So I have a 1986 4 runner and trying to add a/c, unfortunately mine did not have the dealer added a/c. I purchased a Vintage Air universal kit and have been messing with the under dash blower unit and I canāt find room anywhere under or around the dash even with serious cutting. So I have given up on the Vintage Air kit. And finding all the parts for a āoriginalā style system is near impossible and will cost me far beyond my budget.
What should I do? Any recommendations on getting a/c in my rig? Has anyone put in a kit that fits? Thanks

I had an 88 4Runner in the mid-90s. It was my favorite car of ever owned and I regret selling it. Iām considering getting one as a project car for my 13 year old and I to work on together. Are new, used, and aftermarket parts still easily available?

hey reddit, over the weekend i was blowing up some paddle boards with an electric pump and playing music everything worked great no power cut offs or loss of V. turned the runner off came back a couple hours later and lost all power to clock and radio. checked fuses the 10a under the dash on the driver side is intact. i disconnected my battery and hooked it back up and that seemed to fix it temporarily since now its no longer working. is there something iām missing? been doing some research on the ole google and seeing a lot of people replacing their ignition switches. I thought id ask here before i replaced the ignition switch in case iām on the wrong path. Thanks again guys!!

Got to finish the door panels and the pad across the top then put the rubber back in. Got excited and had to see what they look like

Been asked a few times how I made the rack for the roll bar. Itās just some metal brackets from Home Depot, a bolt through the seat belt holder and a couple self drilling screws. Works great for 1-2 surfboards, 55mph no issues. Iām sure someone could fabricate something better with some scrap metal and a welder.

OK, so as the title goes, Iām looking to find replacement hubcaps for the SR5 wheels with automatic hubs in the front. I have one of the three pictured. Would like to complete the set. So does anyone on Etsy make 3d printed onceās if thatās even possible. Or if I have to buy used which ones fit? Mostly donāt want to buy ones that wonāt fit because I am a doofus.

Itās an ā89, so it has the 6-cylinder engine but the older body style. Is that still considered 1st gen?
I want to pass it along as a parts truck but Iām not sure where to begin. Do folks sell junkers like this on BringaTrailer? Or am I better off just posting on Craigslist or Facebook?
Not looking for much $. Just wanting to split the difference between scrap price and parting it out myself. Thank you for any advice!

Just put an ad a leaf in, you think the alignment clips are needed? OG spring pack clip is still on there just the helper spring and the AAL arnt clipped. Lmk what yall think.

I've read everywhere that the 22re is better, so knowing and understanding that - how bad is the v6 motor? I'm looking at one that has that motor in it, and considering traveling to see it. This would be my first 4 runner - it's low mileage and the did a head gasket repair this year. Seeing all the negative reviews kind of makes me weary/think I should keep looking, but want to hear from those that have had one as well. I have owned old cars before (had a range rover classic I sold before this), so understanding we can always find issues, I'd want this as a "daily" driver, aka 3-4 days a week for 30 min, and sometimes weekender (longer trips).
I could also do a 3.4 swap but given the repair, makes me think I should be fine for a while? Any advice or opinions welcome - thanks everyone!

My son (13) and I are interested in a project truck to work on together. I'm pretty handy but have limited automotive experience - I know how to change oil, have replaced brakes, found and replaced a leaky hose once, stuff like that.
While I'd love to find a Land Cruiser or Defender or something, they're insanely expensive. That led me to the 80s 4Runners which fit the bill for fun and not astronomical for a non-daily driver.
So as the title implies, are the early gen 4Runners relatively straightforward to work on? I'm assuming parts and knowledge are easy to come by since Toyota Trucks are so ubiquitous, but that might be unfounded as well.
Thanks in advance!

I had an 87 4runner about 9 years ago but replaced it with the blue truck in the last picture because a knee injury made it difficult to operate the clutch. With how the prices have gone I just assumed I'd never get another one. this old girl was sitting in a friend's parents driveway for years after the owner passed away. one of my good friends towed it to his house with the intention of bringing it back to life but never found the time. So when he eventually offered it to me for pretty cheap I knew I had to jump on it.
She needs a lot of love, but with only a fluid top off, a new battery and some fuses, and a clutch master and slave cylinders, I was able to drive it the hour it took to get home just fine. I know it's going to be a project, but Im stoked to have a first gen again.

Biggest job Iāve ever done by far! Thank goodness for YouTube and old forums. Sounds much better than it did before.
Started the job because the driver side guide bolts were getting chewed through by the chain. Turns out the tensioner was sticky.
Had a few issues along the way, punched a hole in the radiator taking the harmonic balancer off and misplaced my 12mm socket a couple dozen times but stoked with how itās running today.

Hey yāall. Iāve got an intermittent start issue, and have looked at other threads, but nothing seems to be working so Iām making my own. Picked my runner up in January and it used to start first try every time, but slowly started getting to where it would click but no crank. Over time itās been happening more often. I took her off road recently and now itās happening more than ever. Iāve checked the grounds and cleaned them. Changed the battery. Got 12.4v on the battery, 12.4 to the starter, and 12.4 to ground. Was getting weird lights on the dash so I changed the alternator. Fixed the lights on the dash but Iām still having this issue. I tried cleaning up the contacts in the starter thinking it was a dead spot in the solenoid contacts, but same issue. Anyone got any more suggestions?

Hello all, new noise just happened off startup after work⦠172k on the clock, what could it be? I noticed the lope in the idle and metallic noise. Donāt get me wrong Itās been a talkative engine on start up then simmers down after a minute but this was taken after a drive home. TY
