At a 2nd hand store I bought a jigsaw puzzle for my mom, and the box had English writing on it. Only when I was looking at it I realised that it's probably called a jigsaw puzzle in English because you'd (I assume traditionally) use a jigsaw of some kind to cut it. I've been learning English for over 20 years now and I never for a moment questioned why they're called jigsaw puzzles.
In Finnish it's called just "piece game".

In Turkish we call them yapboz. "Yapmak" is to make and "bozmak" is to undo. So it's something like make-unmake because you can make and unmake it as many times as you like. I think it's cool. Perpetual toy.

In Italian it's just called 'puzzle'... the second part of the English term.

TIL what a literal jigsaw is. I'd never realised it meant something other than a jigsaw puzzle.
And in Portugal we just call it a puzzle (in English).

Göteborg,Sweden.
A bit cloudy this morning, about 15° at 7am.Today we're going to explore the city a bit.
The place we're staying has a great buffet breakfast, which seems to be a feature of Swedish hotels I've stayed at in the past.. it's not a cheap country, but you get value,at least with the breakfast!

What do they have for breakfast? Luca, you're so stingy with food porn! Give details! Breakfast, yum.
Here's also about the same weather. Too cold!

I'm eating my way through it now...
Ok.They have something cooked... bacon, scrambled eggs (good!) and some kind of hot dog type sausages (I didn't eat those;-)
They have amazing bread! Even better than German bread maybe...
After that I had yogurt with fruit and granola. The granola is home made, the fresh fruit today is strawberries and blackberries.
They have pancakes with kind of raspberry compote.
There are a ton of other things that I haven't tried yet, different fruits, nuts, cereals etc.
Then there are some kinds of pastries..mini croissants etc.
There's also a whole table with cold cuts, cheese and salad.More of a North European classic breakfast...I might take some of that with me to have for lunch later ;-)
Excellent coffee.Juice, and even smoothies if you want.
They have a crazy number of different types of milk...all the plant based milk you can think of.
Melon and watermelon.
Nothing really strange but lots of variety.Maybe a bowl of chia seeds, I'm not sure about that for breakfast, but I guess you are just supposed to put them on your cereal or yogurt.

That's such a perfect breakfast 😭 god I'm hungry. Do they also have these caviar paste things to put on boiled eggs? Those are so good, but if I buy them I never manage to finish the tube before it goes bad.
scrambled eggs
In Japan they had these very loose scrambled eggs in the hotel buffet, perfect for spooning over rice for breakfast. I never manage to get them like they did.
God I'm hungry. And my husband is still in bed 😞

Yes, they do have that paste.I'll try it tomorrow! They have boiled eggs too both hard and soft boiled.
That Japanese scrambled eggs is very hard to get right. You need a very thin layer in a big pan, very low heat, constant stirring and scraping it but not for very long.Soy sauce and mirin.

I will try that, maybe look up a video or something, too. Theirs is always so silky without being snotty (though I sometimes did think that eggs in Japan are too undercooked)

Even completely raw eggs for breakfast is fairly common in Japan...a raw egg on top of rice .With soy sauce of course, and then all mixed together... the hot rice 'cooks' the egg.A little!

Look at my tomatoes 😍 aren't they gorgeous?
I am eating vegan at the moment, so I tried to make tofu Caprese. You need to drain the tofu really well, and then slice and dress as usual. I must say, it is very very good. I would eat it happily even if I weren't vegan (I see the torches and pitchforks already)
I had some epic cooking fails last night and ended up having ramen at nine instead. But I am determined to turn it around and make something out of the battlefield from yesterday.
Did you guys ever have any horrible cooking fails? What happened?
