It was the ottomans who created the state of algiers, specifically khayradin barbarossa and his brother.

It’s funny the contrast in opinions - for arab history he was a true hero, for the uropeans he was just a pirate and algeria was just a giant pirate base lol. Just look him up in english and in arabic, the difference is staggering

kinda how the crusades in European history are all these epic wars and revenge and conquest, meanwhile for arab historian of the time, it was just "yet another series of attacks from the unwashed franks"
