I just want to preface this by saying i am in no way homophobic nor do I even really care about it, im just curious, why does the AOS lore subreddit have the pride flag, as I dont see the correlation to AOS. For pride month I can see the reasoning but is there a particular reason outside of June?

Greetings, salutations, and infinite ridings Realmwalkers and those from beyond! So one of the more interesting things about Chaos in Age of Sigmar is that the Big Four, the Brothers in Darkness, the Dark Gods of Chaos are now Five.

Admittedly Great Horned Rat was presented as such in AoS's First Edition. But it is here in Fourth Edition where they are really hyping it up, and setting up Hashut to potentially make it an even Big Six.

So what do all you folk who are into 40K and AoS, or even just 40K, think of this sort of big shift. Especially with 40K's own push to changing the Pantheon teased with Vashtorr?

I know Khorne's the god of wanton slaughter and bloodshed, but as far as I understand it he values true, (relatively) even combat between fellow warriors more than anything else. With that combined with the fact that casualties on both sides leads to more blood and skulls than casualties on just one, would a warband of Khorne prefer to invade an armed city of Sigmar over invading an undefended one?

For the model and tabletop side of things the answers seem somewhat obvious. The models are neat and games are fun.

But for those of you who went further, deciding to learn about this cosmos of arcane worlds, what got you to do so?

What about the lore sets it apart or makes it similar to the Warhammer setting you started with?

This is inspired by the post made by u/Caffeine_Forge just yesterday. Now of course by the nature of misconception, technically you wouldn't have it if you knew it was one. So there may be some false positives.

So for the game the idea is simple. You state something you think might be a misconception, misunderstanding, or incomplete picture on your part. Then wait for other community members to give you the details or confirm if what you know is actually true.

Take shots in the dark if you want or be bold, type a misconception you know others have that you know the correction for but fish for others to answer. Self-sacrifice for the sake of truth and knowledge!

What makes Nagash’s connection to the lore of death magic different than the others?

Semi related, where’s the line drawn between natural undead and nagash corrupted undead?

Not sure about eye early lore on skaven in the old world. Were they always chaos aligned? They seem more like actual rats given intelligence, which to me seems more like a primal force akin to the destruction factions.

I see that they also match with beastmen, which are chaos, but beast men are all animals mushed together, whereas skaven are just rats.

Hey all, just been getting into AoS over the last year, and I've collected a few spearheads to try and lure my friends into a casual game now and then.

Anyway, I like our matches to have at least a little bit of narrative behind them, and I was wondering - why would a Cities of Sigmar force end up fighting Stormcast Eternals? Ideally reasons where the Cities force isn't just corrupt or evil, where both sides are somewhat justified in their actions.

Let's say the big Orruks, not the kruleboyz because they are sadistic freaks.

If a warband of Orruks were to attack a village, and there's a bunch of elderly, women and children that surrender, what is their fate? Is there a possibility for mercy? They wouldn't be fun to fight, would the Orruks just leave, given they don't usually settle in places

Another question is what faction would do such a thing? I presume most death factions wouldn't, and most chaos wouldn't either, maybe except darkoath raiders

Are the “8 Incarnates” (Nagash, Sigmar, Tyrion/Teclis, Malerion, Alarielle, Grimnir, Grungni, and Gorkamorka) still considered a thing in current Age of Sigmar lore?

Back in the early AoS days they seemed like the top-tier deities outside of Chaos, but now we’re seeing a lot of other gods rise in prominence—Valaya, Hashut, Kragnos, Morathi, etc. They don’t feel like “lesser gods” anymore, which makes me wonder: is the whole “Incarnates” concept still relevant in the lore, or has it kind of been replaced by the newer pantheon structures?

I always thought of them in 3 different ranks. 1. Chaos gods 2. Incarnates (tied to a realm. 3. Lesser gods. And i hate it if its not a thing anymore, (probably because of autism or something) i like it when everything exists within frames.

So again do the 8 incarnates have anything unique anymore?

Hi, so I just watched the review show a few minutes ago, and while I am SUPER HYPED for the release of the chorfs, I am a bit confused. It seemed like during the show they were hinting at the fact that Hashut is now one of the old ancestor gods, which I wouldn’t have that much of a problem with, if he wasn’t already established to be a minor chaos god in fantasy. So what is he, is he a sixth chaos god, is he a renegade ancestor god, is he some mixture of both, or is he some fourth thing like Morghur or the Slaanesh twins?

How much do we know about what individual cities are doing ATM. Like what's been going on and their daily activities and their current objectives

I'm wondering because I might want to do a greywater project. And I'm thinking about where my guys could be. Could they be on an adventure/quest? Maybe to find new resources or conquer new lands. I know with greywater it's a bit complicated because everyone around them hates them

But they must get their resources somewhere for their industry right? Just wondering what kinda basing and lore I can give my guys within greywater. But also interested to hear about any of the other cities as well

How fare ye, my fellow Realmwalkers! Yes, that is correct the second entry of "The Dumb Mutt Asks Questions" goes straight from a silly question about clothes to the intense, philosophical question at the root of an entire GA: Why become Chaos?

Now obviously by the sheer nature of Chaos being a screaming dimension made up of super hells that form malevolent consciousnesses that get off on making your suffer, eating souls, and mildly inconveniencing you in equal measure the answers are technically simple: Desperation, Starvation, False Hope, Obsession, Lies, Tyranny, Falling to Corruption Whilst Trying to Overthrow Tyranny, Rage, Despair, these and many more reasons including the simplest one: Chaos offers a form of immortality.

Yet each of these terms can spawn a million stories. For is there ever truly such a thing as simple in a mind that thinks? So I ask you dear Realmwalkers to answer the simplest question that has no simple answers. Why become Chaos? Why continue upon a Path where the only ends are failure or a bitter victory through the slaughter of everything you took that first Glorious step for?

Why do mortals allow themselves not simply to turn to Chaos but to continue down the lonesome road to becoming Chaos? To becoming a Chaos Lord, a Daemon Prince, or any number of other dark fates. What horrors allows the thinking being to go from the first step to that final plunge to darkness...

I find these guys cool and want to know more about what (un)life is like for the average bonereaper on a day to day when it's not tax day. Are the giant bone constructs and animal like constructs sentient as the other bonereapers or just animal like? Do they have friends or partners?

Can any of them not like Nagash or think Nagash is a dick and ditch him on the downlow or are they all bound to him?

I’ve been learning about the different factions and I find all of them very interesting. In particular it was interesting how the Idoneth are a “good guy” faction and yet they must do something that would traditionally make them a villain in order to survive. So, if one Idoneth faction was in desperate need of souls would they raid a different Idoneth faction?

No but really for ages untold this mogrel has languished as discussions on Duardin and Dwarves are few and far between. Then the Chaos Duardin show up, and suddenly everything dwarf is sterling silver or premium gold!

So let's get down to the brass tacks. I want to strike while the iron is hot. To steel myself in case the wells of excitement dry. So tell me my dear Realmwalkers.

What is there to know about Duardin and Dwarves of the Worldsl-That-Was? What can we expect from Valaya and Gazul both suddenly getting limelight after millennia dead? What is a Reckoner? What is a Loremaster?

How do Grudgs and Kharadron Grudgments work outside of memes more interested in jokes? In the World-That-Was the friendship between The Empire and Dwarves lasted several thousand years, then went on to survive the universe's destruction, and then last untold millennia up to the dawning of the Age of Sigmar where Stormcast Eternals, embodiments of what humans and duardin gods can craft to together, showed up. Is it not fascinating that the Dawi-Umgi friendship has outlived empires, apocalypses, worlds, and everything that tried to rend them apart?

Did you know Karaz Ankor had a lot of choirs? Did you know the Dispossessed of Greywater Fastness have both Council of the Forge clans who are powerful industrialists and Labour-Clans who are laborer families who fight for workers' rights?

What do we know of the Galaxy? The Shadow Duardin? The Root-Kings? The Wuttenfolk? The Dispossessed? The Fyreslayers? And even the Zharrdron who awoke this craze?

Tell me and all else who will listen Realmwalkers. What do you think is useful to know about Dawi?

Just curious if there are any new novels that are planned for release? Or if there are any series that are ongoing, besides Gotrek? I know they just announced a big Horus Heresy line of books and am wondering if AoS has anything ongoing like that right now.

They seem more akin to chaos worshippers. I have no reall knowledge about them as a faction, though.

Greetings fellow courtiers and servants of our lord and saviour, big Ush. I recently finished Ushoran: Mortarch of Delusion, and I cannot help but wonder how powerful Ushoran truly is.

Obviously tabletop power levels aren't quite lore accurate, but still, most FEC armies do include ushoran, who goes toe to toe against gods. What do you people think, could his madness corrupt other vastly powerful beings?

For context, I'm a guy coming from 40k and I knew AoS was a thing back then but it never really caught my interest because I had already been playing fantasy tabletop games (e.g. dnd)

But when I saw the trailer for the new edition of AoS and some of the animated videos I was intrigued. I figured I would learn about the lore first, so I came here.

But the problem is, I know NNNNNNNNOTHING of AoS. The only things I know of is that there's this guy called Sigmar, the little rat people called Skaven, the big Golden boys which I could only compare to space marines and that the warp from 40k also exists here.

I have a ton of questions, but I'm only gonna ask a few and I mainly just want a rundown of the lore, the beginner stuff.

1. Is sigmar similar to the god emperor from 40k?
2. If the warp exists in AoS, does it imply that 40k and AoS are connected? Like, could one travel from one universe or another through the warp?
3. Considering how massive of a threat the forces of chaos are in 40k and how they have the ability to take over entire sectors, how hasn't the planet (or I suppose realm in this case) that AoS takes place in hasn't been overrun by chaos yet?
4. How does their tech work? I've seen that they use alot of magic, but how does the hell does their full auto black powder rifles function? (This is coming from a firearm nerd, again, sorry if I am asking stupid question)
5. Speaking of magic, is the way they have magic similar to psykers from 40k, by that I mean they dabble in the warp? Or do they get their power from some other source?

I have never played fantasy or been particularly interested in it's lore, but playing through total war gave me a strong idea of the faction identities and where they are located and it took like 2 seconds to find the stuff about the old ones which total war skips past.

This means I can figure out things like "where is clan skyre and what is their main identity" very quickly. Skavenblight, near brettonia and the pirate coast. "Where did the tomb kings come from?" Nagash messing with the imperials.

With aos however, all I really get is "Archaon broke the world into 8 disconnected realities" and I feel like I'd need to crack open an actual aos book to figure out more. I have no idea where clan skyre lives now, and I have no clue where the idoneth deepkin came from, or what their identity is beyond being aquatic in nature. Afaik they could be the pirate coast descendants. I also don't know what a city of sigmar looks like, or why they have so many non-human units. I understand a map that covers 8 entire worlds is difficult but I have no clue what happened to the factions in between the world ending and present aos. This is making it really difficult to get invested in anything lore-wise with aos. If anyone has an explanation of what happened to each faction and how the new ones arose that would be very helpful for my sanity.

For this silly though experiment you can pick forces of Order of any type that has appeared in the lore. From Stormhosts to one-shot Mendicant oorders like the Order of the Dove or Cult of the Comet.

As a baseline let's look to the crusade for Caddow which included four Chambers of Hallowed Knights, three Freeguild regiments, the Order of the Dove, a cabal of Collegiate wizards, an Ironweld force, a Dispossessed Labour-Clan, and assorted auxiliaries and aid.

Sooo let's say up to roughly twelve major groups can be picked for your dream crusade. It is Sigmar's favorite after all. But no more than four slots can be Stormcast chambers. You need at least some organizations who will stay and settle the new city.

So, two related questions:

A. what happens to Chaos followers (let’s say, chaos warriors or chosen) and their souls when they die? I would the assume they are claimed by Nagash’s; but if a CW Sells his soul tip a demon or a god and is “damned”, does it go somewhere else instead?

B. Relatedly: what They hope/ think happens when they die? Ex. In TOW, Norscans would mm to reside in the hall of their ancestors if they die in a worthy way.

Do we know how the dwarven Ancestor Gods came about? I know they were all originally mortals but has it ever been explained how Grimnir or Valaya were elevated to become gods?
