Discussion Who else is sick of ads?

I've had Amazon prime for about 10 years now. I havent used it much in the last 2 or so years. I come back today and now everything i try to watch has ads? I know this has been standard for other streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, etc... but when is enough enough? Between ads and annual membership price increases, we're basically just coming back full circle to having a cable subscription. Ill be canceling soon as Im not a huge fan of having garbage ads shoved down my throat at every scene change in a film or TV show.

Paying them an extra 10¢ a day is worth it to have ad-free Prime.

I don't understand why people have a problem with paying such a small amount of money at $3 a month when this would prevent ads from littering their programming. You get what you pay for.

Well the funny part is I pay 136$ a year for Amazon Prime...I have to pay an additional 2.99 to not have ads is just scam!

It is dumb! And mades me think all they care about is more money even as the price of prime went up -_-

We do pay in Germany 89,90 euro 💶 😳 and an additional 2.99 for not having ads. 136 💵 i would say it is to much ☹️

Yes it is! It was worth it when Prime used to be 119 or some odd per year if I remember USD

Oh, I already knew that all they care about is money, I just find it funny how blatant they are with their nickle and diming. For one of the wealthiest companies in the world, they really just can't help themselves. They've gotta take more and more.

Welcome to the Age of Enshittification!

They gave us all kinds of great stuff for free (or bribed us to try), and now that "most people" are doing things online... we get less and less for the same or more money.

Exactly! 🤣

You remember when they first released the option for paying for no ads and it didn't work for months but they sure didn't mind raking in the money

They added ads about a year ago. It’s $3 to remove them, which is cheaper than any other service.

While that's an insignificant amount of money, considering I paid about $8/month 10 years ago, and now I'm paying double that for even LESS of a service, and have to tack on another nearly %50 of my original subscription price just to remove ads is hilarious! I guess Jeff has to recoup some of those wedding costs!

It's all Jassy now. He sucks as a CEO he's made Amazon worker life crap as well.

He's been the one pushing everything and not doing Cost of living increases network wide

Not me. I don't love ads, but they're still so much fewer than they were when I watched cable TV! I don't pay for Prime for Prime Video. Prime Video is just a bonus, so I'm okay with the ads.

Yeah for now, in a few years you might say "well its only the same amount of ads as cable tv." These companies only go one way, which is increasing revenue. They are never going to reduce ads, only increase them over time.

Yeah, that probably true, sadly.

I use the built-in player on my smart TV (a Vizio) and it almost never shows ads on the same content where my Apple TV shows a ton of them.

Of course it kinda sucks, but I would rather not see the ads.

Not me. I pay the $3 for no ads. Just watched an older tv show. With ads gone, a 60 minute show is 40 minutes.

I like no ads by paying just under $3 a month. It's not like it's $30 a month.

3$ now...until they raise it because they can

So you pay for Prime, but you don't actually order anything from Amazon to take advantage of free delivery?

1

u/PeterCanopyPilot 2d ago

I do, and yes, I order from Amazon every now and again, but not very often anymore. Also, this discussion was aimed at the streaming service, hence why it's in the AmazonPrimeVideo subreddit.

The point that everyone is missing is that you don't pay for Amazon Prime Video. Nothing. Zip. Nada. Therefore, you don't get to moan about ads. If you want an ad free service, stump up the cash

Actually I do pay for it. I pay $15/ month for it, so your comment is irrelevant.

Plus paying for Amazon Prime separately? Are you sure...

no one who pays to not see them.

I could care less. I use it for the free 1 to 2 day shipping. The videos are just perks.

1

u/JohnnyBravo801 1d ago

Not really free if you pay 139$ per year for it..hopefully you order enough to offset the cost

I do. My primary source of shopping. Only go to the mall for new eyeglasses.

No one likes ads, but I'm a lot more sick about the amount of people in this sub constantly whining about them.
