Salah ad-Din is glorified by europeans, to glorify richard. He wasn't that much of a brilliant commander, but rather a charismatic man. Leaders like baibars are better  ommanders imo.

You are right with the europeans glorifying part.

However compare leaders to his time, and leaders of today, he really was a person to be respected.

Obviously you have to be careful here and not fall into the great man theory cause 1. Everything is from Allah you as a man is not great is not a higher being you are only allowed to achieve those things by the will of Allah and 2. it is very stupid to think that 1 man could do such thing while in reality it was a movement of people who managed to pull this off together, a collective of sorts, but westerners would like you to believe otherwise.

In the last few decades in Europe, on the contrary, there has been a tendency to expose the image of King Richard from British legends. So in these exposures, he has many negative qualities.
