Information Here's a look at the stars of the upcoming The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender animated movie, from Steven Yeun as Zuko to Eric Nam as Aang to Dave Bautista as an unannounced villain.

Batista should’ve played Toph tbh. It’s more accurate.
He will def be the boulder

Wish they went with the original cast.. or at least some of the original cast if some of the original cast didn't or couldn't come back

I don’t know about everyone else, but I know Tophs voice actor said she would love to come back, but she was not contacted for the opportunity

It really hurts my soul, it gives me a bad feeling about the vibes of the characters. I would've gotten it if there were new characters but the original voices were perfect. It's so disrespetful for the OG voices who carried on the Avatar legacy in every conversation and convention (Basco lived as Zuko come on)
I hate it.

I'm really having trouble with the idea of anyone but Dante Basco as Zuko.

Same. I think what happened is that they decided to replace at least the non-diverse actors because of how Hollywood is these days, but then to not make the excluded ones feel too bad they just decided to replace all of them.

Which shows the hiprocacy of the entire thing, then they should've fired themselves for being white and appropriating Asian culture or make the third show entirely based on white culture if that's the mindset.
It's so dumb, just get the best voice for the job, or the voices we grew up with, cause you know, we are gonna be the main demographic watching it.

And this is why I have absolutely no intrest in seeing this movie. At least with Korra thwy had the excuse of taking place decades later (30 years later in the flashbacks and 80 years later in the series).

I think they will try some cringe fan service in the show, but using the original cast would have been huge for fans. Especially with how involved they’ve been after the original show.

It sounds like the rhetoric of va's needing to be the ethnicity of the character they are voicing. As this was initially in the works during that whole shit storm. The movie was delayed a lot since then.
But it all falls on the VA. If they still sound like how they did in AtLab I can see them wanting to choose a different VA. But skilled VAs can still manipulate their voice to at least make it sound older.

WTF why are they changing Zuko?!

u/CurrentEmu6316 Jul 29 '25
Right? Dante Bosco’s voice is so distinct, It’ll be strange to hear Zuko with a different voice.

My boyfriend is gonna watch the show with me just because of him! He'll finally be interested in more than one episode😅

He should have the same VA.

Ok good. I was confused since I had thought they were keeping the og for Zuzu.

u/SuccessfulBrilliant7 Jul 30 '25
They had to reset otherwise it wouldn’t have been fair that’s my theory

u/Chill0000 Jul 30 '25
I already didn’t like that majority of the cast wasn’t going to be coming back, but the fact that they are replacing, Dante is crazy. He has the most iconic memorable voice of any of the cast members Zuko is Dante.

Sparky Sparky Boom Man?

Welp. He's gotta live to have a child somehow.
How many lines is he even gonna do though

Honestly, I’m disappointed the directors don’t understand their fans who have been dedicated for 20 years. That’s more than enough time to simply understand something as basic as original child characters being repurposed for the adult characters, now that they’re grown too. What even would be the reason for recasting Dante Basco as Zuko?!

why do they all have such long heads. i don’t think your head shape changes that much from childhood 😭

Interesting. So with Román Zaragoza in the movie and Utkarsh Ambudkar in the Netflix series, Avatar shares at least two cast members with Ghosts. Maybe I should check that show out…

Weird to not use the old cast especially they already had voice actors for the older versions as well. Not to shit on the chosen actors but just an odd choice. Was this the movie the creators got thrown out of making? Or was it the other show?

it might be petty but i honestly have lost most of my interest in the series with how they handled the voice cast. there was honestly no reason to replace any of the voice cast, they even could've got the original aang voice actor back to voice grown up aang.
and frankly, steven yeun being in this feels very strange, zuko will now just sound like wan, which is strange.

Does anyone else think Zuko’s face looks off? Something about the proportions I think

I feel like they’re using voice actors that could play the same characters in live action in the future
