Google avoid tolls option being overridden in Sydney

Has anyone experienced this recently? I had my Google maps navigation set to "avoid tolls" and the toggle setting remained in place although the maps navigation repeatedly tried to trick me into getting on toll roads. Is there an alternative to Google maps?

I prefer Waze over google maps. even though google owns them now, it's still better to me.

I use "Here We Go", and have found it quite good so far.

No idea how it makes money, though, which makes me a little concerned...

Assuming they sell gps and traffic data, if you signed in with anything it probably sold that too

No sign in, no account and if you download the maps (easy and useful) it works offline as well.

Been using Apple Maps for a couple years now. Pretty comparable to Google IMO. It was a joke when it launched way back when but it’s been solid for me for the life of this phone at least.

I’ve tried Waze a couple of times and it has some great features but it seemed to take forever to find my location when I jumped in the car. It’s also feeding all of my data back to Google though so if getting away from Google is a consideration, it’s not really worth trying.

Never had this issue. Where were you trying to go from and to? - perhaps the map didn't have any other options (although that would seem unusual)

It had non-toll options because I took them by guessing.
