Barbarossa, or “red beard”, is a nickname given to him by his enemies. His real name is “Hızır Hayrettin” and his brother Oruç too sometimes mentioned as Barbarossa Oruç.

Oruç had a real red beard, according to rumor, after Oruç died, Hızır dyed his beard red and took over the name.

No, he was Turkish. Europeans called him Barbarossa. There are many theories why but real name was Hayreddin

Hayreddin was also a nickname/title given to him(Hayır ed-Din). His name was Hızır, official title Hızır Reis.
