Thursday Discussion Thread

Great place for team discussion/whatever Serie A related topics you would like to bring up. Examples: Transfers, rumors, players from other teams, things you miss about the old days etc. Whatever you want as long as it isn't too off-topic.

Also a good spot to ask about the stadium, the city of Milano, bars, fan clubs in your city etc.

Here are some important links for new members:

I am still hyperfocused on the issue with the Curva Sud, and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, a known Milan fan, keeps speaking up about it:

"I'd like all the fans, non-violent ones of course, to be able to cheer again. San Siro without the stands isn't San Siro. Keeping criminals, drug dealers, and hooligans out of stadiums for life, yes, but not allowing a flag, a scarf, a drum, or microphones for chants into the stadium, no.

AC Milan at home without its fans isn't AC Milan, just like Inter and the other teams. I hope the clubs have the will to kick out the violent ones, but without losing the most fervent and colorful support. Many come to San Siro to hear the chants, also because that year there wasn't much to see on the pitch; what was more interesting was what was seen off the pitch."

The irony of this statement being that he was notoriously photographed a few years back as clearly being well-acquainted with Luca Lucci, the former leader of the Curva Sud and the worst-of-the worst of the "criminals, drug dealers, and hooligans."

It all seems like a very bad attempt on dividing the curva from within, making them almost ‘abandon’ the criminals in order to make a deal with the club for the ‘good ones’ at least.

Which on paper is not the worst thing to do if you want to clean the house, but the way they’re going around it is so bad.

It's not, though. The blacklisted people are not criminals, they just protested against the club/management. They are still allowed to buy season tickets elsewhere, just not in the Curva Sud. Although they can buy tickets for individual matches in the Curva Sud, if they are available. They're not criminals, they just protested against Gerald. And the Curva are 100% standing in solidarity with them. As are other Ultras now, too.

It's not about criminals. It's about the shift of power.

The clubs are trying to silence anyone who speaks out against them. They want complete control over the stadium so no one complains when they raise ticket prices, or kick out the vendors, or whatever nefarious things they plan to do next. Organized fans are very problematic for "monetizing the fans."

The local authorities... the good guys genuinely have a lot less work if opposing fans are not gathering like this in the stadiums and traveling around the country. The corrupt ones are those with mafia ties or whatever who are trying to gain access/money/power in the stadium as the criminals have been kicked out. But who polices them? (the answer is no one.) The police in Italy can be worse criminals than the Ultras, FYI in terms of violence and corruption.

Meanwhile, the other 95%+ of the Ultras who are genuinely there to enjoy the friendships they've made and be part of this amazing thing called organized support - chants, flags, banners, making the best coreografia in the world... they are being punished (as are the team and rest of the world) because our ownership doesn't want anyone to say mean things about them in the stadium.

If you saw and heard the traveling Curva Sud vs. Lecce & the way they sang to our team, especially after the win, and contrast it with our eery, grey, silent home matches, where all you could hear were the away fans, you'll get it.
