Some Crows fans have expressed their disgust at fellow supporters who booed Isaac Quaynor on Thursday night.

Some fans said they would consider not renewing their membership next year over a perceived lack of action from the club.

It appears most wouldn't be happy until Rankine is publicly tarred and feathered and the Crows are kicked out of the comp.

No, people just want the approach by the club to not be absolutely piss-week.

And are apparently choosing to express this opinion by directing a never-ending torrent of hate towards the club, the player and the fans. Seems like a reasonable response.

I think judging a person or organisation on their actions is the most reasonable response. Wanting your own club to do better and represent the best of you rather than the worst is the better way to go. Most people haven't said anything personal but are directing ire towards an organisation that is tacitly agreeing with homophobia. If they were stronger against it they would have knocked the crowd's behaviour down. They weren't so it stoked some flames.

I appreciate the optimism but there is no way even the most hard lined response from the club would impact the views of a vocal minority in the crowd. Refer to the Adam Goodes saga as proof. The booing was publicly condemned by the AFL and clubs alike and yet the booing continued to the point that an all time great of the game hung up his boots. Morons will do what they want regardless of the club response.

I agree with you that it wouldn’t have eliminated the booing (might have minimised it though), but surely a hard lined response from the club might have gone a long way towards the LGBQTI+ fan base and players feeling psychologically safe and valued by a club that they love?

so let's just accept good people being forced out of the game by bigots then.

No. The club is getting continuous hate because their response to this saga has been fucked every step of the way. Here's what most people expect:

  • Accept the Rankine ban, like every other club did when this happened.

  • Send him on the off-season holiday early after having him front the media and his AFL/AFLW teammates to apologise - instead of sending out multiple players, including the Captain, out to front the media because he failed to.

  • Have the coach strongly condemn he booing of IQ when asked, multiple times, in the presser. And, put out a statement strongly condemning it the next day.

Agree with your second point and as I said in my original post the Crows have failed dismally in this regard, Rankine should have fronted the media immediately. On your first point it is incumbent on the club to attempt to reduce the ban given the stakes and they are entitled to due process. Our legal system is literally built on this principle which is why criminals have the right to legal representation in court. This is not a deflection of guilt, rather to ensure that any punishment is not manifestly excessive. And on your last point the Crows released a statement condemning the booing earlier today, it appears you missed it.

The punishment was fair given previous offenses, The defence they used was laughable, and the afl is a joke for lowering it. Just because you are "entitled" to something doesnt mean i may have negative ripple effects, its not that hard to understand. Crows should have shut the fuck up, done some minumal pr and been done with it. Instead theyve shit the bed.

you can plead guilty in court and accept your punishment champ

Yes you can plead guilty but literally the only reason you would is to avoid trial and accept a more lenient sentence/plea agreement. You’re not making the point you think you are.

so Rankine could have admitted he did it, and accepted his punishment, instead of the crows trying to make pathetic excuses about him being antagonised and his mental health :)

glad you're finally starting to understand how utterly fkd the Crows handling of this issue has been
