneous growth spurt,” Bluebell stammered as the bear caught another thrown blade from Demona, sending it sliding back a few feet. “I already said none of us knew its species.”

“Well whatever it is, it’s helping a human,” Demona interjected. “That means it’s as good as dead!” At her words a blade nearly her height in length spawned in her hands.

Apollo let out another roar (Bluebell had always had the thought that his roars sounded like a man shouting “ursa” and “ring” in rapid succession). Taking in a deep breath, he then unleashed the last thing any of the people present expected.

A laser.

Or at the very least, a yellow beam of pure energy emanated out of its mouth. The force was enough that he was pushed back by the recoil, but he managed to stand his ground. The beam made contact with the forest floor a few feet away from the charging Demona and Luigi, and where it touched the ground exploded.

A deafening boom knocked Bluebell off her feet. She may have lost consciousness for a second, it was hard to tell, but when she regained her senses she was lying flat on her back. Apollo hung over her with a worried expression on his face.

Picking herself back up, she could immediately notice the large crater where her attacker and protector had been. There was no sign of either of them, which meant they had either been vaporized or sent flying. After taking in a minute to soak in the scene, she hazarded a glance towards Apollo. “I… didn’t know you could do that” she stated in between gasps of breath.

Apollo gave a response that sounded something like ring. Then without another sound he scooped up Bluebell with one of his arms, and then went running through the forest away from the station as fast as his legs could carry him. While most people would be terrified if a bear dragged them off into the forest, it was about the closest she had felt to safe within the last few minutes.

This feeling of safety didn’t last long. With a thunk Apollo suddenly collapsed to the ground, sending Bluebell sprawling. A blade the size of a baseball bat had stabbed clean through his leg. Demona swooped down soon after, landing a few feet away from her prey.

“Enough running girl,” Demona practically spat as another sword appeared in her hand. “Face your death.”

As the blade flew, a blur appeared out of the corner of her eye.

In the next moment the blade had plunged itself straight through Demona’s heart. Standing before her was a creature with pointed ears, yellowish (it was hard to tell in the moonlight) striped fur covering its body, and a bushy tail about the length of its legs.

Bluebell’s first thought upon seeing the creature was “I don’t recognize this species.” Upon the creature turning its head her thoughts quickly shifted to “Holy shit it’s Luigi.”

“I… wha…” Try as she might, Bluebell couldn’t form any words. After all she had dealt with, the Italian man’s costume was the breaking point.

“Don’t worry,” the man spoke in a heavy Italian accent, “I’ll protect you and that bear.”

Before she could comment how completely non-comforting that was, given… all of the factors involved, he swung his newly acquired tail in his direction. Moments later an unbelievably strong gust of wind picked up both her and Apollo, carrying them high over the trees.

A scream sounded across all of Mesa Verde national park as the two went flying over the landscape. Unfortunately she couldn’t appreciate the view as her eyes were pressed firmly shut. She was vaguely aware that she was soaring, then falling, and then there was a splash and suddenly she was underwater.

When she finally opened her eyes again, she was laying on the shore of a lake with Apollo once again looking over her. The sword had been pulled out of his leg, and while bleeding it didn’t appear to be fatal. She struggled to lift her head to get a feel for her location. She could vaguely make out her surroundings… but this was three miles away from the ranger station!

Her head fell back down in defeat.

“Let’s…” she finally managed to get out, “let’s just rest here for a minute.”

A minute or so earlier

After the bear created explosion, Luigi found himself flying through the air. He crashed through a couple branches before landing head first in the dirt. After prying his head free of the newly created hole in the ground, he looked towards his spirit who was floating in the air rather bemusedly.

“You didn’t repel that explosion,” Luigi questioned.

“I wasn’t exactly expecting a bear to shoot a laser beam out of its mouth.”

Luigi tilted his head. “Why not?”

Accelerator opened his mouth, then closed it a second later. “You know what? Fair enough.” After a moment of silence he burst into laughter. “Oh but this is great! We should go find them soon!”

Luigi gave his servant a nervous glance. “Do you mean Bluebell?”

“Not quite who I had in mind!” Accelerator replied with a cackle, “but hey if it gets you motivated I’m all for it!”

After a quick gulp Luigi nodded his head. “You’re right. We need to go and…” he voice trailed off as he noticed something floating on the wind. “That leaf…”

Accelerator’s face fell slightly. “It’s a forest, are you going to get distracted by one damn leaf?”

“No, that leaf!” Luigi pointed towards the object. Even in the dim light it was clearly different then the foliage around it. It was black and brown striped, and one could almost make out a pair of eyes on it. “It’s one of mine!”

Before Accelerator could respond the plumber leaped up and grabbed onto the leaf. His outfit suddenly flashed, and then he was standing there in a full body raccoon suit with only his face visible.

“…the hell?” Accelerator muttered.

“It’s the tanooki suit,” Luigi explained. “When me or my bro use it, it helps us jump and float.”

To demonstrate he leaped several feet into the air. Then, at the top of his arc, he twitched the tail. Despite not providing any clear lift he seemed to float above the ground, at least for a few seconds. Watching it Accelerator was just as confused as before, but slowly a thought dawned on him.

“Okay I have no idea how that works. But if you think that thing will help your mobility…” his face shifted into a wicked grin, “I have an idea.”

With his new power up, Luigi easily managed to catch up to Demona and Bluebell. Then with a tail swipe (and a little help from Accelerator) he managed to send her and the bear to a lake the two had seen when first exploring the park.

“Seems you were just as enthusiastic to kill that woman as we were,” Hela mused as she watched Bluebell go flying over the tree tops.

“Maybe,” Demona answered. “But killers or not, they’re still human.”

The spirit chuckled at that. “Yes, that they are. Well, I suppose it’s about time we dealt with them.”

At that, Accelerator leaped forth from Luigi’s nose to appear just in front of his shaman. “Deal with us?!” he goaded as he flashed a nasty smile. “You haven’t been able to deal a single scratch! That fucking bear did more than you did!” He rested his head in his hands. “Here I thought beating up a goddess of death would be fun, but you’re just a two bit esper.”

Whatever humor was left in Hela vanished. “Demona, I feel it’s about time we show them our true power.”

“I couldn’t agree more,” Demona spoke with absolute venom. The spirit of Hela shrank into a ball, which the gargoyle clutched. But rather than place it in her claws, she instead jammed it into her wings. The goddess spread out her power across the leathery surface, as Luigi readied his stance.

“DIE!” Spirit and shaman shouted at the same time, as Demona flapped her wings straight down. Blades the size of sedans went flying in all directions. In less than a second, every tree in a 20 meter radius had been sliced clean through. She then directed the stream downwards, and the force launched her high into the air. Spreading her wings, the monster floated over the circle of deforestation as well as the mountain of blades created beneath her.

For a moment, they assumed that attacked had been enough. But before celebrations could be had Luigi launched up from the edge of the circle, flipping as he went. He landed with one hand down in between two newly fallen trees.

“I’ll be using your motions, but I won’t be able to reflect anything,” the voice of his spirit spoke in his head. “Keep moving and don’t get hit.”

“Sounds good,” Luigi replied just as silently.

He leaped. Once, twice, and with a third leap he went soaring into the air. In response Demona held aloft her wings, and several blades began to come forth seemingly from nowhere. “The air is the domain of the gargoyle,” she taunted. “By trying to reach it, you make yourself an easy target!”

With a flap the blades went flying. But moments before they could hit, Luigi twitched his tail. The sudden force launched him up over the barrage. Twisting around in midair, his foot found purchase on the flat end of the first projectile. He redistributed his weight and then pushed. Back into the air, he landed up the next blade and pushed off again.

No one watching could believe it. The pathetic, cowardly plumber was jumping across the rain of death as if it was the simplest task in the world. With another twitch of his tail, he launched off to the side away from the hail. Touching down on the ground, he began running. With his tail twitching, the darted forwards. More blades were fired, but they all landed just short of the dashing tanooki plumber. Reaching the edge of the circle, he jumped, pushed off a tree, and then soared.

Barage after barrage Demona fired, but each one was either avoided or treated as a simple set of platforms. Demona’s rage grew harsher and harsher as the field below her was reduced to splinters of wood. And yet still the man kept running and jumping. Was that all he was good for?

“You can’t hit a single human?” Hela screamed at her shaman. “My power is not that complicated, how can you so utterly fail at using it!?”

“You think this is simple?” she spat back. “None of this is my fault, you simply aren’t pulling your weight.”

Hela manifested her image from outside of Demona’s wings. “Oh you have got to be kidding. For once in your life, take some responsibility!”

“ENOUGH!” Demona shouted back. The spirit of Hela was suddenly forced free of its shaman’s body. “I will deal with this human in my own way.”

“NOW!” Accelerator shouted, loud enough to get the attention of the two women. Near the top of his arc, Luigi swung around, then went plummeting towards the ground butt force. And as his ass neared its target, it dawned on the duo just what Luigi’s spirit had been up to during the fight.

One would struggle to count the number of blades thrown during the fight. Hundreds, if not more. And given that they were aimed at a strangely dressed man running and jumping, it would be expected that they would all be stuck into the ground. But, due to either altering their flight path or flipping them when they were on the ground, nearly every blade was pointed up at an angle. And that angle just happened to be pointing directly at where Demona hovered.

As Luigi’s butt hit the ground, a shockwave rippled out across the ground. This wave delivered enough force to each individual blade to launch them airborne at not insignificant velocity. Thus, almost at once every blade within that 20 meter radius circle was sent flying… and all towards the exact same location.

That that location, which happened to be a female gargoyle being impaled by hundreds upon hundreds of swords, was just icing on the cake.

The humanoid pin cushion quickly began to plummet, but that wasn’t the end of it. Luigi leaped again into the air, until he was just above her head. He reached down with his left leg… and then pushed off.

With some manipulation by Accelerator, Demona was sent slamming into the ground with the velocity of a meteorite. The deforested circle was quickly reduced to a deforested crater, as fallen trees and shattered blades were sent flying across the surrounding area.

With a twitch of his tail Luigi floated down to the side of his defeated foe. From what little could be seen of her head, a cracked crown fell loose. As it clattered to the ground, the spirit of Hela spontaneously came forth, seemingly gasping for breath.

“You’ll pay for this!” she shouted at the plumber. “The armies of Asgard will ravage your homeland, killing all you hold dear!”

Despite the loss of her shaman, a few blades managed to come to life. One managed to swing around and slam into Luigi, but rather than cause any sizeable damage it instead simply caused his tanooki suit to vanish in a flash.

As he slid back, he reached to his back and grabbed the hose of the Poltergust 5000. Both spirit and shaman concentrated all of their might, and the power of Accelerator spread forth to occupy the machine as well. With a switch, a vortex of wind rivaling an F5 tornado surged forth.

“No… NOOOOOOOO” Hela screamed as the crown, and even her spirit itself were pulled towards the vacuum. After a moment of struggle, both disappeared down the hose. And then, after so long in the forest, silence fell.

Silence that was soon broken when Accelerator let out a cacophonous laugh. He half expected Luigi to join in, given all the man had just done. However a quick look revealed that to be unlikely, as he watched Luigi’s eyes roll back into their sockets. The plumber fell to the ground and began moaning in terror, as everything that had happened came crashing down on him like a wave.

“…heh,” Accelerator let a slight smirk escape his lips.

The man was still a complete coward, and he kind of doubted his shaman would be up for the challenges ahead. They still needed to find Bluebell and figure out where the hell the Patch Tribe even was.

But for now, it didn’t do any harm to let his shaman rest.

Team Eclipse

Kenan Kong, The Super-Man of China

At one point, Kenan Kong was nothing more than a bully, an average young citizen of China with an inflated ego. However, following a run in with a supervillain, he was selected by Dr. Omen to join the Ministry of Self-Reliance. His role? To become the Super-Man of China, and establish a new version of The Justice League. Empowered by the Qi of the genuine Superman, Kenan was imbued with all the strength and powers of the original, with a twist. Rather than a solar charge, Kenan's powers are granted and maintained through control of his emotions and of his Qi. With the power of Earth's Greatest Hero, Kenan would become a celebrated protector of China, as well as learn what it means to be a Hero.

Ganondorf, The King of Darkness

In all it's incarnations and timelines, the history of Hyrule has always been tied to the legendary triforce. Three parts of one whole. The Triforce of Courage, to be granted to a reincarnated hero of legend. The Triforce of Wisdom, to be granted to the descendants of Hylia. And the Triforce of Power, to be granted to he who opposes them. This is the wielder of that Triforce of Power. Known across the lands as the King of Darkness, he is great and mighty villain, an evil unstoppable to all but those who wield power drawn from the same source. He is strength, he is might, he is cunning, he is overwhelming. He is Ganondorf.

And now they kick ass together

And their opponents

Team Zap

Dalek Sec, Leader of the Cult of Skaro

The Cult of Skaro, an elite Dalek task force was particularly interested in unorthodox extermination methods. Their leader, Dalek Sec found that humans had a unique world view and admired them, even attempting to become one by hybridizing himself with a human body. But this Sec is before that. When he is a tiny mutant completely encased in a metalert shell which protects him from laser blasts, gun fire, and just about anything short of a fall from orbit. Like most Daleks, he views violence as a necessary means to eradicate any opposition. Unlike most Daleks, he sees the possibility that there may be some merit to life forms other than Daleks.

Mikoto Misaka, The Railgun

The Ace of Tokiwadai Middle School, Mikoto Misaka is the 3rd-ranked esper in Academy City where, like, almost everyone has super powers of some sort. Her specialty is in electrokinesis, allowing her to fire bolts of lightning from her body, manipulate magnetically charged "iron sand" particulate, and fire metals in the form of a "railgun" at speeds fast enough to burn up in the air. She takes being highly ranked seriously, and has become somewhat of a goddess among her peers. She was the original mold for a cloning project in which thousands of her "sisters" were creatively slaughtered to train a more powerful esper. She is viciously devoted to making sure that none of them are ever killed again.

Part 1: Stygian Star

Kenan ran his hand through his hair. "So, what's your name?"

"Bluebell." The driver of the truck didn't pay Kenan any mind as she kept her eyes set on the road.

As American a name as one could have. Not that Kenan minded much at all. Why should it matter? If she was cute, she was cute. And she was cute. "I'm Kenan. Kenan Kong. Super-Man of China. You probably heard of me."

"No, never."

Kenan was kind of getting tired of that response. At the very least it meant they didn't know about any of the times he'd messed up. A fresh start.

"Well, y'know, even if you haven't heard of me, like, personally, I'm sure you've heard of the Shamans, right? Shaman fight, Patch Tribe, high danger, exciting world spanning competition. Yeah, I'm gonna win it."

Kenan felt a cold glare boring into his skull. Ganondorf might not have been... anywhere, but that doesn't mean he could make his presence felt in other, more annoying ways. A real third wheel, that guy.

"I-I mean we are gonna win it. Me and my spirit."

Bluebell spared Kenan a glance. "You're a Shaman?"

"Pretty cool, right?" Kenan smirked. Now he had her attention. It was just that easy for him.

Bluebell started to talk about... something. A bear maybe? Kenan was having a hard time concentrating. Darkness crept out of the corners of his eyes. An all too familiar sensation by now. It would seem his 'Spirit' wanted to talk.

Kenan let out a deep breath. It was just like any other Qi. Focus... breathe... stay calm. Focus on his Heart, where his Spirit lie. When next he opened his eyes, he was aware of how Ganondorf made his presence known. Stood in the bed of the lorry, arms crossed, staring off across the snowy forests.

"You are wasting our time, Kenan Kong."

"It's not a waste of time. I mean, we're in a car ride with a cute girl, what part of that sounds like a waste to you?"

Ganondorf sat and exhaled a long, frustrated breath. "We seek the land of Mesa Verde. Yet you would have us sit and stew and toil for those beneath us. That is the time we waste."

"Oh yeah? And you know where Mesa Verde is?" Kenan huffed.

"I do, actually," Bluebell replied with a furrowed brow.

Kenan shook his head. "Not you. I'm talking to him." Kenan jerked his thumb towards the truck bed.

Bluebell took a quick peek over her shoulder. The flat of her truck was empty, sans the snow slowly filling it. She gave Kenan a quizzical look.

"... Oh yeah, no wait." Kenan exhaled a long, slow breath. The darkness at the edges of his vision faded, if only slightly.

Kenan and Ganondorf had been 'partners' for about three days now. Whether it was good luck, bad luck, or the first impression they'd made back on the plane. they hadn't seen hide nor head of any of their competition in that time. Which was, on the surface, pretty great. A chance to breathe, take in the sights, like a vacation.

On the flip side, it meant that neither Kenan nor Ganondorf had any idea of where they were going.

So they just kinda... wandered. And while they wandered, they experimented and learned more about how being Shaman and Spirit worked. On the surface, it was simple enough. The Golden Treasure, the Triforce, bound them together. Ganondorf claimed it to be the greatest treasure. So long as Kenan carried it, Ganondorf would not be far behind.

And that checked out, lined up with what Kenan knew. And as long as Ganondorf was his spirit, Kenan had all his power to himself. And it was a lot of power. Going from Kenan to Kenandorf (A name Kenan had came up with for himself) was not too different a leap as that from Kenan to Super-Man. It was almost overwhelming, allowing Ganondorf that kind of presence in his body. But it meant his strength, his magic, all of his abilities were delivered right to him, locked away in his soul.

But it took a great toll on his mind to have Ganondorf sharing his headspace. Giving Ganondorf a fraction of his might at a time eased that burden, but it gave him more freedom to act on an outside world. But, Kenan reasoned, as long as he kept the lion's share, and remembered the triforce that now marked him, they could maintain their uneasy alliance without issue. Probably.

Hopefully.

So far so good, is what it came down to.

And with that knowledge, the two of them had gone hunting for directions. For something. Eventually they'd wandered into a little podunk town in Utah. Barged on into the Saloon and asked the oldest, wisest geezer in the town where the Patch Tribe was. He didn't know. So Kenan rolled around town and tried to get any kind of idea of where or what the Patch Tribe was. And eventually, eventually, eventually he found something. A guide.

And by a guide, he meant a handful of directions to Mesa Verde national park. And so here he was, in the park. In the car. With the girl. Giving Ganondorf enough power to actually, like, exist.

And so here we were.

u/7thSonOfSons Mar 17 '19 edited Mar 18 '19

Ganondorf took in a deep breath. Whatever foul contract had tethered his essence to Kenan's, he was well and truly done with it. He and the boy were linked by the Triforce that had somehow, in some way, found its way to Kenan Kong. That had chosen Kenan Kong. And now he sat in this machine.

He was a mere shadow of his true glory. Of his strength. He had been permitted by Kenan to draw breath. To feel the chill of this new kingdom. To be given a body once more. Even in this state, a fraction of a fraction of his peak, it would suffice for now.

The woman in command of this machine was looking through the glass at Ganondorf. She immediately turned back to watching forward. A reaction Ganondorf was no stranger to.

"So, that's the spirit, huh?" She asked to Kenan.

Ganondorf smirked. At least the people of this land had some respect for who he was. "Unfortunate that it would be, I am in fact the spirit."

Kenan nodded and flicked his head in his direction. "Yeah, we're kind of a team now."

"We are not a team."

"That's why I said kind of. He's Ganondorf, King of Darkness. He listens to me. Pretty cool, right?"

"I do not listen to you, Kenan Kong." Ganondorf sneered. "I exist as a part of you. A part of your soul, you remember? Being forced together in such a way does not make us equal, or partners. I listen to you no more than the wind and trees."

Kenan had promptly ignored Ganondorf, instead giving his attention to Bluebelle. "So, what were you saying before? Something about... something?"

"Mesa Verde," said Ganondorf. "She is taking us where we have been directed. To the Cliff Palace."

Bluebelle nodded. "Sure as. This place is a might sight harder to get around in the snow. You fellas woulda been all sorts of loss tryna walk there."

"Yeah, crazy. Walking."

Kenan hadn't wanted to walk, really. He could have flown. Even if he didn't, he could have flown. How hard could it be to find a Palace in America? Heck, how hard could it be to find an entire tribe of people like Goldiva? They didn't exactly blend in.

But he opted to stay on the ground.

To pretend to look lost.

And to ask for help.

From a cute girl.

And now here he was, riding in her truck, all alone. With a two meter tall king of evil. This was what Romance was about.

Kenan spared a glance out the window. "Sure is a lot of park, ya know? Thought America was a lot more... modern that this."

"It is not as though we passed only trees and wind to get here, Kenan Kong." Ganondorf reminded him. "The Mesa Kingdom clearly values their lands more highly than the King of Colorado."

Bluebell nodded. "You got that right pardner."

Ganondorf gazed out at the land as they passed. Trees, snow, rivers, animals, this place was teeming with life and livelihood. It was uneasing how calm it all was. As though it wished to be subjagted. Were he able, this land would become his own. A thought for another time. For this moment, they rode towards a palace. Something the King of Darkness would be more familiar with.

"So, what do you know about the Patch Tribe?" Kenan asked. "Are they, like, good guys?"

Bluebell shrugged. "Never met one of 'em m'self. My pa prolly had a run in with some of 'em. Heck, he prolly had a run in with everything that lives in this place."

"Your father tends to these lands?" Ganondorf asked.

"Yessir," she said with a nod. "Daddy's been round these parts longer 'n' some of the trees, I reckon. He's an honest man, does honest work. I been tryna follow in his footsteps, workin' as a ranger, but I ain't nearly up to snuff on how he runs this place. Ma always said I was his spittin' image, but I can't even get Apollo to listen ta me sometimes!"

Kenan recognized most of those words. Sort of. Context clues helped him put it all together.

Ganondorf nodded. "Your decision to seek aid from this girl was not so foolish as it seemed, Kenan Kong."

"Yeah, like everything I do, nailed it." Kenan smirked proudly. "So, Bluebelle, how far out from the palace thing are we?"

Bluebelle peered out the window and up at the sun. "Should be able to get there in a coupla hours. Two or three even, s'long as we don't run into no trouble."

But as it came to past, they didn't need to go looking for trouble. Trouble found them. Kenan almost groaned as the HAM Radio crackled to life. This was how it always went, wasn't it? As soon as someone says everything's all good, it's not all good. It would become all bad.

“Bluebell, come in,” a voice rattled out. “Apollo is attacking a hunter just north of your current location. If you’re going to stop him, you need to get there fast.”

Ganondorf took a deep breath, and let out a slow exhale. So, this was what they were up to today. At least it would be a chance to vent some frustration. He held fast as the truck whipped around in a new direction, speeding off through some undergrowth.

"Apollo?" Kenan asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Yeah, Apollo. S'my friend. A good ol' bear that’s been roamin' the area for a dogs age. Me an' pa raised 'im. Hell, protectin' 'im is why I became a park ranger 'n the first place. If y'all can help me keep him safe and I’ll take you all the way to the Mesa!”

"Were you not already?" Ganondorf asked.

But Bluebelle couldn't hear over the sound of the whipping winds and the bumpy road.

1

u/7thSonOfSons Mar 20 '19

Kenan and Ganondorf could only sit and wait as Bluebelle whipped the car through backwoods and gravel roads. Her eyes were going wild, darting back and forth, looking for that bear. "Come on, lil buddy, where ya hidin' at?"

And then Kenan remembered something. Duh, he had super powers. He focused his Qi, sharpening and condensing his sense of hearing. The low buzz of an entire province worth of noise was suddenly front and center in Kenan's mind. Bad idea, bad idea. He put a hand on his temple, already feeling a headache come on.

'Focus,' he thought to himself. Listen only for bear sounds. A little tricky, he wasn't 100% sure what a real bear sounded like, but he did catch the sounds of something big and hairy and not too far. And surrounding sounds were...

Kenan pointed out to the north-west. "There, he's by some running water!"

"The river!" Bluebelle's face lit up as she pressed the pedal to the metal and booked it across the park. "Thanks pardner. But how'd ya figure?"

"What's a Super-Man without Super Hearing?" Kenan shook off said super hearing, put in the back of his mind. It was always so tiring having to listen to everything at once.

They ramped up and over a particularly snow crested hill, and Bluebelle slammed on the breaks. "Thar he is!"

She pointed down hill, and both Kenan and Ganondorf peered through the snowfall to the helpless bear.

Well, presumably helpless. Allegedly helpless. The thing was over three meters tall and just as wide. Stomping around the river bed like it owned the place. Which, really, it probably did. It was also growling and grumbling at... a trash can.

"REPEATING FINAL WARNING," the trash can yelled in its synthetic voice. "DIRECT US TO THE CLIFF PALACE OR BE EXTERMINATED!"

The bear roared in response. A small girl in a school uniform tugged at the trashcan, pulling it away from Apollo.

"I don't think he knows where we're going," she warned. "C'mon, Sec, let's try someone else."

"THIS UNIT PLANS TO MAKE WELL ON ITS' ULTIMATUM!" From out of one of it's silly 'arms', a pure white laser beam streaked through the air, singing the hair on Apollo's shoulder.

Bluebelle's eyes were as wide as dinner plates. She shook Kenan's arm. "Hey, hey, you gotta get down there an' protect my buddy. Aint that what you super heroes do?"

Kenan, who had mostly been waiting to see the little robot get its' but kicked, shook himself out of it. "Oh, yeah, right!" He threw open the door and sprinted down the hill. "C'mon, Ganondorf, let's go save the bear!"

Ganondorf made no move to do any such thing. This was his opportunity to see Kenan, the Super-Man, in action. A chance to impress him.

It was only a few steps into his sprint down hill and Kenan began to fly. He soared forward, putting himself between the bear and the two stranger. The next laser beam to fire out of the little robot was caught in his hand well before it could touch Apollo. It stung like a bitch, but on the surface, Kenan looked calm and ready.

He cleared his throat and crossed his arms, glaring down at the pair. "What's going on here?" Man, he hoped Bluebelle could hear him.

"We're just trying to get directions," the young girl explained frantically. "Sec and I are trying to get t-"

"OUR BUSINESS IS OUR OWN!" Sec shouted. "IDENTIFY YOURSELF!"

Oh, finally, someone to impress. Kenan puffed out his chest and rapped his fingers against the symbol on his suit. "The name's Kenan Kong, but you can call me Super-Man."

"SPECIES IDENTIFIED: SUPER MAN. COMPATABILITY TO DAAAAAALEK RACE: UNDEFINED."

Apollo began to roar behind Kenan, but when the young girl in the school uniform stepped towards him, he stepped away. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. Tiny sparks of electricity zipped through the air away from her. "Figures. Even a big guy like this doesn't want to mess with my EM field."

Kenan watched Apollo back down from the tiny girl with evident amusement. "Nice trick. So, you and the robot are... friends?"

"No, that's not... we're not really friends," she half-explained with a nervous laugh. "My name's Mikoto, and this is Sec. We're just stuck together for right now."

"DAAALEK'S HAVE NO CONCEPT OF FRIENDSHIP!" The Dalek turned its full attention from the bear to Kenan. "KENAN KONG OF THE SUPER-MEN, DIRECT US TO THE CLIFF PALACE OR FACE EXTERMINATION."

"Just tell him what he wants," Mikoto huffed. "It's not like he could tell if you were lying."

Kenan blinked. "Well, actually we're on our way to the cliff palace right now. If you wanna catch-a-ride, we can load up this little guy in the truck and we can all get a move on."

"YOU WOULD PROPOSE AN ALLIANCE?"

"... Yeah, I guess so?" Kenan shrugged.

"REQUEST DENIED." Sec fired another laser. This one Kenan figured enough to avoid.

Mikoto whipped around and kicked the Dalek in the side. "What are you doing!?"

"EXTERMINATING." Well, he didn't sound any worse for wear after Mikoto's attack. "THE SUPER-MAN WEARS HIS CALLING BELL. HE IS OUR ENEMY!"

Kenan raised his arm, pointing to the small device on his wrist. "You mean this thing?"

Mikoto sighed. "So that's why you're going to the cliff palace, huh? I guess that checks out. But that doesn't mean we need to fight him. We can still work so-"

Mikoto's words were drowned out by the sudden sound of a tree being uprooted and launched like a javelin at Dalek Sec. Mikoto's eyes widened, and she stepped between the improvised weapon and Sec. A thin stream of iron sand rose from the dirt, slicing cleanly through the tree like a chainsaw, both halves crashing off into the distance. She grit her teeth and stared up to the top of the hill, where Ganondorf stood.

Kenan rubbed his forehead and looked over his shoulder at Apollo. "Mind lending a paw?"

Apollo roared defiantly and swung at Kenan.

"Yeah, that's what I figured."

u/7thSonOfSons Mar 21 '19

Kenan was smarter than he looked. As he caught the bears swipe, he thought for a moment about throwing the stupid thing into the atmosphere. But, no, that was a stupid idea. The bear was Bluebelle's friend. If he wanted to get to Cliff Palace, he should probably avoid letting Apollo get blasted. By himself or anyone else.

"Bluebelle!" He yelled. "Come get your friend!"

"Aw, he jus' playin' with ya," Bluebelle yelled back. "Jus' get that lil girl 'n' her pet robot outta here an' it'll be all good."

Great, so no help on that end. Kenan gave Apollo a friendly shove, pushing him back through the bushes and into the running river. With Apollo splashing in the water, Kenan had some time to chat with the other shaman.

"Look, little idiot robot." Kenan ducked out of the way of another laser. "We don't need to fight. Just leave the bear alone and we can settle this somewhere else."

"NEGATIVE." Pew, another laser for Kenan to avoid. "YOUR COMMANDS TO YOUR SPIRIT HAVE ALREADY PROVEN NEGOTIATIONS TO BE IMPOSSIBLE."

Thanks, Ganondorf.

"No, see, you got it all wrong." Kenan ducked out of the way of a swipe from Apollo. "See, I can't control Ganondorf. He just does whatever."

Electricity was surging and flying out from Mikoto as she gave Kenan an incredulous look. "What do you mean you can't control him? He's your spirit!"

Kenan just shrugged before flying up, up, and up, well out of Apollo's impressive reach. "He's just a spirit, like a ghost, right? He does what he wants, I just let him go."

Mikoto let out a frustrated yell. A bolt of electricity was plucked straight out of the sky, crashing down where Kenan had been only a second ago. "What do you mean you can't control him!? He's your spirit, isn't he?"

As if in response, Ganondorf floated down from his perch, putting himself between The Dalek, Mikoto, and Apollo. Sec, as was his wont when confronted with meeting new faces, fired a laser at Ganondorf. The attack was swatted aside with little effort, shooting off into space.

"I may be a spirit, but I bow to no one. My will is my own. Only my strength is borrowed to Kenan Kong."

Apollo roared out at Ganondorf. He turned over his shoulder to face the beast. Apollo went in to take a bite out of him, and Ganondorf held it's jaws open. He glared at the creature. A dark, swirling ring of energy formed beneath its paws.

"Be banished!" Ganondorf decreed. And so it came to pass. Apollo seemingly vanished into thin air.

Mikoto took a step backwards. "Aw crap, this guys some kind of teleporter too?"

"SPIRIT, IDENTIFY YOURSELF!" Electricity began to crack and crackle from Sec's laser arm. It turned towards Bluebelle's truck sat atop the hill.

Darkness pooled together, forming a broadsword in Ganondorf's hand. "Ganondorf, King of the Gerudo."

"What's a Gerudo?" Kenan and Mikoto asked in tandem.

"WE HAVE NO RECORDS OF SPECIES: GERUDO."

The corner of Ganondorf's mouth upturned into a smirk. "Then it is time I educate you."

Kenan looked around, and listened around. No sign of Apollo. "Hey, what happened to the bear?"

"Do not concern yourself with a mere beast." Ganondorf smirk and pointed his blade at Sec and Mikoto. "A problem must be pulled up from its' roots."

"You cannot be serious!" Mikoto stomped her foot, shooting further electricity into the sky.

"We're not picking a fight with a garbage can and a middle schooler."

"CORRECT. THIS IS NOT A FIGHT. IT IS AN EXTERMINATION." There was a dull glow surrounding Sec, iron sand circling around him like a shark. "FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE INTO THE FOLLOWING FACET'S OF GERUDO: PROPENSITY FOR DEATH."

Mikoto brushed a hair out of her face and stepped closer to Sec. "You better know what you're doing..."

"You're kidding, right? What happened to not picking fights?"

"He's the shaman, what else can I do?" Mikoto sounded at least somewhat apologetic as she took aim at Kenan with two fingers. "A spirit is beholden to the will of the shaman, whether they like it or not. That's my role in all of this."

Before Kenan could argue, that same iron sand that now circled both Sec and Mikoto rose up like a great metal beast. It lashed forward towards Kenan. Kenan threw a punch at the attacking tendrils, but all it could do was blow the sand into the wind and leave his arm open to being slashed at. He recoiled away from the behemoth of sand.

Well, he couldn't block this stuff, so he'd need to evade. The next one that came to him, he zipped out of the way and higher into the air. And then came another. And one after that. And the one after that. How was this even happening?

Back on the ground, Ganondorf chuckled as he slashed away at each oncoming attack. Unlike Kenan's flesh, Ganondorf had faith in Gerudo steel. It was all too easy to hack away at the trivial blows of a trivial enemy.

"Tell me, Kenan Kong, how is you struggle with this?" Ganondorf called out between a lazy series of defenses. "My strength is your own, isn't it? Then why don't you use it!"

"Get off my back!" Kenan tried to fry one of the attacking sand tentacles with his heat vision. The sand glowed red hot for a moment before the whole affected area popped. Streaks of burning sand flew everywhere, at Kenan especially. Another bad idea. "Big evil King of Darkness is still out here getting his butt kicked by a little girl and an angry roomba!"

Ganondorf's eyes narrowed. He held an empty hand towards the swirling tornado of iron sand. With a smirk, and a snap of his fingers, a pale red mass streaked through the air into sand. Just as suddenly, the tendrils lashing out towards Ganondorf ceased. He waved his hand in Kenan's direction, and another streak of lightning came crashing down from the sky towards him.

"Do not mistake me for someone at your level, Kenan Kong," he said as Kenan swooped up and around to avoid the electricity and further whippings of the iron sand. "This battle only continues because I will it. If you mean to prove something to me, than prove it. Or fall to the ground like the worm you are and die!"

Kenan watched as the iron sand that had previously been attacking he and his spirit equally swept right past Ganondorf to attack himself more aggressively. Ganondorf swung his sword overhead and buried the tip in the snow. The iron sand came at Kenan anew, from more angles, constantly demanding his attention. He zipped up and down, out and in, what else could he do? Every time he got close to the writhing mass of iron sand, the buzzing of so many grains of vibrating metal reminded him what would happen if he dove straight in.

Ganondorf, meanwhile, only watched and observed. This 'Dalek' was not so far advanced from the Sheikah that he could not command it as well. And so long as it was in control of the girl, he was without danger. Almost frustrating in its simplicity.

Kenan was frustrated in an entirely different sense. What was he supposed to do about this? As easy as it would be to crack open Dalek Sec like a tin can, there was a lake's worth of iron sand between them. With a deep breath, he refocused, calmed himself, and came to a plan. While he zigged and zagged between lashing iron sand, his eyes focused in. Super vision.

And at a second glance, it became clear. Mikoto and Sec were both controlling the sand. Both of them were emitting high voltage electricity out of their bodies, magnetically manipulating the sand as they wished. But... no, they weren't. Electricity was Mikoto's thing, so this was... Sec was using her power! And Ganondorf was controlling Sec!

So that's what that magic move was. Some kind of brainwashing! Putting it all together, Kenan realized something. If Sec could use Mikoto's electricity. And Ganondorf could control Sec with his power...

Kenan flew back towards the sun, closed his eyes, and helds his hands close together. Going into the darkness again. Connecting to Ganondorf, his Qi to Ganondorf's. Delving into the spirit that resides beside his spirit. He didn't know what all Ganondorf was, or could do, but he didn't need to dig too deep. He let himself feel surrounded by that darkness once more. Like the first time he'd bonded to his spirit.

His body moved on its own. That same purple and red energy coursed down Kenan's arm, before pulsing out through the sand. Kenan could feel it, the power. It was like he held a hurricane, or an earthquake. It was the power of a great Calamity. And it gripped Dalek's body, it bent to Kenan's will.

"Stop"

And it stopped. The sand stood still, and fell to the ground.

Ganondorf crossed his arms and chuckled. "Now you understand, don't you? The difference between a spirit like that girl, and one like me."

That was when an Iron Sand spike shot through Ganondorf's chest.

RGanondorf collapsed to his knees, clutching at the gaping wound in his chest. He dug his sword into the snow and forced himself back to his feet.

"GERUDO WEAKNESSES IDENTIFIED. GULLIBILITY AT THE HIGHEST PERCENTILE. INFORMATION OF 'KING OF DARKNESS' AS A THREAT WERE GROSSLY OVERSTATED."

Mikoto had her hand on the top of Sec's dome, audible levels of electricity coursing from her into him. That red and purple aura Kenan had come to associate with Ganondorf faded away. Kenan watched with his super vision, looking inside the enemy shaman, and finally put the pieces together.

Dalek Sec wasn't the robot commanding Mikoto. He was the pilot controlling the robot. Taking control of the Dalek, it was all a trick!

"You met these guys before," Kenan shouted down to his spirit.

Ganondorf snarled and pointed the tip of his blade towards Dalek Sec. "I have not seen these miserable creatures in all my days. And after this meeting, they will not see anything again!"

"Chill out for a minute and think!" Kenan shouted. "How did they know about your magic?"

"THOSE DETAILS, LIKE YOURSELVES, ARE IRRELEVANT."

Somehow, someway, this fight got even stranger. Dalek Sec began to fly.

"SPIRIT, I REQUIRE YOUR AID. TOGETHER WE WILL BANISH THE KING OF DARKNESS."

Mikoto reached into the pocket of her shorts, and pulled out a small coin. "I guess I don't need to hold back."

"Hey, Ganondork." Kenan moved down besides his spirit. "You know I hate you, right?"

"My contempt for you is as bottomless as the ocean, Kenan Kong."

"Glad we understand each other. But," he grinned wide, "right now I hate these guys a lot more."

Ganondorf smirked. "Again we reach an agreement. A ceasefire then."

"At least until we kick the crap out of these two."

And with that agreement, they both nodded to one another. Both Kenan and Ganondorf crossed their arms. Both floated a few inches off the ground. And both directed their gaze at Dalek Sec.

Ganondorf raised his sword and leveled it at Mikoto once more. "I've seen your tricks, little witch. This is the end for you."

"It only takes one shot." Mikoto's eyes glanced to the hole in Ganondorf's chest.

Ganondorf chuckled. "Then take your shot, usurper. See how well you last without your tricks and shields."

There was a notable pressure in the air. A low hum, occasionally broken up by the crackles of electricity running through Mikoto. Bolts of lighting jumped from her outstretched hand to the ground beneath her.

"SHOW NO MERCY, SPIRIT. DESTROY OUR ENEMY!"

And with a sonic boom, Mikoto fired the coin. All the snow around her, and along the path of her shot, melted away in the blink of an eye. A railgun, fired at three times the speed of sound, hurtling right towards Ganondorf.

He smirked. With a paltry wave of his hand, he backhanded the shot away and up into the air. Right towards his Shaman. Kenan got the idea. If he could use Ganondorf's Calamity thing, he could borrow the rest of his Spirit's skills too. And it just felt so cool to backhand the shot a second time, like a game of tennis. But this time it wasn't to Ganondorf.

It was to the Dalek Sec.

Even realizing what was going on, Mikoto's iron sand couldn't shield her shaman in time. The coin ripped through the center of his metal body like tissue paper. It made an inhuman, robotic screeching noise as sparks and wires hung down from tear in it's body. That didn't make them even close to even, at least not in Ganondorf's eyes, but it was a start.

That familiar twisting shield of Iron Sand surrounded them as Dalek Sec floated down to Misaka's side. Before the first attack could follow, Ganondorf raised a hand. "Allow me."

His body flickered, and then was gone. A spike of iron sand shot towards Kenan, but before it could land, Dalek Sec was forcibly ejected from the barrier and right into Kenan's hands. Not that Kenan caught the little robot. He spiked it into the ground like a volleyball.

"So it's not just bears you teleport?" Kenan shouted.

The iron sand returned in a heap to the ground. Ganondorf stood, holding Mikoto Misaka by her throat. "My sorcery is boundless." Ganondorf glance from Kenan to Mikoto. "Now, this information, tell me where it comes from."

Mikoto grabbed at Ganondorf's wrist, kicking and struggling to free herself. "Let... Go...!"

Her whole body was sparking and crackling with electricity, but Ganondorf either didn't notice or didn't care. A dark circle opened up beneath Mikoto's feet. "Spirit or otherwise, the darkness between realms will not be kind to you."

Dalek Sec was currently pinned to the dirt under Kenan's foot. But that didn't mean he was incapable of acting. "GERUDO, RELEASE MY SPIRIT OR BE DESTROYED."

Kenan chuckled. "Are you serious, little guy? We already beat you. The strongest shaman and the strongest spirit. There's nothing more to it then-"

Sec fired his laser at Ganondorf. Again, he slapped the beam aside, this time right back to sender. The laser pierced Dalek's robot body, causing the whole thing to burst and explode. Kenan shielded his face with his arms as bits of scrap fired off every which way.

Mikoto's eyes went wide. "Y-You.... You-!"

"Watch out!" Kenan yelled. He flew as quickly as he could, shoulder checking Ganondorf aside and holding Mikoto in place by her shoulders. A streak of lightning arced from the sky right into her body, and then again and again and again out of it. Like a dynamo, static electricity roared out of her, all directly into Kenan's body.

Kenan absorbed all of it. He kept his eyes shut, his breathing calm, let the static course through him like water through a river. Breathe in. Breathe out. Ignore the noise, electricity is only light. Take it in, make it a part of you. Like Ganondorf's darkness. Like everything else in the world.

His costume brightened. From red to white, as more and more of Mikoto's electricity coursed through him, and he infused his Qi with that energy. With that light. He opened his eyes. Like his outfit, pure white.

After how many minutes, the sparking died down. Mikoto looked exhausted, and Kenan released her. She stood on shaky legs. She could barely produce a spark. Kenan held out one finger, and let a jolt of electricity fire off into Mikoto's forehead. She was down.

Ganondorf chuckled and clapped slowly. "So this is the true form of the Super-Man?"

"No, this is an imbalanced Super-Man." Kenan let out a long exhale. He rebalanced his Qi, letting himself become at one with himself alone. "In all things, there is a balance, light and darkness. If that Balance is skewed, well... you saw what can happen."

"Balance in all things..." Ganondorf shook his head. "The foolish words of a foolish hero."

"A foolish heroes still a hero," Kenan replied with a grin.

Mikoto's body faded away against the snow. Ganondorf raised an eyebrow. "So, without the shaman, the spirit can not linger."

"That's what I told you at the start, idiot." Kenan yawned and scratched at his stomach. "Y'know, we make a pretty good team."

"You mean to say you do well at stealing my abilities."

"Well, I did save your life, like, at least twice back there. So I figure you still owe me." Kenan motioned towards the hole in Ganondorf's chest. "That gonna be okay?"

"It would not be the first time, nor is it even the worst. It will be fine."

"Sweet. And the bear?"

"I had considered keeping it as part of my army."

Kenan chuckled. "As cool as that would be, I think Bluebelle's gonna want that thing back." He knelt down besides the black portal Ganondorf had opened not too long and whistled. "Hey, Apollo! Get out here!"

The bear roared in response. Ganondorf shoved his arm into the darkness, and when it came back, he had Apollo by the name of his neck. He roared again and Ganondorf, but this time Ganondorf roared back. That seemed to be enough to get him to cool his jets. The portal sealed itself again, and Ganondorf tossed the bear onto its paws.

"Disgusting creature," he scoffeed before turning back to walk to the truck."All that for a mere pet."

Kenan flew besides him. "Yeah, well, that's what being a heroes about. Small good, big good, as long as we're doing good."

Bluebella looked incredibly pleased as Kenan and Ganondorf both loaded up onto the truck. "Why, in all my days I ain't never seen nothin' like that. You boys really know how ta put on a show!"

"It was nothing," Kenan waved his hand dismissively. "We went easy on 'em." He shut his eyes and tucked his head forward. "Just wake me up when we get there..."

"There is still an issue to discuss, Kenan Kong." Ganondorf sat and thought as the truck whirred to life and started down the road. "Someone is spreading information on us."

Kenan yawned. "Nah, they don't know 'us'. They know you, Mr. King of Darkness. They know your title, so we'll just call you something else."

"I am known by more than enough names and titles."

Kenan shook his head. "Nah, nah, any of that stuff, they probably already got it somewhere. Armstrong knew enough about you, whoever's out here dishing dirt does too. You need something new. Something... snappy."

Ganondorf crossed his arms. "And what would you have that be?"

Kenan thought for a moment. It was hard to keep himself awake, but he did have an idea. "What about... Hero of Calamity?"

There was silence. And then Ganondorf laughed a cold, throaty cackle. "Hero of Calamity! Yes, Kenan Kong, that will suffice." Ganondorf's body began to flicker and fade.

Kenan was asleep, he could not be supplied with the force to coexist in this world. For a moment, he considered taking over for Kenan. Forcing himself into his headspace once more. But...

He deserved to rest. An insubordinate underling though he may be, he was an underling all the same. And he had, at some level, helped Ganondorf earlier. For tonight, he would leave his dreams untainted, as they roamed the country roads, and delved deeper down the path...

To become the Shaman King.

Team The Friends we made Along the Way*

  • Tsuna

    • One of those anime protaganist that get dragged in some retarded over the top plot and he kinda wants to.puss out of it. However eventually he becomes not a puss and kinda cool. Manga is pretty swell
  • Yu

    • Someone from Persona who has the personality of a wet blanket, but is somehow still relatively funny. Probably because everyone around him are crazy, and the dichotomy is hilarious. The anime is alright I guess, kinda have been putting it off for a while.

Totes Legit Write-up

Yu stood above a sitting hunched over Tsuna.

"We should continue going through this competition, Tsuna."

Tsuna's eyes were glued to the Television playing his Xbox One X on a 65" 4k Television.

He was too lost in the brand.new game that recently came out. Devil May Cry 5.

"Tsuna, didnt you pass this game already. Like, twice?"

Tsuna finally looked at Yu.

"Yes, but this is Dante Must Die Mode, i have to unlock the super costumes. Bloody Palace comes out in like a week, I gotta be prepared."

"Why don't you buy it, the DLC came out so you can get it for $"

"And what? Be a loser, I may be the No Good Loser Tsuna, but I'll be damned if I don't get the costumes legitimately even if it takes me all competition."

Yu sighed, he just had to wait another few weeks or so. Hopefully the competition they were in doesnt continue without them

A look back

The team is formed!

In this world, your strength is not purely dictated by the power of you or your spirit. It’s the synergy, the connection between shaman and spirit, that dictates your strength. When the two share a similar mindset, one of unrelenting savagery and an appreciation of violence, you get a fearsome duo. You get....

Father-Daughter Bonding Time!

Theme
Pic credits go to FreestyleKneepad

Jack The Ripper!

”Don’t you get it? The born children… the unborn children… They all drift along the River Thames.”

Alright, strap in. Summoned as part of a Great Holy Grail War, Jack decided to rebel against her original master and save the sacrifice needed for her summoning. Thus, she found a new master, and spent her days protecting her new “mom”. As an assassin spirit, Jack lives up to her title, being able to stealthily and skillfully butcher her opponents. She can move silently, become invisible, flood an area with mist, and all the while, people won’t remember anything about her after the fact! She takes joy in her killing, toying with opponents and enjoying every wound she inflicts. Other than that, though, she’s just a normal kid. Well, a bunch of normal kids. Well, a vessel containing the souls of all the children who were abused and killed in Victorian England/an embodiment of the suffering caused by child abuse in Victorian England. So essentially, just a normal kid.

Senator Steven Armstrong!

”Making the mother of all omelettes here, Jack- can't fret over every egg!”

A college football superstar, Steven Armstrong decided his skills were better used somewhere else. He joined the navy, and eventually found his true calling in politics. From there, he found a perfect avenue to enact his plan on how to fix America. He would create a country where people would fight their own wars based on their own beliefs, and the people with societal power are the people with physical power. In his mind, this is the perfect way to revive the American Dream. Also, at some point, he got a shitton of Nanomachines put into his body, so he can harden parts of his body, utilize the machines to heal himself, and control them remotely to simulate a telekinesis ability. So uh… Don’t fuck with this senator?

And they face....

Your Team, But Stronger!

Theme

Animal Man!

”I'm covered in grass stains and ape saliva!”

Buddy Baker is a stuntman and a family man. But who gives a shit about that come scramble time, he’s also a superhero. Thanks to some extraterrestrial shenanigans, he has access to the morphogenic grid, basically a big catalogue of all the animals on earth (sometimes the universe, but dw about that right now). With it, he can borrow the powers of the beasts that inhabit this earth. Need to fly? It’s got falcons, hawks, hell, it’s got pigeons. Need some strength? Take your pick, there’s gorillas and elephants to get that done. Need to regrow a limb? Worm’ll do ya. Despite these great powers though, Buddy stays grounded, living for his family (before they died) and just trying to stop crime as best he can. Which is really good, on account of the whole animal powers thing.

Anti!

”Die!”

Wow that image joke fucking sucked. Anyways, Anti is the fucking best. He’s a kaiju designed to kill Gridman, but he’s so much more than that. To me, Anti is a companion, an acquaintance, a friend. Through thick and thin, Anti is always there for me. As he ate special dogs and got phones thrown at him, I was there with him. When I asked him why there was only one set of footprints, he said it’s because he left to fight Gridman he was carrying me. He makes me laugh, he makes me cry, he makes me sing, he makes me dance. He’s my son and damn it, I’m proud of him.

Fine, he’s a grumpy little shit who can transform into a gigantic robot monster that can copy abilities and shoot lasers.

Good kid.

Analysis:

So Animal Man and a giant 10-foot bear both walk into a room. Buddy’s got a history with bears so there is a strong chance Apollo is going to be a very scary threat to my team. As in, we’re not supposed to let him get hurt, but he will actively be trying to kill us. Beyond that, even with the power of the morphogenic field, Animal Man can also absorb the powers of animals around him. Like the ten-foot bear in our vicinity. With that factor, Animal Man is definitely going to be stronger than Jack. However, Jack still has the slight speed edge, so not all hope is lost. As well, Anti and Armstrong are pretty even when it comes to stats, Armstrong making up for his loss in strength with an insanely high durability. The fight is favoured slightly towards the copycats, and the prompt is VERY heavily in their favour. Yikers. Oh! and this doesn't really have an effect on the battle, but Armstrong is also the SENATOR OF COLORADO.

Part 1: Haha Armstrong Was The Senator of Colorado

Man, they really could not have had better luck than landing right outside Colorado.

“It’s just so crazy that I’m meeting you in person right now!” said the driver, barely keeping his eyes on the road. “I mean, Senator Steven Armstrong needing a ride in my truck! Crazy!”

In the backseat, Armstrong nodded along absentmindedly. As much as he liked to hear that his political stature was still impressive, this shaman fight had overtaken his thoughts. When Jack and himself power through whatever chumps they are thrown against, they'll obtain a phenomenal power. One that could allow Armstrong to reshape America into the nation he craves, where the strong stay strong and the weak are culled. And with Jack, he will be leading those United States.

Jack stared out the window. The snow here was really pretty. She hoped she could kill someone soon.

“You know, I knew there was no way you died. I saw the news everywhere but, no body? Yeah right!” The driver tuned his head around, a huge smile awaiting validation from his former senator. After a silent moment, the driver turned his attention back to the road. “Well, how did that story even start anyways?”

“Tabloids.” Armstrong muttered.

“Figures! Those “news” sources don't know what they're talking about. Say, uh…” he looked in the rear-view mirror, eyes settling on the strangely translucent Armstrong. “Have you seen the guy who's replaced you? Get this: Sylvester Stallone! Guess he saw Arnie work out and thought Rocky should get a go!”

The driver cackled, slapping his knee as he hunched forward. The car shook as the tires ran over the median, and the driver quickly corrected course. He turned around, bright red. “Sorry about that.”

Armstrong raised a hand. “No problem.” He eyed Jack, whose face was still practically pressed against the window. “Hey, how far do we have left? I don't remember the drive being this far.”

“Funny you should ask…” the driver answered, brimming with excitement. He rounded a corner into a sparsely populated parking lot. “Here we are!”

His desperate enthusiasm was met with a small cheer from Jack, and a satisfied smile from Armstrong. As they stepped into the brisk Colorado air, the driver motioned to the mass of snow and trees that was laid out in front of them. “There it is! Mesa Verde National Park!”

Armstrong, making extra effort to make it convincing he was genuinely walking, lit a cigar as he walked towards the view. “And the Patch Tribe is somewhere in here?”

“Yeppers!” The man smiled, giving a thumbs up. “All that Patch Tribe stuff is in there! It's at a… uhhh… Biff Palace or something.”

Jack giggled. “Biff Palace?”

“Something like that. I don’t really come up by these parts. No one does. Too dangerous!”

Jack tilted her head to the side. “Dangerous?”

“Yeah, lots of stories about the Beast of Mesa Verde. Monstrous thing. I saw it once, you know. Had to fight it off, but uhh..”

He was met with no response. He looked behind him. Both Jack and Armstrong were scanning the park ahead of them. The senator had a content grin, and the child’s eyes were filled with excitement. The driver sighed, his shoulders dropping. “Alright, fine, I heard a noise and dipped outta there right quick. Just don’t tell my wife that, alright?”

Armstrong walked up beside the man, flicking his cigar stub into the snow. Luckily, the friendly driver didn’t notice how it faded away, not affecting the snow at all. “You got it, son.”

The driver smiled. “Thanks.” He soaked in the moment, then turned on his heels and waved. “Well, I’ll be off. You wouldn’t happen to want any contact info, would you?” More silence. “Figured. Well, thanks for today. It was a pleasure.” The car door closed, and after some nervous maneuvering, took off the way it came in.

Armstrong turned to watch the car go. As it disappeared from sight, he looked down to his partner in this shaman fight. “Jack, that man may not have been the strongest, but… Well, I’m glad you weren’t hungry.”

Jack nodded in agreement. “We’re glad we didn’t have to kill him. He was nice to us.”

“Exactly.” Armstrong chuckled. “Plus, don’t want to kill a potential voter. I’m getting my body back at the end of this, and that Stallone asshole better be ready!”

Jack’s feet dragged through the snow, leaving two straight lines in her path. She twiddled a knife between her fingers, trying desperately to avoid the stark boredom that crept up on her. She looked to her left, scanning the tree beside her up and down. Yep, there it was. The tally she was keeping. Four parallel lines carved into the bark. Jack let out a small sigh, then quickly slashed across the tree.

Armstrong’s spirit materialized beside her as Jack continued to trudge through the powder. “What’s with the sighing? This is incredible!” Even in Spirit form, Jack could see Armstrong’s muscles flexing from excitement. “This is what America is! The untamed wilderness, this is why I love Colorado!” With that, he reached into his suit pocket, pulling out another cigar and a lighter. After a huge drag, he chuckled. “This is our land to discover, to explore, and to claim!”

“But its soooo coooollld… and borinnnngggg…Hey, didn’t that nice driver man say you were from here?”

“Well, of course. I was the fuckin’ senator of Colorado!”

“Well, senator man, where’s that Biff Palace place?”

“To be honest, Jack, I don’t know.”

“Why not?” Jack replied with a pout.

“Never been there!” Armstrong smiled as he took another drag from his cigar. “Love the park, though. Used to come here and just wander around, shirtless and fending for myself in the harsh Colorado conditions. That… that is what America is truly about.”

Armstrong glanced down to see if his wisdom was setting in with his young shaman. Jack, sighing again, put a sixth notch into that very same tree. Armstrong shook his head, fading back into transparency. However, Jack still heard him muttering about freedom and the rules of nature or something. But another voice cut through.

“Hey missy, you gotta be getting out of here!” A young, blonde woman ran up behind Jack. She had a gun strapped to her back, and a look of intensity. Jack’s hand instinctively reached for one of the knives at her hip, but something stopped her. The woman’s eyes went from a glare to a look of worry. Bluebell moved closer and kneeled down beside Jack, placing a hand on her shoulder. The assassin felt the warmth radiate off of the older woman. “Listen, sweetie. My name's Bluebell, I'm the park ranger here. There's a big wild animal 'round these parts, but don't worry, I'll get you out of this here danger zone real quick!” Bluebell stood up, turning towards the car. She stopped, and shot a side-eyed intense scowl at Jack. “Oh, and we will talk about those scratches on that there tree, believe me.”

u/RobstahTheLobstah Mar 23 '19

The truck tore through the snow, rocking up and down sporadically. Bluebell didn’t even seem to notice as her eyes stayed glued to the forest ahead. “So,” Bluebell broke the silence, vision still set ahead, “You have a home, sweetie? If you don’t mind me askin’.”

“Hmmmm. Not really!” Jack said, a smile on her face.

Bluebell was visibly taken aback by the cheeriness in Jack’s response. “Well, alright. How about after I get us out of this danger zone, I work on finding you a place to sleep tonight?”

“No!” Jack said with a startling negativity. “I need to find Biff Palace!” With that, Jack began trying to open the truck door to escape. However, the door was still locked, and Bluebell nabbed her by the necktie, something new that had been gifted to her as a medium, before she could move to unlock it.

“Not so fast, Missy!” Blueball scolded, finally taking her eyes off the path ahead. Her fierce gaze burned holes into Jack's head, and Blueball leaned in inches from the child's face. “I am the park ranger, and it is my duty to make sure that you are safe. You will do what I say, and you will remain safe.” Bluebell turned back to the windshield, a smile crossing back over her face. “Biff Palace, huh? Never heard that nickname, but I know what you mean. But hey, why's a kid like you going to Cliff Palace?”

Don't answer, Jack. We should keep the Shaman fight close to our chest, never know who may be in leagues with the enemy. Armstrong's words seemed to ring from inside her own head, a sensation the tiny murderer had still not gotten used to.

“For the Shaman fight!” Jack cheerily responded, despite the groan that filled her ears.

“Shamans, huh?” Bluebell seemed somewhat intrigued. “You know, there's lots of 'shamans’ 'round these parts. So what, you got some sort of spirit partner or ghost or something?”

Jack, don't say anything.

“Yep!”

Jack, STOP TALKING!

“His name is Armstrong! He looks kinda funny.”

Jack, I told you- what do you mean, funny?

Bluebell laughed. “Well, he seems like an interesting fella! Maybe I’ll meet him one day.”

Armstrong sighed, and slowly reformed into a visible shape in the truck. His huge frame completely filled the back beat, and if it wasn’t for the fact he didn’t have a physical presence, he would be quite uncomfortable. Bluebell turned, a look of disbelief washing across her face. “Aren’t you…”

Armstrong nodded. “The very same.”

“Huh.” Bluebell took a second, driving quietly. “So, Cliff Palace for you folks. Alright. I’ll drop you off nearby and y’all can walk the rest of the way, if that’s alright. I’ve gotta deal with this whole-”

crhk ”Bluebell, come in, Bluebell. crhk

The static overpowered any sound in the truck, startling the three occupants. Bluebell quickly reached for the receiver hung to the side of her dashboard, bringing it close to her mouth. “Yes, this is Bluebell, what’s going on?” There was an air of concern behind her usually stalwart tone.

Crhk It's Apollo. He's currently engaged with someone who we believe may be a hunter. If you’re gonna do something, you gotta get there fast! Chrk

The truck immediately drifted, rotating as snow flew every which way. “Change of plans, folks.” Bluebell said as she stomped on the gas. “Cliff Palace is gonna have to wait.”

The truck sped across the snowy park, narrowly avoiding trees as Bluebell steered with a fierce intensity. The onslaught of snow and ice on the windshield eventually let up as the truck entered a clearing. The windshield wipers cleared away the moisture, allowing the three to see the sight in front of them.

A bear, maybe 10 feet tall, standing in defiance to a man in front of him, who was donning a skintight orange and blue suit. The man stood with his arms out, fingers outstretched. Behind him stood a small boy, with stark silver hair and a huge scarf blocking his face. “Must be the hunters…” Bluebell muttered under her breath. Jack wasn’t so sure, though. She had seen her fair share of killers, and this man… something about his stance, his demeanor. He didn’t want to spill the blood of the beast in front of him. And the kid… Jack leaned forward in her seat. There. She saw it again. When the light hit him, the slightest of shimmers. He was translucent. He was a spirit.

Jack looked back at Armstrong, who was adjusting his glasses and smiling. “Yes, Jack. I see it too.” Then, he turned his eyes to the collosal bear. “And I also see an old friend.” Before Jack or Bluebell could question him, he passed through the door of the truck, already unbuttoning his jacket. Jack scrambled to follow him, opening the door and running to his side as he walked towards the action. Bluebell cautiously opened the door and climbed out, grasping her rifle. As Armstrong strolled up to both beast and ‘hunters’, he methodically rolled up his sleeves. “Well, well, it seems another shaman is searching for the Patch Village. And Anti, good to see you again, champ.”

The silver-haired boy scowled. Anti, Jack thought. He’s the spirit. So the one I stab is…

“So you’re another pair of shaman and spirit…” The man clad in spandex said. “Look, we don’t want any trouble. I just came here because of the bear.”

“And that’s where I come in!” Bluebell roared, the butt of her rifle tucked firmly into her shoulder and the barrel pointed squarely at the other shaman. “I’m gonna have to ask you to get away from Apollo, or I will be forced to interfere.”

The man became visibly frantic. “No, no, no, this is a misunderstanding. The bear is in a rage, I was just trying to see if I could help it. You may know me, I’m Animal Man. I -” he was cut off as a bullet whizzed over his shoulder.

Bluebell gave Animal Man a death stare through the sight on her rifle. “That’s a warning shot. Step away from Apollo.”

The superhero’s hands raised beside his head, worry flashing across his eyes behind the cover of his goggles. “Okay, will do. Just know that Apollo isn’t a terrifying killer. He just wants to live his life. He’s scared of the people that come after him, don’t-”

“YOU THINK I DON’T KNOW THAT!” interrupted Bluebell. “Just get away from him, and we can all go along with our day.”

Jack crept up beside Armstrong, who was still staring at the towering figure of Apollo. “Armstrong?” she chimed in.

“Yes, Jack?”

“The guy in the weird suit, he’s a shaman right?”

“Seems to be.”

“And that weird kid, he’s like you?”

“Yes, Anti is a spirit, like me.”

“So we have to beat them in the shaman fight, right?”

Armstrong chuckled. “Now you’re getting the hang of it, Jack.”

With that, Jack began sprinting through the snow, making a beeline for Animal Man. She unsheathed one of her knives as he turned his attention towards her. A devilish smile crept to Jack’s face as she blitzed past him.

One slash, a deep cut into the right hip.

Animal Man grasped at his side, falling to a knee in pain. “Damn… Do I really have to fight her?

Armstrong appeared beside Jack. “Now, that’s what I like to see, Jack!” He floated alongside her, grinning as she began to run in a wide circle. “This guy is a chump! You take him on, but channel me into something, kid. I’ve got unfinished business.” He stopped, turning to look at the titan of an ursine nearby. “I’m coming for Round 2, Apollo!”

I Remember It Like It Was Yesterday…

There stood the very thing Armstrong had been searching for. He had been carving through this forest all day, and this wasn’t even his first time doing this. These legends, they intrigued him to no end. The Beast of Mesa Verde, huh? Well, we’ll see how it stands to this future Senator!

Apollo, 7 feet tall and nearly as wide, created an imposing silhouette on the starry sky. His claws protruded from the mangled mass of fur that were his paws, which were the end of tree trunk-like arms. The beast breathed slowly, each pant visible thanks to the freezing cold of a Colorado winter. The one eye it had was trained on the man in front of him. Young, spry, but insanely built. Looked about as close to Apollo as a human could get. The stance this human took was one Apollo knew far too well. A low squat, a challenge of dominance. Apollo dropped low, assuming the same stance. The snow fell softly. The wind seemed to stop as they locked eyes and came to a silent agreement. And they charged.

Apollo made the first move. A swipe, one massive claw moving at alarming speed. Armstrong rooted himself, meeting the attack head on. With grit teeth, he slid through the snow before slowing to a stop.Armstrong pushed back, and thanks to the element of surprise, Apollo’s paw actually moved, allowing Armstrong a moment to sock the ursine across the nose. Apollo roared, and brought both claws down with authority. A glancing blow caught Armstrong’s left shoulder, but from a beast of such mythical proportions, glancing was still highly dangerous. The young politician held back a cry of pain, catching his footing beneath him, and looking up to his opponent, an amused smile on his face.

The entire night, the two clashed. Fist and claw, tooth and nail. As the sun began to rise, they stood across from each other. Splotches of red were littered across the white snow. Both creatures bled, and made the other bleed. Cuts, scrapes, and bruises littered both bodies, trophies of momentary victories in this war. The warmth of day hit them, creeping across their bodies like an ethereal force. They had come to yet another silent agreement.

They both collapsed, face first into the cold snow.

And Now Back To Our Regularly Scheduled Programming…

“Alright, kid. Need you to put me in that tie of yours.”

Jack tilted her head. Armstrong always had these big plans that Jack would never quite be privy to. Nevertheless, she did as he asked. Reaching into the the essence of her spirit partner, she contained it, creating a small sphere in her hand. In one swift motion, she pushed the orb into her tie, and Armstrong's spirit spread across the necktie, imbuing it with a new power. A voice rang out from from the back of Jack's mind. Alright kid, now just chuck this in the air. I can handle the rest. Jack obliged again, quickly loosening the tie before flinging it in the air.

The tie blotted out the sun, as a gigantic chest had sprout from it. Little by little, more of Armstrong's body appeared, his massive frame before his more chiseled details. As the oversoul fully manifested, a determined smile found it's place in the sky, and Armstrong fell to the earth. Stepping out of the small crater he made, he straightened out his tie.

'Oversoul: Maximum Senator!” Cried Jack, throwing a fist in the air with excitement.

The Senator stretched his fingers Armstrong held out a hand, one of the three command seals he had been given glowing. “Jack, Apollo and I have a date. And as much as I'd love to whup the Florida Gators fan in spandex over there, I'm gonna need you to handle that for a while. But…” he gave a worried glance past Jack, his eyes locking on to Anti, who angrily glared back. “He's got a spirit on his side. Jack, I trust you, but I wanna make sure we make it to the end of this Shaman Fight. So, Jack, using this command seal, I command you to fight Animal Man with all the fucking power you got and then some!”

Jack nodded, the devilish smile making another appearance. She turned and sprinted away, revealing 6 knives pinched between her knuckles. Armstrong turned, sizing Apollo up with his eyes. “Seems you've grown since last time! Well then,” Armstrong stomped a leg, dropping into a sumo squat. “Bring it on, you walking rug!”

Jack ran with her body close to the ground, eyes trained on Animal Man as he slowly climbed to his feet. Jack pushed off the ground, leaping high into the air before sending all 6 knives she had prepared speeding towards the superhero. He stood thinking for just a second, then with an incredible burst of speed, dashed laterally, making the knives simply land with a crunch into the crisp snow. Jack didn't even notice however, as she had already course corrected. She gripped one of her larger knives, dashing up to her for and aiming for a diagonal slash across the chest. Her hand stopped, caught by the man in front of her. “You know,” Animal Man said, “if you knew anything about my powers, you'd know you probably don't wanna fight right now.”

His other hand reached over to the same wrist, latching on with a surprising force. Taking a step back, he heaved Jack over his shoulder, following through with his body and arms as his assailant went flying. Upon impact, Jack sunk into the snow, nearly disappearing from sight. “I can absorb powers from animals. Normally, I just use the idea of the animal I got in my head, but,” he turned and looked over his shoulder, “sometimes the ones that are nearby can be even more useful.”

Jack pushed herself to her feet, clumps of snow falling off her shoulder. She gritted her teeth, gripping her knife again. She began to dash in a circle, trying to confuse her opponent, but found herself confused as Animal Man easily kept up with her. Jack adapted quickly, pivoting as she sent a small knife flying at the superhero’s leg. It found its mark on the upper thigh, sticking in as Animal Man fell to the ground. With a smile, Jack followed up, leaping behind him to plunge a knife into his shoulder. Animal Man gasped in pain, grabbing wildly at the wound before his hand found Jack’s. Again, he used the strength of Apollo to throw her in front of him, but she was prepared for it this time. She turned in the air, landing skillfully on her feet. Animal Man struggled to his feet and spat out some blood. “Damn it… Alright, Anti, buddy, let’s start working.” He reached his hand into the air, and Anti’s spirit formed into a ball shape in his hand. His other hand had already equipped a strange buzzsaw device, and he combine the two to make the saw glow with a purple energy. He stepped forward, the saw whirring with malice. He thrust it forward, the rotation getting even faster until it seemed to just be a circle of pure purple energy.

Then, the lasers started.

Shooting out of the buzzsaw, multiple small lasers began to fly. It lit up the battlefield like a light show, hundreds of projectiles launching towards Jack the Ripper. She braced herself, and charged forward, trying to dodge all she could. It worked for about 10 seconds, but one caught her foot. The second she took to react to the pain allowed another to hit her shoulder, and it was all downhill from there. More and more slammed into her, creating a huge explosion of force that sent her tumbling backwards. She dug herself out of the snow, looking up at her opponent as she felt blood start to pour out of the side of her head.

“We don’t have to do this, you know.” Animal Man calmly said.

Jack, in response, charged again.

“It's good to see you again, Apollo.” Armstrong said, still dropped low in a sumo squat.

The bear, getting low, growled in response.

“I see you've grown quite a bit. Let's see how that works for you!” With that, both beings let out a primal roar and charged forward. In a pure, barbaric test of strength, they collided in the middle, both trying to jostle for control. Two unstoppable forces colliding, but one just slightly won out in this case. Armstrong shoved the bear over, sending it tumbling backwards. It was quick to get back to its feet, though, and stuffed Armstrong's attempted followup with a massive swipe. Like a volleyball, the spirit was spiked into the ground. Back to neutral for both competitors. They slowly circled, already breathing heavily. Apollo moved first this time, grabbing hold of a nearby tree and tearing it from the ground, sending snow and dirt flying across the battlefield. WIth a mighty roar, it launched the tree at Armstrong, wildly flipping in the air. Armstrong braced himself, digging his feet into the snow. The tree hit like a truck, but compared to what Armstrong had faced before, it was more than bearable. He grasped onto the tree, hugging it close to his chest as he slid backwards. The momentum slowed and slowed until he came to a stop, still clinging to the tree. “Not bad,” he spat out, “but lemme show you how we did it back in college!” He heaved the tree up, and returned it to sender. A perfect spiral, the tree soaring across the field into the chest of Apollo. It splintered as it hit, and Apollo tumbled backwards as wood chips rained down.

Bluebell yelled out from the truck. “Apollo!” She ran beside Armstrong, grabbing his arm. “What are you doing, don’t kill him!”

“Missy, if you think that’s gonna kill that son of a bitch, you’ve got another thing coming.” He went to step forward, but Bluebell stayed clung to his arm. “Look, we’re not going to the death. We’re going until one of us proves dominance.”

Bluebell hesitated, but slowly let go of his arm. She nodded slowly, “Alright. But,” that signature intensity crossed her face again, “If I see you even think about doing more than that, there’ll be hell to pay.”

“Wouldn’t expect any different.” Armstrong nodded, then took off again, leaping into the forest to pursue Apollo.

About ten seconds later, Armstrong came flying back out, slamming his back into a tree. Apollo lumbered behind, panting but seemingly content. As Armstrong climbed to his feet, he chuckled. “You know, you’ve really grown quite a bit, Apollo.”

The bear simply roared in response. He lumbered forward, picking up a paw to finish this fight. With a quickness that shouldn’t come from something it’s size, it brought a paw down. But it stopped about 2 metres from the ground.

Armstrong pushed the paw to the side, tucking it under his armpit as best he could. His arms were jet black, and he had a satisfied smirk on his face. “But I’ve picked up a few tricks too, y’know.” If a bear could show worry, it was written on Apollo’s face. Armstrong reached up, yanking the fur of the ursine’s neck to bring its head down. He grabbed hold, and with a mighty yell and a stomp, lifted with all his might. Apollo’s legs slowly lifted off the ground, and as hard as it struggled, they found themselves with no support. Armstrong heaved, suplexing the bear over him in a tremendous display of force. Apollo landed in the snow, sending out a shockwave that cleared some needles from the trees. Armstrong turned around, facing his downed opponent. Smack! One slap, across the nose of the bear.

The beast grunted lowly, then rolled over, back up on 4 legs. Armstrong let out a hearty laugh. “That was a good bout there, pal.” He patted the bear, scruffing up the already matted hair. “Alright, get outta here. See ya next time.” The bear obliged, trudging into the dense forest. “Next time…” Armstrong echoed.

Jack wasn’t having the best of times.

Even with the buff from the command seal, she wasn’t a match for a shaman and spirit duo, especially because part of her energy was being used to keep Armstrong’s form tangible. Anti’s power was too much, and Animal Man was nothing to sneeze at.

But a command seal is a command seal. And hell, jack probably wouldn’t mind anyways. She dashed in again, aiming a horizontal slash at the superhero’s neck. He easily ducked underneath it, and also deftly sidestepped the followup vertical slash. Jack jumped backwards, throwing a knife at the torso of her opponent. “Anti!” Animal Man called out. He brought up his buzzsaw, and from it sprouted a gigantic metal fist. The knife clanged off of it harmlessly, leaving nothing but a scuff in the purple colour. As Jack landed, Animal Man rushed forward, and brought that very same fist crashing into her with incredible force. Jack tumbled head over heels, smacking off the ground along the way. Sprawled in the snow, she sat up, coughing up blood. Animal Man stood in front of her, aiming the buzzsaw directly at her. A dull purple glow began to shine from its frontmost point, which grew brighter and brighter. Jack climbed to her feet, smiling through the blood dripping down her face. As the glow became brilliantly bright, she began to charge head-on towards it. A command seal is a command seal, after all.

A powerful laser burst from the weapon, one single beam with a force that Jack knew she couldn’t withstand. But she kept running, head down and teeth gritted.

Boom.

She ran into Armstrong, who smiled before letting out a grunt of pain. The light emanated from behind him as the laser drilled into his nanomachine-protected back, which only did so much to block the power of the attack. As the light faded, Jack looked up, and was met with a warm smile from her spirit partner. “Kept you waiting, huh?” he said, before backing up. “Thanks for that, Jack. Just some unfinished business I had to handle. Now, let’s get rid of these jokes. Together.” He began to fade away, from the bottom to the top, until the only thing that remained was his tie, still in a knot. Jack nabbed it, throwing it around her neck and tightening it just like Armstrong had taught her.

“Let’s go!” cried Jack, brandishing two knives.

Animal Man and Jack made their way forward, circling ever so slightly. The superhero was the first to speak.

“You know, I still really don’t want to do this.”

“Then die!” Jack screamed, dashing forward and landing a surprise nick on Animal Man’s thigh. In response, he brought a his left fist down, catching a glancing blow as Jack tried to block. That wasn’t it, however, as his leg kicked out, pushing Jack back a couple of steps. He followed up by thrusting his buzzsaw forward, as hundreds of laser shots shot out of it.

Jack! Armstrong’s voice rang in the killer’s head. The Oversoul! Jack nodded, channeling Armstrong’s spirit. From the tie began to spread an onyx colouring, coating Jack’s chest in a protective layer. The lasers impacted harmlessly against the nanomachines. Jack let that signature terrifying smile shine through once more. Animal Man cursed under his breath, lowering the buzzsaw.

”Oversoul: Nanomachine Defense!”

“Alright, Anti.” he said, a determined look on his face. “We have to finish this now.” Anti's head materialized for just a second, staring back at Animal Man and nodding. With a yell, Animal Man raised his buzzsaw into the air. Slowly, a form took shape around it. It looked similar to the arm that the duo had made earlier, but just a bit different. It was shaped like a tiger’s claw, but with much larger claws and a much, MUCH larger shape.

Jack, I have an idea. Armstrong quickly muttered the details as Jack nodded along. Normally, she didn’t really listen, but this was a fight. Jack was enjoying this way too much to not be tuned in. She nodded, and excitedly made her way towards her opponent.

It all happened at once. Animal man brought down the monstrous tiger/kaiju hybrid claw, and Jack activated an Oversoul yet again. This time, Armstrong’s torso and arms appeared, materializing around Jack’s very own. ”Oversoul: Arms of Colorado!” The assassin braced herself, and raised her own arms, with Armstrong’s moving in perfect unison. They met the foes’ attack, the ground shaking under the tremendous force. Jack grunted, exerting as much energy as she could to hold the projection. The fight Armstrong had with Apollo helped, but it drained Jack a lot. But with one final yell, she pushed back with just enough force to throw Animal Man off balance. The opening she needed. Dropping the Oversoul, she dashed past her opponent, brandishing a single knife.

A deep cut, right into the side of the neck.

Animal Man’s eyes went wide with shock. He dropped to his knees, his own Oversoul fading away as he desperately reached for his neck. The spirit of Anti visibly drifted away, fading into the ethereal plane. The superhero fell face-first into the snow, and his body went limp. Jack had won.

“Good work, Jack!” Armstrong’s booming voice broke the silence as he appeared, back in his normal spirit form. “With that out of the way, we can just hop back in the truck with Bluebell and-”

The truck zoomed past, at just the right speed for them to see the horrified face of Bluebell as she fled from the scene.

“Huh.” Armstrong put his suit jacket back on, dusting it off in places. “Well, I guess a little more time in the great Colorado outdoors won’t hurt us!”

Jack let out a long groan, tucking her knife back into its sheath.

The Strongest Magical Girl of the Universe

"Don't tell your friends!" (>_P)~☆

Mamika Kirameki, The Magical Slayer

Mamika is from the series 'Re:creators.' In that series, she's actually from an anime called 'Magical Slayer Mamika' where she fights for smiles and laughter against the evil forces of Akumarin. However, after a strange incident occurred, she was pulled into the real world. When she learned her entire world could change at the whims of her creator, instead of breaking down, she resolved to force her creator to make her world a better place, even if she had to rough 'em up a bit. She'd be nice about it though, definitely. Unfortunately, she was less able to brush off the fact that her actions actually could end up hurting people. While there is never much side damage in Magical Slayer Mamika, the real world is far more delicate. It was entering a box of cardboard while holding a watergun. A tough realization for Mamika.

Mamika is a magical girl, through and through. She has a transformation sequence activated by shouting 'Magical Dolce Patissiere,' she can fly, and she shoots hearts both offensively and defensively. However, she often hold back from using the full power of her hearts, which is good since it was removed for the purposes of the scramble. Right?

"I am Adam, prince of Eternia..."

He-Man, The Master of Eternity

Adam is the prince of Eternia. He's a bit of a bumbling buffoon, who enjoys having fun, and is very soft spoken. However it is just a ruse, to keep his enemies unaware. For you see, fantastic magical powers were revealed to him when he held his sword aloft and called out 'By the power of Greyskull... I have the Power!' Now, as He-Man, one of the Masters of the Universe, he works to protect the secrets of castle Greyskull from the evil forces of Skeletor. Only three people know his secret, his friends: The Sorceress, Man-at-Arms, and Orko.

There isn't really a clear demonstration of what He-man can do because he has no real respect thread. However, based on my general understanding, he is strong and tough. He has some more exotic powers if you read through the comics, but since this is the cartoon show, we don't have to think about that. Right?

Aerial Supremacy

"I'll do whatever it takes to keep that promise."

Raven, The Gravity Phoenix

Raven was originally a mysterious and hostile shifter of gravity who opposed Kat's actions. However, it was eventually revealed that she was actually a good guy who thought Kat was attempting to interfere with a rescue operation of a bunch of kids that had been tossed over the edge of the world. After that reveal they became close friends and allies.

Raven controls gravity. Generally, she uses this to fly straight at an enemy so she can kick them in the face. Beyond that, she can create a field to lift up objects and toss them at her opponents. If she's in the middle of nowhere though, that is no barrier- she can create small energy balls called 'Blue Jays' to let her harass at a distance.

"I'm supposed to be so far ahead of the curve no one else can even see the curve."

Iron man, Modular Master of Mechanics

Tony Stark, a total flake, as he is often known by those familiar with him. The man showed up 40 minutes late to a meeting he set. Why? Because his life is in shambles. His friends are dying. People are turning against him and trying to steal his company out from under him, as usual. Doctor Doom keeps trying to get all buddy-buddy with him which is probably the worst part- the man even stole his girlfriend.

On the brighter side, Tony has a new suit- the Model 51. It is attached to his brain synapses and capable of changing shape and color scheme at the drop of a hat, essentially capable of turning into any of his armor modes, which means he can bust out stealth tech, repulsors and unibeams, force fields and more.

Analysis

Spirits

I don't really think the spirit part matters? They don't directly compete- it's all about how they can be used as an oversoul. In which case, Iron Man is better. Invisibility, making Raven's ranged attacks faster, amping her stasis- Iron man is great for this.

He-man, not so much. He is personally strong, which you can't really apply as a spirit. And he is... that's about it.

Shamans

Much more interesting fight. Mamika has far better flight capabilities than Raven. She is faster and more agile in the air. In a forest that's pretty helpful. Raven's attacks are a lot stronger though, and she has several tide turning super moves she can use.

Mamika can fire off her ranged attacks faster than Raven can pick up junk using her stasis to block them, and her shield should help with any foxfire or junk sent her way, so she can attempt to wear Raven down.

Overall, the advantage goes to The Gods of Keep Away for their versatility.

Day 18 of the war to be Shaman King

“I think you should accept that we are lost.” Mamika glanced around the forest. Pretty forest-y. Her own home had nothing like this. Her Creator had preferred to keep things in the city, probably so she could keep the detail low (let’s not think about how everyone that wasn’t her was a faceless goon most of the time), SO this was cool over all.

Still lost though.

“We aren’t lost, Mamika, we just don’t know where we are. We still have a heading.” Adam floated beside her. After a while in her staff, Mamika had gotten tired, and he’d popped right back out, seemingly no worse for wear. Actually, she was pretty sure she’d caught a flash of a lot of skin, but she’d been a bit distracted at the time.

“Oh? Okay, do you know where we are, Mr. Squirrel? You’re the one that brought us out here.” Mamika directed her question towards the little animal that was shooting back and forth along the forest floor before them.

It did not answer. It was a squirrel.

Certainly, it had been a talkative, if formal beast, back when the power of whatever Adam had done was coursing through it, but once that faded, along with losing its incredible, heart pounding speeds, it also lost its ability to talk. Or think.

Mamika was fairly sure the only reason it was sticking around now was because it didn’t know what else to do.

“Don’t worry Mamika, Man-at-Arms taught me some survival techniques when I was younger. Let’s see… the sun rises in the east, and we’ve been walking since day break… so we should head that way.” Adam pointed.

Mamika looked. Yep, that was forest over there. The magical girl sighed but obliging started to trudge in that direction. It wasn’t like she had any other ideas. Her attempts to force Adam back into her scepter had proven fruitless- she couldn’t call upon that power she’d felt before and couldn’t bring Battle-Squirrel back into action.

This whole Shaman King thing seemed to suck so far. At least she’d been able to snack on sweets back home.

Despite Mamika’s efforts to be a sourpuss, it couldn’t last. Even with as much of the forest as she’d seen so far, it was still wonderful to her. It was so vibrant and full of life- She’d seen deer frolicking, actually frolicking, through the trees, so unafraid one of the little fawns had run up to her, sniffing at her.

Mr. Squirrel had taken offense to that, and chittered until the deer had backed off, but not before Mamika had been able to sneak in several heavy pets to the creature’s noggin.

It seemed something just reminded Mr. Squirrel of that event. He zipped over to Mamika and scurried up her uniform to rest on her shoulder, nuzzling his soft squishy face against her cheek.

Who could stay mad when something like that happened? Not Mamika, that was certain. She giggled a bit and kept going, now traipsing along her trailblazed path.

“So Adam… why did you get taught by this Manny Arms guy?” Mamika asked eventually, the silence, save for the sounds of the forest, growing cumbersome.

“Man-at-Arms? Well, you remember that I told you I am a prince?” Adam’s focus turned to her with an easy smile. He seemed to be enjoying all this greenery well enough, looking an everything was a permanent half smile on his face. Dick.

“…Yes.” Mamika’s eyes swam towards the side.

“Right, so, as prince,” Adam gave no sign that he noticed her hesitance. Dick. “it is my responsibility to handle any situation that might come my way. Sometimes that means fighting, though I’m not great at that, sometimes I might get caught out in the wilds when trying to get to a diplomatic meeting, and sometimes that means knowing what fork I’m supposed to use for salads at a gala.”

“It’s left most one, by the way.” Adam said.

“Oh, cool.” Mamika said, nodding in appreciation. There were different forks for salads? “Sounds like you learned a lot. I was just doing pre-calc and history and stuff. Y’know, when I wasn’t fighting off the forces of Akumarin.”

That wasn’t really a brag. Mamika wasn’t trying to compete with Adam to have one of them look cooler. It was just sharing details. That’s what comrades did, to build comradery. That’s why those words were spelt the same.

Adam looked her over. “That’s pretty impressive! A friend of mine, Teela, would get along with you. She’s one of the finest fighters in the land, constantly fending off the evils of Skeletor, along with He-Man and the Master of the Universe.”

“He-man?” This Teela sounded pretty cool. Mamika made a note to ask about her later.

Adam worked his jaw for a bit before explaining. He took a long enough pause that Mamika actually looked over to see if he’d missed the question, though the sight of him kinda… shrinking in on himself prevented her from saying anything.

“He-man is a barbarian. He rides down from the hills to save civilization and runs back off until he's needed again. He’s strong, brave, and everyone respects him, including King Randor. He’s… a hero. A bit like the opposite of me, I guess.”

There was some… thing, in the way that he said that. Mamika couldn’t decipher it. It almost sounded like pain or jealously, but blunted, muted in some way that practically quashed it. If Mamika hadn’t heard nothing but Adam’s voice for the past two weeks, she might have just dismissed it as some weird quirk of his voice.

“Adam…” Mamika floundered for a bit, then said, “sounds like you could learn a lesson or two from this guy. Don’t worry- A lot of people are really nice if you give them a chance! I’m sure he’d help you out.”

Adam gave her a strange look, before nodding. “I bet you’re right. He-man will always be on the side of good, and hey, that’s my side too. Even if I can’t help it that much.”

Mamika nodded herself, confident that she had just aced that little response.

She skipped along pleased as… oh, what was this?

“A road! Civilization! I knew we weren’t lost.”

And suddenly, the good feelings that had been flowing through Mamika faded away, as she shot her spirit a look. “Don’t you even try that with me, Adam. You didn’t know this road was here. You still don’t know where we are!”

“Well… we could just ask for directions,” Adam said, lackadaisically.

“That’s a pretty good idea.” Mamika made a show of looking left and right and up and down. “Huh. I don’t see anyone. Did you mean we should ask the trees where to go? Excuse me, Mr Tree? Do you know how to get to- “

HONK HONK

Mamika screamed, turning around to see a truck bearing down on her, her reflection visible in the glass and outlining her own doom. Her eyes snapped shut as she waited for the end to come, knowing she wouldn’t have enough time to transform.

Waiting.

It was coming. She could feel herself calm down, knowing death was inevitable.

It was funny how the final moments seemed to stretch out for an eternity. She wondered if it would hurt, when she was hit. Would it sting? Or would she pass on in an instant?

“Mamika.”

Dang, so even in death her spirit would continue to haunt her. Never should have joined this war… Mamika figured she may as deal with her unfortunate afterlife and opened her eyes.

Hooooonk

“As it turns out, the truck wasn’t moving,” Adam noted, floating off to the side of the road.

“Thanks, Adam,” Mamika muttered, before making her way over to the side of vehicle.

Luckily, it was rolled down. Less luckily, a very unimpressed lady was staring at her. “Hun, do you have in the teensiest ide-ya of how much trouble you’re in?”

“Uh… no?”

The woman rolled her eyes. “Names Bluebell. It’s nice to meet you, and you’re under arrest. Get in.”

The truck drove along the road as quietly as a truck could. Much quieter, was the inside of the truck, a frosty silence generated by a young woman that would take monstrous amounts of willpower to speak through.

“Look kid-uh, Mamika. It was just a joke. I’m sorry.”

Just a joke. Just a JOKE!

HaHaHa, it was just a joke, Mamika realized. Her future hadn’t almost been destroyed in one single instant as she was arrested, and her capture was put on her permanent record. No doubt the crying as she realized she was never going to be able to go to college or get a job was especially humorous.

She hadn’t even been able to muster the will to go Magical and fly away in a dash, not that she would. It had been ingrained in her too heavily that you had to obey police officers. And all the officers in her home were so nice! They helped her rescue civilians while she fought off evil black oozes and demons or whatever Akumarin had decided to scheme with that week. They never gave her any trouble- heck a lot of them were almost great friends.

Apparently, that wasn’t so around here. Park ranger Bluebell, despite her ‘sorry’s, no doubt felt zero remorse for the emotional turmoil she’d sent Mamika through. Otherwise she would have said something before Mamika had buckled herself in (safety first, kids), with fat tears dripping from her face.

Apparently, Bluebell only wanted to scare her. Something about how these woods weren’t safe for kids, and that she should have known better, and where her parents were, and how did she get so deep inside the zone anyway. A lot of stuff that Mamika pretty much ignored as she slowly collected the pieces of her shattered world and put them back together once she realized she wasn’t actually arrested.

”Look, I was jus’ trying to impart upon you the seriousness of what could have happened. There’s bears out here, bigguns too. I don’t want to see a slip like you get gobbled up.” Bluebell tried again.

Adam have compressed himself down into the back seat ineffectively spoke up, unheard by the park ranger. “Lighten up, Mamika. It was a harmless joke in the end. Oh, and now you can ask her for directions too! Don’t let your poor mood make this chance slip away.”

Eventually, and perhaps with some encouragement from Mr. Squirrel, Mamika bit out a small “Fine.”

Bluebell glanced over, assuming that was meant for her. “…Good. Good!” She drove on for a while longer, before her duties required her to ask, “So, what exactly was your plan out there hun? Running away from home?”

“I’m trying to find some place called ‘Cliff place’ in Mass Verdun park. I was… paid?? To go there, and I’m no whelcher,” Mamika said, wincing a bit at her excuse. That didn’t sound suspicious as all, right team? People back home bought the excuse of ‘Oh I was just studying at a friends house teehee’ all the time when she was doing night-ops, and everyone accepted ‘Huh? I was in the bathroom’ like it was pure gospel.

Curse her creator for making everyone in her world so naïve. She’d never trained her skills of deception, and now that was coming to bite her in the bum.

“Mass Verdu…” Bluebell shook her head, “You mean Mesa Verde? That’s just up north, not more than a 2 hours’ drive. Now, I don’t know nothing about this ‘Cliff Place’ but the only thing of any real note up there is this big set of ruins. That might be just what you’re looking for.”

Bluebell licked her lips, and continued, “Now, I don’t know why your friend wants you to head on up there, but… I will take you, if you promise to do what I say. I don’t want you running off on your lonesome and getting hurt, ya hear?”

Mamika nodded eagerly. This was basically the dream scenario. She had a guide. She had someone to talk to besides Prince Fabulous back there. Things couldn’t be better. “It’s a deal Ms Ranger!”

“That’s just swell. And, y’can call be Bluebell. I’m no Miss.” Bluebell kept her eyes on the road, occasionally swerving to avoid fallen branches and overturned rocks.

“Gosh, we need more funding here…” She muttered, mentally marking down all the debris for later cleaning.

“Okay Bluebell!” Mamika nodded again. Finally, things were looking up…

They’d been driving on and off for what must have been 5 hours by that point. Mamika was actually positive that she would have been better off if she’d flown straight in the air and picked a direction at random.

“Um, Bluebell, do we really have to keep stopping all the time?” Mamika asked with a strained smile and a tilted head. That smile only grew more strained as Adam pointed out that ‘they really weren’t in any rush, and they’d actually be getting to the village pretty early compared to their deadline.’

Well, screw you, Adam. You aren’t the one that wants to take a shower, the filth of weeks having built up on her body. You aren’t the one that wants to have an actual meal instead of foraging through the wildlands looking for fruits and vegetables. Mamika didn’t care how much ‘survival training’ Adam had gone though. There was no way she was going to eat a goddamned mushroom off the ground.

Bluebell got off her haunches and brushed off her hands before point at the ground. “You see that?”

Mamika sighed and looked. “Oh…”

It was a paw print. It looked like a regular one, if it weren’t for the fact that Mamika could curl up and fit comfortably inside the depression.

“That there belongs to Apollo, the king around these parts. I’ve been tracking his movements to make sure he isn’t straying towards the edges. I can’t let him run into any humans,” Bluebell said, “Otherwise… Well he wouldn’t be sticking around. And I won’t let that happen.”

She got up and walked toward the truck, pulling out a small notebook. “If I know where he is, I can figure out where he will be, and try and head him off before he gets there. And hey, I don’t want no complaints- you agreed to do what I say, Mamika.”

“Sorry, I’m just a little antsy. I’m so close to my goal, and it feels like for every step I take, I have to stand there for 10 minutes.”

Bluebell nodded as she started up the truck once more, headed down the road again. “I get ya. Sometimes, my job seems like its just as endless. I try and protect Apollo, but every year people come waltzing back into the park to come after him. It’s… rough. But I’ll do my job, and you’ll do yours. We’ll get to the Mesa soon enough.”

“Yeah… I know,” Mamika nodded, before perking up slightly, “You’re protecting Apollo huh? He’s seems huge though. Does he really need help?”

“Course he does!” Bluebell said, snorting. “Look, it’s not that I think someone is gonna hurt him. I’m more worried about him hurting someone else.”

At Mamika’s look of confusion, it was Adam that stepped up to explain. “If Apollo hurts someone, he has to be put down Mamika. A dangerous animal, even if it’s just trying to protect itself, just can’t be left alone. Not when lives are at stake.”

“Oh…” Mamika frowned. “But couldn’t you just move Apollo somewhere else? That way everyone gets to be happy.”

Bluebell smiled at the thought but shook her head. “Too expensive. And too risky. Bears are clever animals, Apollo more than most. He’d probably blaze a trail right back to his home, and damn who ever got in his way. Me and my Pa’ practically raised that bear, but we can’t let him run amuck.”

Mamika made a sound of discontentment. That was lame. Surely there had to be someway to teach Apollo to avoid people for good, or get him somewhere he wasn’t at risk. Surely…

The truck drove on silently, all of its occupants absorbed in thought.

Then, there was an unexpected crackle as the radio sprang to live.

Ksshhh- Bluebell, Do you read? We have an emergency. Baby Bear has found someone in its bed, sector 9H. You need to get over there, fast, and get who ever it is out of there.

Bluebell swore, and pedal slammed into the floor of the truck. "Sorry about this Mamika, but I have a job to do. Just keep your head down, and stay inside, and everything will be fine. We'll be done with this in a jiffy."

Tires screeched on tarmac as the truck tore forward, blazing a bumpy trail through the woods towards their new destination.

Mamika could hardly respond, too busy getting jostled back and forth, and holding her mouth shut to make sure she didn't bite her tongue.

Fortunately, they were able to get there fast, just in time to see a truly massive bear let out a roar towards a woman standing before it.

The car screeched to a halt, spitting up stones and pebbles, while Bluebell dove out of the car, shouting for the woman to get away from Apollo.

And yet it was far too late. There was no way she'd get there in time, no way that...

The woman flashed blue, and suddenly a massive rock tore its way free of the ground, flying towards Apollo at lethal speeds, who seemed stunned at the reversal, and unable to move.

Even Bluebell pulled up short in shock, just watching as death flew towards her friend. Nothing could done at this point.

A streak of pink shot through the air, intercepting the rock with a mighty crash as it exploded. When the dust settled, at that remained was a floating pink heart.

Magical Slayer Mamika, in full regalia, slowly floated down in front of it.

"I think that was a bit of an over reaction, don't you?"

1

u/Visarak Mar 22 '19

Mamika stared across the glade at the other woman as her glowingness faded away, leaving her back to looking normal. She seemed to be wearing a pretty revealing outfit, which immediately put Mamika on guard. Everyone knew that the quote unquote sexier your outfit was, the better your chances of being evil. Also pretty evil was the weird metal head on her waist.

"Who are you, and why are you bullying this bear?"

Behind her, she could hear Apollo shuffling around. Good, it didn't seem like he'd been hurt by any stray rubble. And Bluebell was off near the road still, mostly just sitting there.

That meant she could turn all of her attention towards this mystery woman. Who was still silent.

Adam phased into existence behind her, which was sort of comforting. He wouldn't exactly be useful if this came to blows, but it was nice to know she wasn't alone in this.

Only, hold on... neither was her opposite. Mamika had blinked, and suddenly, a golden golem had appeared next to her, same head as the one at her waist.

Then the golem talked.

"Hey, no need for hostilties here. We're the good guys. Well, Raven here is a good guy. I happen to be a great guy. Maybe even a fantastic guy if you want to stretch it a bit. A marvelous guy? My point being- you should just carry on your way. That beast back there is clearly not natural. It'd be down right villainous to leave it here to prey on unsuspecting hikers."

Mamika flourished her scepter, holding it aloft. "I can't allow that. I, Mamika, vowed to protect the smiles and friendships throughout the world. You can't kill Bluebell's friend just because you think something is dangerous."

Behind her, Adam spoke up, "Mamika, that man is a spirit. These two are a pair, similar to us. Be careful."

Mamika gave a small dip of her head, the only sign of her acknowledgement, while her eyes remained locked on this 'Raven.' She might have been from a nice world, but she was still a fighter. She wouldn't make amatuer mistakes here.

"Look, Mami, I'm gonna call you that to build a sense of a relationship, I understand how you feel. It's tough to make hard calls- that's why they are hard. But that creature is dangerous. I might be the Invincible Iron Man, but no one else is. We can't let it roam free."

Beside him Raven was starting to look a little tense. Mamika followed her gaze to... her oracle bell?

"I'll take responsibility here, Mr Iron Man. Please leave peacefully. We don't have to fight."

Those were the words. She'd said them so many times before. And every single time, they worked! No one had to get hurt, she'd protect Apollo, and they'd get to the village in no time. Win-win-win. Win.

Then Raven started to glow again.

Iron Man turned to his shaman. "Uh, Ray, you may not be away, but generally charging up like that is seen as a bit of a threat. Which we want to avoid."

At last Raven spoke, her voice cold and hard. "These people are in competition. They are stopping us from protecting people. We should take them all out now."

At those words, Mamika's stance tightened. She didn't want to have to do this, but sometimes, fighting was the only answer.

Iron Man stepped between them, arms spread, as if trying to keep them apart. "Hold on now, hold on! How about we all just calm down for a minute and talk things out."

Adam spoke up again. "I agree with the Iron Man. It benefits only the forces of evil when the forces of good fight with each other. There is a way we solve this."

There might just have been such a way, if they had given it a chance. But Raven didn't give chances. She shot through the air, skimming across the ground straight towards Mamika.

She ran into her spirit, then bulldozed straight through the phantom like he wasn't there, her leg forward like a spear towards Mamika's gut.

It was useless. With a wave of her staff, a pink shield blinked into existence, compeltely nullifying Raven's attack.

"Magical Splash!"

Mamika swung her scepter in a large arc, hitting Adam in the process, and forcing him inside. Several large hearts popped into the air, and flew towards Raven, ready to teach her the peaceful ways of love by force.

With impressive skills, Raven dodged each one, cutting through the air like a bird, bouncing off of trees, dropping and floating at random, while the hearts themselves detonated against wood.

In the end, she floated silently above Mamika, while around them trees slowly tumbled to the ground with snaps and groans.

A look on concentration appeared on her face, and around her half a dozen flaming blue orbs appeared, shooting at across the glade at both Mamika and Apollo.

Mamika jumped back into the air to avoid one, then turned at full speed to fly towards Apollo, practically body slamming the bear as she turned back and dropped her scepter sharply, another shield appearing before them, which the balls slammed into uselessly.

"You can't beat me with attacks like that, Raven. They're too slow. Let's stop this before someone gets hurt." Mamika's demands were simple, and her voice was heartfelt. They didn't have to keep going.

Raven snarled an articulate response, and rested a hand on the mask. "Iron Man! You're with me now- Oversoul: Iron-Jay."

The air behind Raven flickered, and Iron Man was there. "Sorry, kid. Gotta help out the team."

The spirit seemed to sink into Raven's body, despite how much bigger he was, until nothing remained.

For a moment there was stillness. Then, Raven grunted and more of those balls appeared.

Mamika frowned. "This again? It didn't work last time, and it isn't going to work now. You're just going to tire yourself out fruitlessly!"

Then Adam shouted from her scepter, "Mamika, put a shield!"

Mamika didn't ask questions, the alarm in Adam's voice more than enough to silence her protests. In an instant a shield was up, massive enough to cover even the still Apollo, and brimming with power.

It came not a moment too soon. Instead of the balls slowly, relatively, launching themselves at her, the all exploded into lasers.

Bright, powerful beams of energy outpaced lightning and slammed into her shield in quick succession, drilling through the shield with every impact.

Mamika gritted her teeth and held firm, not willing to let even a single hair on Apollo's head get singed.

Just as quickly as the storm of light arrived, it faded away, and with it Mamika dropped both the shield and to her knees, panting.

Something of that power took it out of her- she wouldn't be able to hold up against too many more of those.

She glared up at Raven, unflinchingly. "I won't let you hurt Apollo."

Then she flew to the side, waving her staff repeatedly, sending out heart after heart towards her foe, forcing the blue woman to focus on her, before she could even look at the bear.

It didn't seem to matter to Raven. Before the hearts could get close, a ball would form and then explode into a beam, piercing through the hearts and shooting into the ground to leave a smoking crater.

"How is she doing that?" Mamika asked the air. How did she suddenly make her attacks so much stronger? Had she been holding back too?

It was Adam who unexpectedly answered. "You heard her- It's an Oversoul- She is using the power of her spirit to enhance her own. I could just see it- small barrels appeared inside her balls. Fortunately, it looks like these ones aren't as maneuverable as her normal ones. We should be able to dodge among the trees."

It seemed like that was true, as Mamika flew. Despite the lasers cutting a swath through the forest, Raven couldn't aim and fire fast enough to actually hit Mamika.

Mamika herself kept up the barrage. For some reason, she just wasn't getting tired. She couldn't figure out why, but she was sure that as long as she didn't take any hits she'd be able to wear down Raven in the end.

"Here comes another one."

Mamika nodded, and angled towards the sky, letting it pass underneath her. Then there was a small flicker of black and the beam of energy curved towards her. Mamika tried her best to avoid it but there was another one of those flickers, and she couldn't pull away fast enough.

The beam blasted into her side, exploding with power, and swatting her from the sky like a bug. She slammed into the ground, carving a meters long trench, before coming to a painful stop back in that same glade.

She groaned, trying to figure out what had just happened.

Raven fell from the sky, landing lightly on her feet. Only she was different now. She was wearing the mask, the previously red and gold metal now blue and black, with glowing eyes staring dead at Mamika.

"Oversoul: Gravity Maze."

1

u/Visarak Mar 23 '19

A glowing golden orb appeared next to Raven's masked head, rapidly taking the same shape as her mask.

"This is our oversoul," Iron Man said simply. " And it's unbeatable. Raven's gravity powers are strong, but limited in variability and range. I change that. I can calculate exactly the amount of force we need, and exactly were it needs to go. By sending a bit of my armor over to work as a beacon, we can materialize intense flucations of gravity. Enough to slow you down long enough for Iron Jays to land, or bend them entirely to hit you from behind."

"Give up Mamika. You fought the good fight. But this isn't a fight you can win anymore. Don't hurt yourself for no reason. You don't have the power to stop this."

Mamika groaned, trying to sit up, trying to ignore the weakness in her arms and the blood spilling from the cuts caused by her hard landing.

She didn't have the power? This wasn't how things were supposed to go. This was never how it was supposed to go.

Iron Man had to be wrong, she just had to dig deeper. It was there, it was always there. That's how Mamika was made. Whenever she was in a pinch, and things looked grim, she'd always find some hidden burst of energy lurking inside her, enough to pull off a shocking, close, win.

But it wasn't there. She couldn't find it. She felt cold and hungry and tired, but there was no extra power waiting to come out. There was just Mamika. And the unbreakable will to save everyone.

Slowly, Mamika made her way to her feet. "I won't... I won't stop. I'll do this all day if it'll keep you from huring Apollo!"

Iron Man hung silently next to Raven for a moment.

"Take her out... but be gentle."

He faded away.

Raven grunted her acceptance. A single orb appeared before her, slowly building in strength.

Mamika shakily raised her scepter, and with a concentrated effort, formed a shield between her and Raven.

It was meaningless.

Raven fired the beam wide, and then several flickers appeared along its length until the beam curved around, and shot into the ground at Mamika's feet, the resulting explosion, firing shards of hot stone up at her and sending her flying back with a scream.

Another beam came, before she could even land, slamming into her gut and slapping her into the ground with enough force to form a wide crater.

Mamika tried to get up again, but her legs failed her. She tried to raise her staff, and could do little more than tighten her fingers around the handle.

She felt so powerless, tears of utter frustration buiding in her eyes. She couldn't do anything, not against the power of the Oversoul. She couldn't even move at this point, forced to watch as Raven slowly made her way towards Apollo.

'I need to do something... I need power. I need it!'

"Adam! Please!" was all Mamika could cry out.

And then, with the fury of a storm, and the strength of an earthquake, an endless tide that threatened to sweep away all that Mamika was, even as it built her anew, taking her to heights unknown, it came.

"I have the POWER."

And yet, even as fire burned through her veins, she knew it wouldn't be enough, not at this point. She was too weak from her injuries. She wouldn't be able to take on Raven like this.

But there was some one here that still could. Mamika raised her scepter, heart pointed at the only one that could stop Raven, and fired a bolt of pure power.

It slammed into Apollo, and Mamika couldn't help the small smile that grew on her face, one that grew in tandem with the bear.

Oversoul: Battle-Beast.

Apollo, already a massive creature, expanded, until he dwarfed his previous size. A single, lethally sharp claw on his paw out sized Mamika's head, and his body seemed large enough to brush away trees like sticks.

Ornate armor coalesced all over his body, impossibly thick, impossibly heavy, and yet when Apollo brought down his paw with a tremendous crash, he seemed utterly unslowed by it.

Apollo's gaping, man-swallowing maw opening up. And he roared.

It went beyond being sound at that point. It was a roar of pure force, one that force the trees to tremble, and made Mamika's very heart quiver in her chest, even as far away as she was.

Raven, far closer than Mamika, fell to her knees, clutching at her ears.

That proved to be a mistake.

With one mighty sweep of his paw, Apollo hit Raven straight into the dirt, which instantly shattered beneath the blow. That didn't seem to satisfy the Battle-Bear, and he brought his hand down again, and again, until the earth had been pulverized into nothing but dust.

A rumble built up in Apollo's throat, closer to the growl of of a plane about to take off. There was a dark intent in his eyes. He had been threatened, and he didn't intend to stop while it still lived.

He raised a paw again and was just about to bring it down when a scream interrupted him.

"Apollo, please stop!" It was a heartfelt plea, from Bluebell.

The bear looked to her, and then, with a voice deeper than the ocean, "Why!? She threatened me, she destroyed my home! Why should she not die?"

Bluebell, perhaps too overwhelmed by everything else, took the words in-stride. "Because if you kill her, I'll have to stop you! You won't be able to live here anymore! I don't want that to happen, Apollo. Please... spare her. Go back to your den, and forget about this."

The bear looked at her for a long moment, long enough that Bluebell almost swallowed and took a step back.

Then it simple turned, and left, shaking the earth with mighty steps and pushing aside trees like reeds. After the shaking had long faded, a flash of white shot from the darkened forest and returned to Mamika.

As it did, the power faded, and she slumped with exhaustion. She didn't have it in her at this point to even stand.

Bluebell, who'd watched Apollo go, quickly went over to her. "Rest easy now hon. You did me the greatest deed ever done in these woods, and I will return the favor. I'll get you to Mesa Verde lickity split."

Mamika nodded, then nodded her head at the crater Raven was lying unconscious in. "Make sure to treat her too."

And the, like the power, Mamika was gone.

Adam emerged from the scepter, and floated to the sky, watching over Mamika as Bluebell rushed around doing her best to administer first aid to both of her new charges.

Shortly after that, a golden ball emerged from Raven and flew up to join him, shifting to take the full shape of the Iron Man. Then, with a shimmer, that armor faded, leaving behind a well dressed man.

"Hey. Tony Stark. I don't think we were formally introduced."

"I am Prince Adam. It's nice to meet you, Tony," came Adam's genial reply.

"Yeah, best of buds and all now. Listen, I just want to apologize to you two. We're supposed to be heroes here and all, not beating up little girls."

Adam shook his head and smiled. "It's alright."

"You see Tony, I know that you're both good people at heart. Sometimes though, even when it seems hard, you have to fight against people that would normally be your friend. Everyone has to stand up for what they believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. Even if the whole world tells you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world -- 'No, YOU move.'"

Adam smiled at Tony, as the sun fell behind him, framing his head. "I'm proud to see that Mamika has learned that lesson well. And I'll be sure to help her for rest of this competition, so we can stand up for what we believe in."

Chapter 1: Ruby Rose's No Good Horrible Very Bad Day

On the night of the fifth day of the Shaman King competition, all the way in the remote woods of south-western Colorado, Ruby Rose had been pronounced dead. Deceased, no longer living, the opposite of alive. Not physically, but rather metaphorically. There she lay face down in the snow. A light blanket coating her body, yet she made no attempt to move.

“Aaaaaaaaa,” Ruby probably said. Hard to tell over the slush covering her mouth.

”Ruby, I can’t hear you,” said Lapis.

”Aaaaaaaa,” Ruby definitely thought.

The spirit residing in the shiny blue gem in her pocket vibrated angrily. She likely seemed none too pleased to be stuck in this situation.

”We’re not going to get anywhere with you laying there like that.”

”Oh yeah? Well… well we’re not going to get anywhere in this freezing cold!”

”Sucks to be you, I can’t feel anything.”

Ruby makes several exasperated motions from her position on the ground. This does little more than create a small snow angel around her.

”Can’t you like, use all the water in the snow to heat the place up? Or at least make it stop snowing?” Ruby asked.

”Probably.”

”So do it!”

”Nah.”

”Aaaaaaaaaaaa!”

Ruby jumped up, wiping her face clean. Freezing to death because she couldn’t convince a rock to save her seemed like a pathetic way to go out. She needed to move. One step at a time. Even if the snow weighed her down and the cold didn’t let her feel her toes. Even if her muscles ached and her bones creaked. Even if every fiber of her being told her to lay down and die like a dog. She refused to go out in such a desolate manner.

”Oh good. You’re finally moving again,” said Lapis.

”What’s with the attitude? You won’t even help me, you don’t even care!” said Ruby.

”I won’t help you because I can’t help you. You’re too weak to channel my power. So I get to sass you from your pocket until you figure out how.”

Another breeze slapped Ruby in the face with frost. Her hair stood up on the back of her neck. Anything for her body to cling to the small slivers of heat that remained within.

”What do you mean? Didn’t I use your power to, you know, not fall to my death?”

”Sort of. There’s a few ways to get my powers to work. You can bind me to your weapon, make it stronger. You can bind me to your body, and that will make you stronger. Or, you can let me take control of your body, and that will allow me to use my full power.”

”So… do that. You said you can fly, let me fly. I want to fly. Flying sounds cool.”

”No.”

”Why?”

”Because I also don’t want to.”

That was it, the final straw. She fell forward, onto her hands and knees. Too stupid to pack a coat with her. Too unlucky to get an uncooperative spirit who didn’t want to be friends. Too lost to navigate this pure white wasteland. Too far away from her destination. Too many days apart from her group. Too weak to continue in this competition. Too loud around her, the car engine roaring in her ears and threatening to deafen her. Too-

Car engine?

“Need a lift partner?”

Her head turns. Tears form in her eyes at the beautiful sight before her. An angel with a 1983 Toyota Hilux™. The way the chassis connected to the framework, there was no doubt about it. This vehicle surely stood among the greats as one of the greatest vehicles to grace America. The red hooded girl clung to the vehicle as if her life depended on it. Because it did.

“Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!”

“And that’s why Apollo is the kindest bear I’ve ever known.”

The Nestle™ hot chocolate worked wonders in restoring the heat in Ruby’s body. No longer did a chill run through her veins. She couldn’t help but admire the environment she found herself in. For a cabin in the middle of the woods, this place certainly seemed advanced. A heater to escape from the snow, a working kitchen and bathroom. Television! Electricity! A far cry from what she expected, but she would welcome the refuge.

“You sound like you really care about him,” said Ruby.

“Yup. Him and I go way back. Known him longer than you’ve even been born squirt,” said Bluebell.

“Wow, that’s…” Ruby stops to think. “...a really long time!”

“Yup. Now uh… you mentioned something about being a Shaman?”

“Right, I’m looking for the Patch Tribe.” Ruby took on a serious look. No more fun and games, this is serious business now. “I’m heading there on very important business.” She couldn’t let on that she was part of the Shaman King (or Queen, in her case) competition.

“Luckily for you, I know how to get there. But a few things first…”

Bluebell rummaged through her closet, deeply searching for something. After what felt like hours, she threw them in Ruby’s direction. A thick winter coat, and a pair of boots.

“Now that here lassie, is a premium Moncler Shell Down Jacket™ and a pair of Timberland™ Boots. As long as you’re wearing those essentials, the snow shouldn’t bother you anyway.”

She looked over the clothing. A thick puffy coat, all red like her attire. It certainly seemed insulated enough, ready to withstand the harsh weather. And the boots… maybe she could ditch these. It might give her street cred somewhere, but her own footwear would suffice enough on this journey. They fit her aesthetic more anyway. Still, she made sure to to thoroughly thank the kind angel for her generosity.

“Anyway…” Bluebell tapped her chin, looking over the girl in her cabin. Likely thinking about what to do next. “I can take you a ways there. Drop you off, let you avoid all this harsh weather. But first, I need to take a quick shower. You don’t mind waitin’ for little old me, do you?”

“No, not at all ma’am!” Ruby quickly saluted, watching Bluebell head into her intricate bathroom.

As she heard the shower water turn on, an intrinsic thought popped in her mind. She could peep on her in the shower, as a funny joke of course. But… no. She remembered the one time she spied on her sister (like all girls do) out of pure curiosity. Yang gave her an atomic noogie that left a permanent mark for weeks. No matter the reasoning, it wouldn’t be worth it at all.

All good things must come to an end at some point though. The peaceful nature of the cabin, not having to listen to Lapis nag her, not having to worry about her journey. That all came to an end when she heard the deafening sound of gunshots ringing outside. It could be nothing more than hunters staking claim on this land. But after her talk with Bluebell… she could only fear the worst. If someone found Apollo, the bear she cared so deeply for…

She shoved the coat onto herself and quickly ran out. The hot chocolate found itself abandoned in the cabin. And the sight she saw upon exiting the cabin only confirmed her worst fears. There she saw a ten foot tall bear locked into combat with…

A man in a T-shirt?

u/LetterSequence Mar 23 '19 edited Mar 24 '19

The man raised his weapon toward the bear, an artifact that even the hoplophile herself couldn’t identify. No matter how desperately she wished she could, or how delectable that gun of his looked… there were more pressing issues at the moment. The kind angel poured her heart out expressing love toward the bear. And as a huntress, it would be her job to save as many people as possible.

Saving them emotionally counted too, right?

Her feet didn’t even have a chance to leave imprints in the ground below her. Within an instant, she’s in the air and on her scythe, firing to propel her forwards. All for an opportune moment to do something that many people would consider ‘extremely dumb.’ The accelerated speed allows her to cross the distance between the cabin and the fight. Letting her dive right in between the two of the combatants.

The man didn’t even have a chance to react. One moment, a menacing bear towered over him. In the next, a young girl with a goofy look on her face blocked his view. He already pulled the trigger. The bullet already flew through the air. He could only look on in horror as it headed towards her, barreling into her chest and sending her backwards onto the ground.

“Oh crap oh crap. Oh. Crap!” He dropped the gun, clutching at his head. “Creed, I shot… I shot a freakin’ kid.”

“How unfortunate,” the voice behind him mused.

“I’m fine… I’m fine.” It took a moment. Ruby rubbed at the spot on her chest, frowning at the new hole in her coat. Only a few moments with it, and already she ruined it. It’s not like bullets could harm her anyway. Her aura was a natural barrier for her. As long as she had it up, no bodily damage would befall her. It’s why she found herself so confident in her ability to win the competition.

When she stood back on her own two feet and looked at her surroundings, she realized how horrible this plan wound up being. An angry bear, a confused man. A cool gun. Man, that gun really is cool. Such an intricate design. The casing made it appear like a sword, but the blades clearly separated to fire high impact bullets. An effective use of melee and long range all in one.

A pregnant pause from the three way showdown filled the air. No party wanted to make a sound, worried for what would happen next. Except for the man clearly ill-fitted to stand in this tundra. He certainly had plenty to say.

“Hey, kid!” He said. “What the hell do you think you’re doing out here?”

“Nice gun,” Ruby said. “Where’d you get it? How fast does it fire? What’s the ammunition? Who designed it? What does-”

“Kid, I’m the adult. I’m asking the questions here. Now, tell me your name and explain why you’re in the middle of freakin’ nowhere?” The man kept his gun trained on the bear, the two of them locked in an intricate staring contest of epic proportions.

“Ruby Rose, future huntress. At your service, Mr…”

“Cade Yeager. Now look, unless you want to get mauled by a…” As he looked her over, his eyes widened immensely. “Is that a scythe?”

“Yup. It’s my weapon.”

“Kid, you barely look older than my daughter. You’re going to poke your eye out with that thing. Why don’t you head on home, let someone who isn’t a child handle this?”

Ruby rolled her eyes, training her scythe’s nozzle at him. Only one person got to call her ‘kid,’ and this stranger certainly didn’t live up to him.

“Look,” she said. “I’m only here to stop you from fighting this bear. It’s important to someone important to me. Why are you even fighting him in the first place?”

“Well…”

“Allow me.” Ruby couldn’t tell where this new voice came from at first. To her, it seemingly appeared out of nowhere. A whisper of the voice. But a mysterious rose clipped to the stranger’s chest glowed with an otherworldly energy.

Royal. That’s the only word anyone could use to describe the faint image of the man that appeared before Cade. From the way his hair seemed perfectly parted to the extravagant clothing he wore. The way the faint shimmers of half formed snowflakes seemed to make his skin glisten. Her heart seemed to skip a beat the second she witnessed his full visage.

“My associate here made a grave error,” the ghost spoke. “You see, the bear attacked the two of us due to our wandering too close to its territory. In his infinite wisdom, he offered the bear… a drink.”

“A drink?” Ruby barely had time to process what the man was saying. Too in awe at the sight of him. Too on guard from the bad feeling creeping up inside her.

“Yeah,” Cade said. “Bud Light™, the greatest drink known to man!”

“Honestly,” the ghost sighed. “Offering alcohol to an animal. I knew I had been assigned to a lowly commoner, but this takes the cake for the most unfortunate business arrangement I have found myself in.”

“Shut it, Creed. The bear can wait. We need to get this kid back to her parents, stat.”

“Now now, Cade,” said Creed. “I want to question the girl first.”

The bear growled and assumed a defensive position. No one seemed very focused on it anymore. They wouldn’t notice as it backed away slowly, merely observing the interaction.

“You want to… question me?”

”Ruby,” finally spoke Lapis. ”I have a bad feeling about this man. Leave the bear alone and run away now. This isn’t worth it.”

But Ruby ignored her spirit. She didn’t care about her, so why should the care extend the other way around?

“Tell me, young Ruby. What do you think of society?” Creed paced, or floated really, around the man he seemed linked to. “About the way the government is run, about how people are treated?”

“Uh…” Ruby backed away a step, keeping her gun trained on the two of them. “I don’t really follow politics? I guess things could always be better?”

“A paltry answer, one that I should expect from a child. Let me tell you what I see.” Creed cleared his throat. Cade rolled his eyes, already knowing he couldn’t stop the monologue that would unfold.

“This world is imperfect. The ones on the top don’t care about the ones on the bottom. They don’t care who gets crushed under their boot during their conquest for power. We are as ants to them. Annoying bugs on the side of the road. Money banks, stepping stools, trash not worth examining. But I intend to fix that. I will crush the government that rules over us. I will destroy those on top, and help those at the bottom rise up. I will fix this power imbalance that plagues our planet, taking my position among those who intend to abuse us. Reforming the world. Wiping away all of its impurities. And I will make it as beautiful as me.”

“...what?” Ruby blinked a few times, trying to process any of that. “Why are you telling me this?”

“Because child…” Creed pointed at Ruby, finger aimed right at her arm. “I see your wrist. The bell adorned around it. You are a Shaman. This means you are an enemy.”

“Told you,” said Lapis. Ruby immediately pulled the gem out of her pocket and held it close. A battle likely seemed imminent. She needed to take every precaution.

“...Did that rock just talk?” Cade asked.

“You see Ruby, there is nothing in the rules of this competition that say we have to fight. Nothing saying we can’t unify forces. So I will make you a singular offer. Join me and my conquest for world domination. You will follow my every order, and in exchange, you may reap in the benefits that my immense power will sow.”

“No,” Ruby immediately answered. “You’re weird. I don’t like you.”

“You look like a jerk too,” said Lapis.

“...A teenager, a talking gem, and a pompous asshole. Man, I really found myself surrounded by a funky bunch, didn’t I?” Cade said to himself.

“What a pathetic answer, one befitting of a mere child who will no doubt grow up to be an absolute failure. Fine, allow me to make you regret your choice.”

When Creed disappeared and Cade collapsed on the ground, screaming out in pain, Ruby realized she may have made a mistake.

The screams filling the air only seemed to agitate the bear. As if that were her biggest worry right now. The man who attempted to be kind and fatherly moments ago was now writhing on the floor. His psyche seemed broken, his mind blank, yet his body continued to suffer.

Until.

He rose.

Ruby took an awkward step back, not knowing what to expect. But when she realized what happened, anger filled her body instead of fear.

“This body is not quite to my standards,” Cade said. Or rather, Creed said. His voice came out of Cade’s mouth, as if this were his true form from the beginning. “But it will make due. He wouldn’t willingly hurt a child after all.”

“You say you want to reform the world, yet you’ll kill me because I disagree with you? What kind of leader does that make you?” said Ruby.

“One who does what needs to be done to bring about a new world order. One who isn’t intimidated by morals or ‘what is right’ to truly change things. One who isn’t afraid of being the villain.”

Cade raised his gun, firing indiscriminately at Ruby. Each shot didn’t come with an inherent ‘warning.’ He wanted to kill, and that seemed obvious. But Ruby was no slouch when it came to combat. Especially when it came to bullets.

Her aura could easily withstand the shots, but this seemed as good a time as any to observe the weapon in action. Every time Cade pulled the trigger, one bullet came out. Semi-automatic. No sustained fire would be coming her way. With skilled calculation, as the bullets cut through the air and broke the sound barrier, Ruby predicted where they would land. Then, she simply made sure she didn’t stand in those spots. Ducking and weaving, Cade’s shots never met their target.

A shot of her rifle here. A quick burst of her semblance there. The bullets went nowhere near her. And in exchange, she only made her way closer and closer to her target.

“Apollo!”

The bear seemed confused. As confused as a bear could be really. But that confusion seemed like nothing compared to the confusion that came with the next confusing act that the confusing girl performed confusingly. She jumped on the bear’s back.

“Onward, my trusty noble steed!”

The bear made no attempt to move.

“I said, onwaaaaaaaaard!” Ruby fired her gun in the air, startling the bear into action. It charged forward right into her target. Cade. It went without mention that Cade lifted his gun up, trying to shoot down the bear in front of him. All according to plan.

Her scythe aims forward, firing before Cade can even pull the trigger. She wouldn’t haphazardly steal a man’s life from him though, even if it were the easy solution. She’s no villain. Instead, the bullet aims right for the gun in his hands. Metal hits metal, a loud clang filling the air as it falls to the floor. Too much pressure, not even he could hold it after that.

With Cade unarmed, Ruby jumped off the bear. Using one last shot in her scythe to propel her forward, the culmination of her quick planning came to fruition. Cade found himself greeted with two dirty snow boots square in his jaw.

The force of the dropkick sent him a few feet backwards. His body tumbled in the snow like a ragdoll, unaccustomed to the sensation of such a rough hit. Ruby cheered triumphantly at her success. Though it found itself short lived.

“Put me in your weapon now, Ruby,” said Lapis.

“What? But he’s knocked out. The battle’s over.”

“If you don’t want to die, do it now.”

Ruby groaned, but her better instincts told her to listen to her spirit. Advice she wouldn’t regret. As her scythe morphed shape and turned blue once more, Cade found himself rising to his feet. A quick spit of blood showed that he seemed no worse for wear.

“Impressive. To think a mere petulant child could besmirch my face in such a manner,” said Creed. “No matter. Primitive firearms only hold me back. I prefer to use more intimate weapons.”

A robotic creature seemed to crawl under Cade’s shirt and along his arm, until it formed in his hand. It seemed to… Transform™ into a new weapon. A long sword, much more threatening than the last sword/gun hybrid. And then… it disappeared. Right before her eyes, the weapon was no more.

Cade lurched forward at an incredible speed. One that Ruby wouldn’t expect from what appeared to be an ordinary Texas man. His speed might even surpass her own. Is this the true power of a spirit?

Lapis, currently in control of Ruby’s scythe, paid much more attention to the timing of his attack than the lowly Shaman stuck in awe. Cade reeled back, threatening to decapitate her with a mere swing. But the gem proved to be faster. Sucking up all the snow in the area into the weapon, Lapis fired it all back out at once. One massive frozen fist erupted out of the gun’s chamber.

Cade found himself launched in the air, hurdling over the horizon where Ruby couldn’t even see him anymore.

“Did we… did we get him?”

“I doubt it,” said Lapis.

“What happened to him?”

“Remember what I mentioned? His spirit likely forcibly took over his body, leading to the mess we’re in now.”

“Then do that to me! Stop beating around the bush, stop making this more difficult!” Ruby seemed clearly irate. Tired of being bullied by a rock at the very least.

“No.”

“No? No? We’re going to die here because you’re too darn stubborn! All I’m asking is for you to fuse with me, so we can both get stronger and survive.”

“Fusion? Fusion!? I vowed to never fuse again and you think I’ll break that so a girl I knew for less than a week can go off and get herself killed later anyway?”

“...what?”

“Let me tell you something.” Lapis’s voice came out furiously, every word laced with venom. A verbal smackdown that Ruby could only sit there and endure.

“Do you have any idea what I’ve gone through? My people went through a war. A senseless war that caused millions of deaths. A war that turned me into a gem, and got me trapped in a mirror for a thousand years. I had no one to talk to. Trapped in my own mind for all those years. I hated that war. It took everything from me. All that senseless fighting. For what? It doesn’t even matter in the end.”

“Things got better. I made friends. A boy named Steven. I became a Crystal Gem. I became someone that mattered. The pain never subsided, it always crept into my day to day life. But I could be happy.”

“And now look at me. I’m trapped in a gem again. I might be dead, doomed to never see my friends. Trapped in here for the rest of eternity. Plus? I’m drafted into another war. A senseless battle between people over a petty prize that won’t even matter years after this competition is over. I’m being forced to hurt people. I’m being turned into the monster I sought to avoid becoming. Yet, you have the audacity to ask ME for help? To ask ME to fight for you?”

“I don’t want to be here Ruby. I want to go home. That’s why I’m going to do nothing more than help you defend yourself. I’ll never lend you my powers, because if I do, I’ll be willingly accepting myself as a soldier.”

Ruby remained silent. All the past bickering recontextualized. She wanted to say something. Wanted to argue her side, wanted to offer words of kindness. But those words wouldn’t come. There was nothing she could say to heal pain that large. She couldn’t even help herself deal with her pain. How could she help someone else?

“...let’s head back inside the cabin,” said Ruby. It’s all she could say.

Any thoughts of possibly ending this fight now were quickly squashed. After all, the fact that a dozen trees found themselves uprooted high in the sky were a clear indicator that Creed had no intentions of letting matters finish this way.

“So much for an easy victory,” said Lapis.

The forestry ended up cut down to size. A clear path from Creed’s impact zone to the original battlefield had been carved, showing the monstrous strength at his disposal. Bare minimum, one acre no longer existed in this place.

Ruby didn’t hesitate firing off bullets in his direction. With Lapis in her scythe, those bullets turned into icicles, long frozen spears of death hurdled his way. Spears that were vanquished before they even had a chance of reaching him.

“H-how is he doing all of that? He doesn’t have anything in his arms?” said Ruby.

“His weapon is invisible,” said Lapis.

“If his weapon is invisible, how are we supposed to know when he’ll hit us?”

“I’ll… I’ll make it easier for you. But don’t expect this often.”

Ruby aimed her gun once more. Rather than an icicle coming out of the nozzle, a more interesting projectile flew out. A chain. Composed entirely of water, Creed easily cut through it. But water is water. You can cut through it, but how much of an effect will that truly have? The water froze around his sword, trapping him in place and letting Ruby see the weapon.

Excited to bring this match to a close, Ruby yanked on the chain to disarm him. Creed proved difficult. He clung onto the sword, deciding that being pulled toward her was preferable to losing his weapon. She lets go of the water chain, spinning in the air like a corkscrew. Blade aimed outwards, she’d cut him up and end this fight. Slash after slash cut up his arms, her direction changed suddenly in midair. An unexpected move, sure to end the fight.

With one last swing, she sliced through his back hard enough to tear the muscle fibers apart.

Except she didn’t.

Despite the off guard attack, her blade found itself blocked by Creed’s at the last second. His sword parallel with his spine.

“You… you let me hit you? So you could block the final hit?” Ruby said. An expression of disbelief plastered on her face.

“How boorish of you. I would never expect a child to fight without honor. Though, if that is how we’ll play this game of ours, allow me to even the score.”

Ruby raised her scythe to block an oncoming hit. One that never arrived. She closed her eyes, ready to take the brunt of the pain. Those eyes shot open when she heard the animalistic roar of a creature in pain.

Apollo, the bear she vowed to protect. Creed’s sword plunged right in its chest. Blood pouring from the wound. Red snow. Red blade. Red vision. Red everything.

She couldn’t think straight. Couldn’t comprehend her failure. Couldn’t stop herself from acting. Couldn’t stop herself from activating her semblance, rushing Creed. Couldn’t stop the blade from reaching her. Couldn’t get out of the way in time. Couldn’t do anything except block with her left arm. Couldn’t do anything except focus her aura there. Couldn’t help but scream in pain as her aura dissipated and the blade didn’t stop. Couldn’t stop physics from launching her across the battlefield, her back slamming into a tree. Couldn’t feel her arm anymore.

“Lapis…” she weakly whimpers.

Is this how it ended? Perishing in the middle of the wilderness in a competition she joined for fun? Cut to pieces for animals to feed on? No more RWBY. No more Weiss nagging her about her personality. No more Blake to console over her issues. No more Yang to... to... she didn't even know anymore. As her body heat lowered and the snow overtook her, thinking stopped coming naturally.

Lapis remained silent. She had no more petty remarks at this point. A shame. Ruby figured she would die here. She’d give anything to have someone talking to her in her final moments. Even if those words were nasty ones.

“Oh, now I enjoy that look. The look of sheer desperation on your face. Those dying expressions are always my favorite,” said Creed.

Alright, maybe kind words would be preferable.

“Ruby…” Lapis said. She waits, unsure of what to say. Creed takes another step forward. Drawing out the battle, savoring the expressions on Ruby as she lay there dying. “Aim me at him.”

Ruby barely had any strength left in her. But if all she had to do is point a gun… that’s easy enough for her final act. For old times sake, she pulls the trigger one last time at Creed.

The faster a projectile, the more damage the impact will deal. Water in particular proves itself to be a wonderful projectile on occasion. For example, if you fired a water gun at Mach 3, around 2,500 feet per second, you’d find yourself with a water jet cutter. At those speeds, even solid metal could be cut through. Something as spongy as a human body would surely succumb to that as well.

Creed casually blocks the water, not expecting much from it. But that wasn’t the goal. Lapis wasn’t trying to shoot through his blade. No. All it took was a slight shift to the left, and the water cutter would reach its target. Tricking him into blocking his body, so he wouldn't pay attention to his Achilles's Heel. The rose pinned to Cade’s shirt.

Flowers are very delicate. They don’t last long under pressure. At such massive speeds, it finds itself easily destroyed when her water pierces the flesh and muscle behind it. Petals flutter through the wind. One such petal finds itself on Ruby’s hand. A red rose. Creed’s medium gone. His spirit removed from this world.

Cade falls forward, collapsing on himself. The immense toll a spirit takes on someone makes them weaker. Especially when the two of them are incompatible.

“Get up,” said Lapis. “You’re not dying here.”

“...why?” asked Ruby.

“Because if you’re dead, I don’t have a chance of getting my old life back. If we have to work together… we’ll work together. That’s all I can promise.”

Ruby weakly smiles. She wants to be peppy, wants to give a cool team speech. But she can’t. Her body could barely support itself. Leaning on the scythe and using it as a cane, she stands up and staggers over to Cade’s unconscious body.

“Drink this.” A bottle of Bud Lite™ hovers ominously in front of her.

“...beer?”

“You’re going to die if you don’t dull the pain somehow.”

Ruby groans. She had a sip of Uncle Qrow’s flask once. Tasted horrible. And now she had to have more…

Lapis unscrews the bottle for her, hovering the liquid ominously in front of her. If she took only one sip, how bad could it be?

Extremely.

Ruby nearly gags at the first swallow. Raw, unnatural. The worst thing she ever tasted in her life. Sewer water would be preferable to this. Unless this actually is sewer water, which it might be. And the after taste, the drink got worse even when you weren’t having it. The bottom of a garbage bag is the only thing that could compare.

With tears in her eyes, she drinks more. Every drop offered to her. If she had to choose between drinking Bud Light™ again, or getting her arm broken again, she’d choose the second in a heartbeat. But Lapis is smart. She knows what she’s doing. And she’s right.

As the alcohol kicks in, her senses dull. The shooting pain in her arm goes away ever so slightly. It’s hard to see in front of her, but that’s what her spirit is for. To guide her.

“Head back to the cabin,” said Lapis.

“No.”

“...what? You’ll die without getting first aid.”

“I’m not… I’m not strong enough to face her.”

Ruby Rose failed to save someone once again. A failed guardian. A failed protector. If the woman who saved her is an angel, then what does that make Ruby? The person who failed them? The person who stole her happiness away from that angel? A demon.

She’d find her own way through this forest. Even with one arm, even intoxicated. Even if she had to do it alone. She’d hobble through the woods, scythe cane to keep her standing. She wouldn’t die here. She refused to die.

And… she wouldn’t truly be alone, would she?

Lapis would be there with her.

Team Inadequate Vaginas!

Shaman: Demona

Demona was once part of a clan of Gargoyles that lived together with a bunch of humans inside a medieval castle. The humans protected the Gargoyles during the day and the Gargoyles returned the favor at night. It all worked moderately well until racial tensions caused Demona to betray the humans, which ended up killing almost every Gargoyle and trapping the rest in stone. Demona survived and swore vengeance on all humanity.

Spirit: Hela

Hela is the firstborn child of Odin, ruler of Asgard, and is the Asgardian Goddess of Death. While she fought at Odin's side during the conquest of the Nine Realms, when the fighting was finished Odin sealed her away in Hel, fearing her power and ambition. She remained sealed until Odin's death, at which point she escaped, defeated Thor, and promptly murdered her way right back into Asgard, eager to begin her conquests once again.

Round 1C-Part 1 An un-bear-able first round!

"So mind telling me why y'all are out here this late?" Bluebell asked the two girls. Demona stayed silent simply eyeing her down. This whole day had just served to piss her off, first she falls out of an airplane, second she's stuck in a cold dark forest, and third her partner just forced her to comply and work with a... human. At this point in the night she was not having any of this as she opened her mouth to begin a tirade at this girl, but was luckily cut off by her spirit, Hela.

"We just need to find Mesa Verde," Hela spoke calmly staring at Demona as the gargoyle began to slink back down into her seat.

"Mesa Verde?" Bluebell repeated, "Oh yeah I can get ya there as close as I can, you'll still need to do some walking though." An awkward silence fell as Demona began to ponder her whole situation.

"Who the hell does this Bluebell think she is huh?" Demona thought to herself as she stared daggers into her chauffeur, "This whole thing had better be worth it,"

"Don't worry Demona," Demona's concentration was suddenly rocked as she felt and heard Hela's presence inside her own head, "Armstrong promised us a prize should we win, and with that we will enact our supremacy"

"I like the sound of that," Demona almost began to snicker at the idea of her supremacy when she was brought back into reality by a sudden radio call.

"Bluebell are you there?" The voiced called through the ham radio.

"Yeah what's up?" She replied

"It's Apollo he's attacking some hunters one dressed in green, the other is incessantly edgy"

"Dammit looks like we're making a pit stop," Bluebell told the other two girls as she ran her truck off the path.

Demona had just about had it once they reached Apollo, a massive bear standing on the edge of a cliff over two "hunters".

The gargoyle almost leaped out to attack the human and bear, but was stopped when Hela grabbed her shoulder.

"Look," Hela whispered pointing at the bell on their now enemies shoulders. Demona and Hela looked at each other and gave a mutual nod as they sneaked out of their truck preparing for an attack.

Part 2 will be up soonish

Round 1C- Part 2

Standing just in front of the truck they had arrived in stood three figures a tall green Italian, an emo kid, and finally towering over both of them was a bear. Demona and Hela watched closely as they tried to observe what their new found foes were capable of.

"Look you two," Bluebell whispered crouching down onto the moist ground, "If you can handle the hunters I can help Apollo," Suddenly the bears body flew over the three girls and crashed into the ground. Behind them they could hear a laugh erupting from the other team.

"AHAHA That was fun!" Accelerator yelled out almost slurring his words as he looked down to Luigi who was cowering behind him, "Come on we have more killing to do," Accelerator began towards the truck in search of the bear he just threw as Luigi clung to his shirt slowly walking behind him. Demona and Hela realized they needed to think of something quick as Accelerator slowly inched ever closer.

Hela looked her partner dead in the eyes and began to "speak", "You kill the shaman I'll defeat the spirit,"

Demona's eyes widened at the chance to kill another pathetic human and she began to sneak around the side of the truck as she readied her rifle. Likewise Hela prepared her own weapons and prepared her strike.

Only a few seconds had passed when Demona got to the other end of the truck but it felt like an eternity. She carefully looked around the corner to catch a glimpse of her enemies when the truck was thrown into the air. "THERE YOU ARE!" Shouted the white haired teen as he ran towards Hela.

Demona on the other hand could have cared less, she had a mission and that mission was to destroy this little green human. She whipped out her rifle and aimed, ZAP, a red laser shot towards Luigi impacting square in his chest. A pained yell escaped his mouth as was thrown towards the edge of the cliff. The gargoyle walked at a steady pace towards him, "I almost expected a fight, but once more you've shown that humans are far bel--" She was cut off by a fire ball being thrown towards her feet. She just barely managed to dodge as she noticed the once green plumber, now a mix of red and white, was now close to her wildly flailing his arms in her face, very few actually managed to hit her, but the ones that did caught her off guard with his strength. The last few especially stung as they made contact with her nose, blood beginning to slowly seep out.

The taste of iron now slowly seeping into Demona's mouth she was suddenly enraged, the gall and audacity of this human to fight back to make her bleed just didn't sit right with her. She batted away his hands and threw strikes of her own towards his face. Her claws raked his eyes as the plumber was being pushed back closer and closer to the cliff face eventually being right on the ledge. Demona took this opportunity and kicked the man square in the chest knocking him off the cliff side.

With a satisfied chuckled Demona began to walk back towards her partner when she noticed a certain green plumber flying back up now with a snazzy cape. Enraged Demona ran towards him and spread her wings preparing for an aerial fist fight. Luigi seeing this began to panic, "Oh no oh no," he muttered as he began to search for a certain star that could help turn the battle in his favor, he had only just managed to bring it out when Demona's fist made contact with his face... and nothing Demona bounced off of him as if nothing had happened. As the two began to slowly fall Luigi floated over to his adversary and kicked towards her, his foot slapped across her face as blood was thrown from her mouth.

Luigi almost began to believe the fight was once again in his favor until he noticed that he was flashing again, his star time was running out and likewise his foe had noticed this. Demona kept her distance as Luigi's invulnerability ran out and took the chance to pounce. She extended her wings once more and darted through the air towards her adversary claws tearing into his flesh once more as his once snazzy cape disappeared and he began to plummet.

"WAAAAAaaaaa," was all that could be heard as Demona grapped the side of the cliff and went back to help her Asgardian partner.

Round 1C- Part 3

Hela was caught off guard by the truck flying through the air just narrowly missing the bear, who actually seemed to be doing alright now that Bluebell was with him. The Asgardian looked toward her adversary. He didn't seem to be much just some skinny emo kid. This would be easy, is what she thought.

She began to throw blades in his direction, however none of them seemed to hit him instead crumpling in the air in front of him. Accelerator stood there simply staring at the woman and laughing, "I can't wait to fucking kill you," escaped this edgy fucks lips as he punched the ground in front of him. Hela was thrown into the air as was everything around her. The trees in the surrounding brush were uprooted as they seemingly made a beeline towards the woman. Hela however, quickly regained her composure and shot just enough blades to tear through the wood and protect her.

She created one more blade and rushed towards her foe planning to cut him down. Her plan however was dashed immediately as Accelerator charged into the air and threw his fist into her shoulder. An audible pop came from her arm as she realized her arm had just been dislocated. Hela was getting worried this kid wasn't as much of a push over as she had anticipated and now she was having to fight without an arm, she had to come up with a plan fast.

Both of the combatants landed on the now almost completely destroyed ground as Accelerator once again began to laugh and gloat about his power, "Just give up," He screamed, "It's no use!"

Taking the chance of his gloating Hela began to generate massive almost building sized blades and threw them in his direction. Hela hoped this would somehow over power him but they seemingly just kept crumpling in his direction. Accelerator once more began to punch into the ground knocking Hela to the ground. Everything seemed to stop for Hela, she was in almost mind numbing pain at this point and all she could hear was the constant gloating and laughing from this kid. She didn't even have time to accept her fate as she was kicked in the stomach by him, a mixture of blood and vomit spewing from her mouth.

"Now watch this," Accelerator began to try and compress in air in an attempt to, for only the second time, create an absolutely horrifying tsunami of plasma into his foe. He let his defenses down and began to try and create this attack, "NOW IT'S YOUR TIME TO--" Accelerator was cut off by a red laser slamming into his back. Hela looked up to see Demona standing there rifle in hand.

"Tsk fucking humans," Demona said as she made her way over to the two. Without warning Accelerator stood back up to try and attack his assailant. His body turned in preparation to attack when he felt a sharp pain in his chest. The boy slowly looked down to see a knife poking out the front of his chest. Blood splattered onto Demona dirtying up her already bloodied face even more.

Accelerator coughed as the blade rose up and up his chest cracking bone and tearing apart tendon and muscle as it crawled its way up closer and closer to his face. The boy was being lifted into the air at this point and then blade struggled to make it past his jaw bone, however with one last push from Hela it was thrown up into the air as Accelerators now maimed and lifeless body fell to the ground.

Demona walked over and forcefully brought her partner up to her feet, "I knew you wouldn't be handle it," She spat out towards her injured friend, "You're gonna have to pull your own weight" Hela was almost through at this point, she sighed and popped her arm back into place as the two girls walked back to the scared duo of a bear and a country girl.

Team Unreasonably Attractive Waifus

|- Image -|- (♪) -|

Morrigan Aensland  (Darkstalkers / Composite)

|- Image -|- (♪) -|- Submission -|- Feats -|

Born in Scotland in the year 1678, Morrigan was adopted by the demonic noble house of Aensland, and raised by the demon Belial as his heir and daughter due her immense amount of power - potentially too much of it. Concerned by a vision of the future in which Morrigan's power grew greater than she could control, making her a danger to herself and the entire world, Belial sealed a portion of the infant Morrigan's power away, restricting her strength until he deemed her ready. This portion would later gain a life of it's own as Morrigan's 'sister', Lilith.

Morrigan was raised as a princess, and with the other two of the three Great Noble Houses of Makai out of the way she was poised to become the leader of the entirety of the demon world... buuut, at the end of the day, Morrigan doesn't really care for politics. She found castle life stifling, preferring to sneak out into the human world in search of entertainment, which mostly meant flirting, fighting or both. After the death of her father and facing a few major threats - Pyron, Jedah, and her best frenemy Demitri Maximoff, whom she will likely never stop messing with - she's come to accept her role as leader a little more, but deep down she's still just on the lookout for a little fun.

Genos  (One Punch Man / Composite)

|- Image -|- (♪) -|- Submission -|- Feats -|

Genos is a 19 year old cyborg, and the disciple of Saitama. He lost his family and his town when he was 15, and wishes to become stronger so he can hunt the cyborg that is responsible.

He is heroic but somewhat naive. His aggressive, fearless fighting style earned him the title "Demon Cyborg" from the hero association.

  Round 1C Pt. 1
  Unreasonably Attractive Shotas

Morrigan analyzed the situation as she landed lightly on the ground. The shaman was male, young, and running away.

Running away?

"Ah! A bear!" yelled her rival as his pounding feet took him deeper into the forest.

"Well, that was easy," said Morrigan as she casually dusted off her hands.

  Round 1C Pt. 2
  Unreasonably Attractive Shotas Bear

Morrigan heard a yell from her right.

"Somethings wrong. Apollo has gone out of control!" wailed Bluebell.

The bear batted Bluebell aside, then lumbered towards Morrigan, a huge ball of muscle on legs as thick as the trunks of the trees around them.

Oh well, Morrigan supposed she'd have to deal with this now. At least she'd get to test out more of Genos' capabilities.

As the huge bear lunged at her, she planted her feet and thrust her arms forward, pushing them against its furry chest. The ground beneath her feet cracked and split in response to the titanic collision, but Morrigan held fast.

"Genos?"

He had been unusually silent since there last battle. He hadn't been particularly talkative before, but he'd at least been willing to converse with her.

After a brief pause, she head Genos respond.

"Mistress, would you like me to analyze this opponent?"

"No need," Morrigan smirked, "it's just a bear. There's not much fun to be had here. Just show me more of what you can do."

"Mistress... I... the last time I lent you my power it seemed to me like you may have killed a human being."

"That woman who created the illusion. So?"

"If you can't see the problem, I can't lend you my power."

"But Genos, she enjoyed what I did to her. Besides, it wasn't even your power."

"Nevertheless, Master would be displeased with my aiding a villain. Did you kill that woman?"

Morrigan had never grunted in her life, that was a sound to be elicited from others, but she made a small sound of frustration as the bear reared back and fell upon her once again. This bear was supernaturally strong. She had no doubt she could best the beast herself, but that would take time she didn't want to waste.

"Genos, I'll give you an answer once this foe has been dealt with. It's just a bear, after all; I assume that you have to qualms with killing it."

Genos did not reply, but after several minutes Morrigan could feel his acquiescence.

With a flick of her wrist she conjured Genos' arms around her own. When the bear lunged back again, Morrigan thrust her arms out to either side, one palm facing upwards, the other downwards. With a burst of power, she spun to the side of the bear's next lunge, planting her feet in the ground to stabilise herself.

As the bear blinked in surprise, Morrigan brought her hands together and thrust them forwards.

"Hadoken!"

A beam of energy was unleashed from her hands, burning a trough through the ground and toppling several trees. What was left of the bear collapsed; a smoking corpse.

"Mistress," she heard Genos say, "you don't know that move."

Morrigan shrugged.

"I learned it from a video game. Next time, try to make more of a fireball effect."

Though she couldn't see him, Morrigan could feel the flat look Genos would have given her.

Curious, Morrigan called up Genos's visor, the pair of them taking a moment to overlook Apollo's remains for any sign of what had driven him to such ferocity. Seeing something, Morrigan crouched down to investigate.

"Apollo!" cried a distressed voice.

"What did you do to—"

Before Bluebell could react, Morrigan twirled. She grabbed the human by the waist, pulling her close.

"I'm... sorry. About your friend. If it's any consolation, he was already fatally wounded when we arrived." Morrigan motioned to a deep gash in the bear's right shoulder. "That kid must have done something to him before he fled."

Bluebell started into Morrigan's eyes for several seconds, before the tension seemed to drain out of her.

"I knew it was only a matter of time. He was always getting into trouble, but..."

Morrigan released the girl, letting her take a step back.

"I... I'm sorry 'bout your gettin' attacked. I won't thank you for what you did, but... I'll take you where you want to do."

Bluebell started stotting back to her truck, then paused to turn. She seemed to want to say more, but shook her head and resumed her walk.

With a sigh, for she was starting to get used to their power, Morrigan dispersed her spirit-arms. She turned to the side, glancing at a consternated Genos, seemingly deep in thought. He held an elbow in one hand, resting his face upon the other. The way he was pouting would do little to assuage the beliefs of his fans who thought he'd have been better in a career as a model.

"I promised you an answer, Genos, and since you've been such a good boy, you'll get one."

Genos eyes seemed to focus, and he turned to her.

"I killed the illusionist."

Genos eyes widened slightly, before returning to their normal impassivity.

"Then I can no longer help you. Please allow me to return to my Master."

Morrigan dismissed the suggestion. She had grown used to having Genos around. His power was a boon, and he was a delight to tease.

"She was our enemy. Trust me, Genos, nothing to worry about."

"We had bested her."

"We needed information."

"Irrelevant. Besides which, she may have been willing to impart that knowledge. As a member of the Hero Association, I can no longer continue to help you."

Morrigan felt a spike of anger. She'd known Genos could be a stickler for rules, but she'd thought a little coaxing would get him past this. Hmph.

Morrigan walked over to the charred carcass of the bear, and delivered a mighty kick to its ribcage, rolling it over. She could feel Blueball glaring at her from the truck, but ignored it.

"Bear. Apollo. I need a new spirit."

"Mi—Mistress?"

"This one is broken."

Morrigan felt Genos fade away from her consciousness, slinking back to whatever astral dimension or niche within her mind he inhabited when she had no need of him.

When no mystical ursine manifested, Morrigan floated back with a huff. But, of course, she didn't need a bear spirit. She didn't need any spirit. She was Morrigan Aensland, and she was more than capable of winning the Shaman Fight herself. So long as she had Genos, she was technically a shaman. That would have to do.

Although Morrigan had long since escaped gravity's shackles, she felt a little heavier just then. Landing, she trekked back to Bluebell's truck, ready to start the next leg of her journey. Her journey, not theirs.

Inexplicably, Morrigan found her thoughts drifting back to what it was like before. Back when "Morrigan" and "Lilith" were two separate entities. Being without a part of herself, things had been muted; dull.

Morrigan sighed. This feeling was no fun at all.

Genjuro Kazanari

2

u/GuyOfEvil Mar 22 '19

Since landing in the desert, Okita and Genjuro had been travelling almost without incident. About an hour after their landing, they had found a woman who guessed that Okita was a Shaman and was willing to take them... somewhere. Neither of them had any idea what they were actually supposed to be doing, but the woman seemed like she knew, so they just went along with it.

It was a long, uneventful ride through the desert. Genjuro intended to strike up conversation with Okita a few times, but he looked preoccupied by something, so he held off.

Eventually, the woman dropped them off at a National Park. The woman led them to another person at the park. She told them to come with her, and got into a pickup truck, and started another drive.

About an hour into that drive, Okita finally spoke.

"I wrote a plot synopsis of Gamera in spanish. Do you want to hear it."

Genjuro looked at the boy, puzzled, "Uh... sure"

Genjuro nodded thoughtfully, "I see."

"I also wrote a Philosophy paper," Okita said.

"Are you gonna make me hear that too?" Genjuro asked.

"Yea."

As Okita began reading, Genjuro could've sworn he heard am elf- like boy and some girl being mauled to death by a ten foot tall bear, but he ignored it, he couldn't really make out what it was over Okita anyways.

Witness the team prompting such passionate reactions as "This was the name of my Season 9 team you fuckin thief"! It's:

Aerial Supremacy

Raven (Gravity Rush)

Submission Post

Bio: Raven would do anything to save the displaced orphans at the edge of the world. Unfortunately, a misunderstanding put her at odds with fellow gravity shifter Kat. Raven's basically this game's Vergil, messing Kat's shit up until they make up and fight the bigger bads. Except she and Kat become friends, just palling around and eating junk food when they aren't kicking the shit out of shadowy monsters or two bit thugs.

Abilities: Her gravity shifting allows her to manipulate it in all sorts of nifty ways, truly rushing the fuck out of gravity. She can fall with style, lift/throw anything not bolted down (and some stuff that is) via stasis, and shoot energy balls (because gravity?). Also has a bird friend she can fuse with to boost her physicals and look rad.

Iron Man (Marvel Comics)

Submission Post

Bio: Y'all know Tony Stark to some degree. Billionaire playboy, philanthropist, and of course Iron Man: The Armored Avenger. Originally an arms manufacturer for fun and profit, he was abducted by terrorists after he was literally hoisted by his own petard. Instead of being put to work making weapons, he built a kickass suit of armor to save his life, and learned that with great power comes great responsibility. Wait a minute...

Abilities: His best suit yet, (As far as I know) Model 51 features the ability to rearrange its form to nearly any degree, from a Hulkbuster to a slick tuxedo. It has the usual host of repulsor blasts and missiles, plus stealth tech rendering Tony or his suit invisible. It even has the ability to safely eject Tony and fight autonomously via the A.I. Friday. Had the "power" of alcoholism for a while, but with some help gave it up. Stay sober or get pulled over, kids.

And now for Visarak's team, which is positively brimming with fabulous secret powers.

The Strongest Magical Girl of the Universe

He-Man (Filmation's He-Man, I guess)

Submission Post

Bio: A blonde buff guy in a vest transforms into a blonde buff guy wearing significantly less to fight evil and deliver PSAs about the dangers of drugs, all to sell a toy line that was the personification of "Eh, fuck it". There was a character with a big ol' metal fist, and his power was punching good, and his name was Fisto. You now know everything you need to name a He-Man design.

Abilities: He stabs, (presumably, I've yet to see it happen.) he punches, he even sings! All with nothing but a thong and five points of articulation.

Mamika (Re:Creators)

Submission Post

Bio: Magical girls that aren't Magipro? In my scramble? It's more likely than you think. In a series where fictional characters get isekai'd into the real world for a change, Mamika comes from a Sailor Moon-esque series and learns that life sucks. So basically magical girls aren't allowed to have fun anymore.

Abilities: Shields and heart shaped projectiles I guess. So naive that she helped a villain for a while, but nobody's perfect.

Analysis: Everyone's favorite part of writeups.

Iron Man vs. He Man:

Well, He-Man's respect thread is 90% strength feats, besides two durability feats that don't really mean anything? (Durability buff not withstanding) "Doesn't get sucked up by thing that magically sucks people up" is kind of hard to translate to notable durability, especially without a scan of some sort. And getting hit by a stun ray that stunned an identically amped creature just means that yep, the stun ray sure can stun, alright. Now, with the durability buff not involving the HF blade feats, He-Man's new durability is comparable to no-selling Raiden's punches. Good think that doesn't give him energy resistance feats. He-Man has the edge in physical strength, but since Tony's specialty is ranged weaponry and flight all he really needs it to not let the barbarian with a sword get close. He's a smart guy, he can probably figure that out.

Tony also has an edge in tactics and variety. His armor gives him plenty of options in form and weaponry from shape-shifting to advanced cloaking and zero point energy, and Tony will gladly use it to keep He-Man on his toes as he wears him down. His armor can even operate without him inside and since it can easily regenerate from damage, it will leave Tony with next to no risk whatsoever if He-Man gets up close with his very standard methods of attack.

TLDR: A man of iron trumps any man... of He.

Raven vs. Mamika:

Another day, another unorthodox fighting style. So, first things first, raven's stasis can essentially negate Mamika's ranged attack, leaving her at a massive disadvantage considering her lack of physical striking ability. Poor girl has one feat for blocking a sword. Meanwhile, Raven's no stranger to throwing punches or stopping big ol' robots. (Though with her own ranged options, she doesn't need to be) This will leave Mamika on the defensive, which is unfortunate considering two things:

A: Mamika can fly, but so can Raven, meaning she won't ever stay out of Raven's reach. (Also doesn't help that stasis projectiles can home in on enemies) B: Her shields can be smashed through by Raven just chucking the ground (or her own projectiles) at her via stasis. Hell, Raven can just use her shifting to toss mamika around, shield or no shield.

TLDR: Raven beats the shift out of Mamika.

“So, Stark.” Raven gestured to a sign welcoming them to sunny Arizona. “Nevada, huh?”

“Right. My off the cuff guess was wrong. Happy?” Iron Man held up a finger before Raven could interject. “I know cities, I know landmarks, I’ve got basic geography under my belt.” He stretched his arms out, gesturing to the dessert around them. “This stretch of sand we’ve been flying over for hours now? Not a landmark.” He sighed as he stared at the barren land. “Friday, help me out here. There’s gotta be some working GPS nearby we can interface with.”

“Speaking of… that thing, what is it?”

He looked offended at her phrasing. “She has a name, y’know.”

“Well maybe if I knew what she was I wouldn’t be so weirded out! Think of that, genius?”

“You have a point.” Tony held up a hand. Time to enter presentation mode. Anything to distract himself from this dull landscape. “Let me answer your question with a question, then: How advanced is your technology back home? Do you have cars? Television? Robotics? Internet? Do I sound like I’m just making up words?”

Raven could nearly feel her eyes glazing over. This guy really loved to hear himself talk. “Cut to the chase!”

“I just don’t wanna overload your brain.” With a snap of his fingers, Friday appeared again. Tony gestured to her with a smile. He was in full sales pitch persona. “Friday is an artificial intelligence. Like a machine, but able to think like a person does. She lacks a physical form, so I gave her a humanoid projection, hoping that it would make people more comfortable. Apparently that doesn’t work for you. Nothing wrong with that, the uncanny valley’s tricky like that.”

Raven was pretty sure that last comment was a backhanded insult, but Tony was dropping all of this so casually, leaving it impossible to focus on a sly comment. “Like a robot, huh? How smart is she?”

“Whenever some asks, I usually say ‘Smarter than both of us put together.’ I haven’t been proven wrong yet.”

“How can you say something like that without realizing how creepy it sounds?”

“She’s not gonna rebel and kill all humans, or whatever you’re expecting. She wants to live and learn just like the rest of us.”

“Okay then. If you say so.” Raven slowly reached a hand towards the hologram, as though she were trying to pet a hateful cat. “Nice to, um, meet you… Friday.”

Friday gave a small curtsey as she took Raven’s hand. It was like Raven grabbed a handful of air. “Likewise, Miss Raven.”

“Still weird?” Tony asked.

Raven nodded. At least she wasn’t staring at Friday like she'd steal her soul.

“Well don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to warm up to each other while we find where the Patch tribe live.” Tony stared at the sand around them, half expecting a tumbleweed to roll across it. But no, he couldn’t even have that. “Wherever that is.”

“So how do you plan to find em without those special Stark satellites?”

“I was hoping you wouldn’t pay attention to that. Anyways, the elaborate answer is to find access to government satellites. Friday can help hack into them, then after a quick google mapping we get the tribe in our sights. But that’s especially time intensive.”

“So, what if that doesn’t work out?”

Tony shrugged in reply. “Well, we walk. Find some civilization and ask for directions.”

“That sucks too. Why don’t we just fly from one end of this place to the other?”

“I’m not sure what the lay of the land is like back at your home Raven, but states can be… kind of big.”

“Ya sure this time?”

Tony sighed. “Gonna hear that the rest of this shaman thing, aren’t I?”

Raven gave him a punch on the shoulder. “As long as we’re here. But if you’re sure it’s too time consuming, I guess we’d better start walking.” Raven took about three steps before letting out an exhausted huff.

“You didn’t happen to snatch water from that cart where you got the donuts, did you?”

Raven wiped at her brow, already slick with sweat. “I’ll live. You?”

“Air conditioning was one of my first armor enhancements, I’ve got this.” Tony’s suit extended an arm, forming a panel out of nanites. It hummed as it hovered slightly overhead, hitting Raven with a cool breeze as it shaded her. “Still, it would be great if my Shaman didn’t collapse from heat stroke before we officially started searching. Should have more than enough power to keep that running for a week if we need to.”

Raven stared at the panel as she took a few steps, impressed to see it lazily drifting to follow her steps and stay over her head. “Huh, neat. Way to make yourself useful.”

“I aim to please, oh wise Shaman. Now, lets gets directions the old fashioned way.” Tony landed on the side of the road and stuck out a thumb.

“What are you doing?”

“Hitchhiking. We pull someone over and ask them for the lay of the land.”

“Ah.” As a truck passed, Raven shifted it, stopping it dead. “I got it.”

“Hoowee! Thank god for seatbelts!” The driver exclaimed. He rolled down his window, sliding his brown afro out it as he stared at the duo.

“Uh, sorry about that, sir. My friend here is… eager.”

“Nothin’ wrong with that, robot man! I’m somethin’ of a thrill seeker myself.” He pointed a thumb to his chest with a confident smile. “The name’s Ulmeyda. And you-” with this, he pointed at them. “Must be here for the Shaman King.”

“How do ya figure that?”

“This little tournament draws in all sorts of eccentric types, my good man! Some folks ain’t too fond of that, it shakes up their lives. But I am a firm believer in variety bein’ the spice a life!” He breathed in deeply, then exhaled. “So, you must’ve stopped me for a reason. You ain’t lost are ya?”

Iron Man’s hand wavered. “A little.”

“Well, I’d be happy to help ya! Anything to shake up this fuckin’ truckin’ lifestyle!” Ulmeyda laughed at his little rhyme. “There’s a little park in Colorado, that’s where it takes place! I’ve never joined this tournament myself, been too scared to, but I hear whispers of a place called Mesa Verde.”

“Mesa Verde?”

“Green Table, some would say.” Again, a laugh from Ulmeyda. “So, whaddya say? Give a trucker a story to tell, and get a free ride!”

“Sure.”

"Well hop on in! He popped his passenger side door. "Just push all those snuff cans aside and we can rock on!"

After an uneventful ride that only a desert could provide, Shaman and Spirit stood in front of a sign welcoming them to Mesa Verde National Park. “Well, this is certainly a national park, alright.”

Ulmeyda beamed with pride, his day officially being made. “Just as I promised, ma'am. Now, y’all take care.”

“Wait," Tony interrupted. "What about directions to the tribe inside Mesa Verde?”

“Fuck if I know!” Ulmeyda laughed again. “Like I said, I’m a thrill seeker, and even I’ve been too scared shitless to try this challenge myself!”

“Thanks f-f-for nothing.”

Ulmeyda gave Raven a fake frown. “You’re developin’ quite a sniffle, missy. Your garb ain’t suited to cold.” He looked up as snow began to fall. “And what an inopportune time for that. I hope your friend’s got a spare coat in his glove box.”

“Happy trails, asshole.” Tony scoffed as Ulmeyda peeled out. “Jokes on him, Raven. I actually could make a coat from this suit. Wouldn’t be the first time.”

“But… you’re already wearing it. Besides, I prefer not to be weighed down. Makes shifting easier.”

“Well, let me at least make a small adjustment.” With a click, the fan device hovering over Raven glowed a warm orange. Flecks of snow melted around her. “Should hold, unless things go south.”

Raven couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief. “Thanks.”

“Thank me when we get you somewhere warmer.”

“So let’s go. I didn’t come here to freeze to death.”

After some shivering, they happened across a cabin. Tony knocked on the door and was greeted by a blonde woman wearing a Ranger hat. She looked the strangers up and down before asking “You two are here for the Shaman Tournament, ain’tcha?”

“Is it that obvious?”

“Well, you tell me, robot man.”

“Iron Man, actually. And yes, we’re looking for-”

“Patch tribe, I bet. Y’all ain’t the first folks I’ve pointed in the right direction.” She held up a finger. “But if I’m gonna be helpin’ you, I want one thing clear. I’m Bluebell Bloch, and I’m this park’s ranger. You treat it with respect, and I’ll treat you with respect. Are we clear?”

“Yes ma’am.”

“Great. Now, get that poor woman in here, she’ll catch her death out there.”

After a few bowls of hearty beef stew, Ranger Bloch was ready to guide the duo. “Before we head out.” Bloch reached into a closet and threw something at Raven. “Put that on, fer god’s sake. This is a snowfall, not a day at the beach.” Raven slipped on the old furry parka. The worn thing had seen better days.

She gave Tony the evil eye. “You better not be smiling under that helmet, Stark.”

“I would never.” Iron Man insisted, barely holding back a laugh. “At least you won’t need my little heat pad anymore.”

Bloch cleared her throat. “Now that we understand each other, let me just change my truck's oil an-" A radio at her desk crackled. Bluebell answered it, and suddenly grew frantic. "Shit, Apollo!"

"Apollo?"

"There’s a big ol’ bear in these woods named Apollo. He’s got a scarred eye so damaged it looks like the crater of a moon.”

“And he’s dangerous?”

“Oh, he’s just a sweetheart. Me and my Pa raised him ourselves. That bear’s near an’ dear to me. Some campers complained that a bear matching Apollo’s description was getting too close to a nearby campsite, so I gotta help him.”

"We can shoo the bear." Iron Man offered. "You need to fix your truck anyways, right?"

"I- Hell, that's awful nice of ya." Bluebell popped her truck’s hood. “Tell ya what: Make sure he’s fine, and I’ll take ya straight to the tribe.”

Raven gave a loud slurp as she finished her bowl of soup. “We can handle that.”

It took a short flight to find the bear. Even from a bird's eye view it was massive, at least twice as large as an average Grizzly. Even without seeing its face, the two were fairly confident that this was their bear. And that made what they saw next very unfortunate. A little girl in a dress stood in front of the bear, hefting an ornate broadsword with a big red bow tastefully tied around its hilt. The poor girl was shaking like a leaf as she stared the bear down.

“M-Magical Slash!” She attempted to swing the sword while she shouted a catchphrase, though she wound up falling back due to its weight.

"Oh, great. Ready to pry these two apart without hurting anyone?"

"All we need to do is keep the bear from getting hurt, don't we?"

“You can’t seriously be considering leaving the girl to deal with a bear.” Iron Man fired a repulsor just over the bear’s head to distract it. As it turned and snarled Iron Man flew past it, reaching the girl. “Get out of here, kid!”

A beefy arm appeared from the sword, halting Iron Man. “We appreciate the attempt, Roboto.” The voice took shape as a blonde barbarian in a loincloth materialized. “But we can handle a little grizzly. Isn’t that right, princess of power?”

“Y-yes sir!” Mamika saluted.

“Okay, Conan.” Tony was almost worried how much nonsense he was taking in stride. “But I can’t let you hurt this bear. It belongs to a friend. Now saying that out loud, I’m sure it sounds-”

“That bear can defend itself just fine, metal man! Now, why would you want to shoo us away from this bear so eagerly?” He-Man squinted at Iron Man “Perhaps you’re some kind of poacher? I wouldn’t put it past Skeletor to make a poaching robot!”

Iron Man raised his hands. “Hold on, Goldilocks, you’re getting hung up on all the wrong details.”

“It’s too late to talk your way out of this, Poachor!” He-Man flexed a mighty bicep. “If you’re not with us, you’re against us!” He stated.

“Yeah!” Mamika agreed as she twirled the sword like a baton. “And in the name of all things sweet-”

“And the power of Grayskull-”

“WE WILL PUNISH YOU!” Both finished in a shower of sparkles.

Tony sighed as he readied his repulsors. “Raven, we’ve got a problem, get ready! ...Raven?”

Raven stepped back as Apollo turned towards her, marred eye confirming that yes, this giant angry bear was the one Ranger Bloch didn’t want them to hurt. “You’re an angry one, aintcha?” Raven noted as it roared in her face. Undaunted, she struck a combat stance, ready to kick this bear in the face. “So Bluebell’s gonna be pissed if the bear gets hurt. Think she’ll get mad if we argue it was self defense?”

“Let’s not find out.” Iron Man’s hand shifted into a small cannon. “Slow those two down, gimme a second to protect the bear.” As Tony turned away from the magical sword girl and threw an energy shield around the confused alpha bear, Raven shifted the environment around them, uprooting small trees and chunks of earth.

The floating debris slowed Mamika down slightly, but as He-Man’s confidence surged through her she grew stronger. With a swing of the sword, several heart shaped projectiles emerged from it and tore apart Raven’s cover. One more swing of the sword, and Tony had only a moment to defend himself as the blade fell. He reflexively swung his blaster forward, only for the blade to cleave through it. He grunted as a few hearts exploded against his armor.

Mamika swung again. Iron Man’s hand shifted into a blade to catch the strike. He wasn’t much of a skilled swordsman, but at least this girl seemed just as inexperienced. Unfortunately, Tony wasn’t riding near as much of a combat high as this little girl in a poofy skirt. So, this is gonna be my next few weeks? As she eagerly traded slashes with Tony, He-Man appeared behind her and destroyed more of Raven’s projectiles with a battle ax. Iron Man formed his free hand into another blade and pinned Mamika’s sword with it. She pushed against his guard, only for Tony to kick on his thrusters and force her back.

While they locked blades, Iron Man saw Raven streak past the corner of his eye. He continued to push against Mamika, forcing her to focus on him as Raven circled back. She shifted again, corkscrewing through the air as she aimed a kick at the distracted magical girl’s back.

A shield spawned behind Mamika. As Raven slammed into it without as much as a dent, He-Man fully appeared. “See, Mamika? A hero should always watch their blind spot!” He swung his shield, flinging Raven through a tree in the process.

“Raven!” Iron Man reformed his blades and readied a unibeam. As he fired, He-Man materialized behind Mamika again and deflected the blast. Iron Man threw an iron jab at He-Man, only to be met with a sword slash from Mamika.

He-Man capitalized on the distraction, clasped his hands together and slammed a hammer blow at the armored Avenger’s head. With a sound like a gong ringing Tony was dazed. He regained his composure just in time for He-man to thrust an exploding heart into his arc reactor. “Time to shut you down!”

He couldn’t stop the detonation. He didn’t even register Friday’s panic until he felt himself bodily thrown from the armor. For the briefest of moments he thought the barbarian had actually breached it. “Great.” He felt a thruster in his watch send him as far back as it could take him.

Raven had just recovered from He-Man’s strike, but regained her composure long enough to catch the now armorless Avenger. “Tony? What just happened?”

Tony squinted as his eyes adjusted to the light. “Friday ejected me from the suit. Whatever was in that last attack they hit me with, She doesn’t want me to feel it again.”

Raven set him down on solid ground. “So, how are you gonna fight now?”

Tony started to speak, only for his teeth to chatter. “S-s-so much for making the armor into a coat. Well, Friday’s got the keys, so to speak. She’s a capable girl.”

Mamika was also baffled by the ejection. “There was a person in that? These creations are weird.”

“We must have freed him.” He-Man offered. “But that just means we don’t have to hold back!” Mamika nodded as she swung her sword. The armor caught the blade with a hand.

“You really shouldn’t have hurt my boss.” Friday stated as she gripped the blade. Mamika squirmed for a moment until the strength of He-Man surged through her, cleaving the suit’s arm in two. The sword passed through the armor easily, but it simply reformed itself while a second arm charged a beam. Friday fired through Mamika’s shield, giving her time to get airborne and deploy several missiles. With some encouragement from He-Man Mamika recovered from the blast and took to the skies, retaliating with heartillery of her own.

Tony saw the explosions overhead and sighed. “So much for respecting the park.”

“Well, at least she’s holding them off.”

“I have a bad feeling that’s just delaying the… inevitable.” Tony snapped his fingers. “Raven, I have an idea. It’ll sound crazy, but it just might win this.”

Raven sat confused after Tony finished whispering. “What?”

“Like I said, crazy.” Tony slapped his watch onto raven’s wrist. “But it’s not like we have better options.”

u/Emperor-Pimpatine Mar 23 '19

Raven sighed. “This had better not kill us, Stark.” Raven took a deep breath as she shifted towards the armor. The suit spread open, unfurling like a flower as Raven entered it. She felt heavier for a moment, then the suit adjusted and she saw the world through a blue tint. She clenched and unclenched her fingers, and the suit did the same. “I think it worked, Stark.”

“Then do something!”

Raven pictured rocketing forward, shifting into her foes with all her might. The armor took on a blue aura as she assumed control.

She leapt into the air. Thrusters formed along the back of the armor as she exploded forward. As she corkscrewed through the air, the armored gauntlets gradually shifted into whirring drills. Her crow familiar appeared alongside her, caught in her orbit. Friday’s projected form followed, orbiting with the crow until the two merged into a harpy-like form.

Raven gave a mighty scream as she charged towards Mamika and He-Man. The magical girl fired heart after heart, only for them to bounce off of the raging Raven. He-Man tried to guide the young girl, give her focus. Mamika panicked and raised her sword to defend herself as Raven connected.

“WEEE HAVE THE POWERRR!” He-Man shouted as he appeared with his arms outstretched. He grabbed at Raven’s drills, trying to slow her down, push her back, do something. Smoke spewed from the drills and lightning crackled from the sword of power as the oversouls clashed. He-Man gave one last yell as he pushed against Raven’s charge. Finally there was a flash of light. The armor seemed to melt off of Raven. She gave one last yell as she shifted the armor itself, flinging a hail of nanites at her foes.

Mamika gave a short yip as He-Man dissipated and the sword was forcefully thrown from her grasp. She watched as it went sailing through the air. “He-Man!” She turned towards Raven, backing away as the armor reformed around her.

“Go. Leave.” Raven ordered, the mechanical reverberation adding an extra layer of menace.

Mamika nodded as she flew after the sword.

Raven turned towards Tony as he gave a round of applause. “Impressive job, Raven. Didn’t quite expect all of that, but nothing wrong with a pleasant surprise.”

“So, how did you know that would work?”

Tony gave a shrug. “It was just a guess, honestly. Those two were working in sync, so I figured combining our skill sets would throw them off.”

“So we won because of a guess?”

“It worked, didn’t it? And uh, can I have my armor back?”

“Sure.” Raven exited the suit. “Weighs me down anyways.”

Friday appeared as Raven dismounted. “It was a pleasure to work with you, miss Raven.”

“Don’t- please don’t make it weird.” She stared at Apollo, who had long grown bored of prodding the bubble around him and settled down for a nap. “And the bear’s fine, too.” The energy bubble dispersed.

Tony gave a content sigh as he stepped back into his armor. “Yep. This has gone about as well as-”

“Hold it!” Mamika landed dramatically, sword in hand and a He-Man band-aid on her forehead. “We’re not done yet!”

“Oh never mind,” Tony finished. “this is more like it.”

Raven lifted a large chunk of earth. “Tony, give me the armor back! I got an idea!”

“I just got in it again.”

Before round two could start, a pair of headlights bathed the combatants. A large forestry service truck rolled up and Ranger Bloch nearly jumped out of the driver’s seat, shotgun in hand. “What the hell are you doin’?!”

Iron Man pointed an accusatory finger at the magical menaces. “The girl and her sword want to kill your bear.”

Bloch flashed her badge. “So, looking to hunt a protected species out of season, huh?” She leaned down to see the magical girl eye to eye. “I betcha don’t even have hunting licenses, do ya?”

“Umm… He-Man?” Mamika began.

“Sorry, Mamika.” He-Man materialized. “As heroes, we have to respect local law enforcement.” He turned towards ranger Bloch. “Sorry, Ranger. That big bear frightened my friend here, and I saw a chance to teach her a very special lesson about bravery.”

“You know, you could have gotten her hurt. Let alone killing off the last of a species.”

He-Man nodded. “And I’ll gladly accept the consequences.” He-Man knelt to Mamika “You see, sometimes people see responsibility as a scary thing. But responsibility is important, it’s a duty to yourself and others. Taking responsibility for your actions is a key part of growing older, and wiser. Don’t do drugs. Stay in school.” He-Man smiled warmly as a lens flare gleamed off of his perfect teeth.

Mamika was awed by the public service announcement. “Y-yes sir!”

Bloch sighed. “That was lovely and all, but you still need to pay a fine for disturbing the wildlife.”

“Very well. No price is too small to uphold the law!”

“You’re lookin’ at at least $250, maybe more without a license, blondie.” Bloch knelt down to the sleeping Apollo. “Glad to see you’re doin’ fine, big guy.” She scratched the bear under the chin, causing him to let out a satisfied growl.

“Guess he was loaded for bear.” He-Man said. He and Mamika laughed. Bloch laughed along with them. Raven and Iron Man awkwardly laughed along, fearing what might happen if they didn’t.

After the laugh session, Bloch motioned Iron Man and Raven back to her truck. “Well, ya saved my bear. A deal’s a deal. Now I’m ready to head to the tribe whenever y’all are.”

“No time like the present. Unless you wanna stick around, Raven?”

Raven was already in the truck. “I’m calling the window seat this time.”

Tony was in no mood to argue. “Fair enough.”

Shaman - Dalek Sec (Doctor Who)

|Submission|

"You are superior in only one respect. [...] You are better at dying!"

Spirit - Mikoto Misaka (A Certain Scientific Railgun)

|Submission|

"You asked how I'm supposed to take on overwhelming mass, right? Lemme show you..."

10 miles Northeast of Four Corners National Monument

10:25 PM

“Ok stand back”

A jagged bolt of white light sprang from Misaka’s forehead to ignite the pile of dry grass and twigs in front of her. She crouched down and began rearranging the blossoming fire to keep it from spreading to the nearby brush.

“All set. Are you hungry?”

Misaka picked up the plastic shopping back she had left on the side of the road and sauntered over to her politely reserved fire.

“Wait. Do you even eat?”

The stout metal obelisk stood motionless under the stars.

Silence.

“More for me I guess.”

The contents of the bag were unceremoniously dumped on the ground next to the fire as Misaka sat on a marginally comfortable patch of grass and started tucking into a package of powdered doughnuts.

After she had finished off the convenience store spoils, the middle schooler made herself cozy on the ground and stared up at the night sky.

“Which one is yours?”

A shrill metallic voice pierced the silent desert air.

SKAAARO IS MANY GALAXIES AWAY. YOUR SENSORS ARE INSUFFICIENT TO DETECT MY HOME.

“Alright, but where in the sky would it be?”

The Dalek sat silently for a moment in his metal cocoon. Then he lifted a gunstick to point toward the southern horizon and fired a pulse of destructive light into the night.

THERE.

“Thank you.”

Misaka fell asleep a moment later, the cool dry wind carrying her off.

5:27 AM

INTRUDER ALERT. PREPARE TO ENGAGE.

Misaka slowly sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. The fire had burned away to nothing and only a lone tendril of smoke rose up from the ash.

“What are you going on about? We’re in the middle of no-“

BEEP BEEEP. A car horn coming from the road.

“The hell are you doing out here alone?”

Spinning around to where Sec was aiming his gunstick, Misaka noticed a white truck with a long metal arm folded neatly along the top. Mesa Verde National Park was stamped in green letters on the driver’s side door.

“There’s a bear in the area, get in the truck!” A blonde woman with long braids shouted from the driver’s seat.

Misaka stood up and brushed herself off. Sec rolled up beside her, gunstick still pointed at the truck.

“And bring your litter. Apollo can smell food for miles.”

Sec began to charge up a blast.

“Stop that you idiot!” Misaka ordered. “Maybe she can help us.”

The blonde woman slapped the side of her door. “Cmon! I don’t have all day.” She said impatiently. “This truck needs to get up to Mesa Verde by dawn.”

Misaka shot a glance at Sec, who was already lowering his blaster.

The rancher mentioned that the Patch Tribe had ties to Mesa Verde.

“Alright. We’ll come.”

6:30 AM

“A school science project? That’s a good one lil’ miss. That contraption you got there looks like it rolled straight outta Roswell or somethin’.”

The woman thumbed a finger toward the bed of the truck. Sec’s eyestalk watched her intently. The day’s first light was beginning to spread over the sky, turning the few wispy clouds a light pink. Small trees were beginning to replace the desert scrub grass as the truck sped northward.

“Name’s Bluebell Bloch by the way, I’m the park ranger for these parts.”

“Oh I uh- I’m sorry. My name’s…” Misaka looked around the front seat of the truck anxiously for something to help her. She needed something American sounding.

“My name’s Pepsi.”

Bluebell burst out laughing, whacking the steering wheel a couple times as she composed herself. Misaka’s face turned beet red.

“Ooh hoo alright there Pepsi! And what brings you out here again? Patch Tribe?”

“Yes that’s right. I need their help.” Misaka quickly responded.

The truck turned off the street and onto a rough dirt path heading into a dark forest. As the tires hit the first bumps in the road, a radio on the dash crackled to life

“Bluebell, come in!” An excited voice rattled off.

Bluebell picked up the handset and barked into it.

“Yeah what is it Chris?”

“Apollo is attacking a hunter just north of your current location. If you’re going to stop him, you need to get there fast.”

Bluebell dropped the handset on the dash as the radio clicked off and slammed the truck into third gear. Misaka instinctively reached for the seatbelt, her hand passing clean through the buckle.

Right. Still a ghost.

Bluebell didn’t seem to notice, her brow furrowed as she muttered a curse under her breath.

“Apollo?!” Misaka looked worriedly at the park ranger.

“The bear that’s been roaming the area. Me and my father raised it, protecting him is why I became a park ranger. Help me keep him safe and I’ll take you all the way to the Patch Chief’s doorstep!”

The truck barreled down the road and turned down a questionable path that led further into the deepest part of the forest.

“Apollo’s always gittin’ himself into trouble this time of year.” Bluebell said to no one in particular, her bright cobalt eyes scanning the trees for signs of her charge.

Suddenly her foot hit the brake. Hard. While Misaka was unaffected, Sec slid to the front of the truck bed and hit the cabin with a shriek. Misaka followed Bluebell’s eyes to a clearing in the woods off to the right. There, a peculiar diorama unfolded in front of her.

A beam of dawn light shone through the canopy, illuminating two figures dwarfed by the massive pine trees that surrounded them. Which was saying something. Well, for one of them.

Apollo the bear stood in front of a boy on his hind legs and Misaka didn’t need a trip to the Acadmeny City Zoo for comparison to know that this was no ordinary bear. Apollo towered over the boy, easily fifteen feet tall and built like a small house, swatting the air and growling in a low rumble.

The boy, however must have been blind. Or stupid. Of all the strange characters she had come across in academy city, none had ever looked as ridiculous. This teenager, standing a few inches shy of six feet was dressed from head to toe in a bright red skin-tight suit complete with a long black cape and matching black boots.

He stood below the massive bear with his fists glued to his hips and his chest puffed out, showing off a bright yellow triangle covering his torso. He spoke—or rather proclaimed—to the bear.

“Ha! You’re not so big! Baixi’s gonna be 50 bucks poorer when I’m through with you.”

Misaka hadn’t noticed Bluebell step out of the car until she already had her rifle pointed at the boy in red.

“You best be gittin along there kid. Apollo ain’t like me. He don’t take kindly to strangers and can do some damage if he’s provoked.”

“Aw come on lady.” the boy complained “I’ve got good money riding on this fight!”

Bluebell cocked her rifle. “Now. Move it. I won’t tell you again.”

“Pfft.” The boy turned back to the bear and raised his fists. “Let’s go you dumb animal.”

BANG

Bluebell’s rifle went off.

The boy dropped to the ground, the bullet whizzing inches over his head.

Apollo snarled and smashed the ground with his paws. The boy managed to roll to the side to just barely avoid making good friends with the pine grove root system. The impact shook the ground. Misaka was getting nervous. Bluebell needed help.

The boy quickly stood up, planted his feet on the ground and tackled the bear head on knocking it backwards into a nearby tree. This seemed to do little more than enrage Apollo.

Misaka looked behind her seat at the truck bed. Dalek Sec was gone.

BOOOOM

She whipped her head around just in time to see the wannabe superhero sailing through the air to land on his back, a dark hole burnt into his side under his arm.

EXTERMINATE SHAAAMAN!

Sec flew past Misaka and Bluebell, firing into the forest at Apollo’s attacker. Bluebell dropped into a low crouch and hurried over to protect the bear. Explosions rang out through the forest. Just as Sec’s gunstick tore through the foliage, light from the super-kid’s eyes burned through the undergrowth.

Misaka was standing next to the truck watching the chaos unfold when she felt a cold presence creep under her skin. From beneath a shadow cast by one of the large pines emerged a tall man with dark skin dressed in black medieval armor. He walked with an air of arrogance and purpose, a red mantle billowing behind him though there was no wind.

Capes must be back in fashion. Misaka thought.

The morning light seemed to take a detour on its way to the ground, shrouding the figure in shadow even as he stood in the light.

“I did tell him that fighting the bear was a waste of time.” The man spoke, a voice like knives drawing blood.

“The boy really does have talent. And power.”

“Are you his spirit?” Misaka asked, reaching out with her senses to feel the EM field around her opponent. Nothing. Spirit for sure.

“As I’m sure you are the alien’s.” the Gerudo replied. “Although you don’t seem all that impressive to me.”

Ganondorf held out his hand and plucked a ball of darkness from the air. He gave it a light toss as a father teaching his son to throw a ball. A bolt of electricity lept off Misaka’s head and tore the ball apart.

“Are we really going to fight here?" Misaka said, a sword of black sand rising from the ground and forming in her fist.

Shouldn’t we be helping our shamans? They’ll burn the forest down if we don’t do something you know.”

“You’re right of course.” He agreed.

Ganondorf reached to his hip to a scabbard that Misaka hadn’t noticed before. He pulled on the hilt of the dark sword it contained. Misaka readied herself to call up a lightning storm, but the spirit just checked the blade, replaced it in its sheath and looked back to her, fading away into the shadows with a glint in his eye.

Misaka closed her eyes, took a sharp breath in, and returned to her medium. The game token inside the Dalek’s casing shuddered as it once again held her ghostly presence.

YOUR COMPLIANCE IS MANDATORY SPIRIT! EXTERMINATE THIS CREATURE!

“I thought that was your job.” Misaka snapped back at Sec. “What are his abilities?”

The Dalek floated above the forest floor, firing down at the boy who was shouting insults into the air.

THE HUMAN IS MORE RESISTANT TO ERADICATION MEASURES THAN MOST.

“Okay so he’s got thick skin. What else?”

THIS HUMAN POSESSES FLIGHT CAPABILITES.

Kenan Kong soared into the air above Sec and with two fists clenched together slammed the Dalek’s head, sending him plummeting to the ground.

--EYES FUNCTION AS LASER WEAP—

Shaman and spirit slammed into the ground at the same time as the boy’s eyes fired a blast of heat into Sec’s armor.

DEFENSIVE SHIELDS COMPROMISED!!

“Now that’s what I call taking out the trash! Get it? Because you look like a trash can?!”

Kenan hovered over the Dalek’s body, gloating with a wide smile spreading across his face.

“Alright I’ve had it with this douchebag.” Misaka growled.

Blue sparks zipped off Sec’s armor to meet the ground. Where they touched, wisps of black sand began to emerge and float into the air, circling the alien death machine slowly. As more sparks arced away from the Dalek, more and more sand join the writhing mass.

"How's that Ganondork? Guess I didn't need--"

A bolt of lightning hit Kenan in the chest, stunning him mid-sentence and dropping him from the sky.

More sand built up around the Dalek, lifting him into the air.

“Ugh. Why didn’t you use that before, Trashy?” Kenan stood up, rubbing his head. The triangle on his chest was glowing where it was struck with power. He looked down, a look of shock and excitement spreading over his face.

“Oh baby! The big guy’s stepping in! Let’s do this!”

The particles around Sec began to flow into two long, thick, sinewy arms that stretched down to the ground, lifting Sec high into the air to rival the trees that had served as a battleground..

“EXTERMINATE!!” The little alien gleefully shouted from inside his casing.

Sec fired a laser at Kenan, but instead of putting a new hole in his fancy uniform, the blast met the palm of his hand as he simply caught the energy.

“Oh this is so much cooler than Super-Man powers! Check this out!”

Kenan pulled a dark blade from thin air and rose into the treetops. Shadowy horns sprouted from the sides of his head as glowing motes of fire started dancing around his changing form. The Super-Man pointed his sword at Misaka and shouted “In your face!”

On command, the fireballs raced toward sec, crashing into his new iron-sand appendages and burning neat holes straight through. Kenan fell in close behind, sword drawn with white movie-star teeth flashing in a devious grin.

Misaka fired deadly bolts of lightning in rapid succession at the flying boy, most missed, but a few found their mark, buying some time for her and her shaman.

She closed her eyes to focus her thoughts, gearing up to send one final bolt straight at the boy’s heart. She opened her eyes and…Gone!

Kenan’s voice came from off to her right.

“Over here stupid!”

WHAM!

Ganondorf’s sword smashed into the iron sand arm, tearing it from the Dalek and dropping it uselessly to the ground.

Okay. New strategy. This guy's a teleporter. We need to be on the defensive.

Iron sand coalesced around Sec’s body into a wobbly dark gray sphere of undulating mass that hovered imposingly in the forest.

Kenan wasted no time in hacking at the mass with his sword, burning bits away with his heat vision. With his new found abilties, he was everywhere at once, punching from one side, teleporting to the other slash, and vanishing again to fire his heat vision from above. Wherever he struck, more sand rose from the ground to repair the wound, quickly repairing his damage.

Drawing in a deep breath, the teenager let out a powerful breath of ice-cold air. He circled around the sand armor, blowing a thick layer of ice to entirely coat his enemy.

CRASH!

Tendrils of sand shot out, puncturing the icy prison and shattering the attack like glass.

“Aw that’s no fun! Are you tired of fighting? Just let me win then, I’m hungry!”

Kenan floated several meters from the growing sphere, deciding what to do next.

“Alright I’m bored. Time to finish this. Batter up!”

Empowered by the dark lord’s energy, Kenan Kong created a brilliant point of light at the tip of his sword. He swung the sword like a baseball bat, sending the ball of light at his enemy.

Inches before impact, Mikasa let out a tendril of sand to punch the ball of light combined with a bolt of electrical force from inside the sphere, and send it back toward Kenan.

“Oh Tennis? I’m good at tennis. I think. Probably.”

The boy prepared to swing again, putting the full might of his spirit’s power into the sword. But before he made contact, he was hit with the railgun.

The iron sand particles encasing the Dalek erupted with the electrical energy they had built up rubbing together over the course of the battle. Bullets of iron sand, fired as one solid mass like a 5-ton cannonball at mach speed struck Kenan Kong.

The super-boy’s form vanished, carried up and out of the forest, far over the treetops out of sight.

With the enemy gone, Sec and Mikasa floated down to the ground. The iron sand dropped into a large mound in the clearing.

“Well normally I’m not one for bells and whistles, but with that kinda fireworks show, you outta be working at Disney!”

Bluebell stepped out from behind the truck where she had posted up with her rifle. Apollo was nowhere to be seen. She looked around the clearing. Trees had fallen from the battle, black scorch marks scarred the soil.

“Well Pepsi, you made a mess of federal property but I suppose I ought to be thanking you for keeping my bear safe.”

Misaka materialized once again in front of the young woman.

“Patch Tribe. Let’s go.”

Bluebell stared at the girl wide-eyed with a look of understanding on her face.

“I knew you were a hologram from the start. Ain’t nobody spends a night sleeping on the ground to look that clean.”

Analysis

Dalek Sec vs. Kenan Kong

These characters actually have more in common than you might think. Both are bullies that have been given extreme power. Both love snide remarks and they always seem to be making out just fine despite constantly being out of their element. Lets talk durability. Super-Man's has been matched to tier so we can use (Major) Armstrong's durability. His battle with Sloth shows that he could probably take a few hits, but wouldn't be able to sustain the fight indefinitely. Sec's best blaster feats include putting a hole through a foot of concrete and creating car-sized explosions. His shield has been shown to tank other Dalek's blasts, but again, has a breaking point. Because Kenan has some really good heat resistance feats, walking through Super-Man Zero's heat vision, I'd guess that punching Sec's shield probably wouldn't burn him too badly. He's also far more maneuverable in the air and in general. Sec 3/10.

Mikoto Misaka vs. Ganondorf

Who doesn't want to see a demigod of darkness fight a middle-schooler? Ganondorf is a bit tricky to pin down, because pretty much whenever he's actually been defeated (or locked away in another dimension for a good bit), it's been at the hands of Link wielding the Master Sword or Zelda with light arrow. There is a lot of mysticism associated with Ganon/Ganondorf in general that it's unclear whether he can even be beaten by conventional means, but assuming he can, he's still a tough nut to crack. Misaka can do some serious damage with her railgun ability, depending on how much metal she access to. With enough time to accumulate iron sand from the ground over the course of a fight, I think one hit from something like this would put the dark lord down. Since Kenan now has access to teleportation from his spirit, he's going to be really annoying to try and hit. However, Misaka is best friends and roommates with a teleporter. She knows how they operate and can plan her strategy against it. Misaka 7/10.

Team ZAP! vs. Team Eclipse

For both of these teams, the shaman is an asshole who will try and bend their spirit to their will. Fat chance of that. The actual abilities within the spirit-shaman pairs have a lot of synergy. Sec and Misaka can communicate electrically and have superior environmental sense. Kenan is already well acquainted with magic, so getting a little dark-magic mojo will fit right into his skill set. Beyond that, it just comes down to whether or not the spirit can stand the shaman's attitude. To that, I say it's almost an even split, with the slight edge to Team ZAP!, as Sec has been known to cooperate with humans, but Ganondorf has pretty much always acted unilaterally once he's tricked someone into summoning him. Team Zap! 5.5/10.

Bear Minimum

Xenovia, shivering, rubbed her hands together in a vain attempt to get some extra heat on herself. "Oh my G*d it's so cold!"

"I don't know what you're complaining about," Black Mage said, sipping on an ethereal cup of cola, "I feel fine."

"That's cuz you've got those big comfy robes on! I'm freezing in my casual clothes!"

"That's actually probably the thing that has the least to do with it, so congrats on finding that extreme," he said between sips. "You were too hot in the desert, you're too cold here... I swear, women."

"Shaddup! I'm the one of us who has to do all the work, I'm allowed to complain once in a while..."

"Women."

"How long until we get there?"

"Well," Black Mage answered, pulling a large, ghostly map out of his sleeve, "assuming that dweeb in the hat was on the up and up, we're in the park that we're supposed to be in. Just, you know, not at the right part of it, I guess."

Xenovia sneezed. "What's that mean?"

"Keep walkin', is what it means."
