You don’t investigate the fire while you’re still in the burning building. They could have discussed it after the invasion but the show needed the time for other things.

Bc there was no time and it didn’t matter.

Aang flew back, told them their plan was spoiled and the fire nation capitol was empty, they pulled together plan B, got their butts handed to them by azula and the air brigade then they had to retreat to the western air temple. At no point did Sokka have time to stop and ask that question. And by the time they were at the WAT, it didn’t matter bc the invasion was over.

IMO, it was only after rescuing Suki from the Boiling Rock did Sokka put together what happened on the day of black sun and how they failed

It’s been a while, do we ever get to know who leaked the plan (it’s been a while please be kind)

The earth king told Azula while she was under cover as a Kyoshi Warrior in Ba Sing Se

Ohhh yeahhhh I forgot that detail too. The earth king is a bit forgettable tbh

It wasn't important, he didn't focus on the leak because it didn't matter. What mattered after was escaping, then coming up with a new plan. After they escaped, they pretty quickly ended up getting his dad and Suki back, and I'm assuming Suki probably filled him in and could piece together what happened after Azula took her place.

Didn’t they straight up tell it to the Dai Lee guy whose name I forgot, and he later became part of Azula’s team? I thought that was how

The Earth King directly told Azula, Mei, and Ty Lee while they were disquised that his generals were planning an invasion on the day of a solar eclipse.

Honestly, it probably came down to the Earth King's incompetence in not telling the gaang he had done that once he found out that they weren't the real Kyoshi warriors.

I feel like Katara being captured with the latest plans on her person was way more informative to Azula than whatever the Earth King let slip.

And that's not even mentioning all of the other officials involved in the invasion that were captured or betrayed the Earth Kingdom

Ohhh yea, good point. I don't think I ever connected that she got captured while coming from a meeting with the generals.

Because she thought that it would be a good idea to take a detour to attend a diplomatic tea party with His Highness Lord Momo of the Momo Dynasty first 🤦🏽‍♀️

Oh I forgot about that, thats probably how then.

I always figured the Ozai just assumed he needed to hide himself and those closest to him when the eclipse was happening as he knew he would be at a disadvantage

The Earth King told Azula about the plan.

Which was bad, but rather small when put against other things like Katara being captured by Azula with the latest plans on her person, all of the officials involved in the plan being captured, and the Dai Li Secret Police betraying the Earth Kingdom

2

u/LordAmir5 4d ago

I'd say it's what made them look for it. But I guess the Dai Li would still tell her.

The idea is that Ozai and the fire nation did not have any information that the eclipse was going to happen. Had they not been told, it would have been a typical day, and would have been surprised and powerless.

I mean, with even a moment to think, it's obvious how.

They already know Azula infiltrated the city.

And even then, the Fire Nation probably keep track of when there'll be an eclipse since it's such a security risk and have the Fire Lord hide anyway.

If you’re referring to the actual invasion then it’s simply because there was no time they were pressing the attack until the air fleet appeared and then they had to retreat. To be fair tho at that point it didn’t really matter how it got leaked and figuring out why wasn’t going to fix anything

The ultimate sin in leadership is focusing on what should have happened instead of figuring out what to do about it now. During the invasion there’s nothing they can do about the leak other than adapt their plan and shortly after the discovery Azula confirms she took Suki prisoner when Ba Sing Se fell.

He could figure out if someone outed them and who so they can disacostiate

There was no way to know about the leak until the Gaang invaded the Fire Nation and of course by then it’s too late. Aang had to go to the capital to see it deserted, that was the only way the Gaang could know. When he returns Sokka immediately realizes what happened since Sokka says ‘they knew!’ when Aang tells the rest of them that the city is empty.

By the time the Gaang finds out, they have bigger problems to worry about than trying to figure out how the plan got leaked. They have hundreds of soldiers and even friends to worry about getting out instead, and as shown, it’s only the children and youngest of the invasion group who get away. The rest end up as POWs.

Well let's see, they had the entire invasion plan shared in the earth kingdom among various generals and government officials.

Said individuals were captured and possibly interrogate to get the information Seems logical in hindsight.

Just the info on the eclipse alone would be more than enough.

What was their to figure out, azula told him they had known about their plan for some time. Sokka knew she had suki prisoner as well and had pretending to be kyoshi warriors. Pretty easy to go from there and assume the king had told the “kyoshi warriors. The better question is why nobody killed the king for not just revealing this to them but not saying anything to the gaang after! Drives me insane fuck that king

1

u/BlackRaptor62 4d ago

I mean, putting aside all of the important Earth Kingdom officials that also knew about the invasion and were captured or betrayed the Earth Kingdom, Katara was also captured with the latest plans on her person.

That was probably way more consequential.

If I’m correct Azula found out about the plan when undercover as the kiyoshi warriors in bang sing sae and knew about the invasion plan still

2

u/capsrock02 4d ago

Because they learned it wasn’t the real Kyoshi Warriors in Ba Seng Sai so they probably figured out the earth king told them

1

u/EmeraldMaster538 4d ago

Was it really leaked? The fire nation would probably know able the day of black sun and keep records of when it would happen. And being at constant war it makes sense they’d prep for the day they were the most vulnerable.

1

u/LordDedionware Fire 4d ago

Yes, it was, by the earth king, when Azula infultrated Ba Sing Se.

2

u/EmeraldMaster538 4d ago

Oh forgot about that

1

u/LordDedionware Fire 4d ago

Probably because he's not an idiot and figured that it got leaked when Azula literally infiltrated the earth kingdom and started a cue that allowed her to conquer Ba Sing Se.😑

1

u/Martinus_XIV 4d ago

He probably thought they tortured it out of Suki. I don't think he knew she was captured before she ever set foot in Ba Sing Se to receive the plans. Maybe he thought Azula, Mai and Ty Lee had taken on the guise of the Kyoshi Warriors only after they infiltrated Ba Sing Se...

1

u/OrlinWolf 4d ago

Didn’t Azula confess that she’s known all along?

1

u/Snoo_75864 4d ago

why would he do that

1

u/slick447 4d ago

No use in crying over spilled milk

After the end of book 2 Fire nation thought that Aang died and they weren't suspecting big offensive, they knew someone might try to attack Ozai, but not avatar or earth kingdom, traitors might try to kill firelord with weapons, so royal family stayed hidden during eclipse. In conlusion they knew about eclipse rather than invasion itself, but I may be missing something.

1

u/Certain-Echo2481 2d ago

What did it matter at that point?

1

u/Vitamindoughnuts 2d ago

I'm surprised he didn't realize once he knew the Kiyoshi warriors were being impersonated by azula at the Earth Kingdom.
