Baroque Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City.

Yesterday I went to the Metropolitan Cathedral at night and took this photos.

One of the most impressive colonial churches in the Americas.

The Viceroyalty of New Spain wasn't a colony, it was a separate entity with it's own rules and administration, but under the leadership of one Viceroy selected by the King of Spain. And Mexico City was it's capital.

There was no freedom of movement between the Viceroyalty and the Iberian Peninsula, not even between the various Viceroyalties

Nope. Mexico was still a colony. It was only managed by a Viceroy for administrative purposes. But it was still a colony.

Quality of life was better in most parts of the "colony" than in Spain, how can that be a colony?
