The fact that people even needed denazification after the Holocaust makes me wonder if ”that trait” is inherent…

Germany had a lot of denazification but their numbers are very similar to Austria

True, but in Germany it's a recent resurgence. Austria has been like this since basically the formation of the modern state in 1955

Austrians joined EU late as well, aside from free trade I really don’t think they give a lot of fucks about EU.

As far as governments go I don't think any want to really deal with any new members considering much bigger problems exist for the EU right now (Trump and Putin).

People’s opinions and votes don’t matter, most governments are run from Brussels, the ones which aren’t will be pressured.
