Likely drunk and thinking they are hilarious

u/Everything_Computer 10d ago

Mmm, epic edgelords. The world awes 🙄

u/Ning_Yu 10d ago

I was actually thinking edgy teenagers (also thinking they're hilarious)

If there was real justice in the world - after ripping out the Petunias a whale should have landed on them.

u/WolflingWolfling 10d ago

"Oh no, not again!"

26

u/sethx [Centrum] 10d ago

But not before realizing it was falling

1

u/Captain-Sha 10d ago

Good one lmao.

Let them realize and fear first!

7

u/Shoddy_Wrongdoer_559 10d ago

I see what you did there

12

u/DarkTeaTimes 10d ago

"Many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the nature of the universe than we do now.” OK. So you're saying you're smarter than a bowl of petunias. I find that hard to believe my friend.

Wait… is this a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy reference?

Oh but we should start putting names to things...

Unfortunately people like this exist.

On another bridge in centrum, where flowerboxes are planted and maintained by volunteers, tourists pulled the plants out with force and threw them all into the canal. Witnesses couldn't stop them.

11

u/sethx [Centrum] 10d ago

Sad :(

2

u/AtlasNL 7d ago

Throw the tourists in the canal. Opgeruimd staat netjes.

17

u/Candy-Macaroon-33 10d ago

Where is the Ring footage when you need it

1

u/Schtaive 8d ago

Must have snuck in through the back.

17

u/Particular_Concert81 Amsterdammer 9d ago

Just the average British stag party tourist.

-2

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Good they domit here then. Been to holiday places where such Brits and Dutch are equally despised. Like this we keep it amongst eachother. I'd say,,report such and give them a travel ban, so to not disgrace their nation abroad. Then they can only misbehave where they are known. Not be an export product of such.

53

u/Megaminisima 10d ago

The NL has no consequence for bad behavior. It’s obvious in situations like this. Could have just as much been an assaulted woman and there would be a lot of words about the terrible situation, but no action.

21

u/One-Confusion-33 10d ago

This is unfortunately true. There's far too little enforcement. Not that it should become a police state, but this is heading in the wrong direction.

3

u/Megaminisima 10d ago

No idea why you’re down voted

-1

u/One-Confusion-33 10d ago

It probably isn't Amsterdam-like enough. Some would rather see things destroyed than have more control.

2

u/Bon-Bon-Boo 9d ago

Ah, so if a person is seen doing this, then someone can kick them in the nuts with no consequences? Copied and understood.

2

u/Megaminisima 9d ago

Just yell “doet normaal” while kicking them and it cancels out the assault /s

2

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Dutch dropped the t after doe in that form.

1

u/davideo71 Knows the Wiki 9d ago

And yet, this stuff also happens in places where people get punished severely. Is it worse here than it is in countries where teenagers get the death penalty? I too like to rule the world from my underbelly, but does that actually make for a better place?

Plenty of people are assholes and idiots, that's not going to change. Better to accept that fact and mitigate consequences for society. Sometimes that means locking them up, but mostly that means replanting the flowers and appreciating that you're not like them.

5

u/misbehavingwolf 10d ago

Just rest knowing that whoever did this likely has a pretty shitty life right now and this is a sign.

2

u/Stefanmplayer 7d ago

That’s no way to speak about your mayor😅

u/ValuableOwn151 9d ago

I only noticed the banana peel on the ground lol

If i were to make a guess: hazing season

15

u/Ch_Ams 10d ago

the fraternities are not destructuve to public property only to themselves. . . This cunt has anger and hate towards beauty, nature and goodness.

17

u/Feeling-Building9072 10d ago

Last time I saw frat bros with their slick back geld up blonde hair was breaking and throwing random shit at the walls so no

-19

u/Ch_Ams 10d ago

Sounds like you have an issue with blond hair there buddy... if they were breaking something it was theirs to break. The fraternity code is very clear on respecting the city and public property.

12

u/sethx [Centrum] 10d ago

You mean strict for everything except for calling women sperm buckets? Stfu

-7

u/Ch_Ams 9d ago

Like every group you have good guys and bad guys. Just like not all muslims are terrorists darling.

5

u/[deleted] 10d ago

Wonder why such is even in the code? And still some will. Age, alcohol, things happen. Just a risk age group for such. We are not even an unique species in that sense.

-5

u/Ch_Ams 10d ago edited 9d ago

Same reason the boyscouts have a code and the army and the policy, religions, sportclubs and even the post office.... its formative its discipline. Its branding. It's what am organisation stands for.

4

u/DeHarigeTuinkabouter 10d ago

What exactly are you basing that on? Never seen hazing involve acts like this. Lmao my frat would have them replant every flower and clean the bridge

5

u/cowgary Knows the Wiki 10d ago

Probably because this was next to the university and they had a big party this weekend

4

u/DeHarigeTuinkabouter 10d ago

Just dumbass students then. Hazing generally doesn't happen at university parties. Heck the kind of people who are in frats probably aren't as likely to be at uni parties in general.

1

u/Ch_Ams 9d ago

It's amazing to see how people are speculating about who the cunt is who did this.... everyone is showing their bias.... its tourists, its frat boys, its muslims, its white people, its women, its drunk people.... great experiment for having people share their (not so secret) bias!

7

u/sethx [Centrum] 9d ago

Maybe it was you

0

u/Ch_Ams 9d ago

Yes yes .... the me bias.... get in line darling.

2

u/nico87ca 9d ago

Just listing the usual suspects doesn't necessarily mean you're bias though.

Like I doubt a father and his 7yo walked out at 2am to pull out flowers.

-1

u/Ch_Ams 9d ago

Isn't it though? What is the expectation of a group being a usual suspect based on? Fact or bias?

As a matter of fact a portion of vandalism is committed by otherwise seemingly upright citizens that think they can get away with it. Psychologically it is an outlet for such individuals to cut loose from the rigidity of following rules and doing the right thing all the time ( much like trolls on redit). Further more - Who says it happened at 2am? Lots of assumptions here.... are they fact or bias driven?

0

u/gothammutt 8d ago

I’ll play along … my first thought was “bored teens”. But I’m NYC biased. We generally don’t have issues with tourists, frat boys, Muslims, etc, etc, etc.

1

u/Impossible-Event9802 9d ago

Drunk tourist...

1

u/Interesting-Work1199 8d ago

as a british person... this was 100% a british tourist 🙃

1

u/automatikiss 8d ago

Just saw it further at weesperstraat too

1

u/Polly_der_Papagei 7d ago

Put them back, they might still survive

1

u/sethx [Centrum] 7d ago

No chance sadly. They are straight cut and ripped at the stem, not uprooted

1

u/NaeNae_76 7d ago

Wow 😳

1

u/ShinbiDesigns 7d ago

Special kind? We have folks stealing flowers from GRAVES and MEMORIALS in this country

1

u/Successful_Age8653 9d ago

That person needs help, if found.

Maybe some drunk tourist did this in the middle of the night

-1

u/Substantial_Try_616 10d ago

We are legit turning into America if this keeps up with how soft our laws are. People can just destroy stuff and run away and there is nothing victims can do about it.

3

u/ninasmolders 9d ago

Americas laws are to soft for yeh is that what yer saying?

0

u/TheSerpingDutchman 10d ago

Als het voor het goeie doel gebeurt is ook dit geoorloofd.

0

u/EuphoricProposal7567 7d ago

Please don’t put this on the internet. Some fools may interpret this as a fun challenge.

1

u/sethx [Centrum] 7d ago

You must be the same kind of people who is against video games and porn

I’ll tell you what: the internet is free. You are on a platform created by someone who literally died for that.

Fuck you sideways

0

u/EuphoricProposal7567 7d ago

Yeah. So cool. The internet.

1

u/sethx [Centrum] 7d ago

So cool. Now eat shit

u/alxwx Knows the Wiki 10d ago

We call them tourists

16

u/Jaseto88 10d ago

Have you seen how some students and teenagers behave?

4

u/some_person_212 10d ago

Never mind that, have you seen how boomers behave?

-19

u/Single-Astronomer-32 10d ago

Did you also make a picture after you put it back?

5

u/sethx [Centrum] 10d ago

The plants are cut and ripped, not uprooted. So this is a total loss.

-19

u/Single-Astronomer-32 10d ago

Just putting it back and cleaning up the mess would have been more helpful then complaining on Reddit. Next to that most of the plants would live on fine.

10

u/Megaminisima 10d ago

And here we have an example of the problem in society. A person points out a problem and then is held to the same regard as the criminal. If I see someone kick a dog and I say “you’re kicking a dog” am I to blame as much as the animal abuser? Fuck off u/Single-Astronomer-32

-17

u/Single-Astronomer-32 10d ago

It’s fine to point it out and it’s nice to do something yourself once while. Just something nice when nobody is looking. Mind your language btw.

8

u/Megaminisima 10d ago

Go plant a bush

-5

u/Single-Astronomer-32 10d ago

In would re-plant those geraniums if I was around

11

u/sethx [Centrum] 10d ago

Its on weesperstraat next to wework. Go do it yourself

2

u/ninasmolders 9d ago

Are you seriously telling someone to mind their language .... on reddit?!

Kanker op

2

u/dontcoructmygramar 9d ago

5

u/barryhakker Knows the Wiki 10d ago

-3

u/Single-Astronomer-32 10d ago

And what is your opinion on this subject?

-31

u/chiefzer Zuid 10d ago

Wondering if others think these smell bad, especially when it has rained. Sometimes I cycle/walk past those flowers and they smell rancid.

11

u/flamboyantbutterfly Knows the Wiki 10d ago

It’s probably petunias that have a specific smell after it rains, it reminds me of my childhood because my mom loves them

2

u/TiRoDo Knows the Wiki 10d ago

You get a lot of hate and downvotes, but around this time of year these flowers start smelling like a wet dog. People Should give them a smell next time they walk by.

Earlier in the year they smell lovely.

The person that did this is, is still an idiot though
