I provided care to children in public health who were the product of incest, the rates are staggering in the US, ancestry .com has shown the stats recently. I think the media would cover it more but it is just too depressing and editors nix the articles. The children often suffer from horrendous health issues and the mothers were as young as 11. They risk their lives with these forced births, much like the recent case Oklahoma.
1 in 7000 adults are the product of direct relation incest, according to this study. Either a parent and a child, or two full blooded siblings producing a child to adulthood. This number doesn't reflect miscarriages, abortions, or children who passed before adulthood.
Absolutely, but when geneticists reveal it through public health and ancestry sites accidentally, it needs to be reported, (the numbers, not the names or individuals) ,just the anonymous statistics so the public is aware. It is not being discussed as a public health concern and it needs to be.
t's a public health issue and one of the many reasons we need a public health system, Universal Health Care for all. Public schools ,teachers and health care providers are obligated to report physical abuse, this is no different. It's not about rugged individualism, it's about maintaining a civilized society which we deserve. Our tax dollars should be going towards that & not faux military parades and pageantry security.
