TX22 FRT Suppressed

TL;DR - Holosun 509t will run hotter ammo suppressed perfectly at 3.8oz total. Target weight for me is ~2oz though to support more ammo.

I am going to keep playing with the optic choice, but to save other folks some time/money, the Viridian RFX11 that comes with some TORO packages is too light. It’s actually a couple of grams lighter than the optic plate that it replaces. Great for standard semi-auto use and a decent optic for the price, also held up fine for FRT work unsuppressed but too light for suppressed.

The OSight (OLight) S optic is a bit heavier but not heavy enough. I will say that while the box has some cheesy type that is dead giveaway Chinese import, it’s actually not a bad dot. Still too light for suppressed work but could be fine, maybe, if you use CCI Quiet or some other underpowered ammo, maybe with a light spring? I haven’t tested with a Galloway light spring, just guessing so buy at your own risk.

What I show working in this video is full blown artistic behavior: RMSc to RMR plate (Cross Armory), 509t RMR adapter plate, and Holosun 509t. That total package adds about 3.8oz and runs hotter ammo like Remington Thunderbolt (this video) perfectly with either the DA Mask HD or CAT SR. It was just a bit too much weight for CCI SV though, and that is the ammo I run the most in 22LR pistols.

I am going to try a Holosun 507c next to see if it’s 1.5oz + adapter plate get me to ~2oz like the ACRO P2 that I have seen Pew Culture recommending for suppressed FRT hosts.

As fun as modern .22's are, there's something about the classics. Steel, wood, and everything fits together so nicely. 1960 vintage Colt Targetsman.

So I've shot with Lapua Center X at competitions this whole season. I went through roughly 4-5k rounds without any malfunctions or problems. But at the last competition of the season, in the last discipline of the day, during the last series my case got blown up... I had to reshoot the last series and lost couple of points there because only the worst 5 shots are counting...oh well I guess shit happens.

Bought a TX22 Toro about 3 weeks ago. Took it out the the range. Had a variety of ammo. Started with 5 mags of cci standard. Shot through 3 mags great. No issues. Then I inserted the 22rd mag. After quite a few rounds, I had a malfunction. This may be on me here....I'm in the habit of just dropping mag, racking, and if its clear, inserting the mag back in, racking, and firing. We'll, that fkd everything up. Click, nothing. So I pull the mag out again. Look at the mag, and the follower was gone, and the last round was stuck in the spring. Looked everywhere for the follower. Couldn't find it. We were in pretty tall grass.

Any thoughts on what happened here? Trying to get another mag, or even just a follower from Taurus. We'll see how that goes. These 22 rounds are tough to get apart!

Took this Uberti Cattleman 1873 12-shot 22lr single action out for some plinking today. These are very well made single action revolvers that are perfect for a slow, relaxing Sunday afternoon of steel target shooting fun on the cheap.

TX22 and Remington Golden Bullet .22 LR... Don't do it.

Upvotes

Just a heads up for those new TX22 owners out there. I took my TX22 out for the first time this weekend and had the worst experience using Remington Golden Bullet ammo. Picked up one of the 525 round boxes because it was recommended by the salesperson at the big-box store (LGS was closed). Without exaggerating I can say 90% of the box had some type of malfunction. The most common was a failure to return to battery and my palm is bruised from needing to slap the slide forward for probably 300 rounds. Loaded a few magazines with some CCI Tactical and Mini Mag and had zero issues with either of them.

Setting expectations for accuracy

Hey guys,

The long range people say you can’t have a rifle that does reasonably well for precision shooting and hunting. Does that hold true for rimfire as well? I’m looking to set up a 22 for practice and to maybe shoot a few nrl22 matches per year. Most people hear competition and jump straight to the CZ MTR with area 419 rail and massive scope, but then say you’ll just end up buying a match barrel and chassis anyways. I’d much rather have something that more closely resembles a hunting rifle in handling/ergonomics because a) that’s what I’m practicing to shoot, not a 20 lbs PRS rifle and b) I’d take it small game hunting if it’s handy enough.

So let’s say you have a $1500 all in budget. On one end you’ve got a CZ synthetic or T1x mtr with a Leopoldo Vx-3 4.5-14 x 44, second focal plane scope with a 30 mm tube sitting in a pair of 11mm dovetail rings. That should come in around 6.5-7 lbs and $1450, with ergonomics and a scope that match any big game rifle. On the other end is a CZ MTR with a pic rail and a massive 40 oz arken on top, coming in at well over 10 pounds and much more competition oriented.

Is a do it all 22 feasible? How far down the precision rabbit hole do you have to go if your goal is to have something that’ll get MOA-ish accuracy with reasonably priced ammo (<= 20 cents per round) and hold mid pack at a local match?

Tippmann M4-22 Conversion Upper Kit

Upvotes

Does anyone have any experience with the Tippmann M4-22 conversion upper kit?

https://www.opticsplanet.com/tippmann-arms-m4-22-elite-22-long-rifle-16in-upper-receiver.html

I'm curious how this conversion kit performs compared to the Tippmann M4-22 Elite (full rifle).

How cool is the trophy?

Competition was shot in pretty appalling weather, but eased up in time for the prize giving and then went to custard again after.

Finally, an answer to a long held debate

Post image

Shot a match today and found the answer to a decades old debate. Who is better, Slayer or Metallica? Now, many people think this is subjective, but what I have here is irrefutable proof.

I've added notations to my target to note which band I was listening to when shooting that bull. You'll notice the scores were higher for Slayer.

Even with 1 extra bull, Metallica only came up with 700 points, for an average of 53.8. Slayer kicked ass with 1050 points, averaging 87.5.

To be fair, Metallica was sans Cliff Burton, so make what you will of that variable.

Slayer Rules. Case closed.

KMR S02

My KMR S02 is the best .22 pistol. Fifteen-millimeter groups at 25 m are easy if you can resist the urge to just let it rip. It’s not picky about ammo — this baby eats subsonic rounds with ease without changing the recoil spring.

Childhood .22 question

Post image

I recently got my 30 y/o childhood marlin .22 barrel threaded in preparation to get my daughter into shooting. What type model is this? Im guessing it's a 100 model but I have no idea.

I plan on sanding it down and giving it a new coat. Maybe a new optic too, because that old box redfield isn't cutting it 🤣

Remington 581-s or Ruger 10/22

I have both and have cheap scopes on them but want to put a better one on them, which is typically more accurate? I want the most bang for my buck until I can get another scope to upgrade both. Also is there any spare mags out there for the 581-s? I cant find any that arnt discontinued.

P.S didn’t get to shoot either of them much since I just got them

Ruger American Ri fire

Looking at Ruger American Rimfire for my first bolt action. Specifically the # 8348. I like that it is optic ready, extended mag release, threaded and of course accepts all my Ruger Charger mags. Might be on the heavy side but I think I’m ok with that. Reasonable price. Does anyone have any opinions, advice or input? Thanks.

Tippmann M4 Elite Trigger?

Post image
20 Upvotes

What's the latest trigger recommendations for the Tippmann M4? I have a later model considered gen 3 with serial over 75k. I'm looking for reliability as well as a crisp break. Considering the CMC 2.5lb trigger. Good to go? I have SSA-E triggers in my AR and love them but read they're a no go. I've read the Larue can work but hit and miss reports of needing to change the hammer to the stock hammer. I'd like a one and done drop in solution. A common complaint I see is light strikes when going after market. Looking to avoid that.
