I trust the opinion of no one who thinks Aang staying would have done anything except get the Avatar killed.

I dont think OP was making this point, because Aang could not have stopped them back then, but it brings up a good one:

Blaming Korra for the villain destroying the previous avatar spirits is somewhat like blaming Aang for the villain destroying the Air nation.

I imagine most avatar's had a quick chat with a past avatar and then maybe went back for another quick chat a decade later when they needed some info. Honestly I can imagine many avatars learning how to access the past life repository and then never bothering again.

The first few avatar's had fuckin' no one to go back and talk to and they figured it out, now the avatar has a whole ass white lotus order to help.

Fat lot of good the White Lotus did Korra. Kept her isolated away in the South Pole for most of her life until Episode 1. She knew practically nothing about how the world really works until the School of Hard Knocks beat the lessons into her the hard way, repeatedly.

I mean they provided her with teachers for all the elements and probably other things but yes for the most part they kept her sheltered and not fully aware of the reality of the world.

They really could have done more with the white lotus than they did.

The White Lotus bringing Korra her teachers is a big part of the whole problem.
