Is there any variation of BBB that allows me to do 50 REPS instead of 5x10? I feel like i can hit 50 reps but not 5x10 bench 57.5 or 60kg. So I feel like if I just do 8,9,8,7,5 reps etc then extra set or two, would that work?

Yes, Beyond has BBB Rule of 50 which is just that.

I tried to find it in the book, could you quote me on it very kindly? I tried finding it and will try to look again on the rules.
Edit: looking at it now, would the rest times need to be much shorter, or I shouldn't overthink the micro and focus on macro instead

People work it differently. Some people bag out near max effort sets, then rest 3-5 minutes before the next set, and try to knock it out in the fewest amounts of sets. Some others "game it" leaving reps in the tank each set, and try for fewest sets that way. Others go for broke and do rest pause and don't mind ending up doing 10 sets of 3 reps at the end with 30 second rest, trying to get 50 reps ad fast as possible. I. Sure all the strategies have their benefits, just get the reps as you can.

so as long i get 50 reps should be fine? people on this sub always say if its not 5x10, my TM is too high

531 is kind of a living, breathing philosophy, so it's always hard to give , or take, advice without a whole bunch of context.
Saying if you can't do 5x10 at the first working set weight then you're TM is too high applies to a lot of cases. If you are doing 5x10 at 50% TM and can't do it then yeah, TM is too high. If you are doing 5x10 at fsl and nail it on 5s week and 3s week, but go 9,9,8,7,6 on the 1s week, after nailing your main work, then you might be OK. This situation is perfect for RULE OF 50 where you just get the reps in any way you can, even if you hit 14, 12, 12, 10, 2 (or more) on 5s week. Don't sweat the small stuff, get the volume in. That said, 531 has proven that you can make gains at submaximal weights so if you can't hit 5x10, it likely would not hurt to lower the TM. Like I said though, there is a lot of context that needs to be considered for blanket suggestions, but lowering TM a little bit is typically not bad advice in the 531 system.

Actually I just noticed my BBB are SSL.... that's why I cant do them fully properly, and why im probably seeing a fast improvement in gains!
I will try to go back a few KG and see if that helps and go again, thank you again for this.

So you've been trying to do 5x10 at 75%, 80%, and 85% of TM on your 5s, 3s, and 1s (respectively) weeks? Sounds pretty tough! I've done BBS (10x5) for press up to 85% of TM.

Yes I'm pretty sure it was a challenge, except also my 5/3/1s were also actually SSL 5s. Actually instead of just 55KG for reps, I did 57.5 or 60kg. That's why I most likely failed some reps.
Definitely need to do BBS. Totally forgot about that and only did it for assistance, good idea!

Personally I would apply the 20 minute rule from BBB and BBS. Theoretically, if you aren’t pushing as close to failure with smaller sets you won’t need as long to recover.
Another option would be to do:
Week 1: 3x10 Week 2: 4x10 Week 3: 5x10

If the issue is your conditioning this will let you build into it.

Also I realised Im doing SSL, not FSL or 50% for BBB. totally forgot to mention that if that changes anything

Yep, it's what I'm currently doing for my upper body lifts (see my post history), and I like it. I also like Jim's suggestion of timing the whole thing, and trying to improve the time in which you manage to get your 50 total reps.
