Leviacake Week 3 (sets x reps x weight in kgs)

  • Bench 3x80 3x90 3x100 1x110 18,15,12,5x80 (in 8 minutes 30 seconds)
  • DB Press 8,8,8x30
  • BB Skullcrusher 7,7,7x65
  • Cable Overhead Extension 10,10,10x32
  • Iso Lateral Wide Pulldown 8,8,8x150
  • DB Incline Curl 9,9,9x20
  • Cable Curl 13,13,13x33
  • Cable Lateral Raise SS Reverse Fly 2x14x13 SS 2x14x13

Notes: Third week of the block. 50 reps at FSL weights done in 8 minutes 30 seconds (1 minute 30 seconds faster than last week), and with more reps per set than last week. Things seem to be clicking, I'm quite excited. High volume training and high amount of food is really something. Let's hope the positive trend continues.

Hello, I have a couple of questions related to the terms used in the templates in the 5/3/1 Forever book.

  1. Are PR sets generally the last set in the original 5/3/1 sets, or are they different like BBB?
  2. When working up to a Training Max, do you count the sets before the TM set as working sets or not? Do I also have to swap the weights that I use for those said sets every time, or is it fine to keep them constant?
  3. Lastly, when Jim states to do a lift through working up to training max, do I still need to do the original 5/3/1 sets for that lift or would lifting up to TM be its replacement?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Yes, it’s your last main set of the sequence. On fives week is 5 at 65%, 5 at 75%, then a plus set at 85%, for example.

  2. For testing a TM work up to it how ever you feel comfortable. As you approach heavier weights, usually you start making ~10% jumps and keep reps low so not to wear yourself out. I for bench, back in the day before injury, I wound do: 10 w/ bar, 10 at 135, 6 at 185, 5 at 205, 3 at 225, 2 at 245, TM test at 265. If next time it was 275, I wouldn’t change the weights I’m warming up with until after about >200lbs. So it might go 185-210-230-255-275.

  3. TM tests are essentially a replacement of your 5/3/1 work that day. Some programs do have a more regimented approach to building up to your TM. And you can still do some supplement or assistance work.  Usually supplement work on TM test days is pretty easy, like a first set last. Since those are often done in deload weeks as you start a cycle the next week.

Ok did another cycle. How do you think I should progress? These are my amraps:

Date Lift Weight(lbs) Reps 8/16/2025 OHP 125 6 8/13/2025 BP 190 8 8/11/2025 SQ 230 9 8/9/2025 OHP 120 7 8/6/2025 BP 180 11 8/4/2025 SQ 220 10 8/1/2025 OHP 110 10 7/30/2025 BP 170 14 7/28/2025 SQ 205 12

I am thinking add 10 to SQ and DL (I don't AMRAP DL but they felt ok), 5 to bench. Do you think I should deload or stay same wt on OHP?

I'd just add weight using the default (5 lbs for upper body, 10 lbs for lower body) assuming that I'm getting stronger. If you fail a set you fail a set sometime later it's OK, just reduce the TM and move on.

Ok so use failing sets as a trigger for reducing TM?

What I meant was that when you get below the minimal number of reps you're supposed to get (and you're sure it was not just having a bad day) then you can either decrease your TM or test it to see where you're at.

So like 1 rep on 95% day?

Yeah that's what I'd do. But it's unlikely to happen too often if you're testing your TMs during the 7th weeks.

If you are set on the assistance schedule I would do upper, lower, push, pull.

Why not do PPL for accessories? Like it's written in the book
