Finally, an answer to a long held debate

Post image

Shot a match today and found the answer to a decades old debate. Who is better, Slayer or Metallica? Now, many people think this is subjective, but what I have here is irrefutable proof.

I've added notations to my target to note which band I was listening to when shooting that bull. You'll notice the scores were higher for Slayer.

Even with 1 extra bull, Metallica only came up with 700 points, for an average of 53.8. Slayer kicked ass with 1050 points, averaging 87.5.

To be fair, Metallica was sans Cliff Burton, so make what you will of that variable.

Slayer Rules. Case closed.

Childhood .22 question

Post image

I recently got my 30 y/o childhood marlin .22 barrel threaded in preparation to get my daughter into shooting. What type model is this? Im guessing it's a 100 model but I have no idea.

I plan on sanding it down and giving it a new coat. Maybe a new optic too, because that old box redfield isn't cutting it 🤣

KMR S02

My KMR S02 is the best .22 pistol. Fifteen-millimeter groups at 25 m are easy if you can resist the urge to just let it rip. It’s not picky about ammo — this baby eats subsonic rounds with ease without changing the recoil spring.

Ruger American Ri fire

Looking at Ruger American Rimfire for my first bolt action. Specifically the # 8348. I like that it is optic ready, extended mag release, threaded and of course accepts all my Ruger Charger mags. Might be on the heavy side but I think I’m ok with that. Reasonable price. Does anyone have any opinions, advice or input? Thanks.

What is the best midprice bolt action 22? Was thinking about an Anschütz, Tikka or CZ457

It will be mainly used for 100yards/meter target shooting

Tippmann M4 Elite Trigger?

Post image

What's the latest trigger recommendations for the Tippmann M4? I have a later model considered gen 3 with serial over 75k. I'm looking for reliability as well as a crisp break. Considering the CMC 2.5lb trigger. Good to go? I have SSA-E triggers in my AR and love them but read they're a no go. I've read the Larue can work but hit and miss reports of needing to change the hammer to the stock hammer. I'd like a one and done drop in solution. A common complaint I see is light strikes when going after market. Looking to avoid that.

CZ457 shooters, the Yo Dave spring kit is great.

Made a post a week or so ago regarding the heavy trigger in my CZ457 MTR which was breaking around 3 1/4 lbs and didn’t seem to lighten up when adjusting the set screw in the trigger.

Got a lot of recommendations for a Yo Dave trigger spring kit.

Installed one today. Wow, trigger now breaks right around 1 lb and feels excellent. For $29 shipped from Canada, I think it’s hard to go wrong. Heading to the range on Sunday to really test it out.

Just put it together last week, it’s been a year long project to build red dot/folding stock mounts and modify stocks to clear the dot, but they’re almost ready!

Last pic showing size comparison to some non 22s :)

This is just an out of the box Ruger American. Quick bore sight and a few up clicks. Very happy with this for the first ammunition choice.

Was thinking about the TX22 but then found this FN502 first and being a lefty loved the ambidextrous slide & mag release, and safety.

Tippmann M4-22lr, magazine issue.

So i recently bought my first rifle, Tippmann M4-22lr with 11” barrel (not that the barrel lenght matters) and I finally got to test it today. I also bought 25 round magazines to go with it which i was using today.

I loaded the 25 rnd magazines to the full and started shooting, however by 2nd or 3rd bullet the gun jammed and i took the mag out and saw the bullet deformed (image no. 1) and jammed inside the mag (image no. 2 & 3) and which potentially messed up the rounds below it (tilted it downwards or tip the casing pointing forward). I then tried again with another mag - same story. Tried it third time but this time I took out 5 bullets, leaving the mag loaded with 20 and bo issues for the rest of the range day. A buddy of mine has basicly the same gun (7” barrel) and has same issues with 25 rnd mags.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and has a solution or is it a known issue with 25 rnd mags?

PS:

If you’re having the same issue with bullets stuck in your mag, I later unscrewed the top 2 screws (see image no. 4) in loading position, to make the mag expand just enough so that I was able to wiggle out the bullets that were stuck/facing wrong direction and screwed them back.

Just got a CZ 457 American looking for good scope set up. Shooting range varies from 50yard to max 200. Budget around 500$

Hey guys any suggestions for a scope for a CZ 457 American? Just now trying to get into some targets shooting. The farthest I can go out by me is 200 yards maximum and a minimum of 50 yards. My budget is around 500 dollars if need be. Would the Bushnell Match Pro be as good as it gets for that price? Are the Leupolds any good?? I would think somewhat of a lighter weight scope since it’s a lighter weight rifle. Let me know what you guys think! Thank you!

Update - new barrel for Bergara

I think I like this new barrel. It’s a Custom Rifle Barrel 1.25 straight x 25”. Seems to shoot most all my cheap ammo pretty well. Second pick is 50 yards, all 5 shot groups. Can’t wait to see how it does at 100 yards.

Buy Once Cry Once or Value Learner?

Context

I live in Illinois, so AR-style rifles aren’t really an option.

I already own several pistols but want to start learning how to handle and shoot rifles.

Since bolt actions are the most accessible here, that’s where I’m starting.

I’ve been told to learn on a .22 LR, since the fundamentals transfer to bigger calibers and the ammo is much cheaper.

I’ll be attending a 25m Rifle Appleseed course in November, and I’m currently trying to choose which .22 to bring.

Rifles I’m Considering

Tikka T1x

Ruger American Rimfire

Savage Mark II

CZ 457

Bergara BMR

I’m leaning toward the Ruger American since it’s affordable and would serve well as a learner rifle. That said, I’ve seen a lot of people say you’ll eventually want to modify it enough that it’s worth just buying something nicer from the start.

Another factor: I’m not sure if I’d really come back to the .22 after moving up to something like a .308 or 6.5 Creedmoor, so I don’t know if it makes sense to sink more money into a premium rimfire.

My Question

  1. Is it worth buying something like a CZ 457 Varmint MTR up front and just putting a scope on it, versus buying a Ruger American and upgrading later?

  2. Could a 457 V MTR hang with the premium percision shooters if I want to do a 22lr competition?

  3. With your knowledge and experience, what would yall do?

Thanks!

Not bad for CCI ammo. Just bought some ELEY subsonic and some SK Match I’m going to try out this weekend. 10 shots grouping 50 yards - 22lr

Truly a gift having a range I can access whenever I want. Neighbors horses were out so kept things sort of quiet and the Henry Small Game Carbine got to send a couple hundred rounds down range this evening.

My first .22 pistol

Got a Taurus TX22 after seeing countless videos about how reliable and versatile they are. Ran some Remington, Federal, Armscor, and CCI ammo through it, about 150 rounds of each kind. Only hiccup was the Remington ammo sticking in the mag and not feeding right every few rounds in the 16 round mag, which very well could've been a magazine issue with it being brand new, as the Remington was literally the very first ammo i shot through it. Overall VERY impressed with this gun considering it's only $300. Also took a shot at a steel torso target from ~100 yards with some Federal lead nose 40 grain target rounds, hitting center mass. Surprisingly accurate for a pistol so cheap. Only "complaint" I have about it is the trigger, which can easily be swapped out for a different one. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase and have zero regrets!

Hammerli Arms Forge H1 - Cleaning Questions

hello everyone,

I got my first gun, a hammerli arms h1 forge. tonight I sat down and field stripped the gun and put it back together. I learned a lot, but I have some cleaning questions:

I'm using a video by a guy named Hickok45 on youtube for info on how to clean the gun. he specifically mentions that the spring does not need to be cleaned, however mine is really nasty. it's got some white gunk on it, and it could use a good spray. am I going to hurt anything by doing that? he seems pretty conservative with where he sprays, but damn if my gun ain't nasty in the inside. is it ok to be a little more liberal spraying and cleaning the first time, as long as I wipe it down after?

thanks everyone. I'm sure this is a very dumb newbie question, but I've wanted to own a gun for a long time, and I don't want to screw it up!

Components for a short super safe build?

I've got an old CMMG "Builder's kit" consisting of a stripped MK4 lower and an upper with 4" handguard in some funky gold camo and I think it would make for a fun compact SS build.

What parts would you recommend to set this up to run an (ASD) SS reliably?

This'll be my first .22 build so ELI5 me from buffer to barrel.
