why is Erin Patterson is constantly getting air time on the news?

so she used mushrooms to poison and commit murder, why is it that the news on telly is still reporting this over and over for months now??

Multiple murder event is unusual, the murder method is very unusual and the fact that the killer is a woman is both unusual and salacious. So it ticks all the boxes for a very “click bait-y” news story, despite it actually being about the tragic, very cruel, deaths of 3 innocent people.

She’s also a middle class mum and killed her middle class in-laws at her middle class lunch in her middle class home. It’s scary because she’s “normal” on the surface. If she was a meth head who killed 3 people while on drugs no one would take much notice.

A multiple murder event is a rare occurrence in Australia and she was also sentenced today.

It should wrap up and not be heard about again in a few days until the inevitable appeal

The court case has attracted worldwide attention. I think a lot of people have followed it and feel invested.

people complain about hearing about stuff in the us, or “irrelevant” news online, and then complain when real news is being broadcast ????

Go to any bookshop. Look how much room is devoted to crime fiction/true crime. Same with tv/movies. People find crime, esp. murder fascinating.

You don't think that her being sentenced today wasn't relevant or newsworthy?

That you have made a post about it proves that it is and still has people's attention.

Do you not realise it is the perfect British murder mystery tv episode.

Albeit not delivered with quite the usual level of elocution that one may be accustomed to.

Because people keep talking about it, so they air it, even this post brings it up again

Don’t worry, you’re about to never hear of her again

she still hasn't even revealed the recipe yet

Nothing significant happens in Australia. The rest of the world is concentrated between 15 and 30 hours away par avion, so when something actually happens the media makes it last

I don't get it either. It would be far more interesting if she hadn't done such a shit job of not getting caught, and the facts about what happened weren't bloody obvious.

Because she is a psycho hose beast that killed family via a retro 80s dish. That shit don't happen every day.

Because Erin Patterson is the first mass murderer in his country since Port Arthur. Thank God it's very rare in this country.

Because it's liberating for women and men to see a woman have to take full responsibility for committing violent crime. The public doesn't see that very often. Look at every facial expression she makes and she's desperate to look like the victim. It's quite common to see in the news the domestic violence perpetrators saying hey I'm the real victim in all this and nobody believing them. Satisfying to see any phony victim getting their comeuppance.
