Who is really the villain here

u/Naive_Drive Apr 25 '25
A great example of how you can make things seem way different by taking them out of context.

Did you know that 100% of people who drink water die? WE NEED TO BAN WATER

u/Bosterm Apr 26 '25
Dihydrogen monoxide is also a major component of acid rain.
9
u/Ok_Sink5046 Apr 26 '25
Fish piss in it you know
4
u/Bosterm Apr 26 '25
Not only that, dihydrogen monoxide is used in nuclear power plants and has been found inside cancer tumors.
And once you become dependent on this chemical, withdrawal leads to certain death after about three days.

u/Minoleal Apr 25 '25
I mean, 2 of Katara's have no valid excuse...
But yeah Azula's side sounds completely like something she would say in a debate/judgement.
4
u/Kiriima Apr 26 '25
Childish jealousy, nothing to excuse since she grows past it.
1
u/Minoleal Apr 26 '25
A reason is not an excuse.
3
u/Kiriima Apr 26 '25
As I said, there is nothing to excuse.
0
u/Minoleal Apr 26 '25
I have to disagree, I accept that she grew past it but the grievance happened, it has nothing to do that she did better later with the fact that she had no excuse for what she did on the moment.

Reminds me of that "King Jauffre out of context" video from a few years back that completely has lighted fake game of thrones fans into thinking he was a good dude

Evil Katara: Prolonging peoples suffering by healing survivors and having them live with all the pain they have seen.
Good Azula: Ending peoples suffering by killing every survivor.
Because context doesnt matter.

I wanna see evil Katara in action now

u/lanester4 Apr 28 '25
There is a really great fan comic of Aang waking up in a reverse world, where the Water Tribe is evil and he has to fight Katara and Sokka with Zuko and Azulas help

u/zane314 Apr 28 '25
This was not mocking Toph's blindness. This was Azula refusing to let her mocking of her intelligence go unnoticed.

A) He remembers that Toph is blind
B) this was Toph's idea

Not that this is a good example, but just for the record.

Azula didn’t bully Mai and Ty Lee—she exploited their fears so they could overcome them. Who would do that? A FRIEND. A TRUE FRIEND
Sorry, Katara. 🫠

u/Anti-Hero3 Apr 25 '25
But consider this: Zoe's boring and Chloe was having development, until she wasn't all at once
1
u/AnonymousDratini Apr 25 '25
I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or are legitimately making those arguments.
3
u/Anti-Hero3 Apr 25 '25
I do generally prefer Chloe, but the ppl who believe she does no wrong are just lying to themselves
3
u/AnonymousDratini Apr 25 '25
The fact that Chloe was a brat even when she had superpowers was pretty interesting.
I love Zoé though. She’s such a sweetie.
8
u/whomesteve Apr 25 '25
I mean she did those “good things” to be manipulative and passive aggressive.
9
u/MrCheesLlams Firebender 🔥 Apr 25 '25

Azula: Offers the idea of destroying the Earth Kingdom entirely as a way to destroy its people’s hope. All to satisfy her father.
Katara: Helps stop that from happening.
16
u/MrCheesLlams Firebender 🔥 Apr 25 '25
Azula: Helps her father with International affairs
Katara: Fights person with mental health issues
1
u/Disastrous_Horse_764 Apr 25 '25
Azula: Watches and smiles as her/her brother Zuko’s father burns Zuko’s face in front of a large crowd.
Katara: Eventually forgives Zuko for betraying her and allowing Ba Sing Se to be invaded.
15
11
u/MrCheesLlams Firebender 🔥 Apr 25 '25
Azula: Is happy that their father is teaching Zuko a lesson so that he can learn and grow.
Katara: Is really mean to Zuko after he joins the Gaang (Like I mean hasen’t she watched the show or something.)

So…I’ve been playing a Baldur’s Gate 3 run as Azula so a strangely political dark urge(she’s a tab not a Durge) run (Rip Wyll and Karlach, she killed the grove because Azula wouldn’t give a damn about Druids and find them week!) however as I’m playing the run I’ve had thoughts of her actually becoming friends with this band of weirdos enough so that I love the idea of making a second run for her to be her best self and slay, nice Azula would be cool!

The Azula-Toph dynamic remained mostly unexplored unfortunately. Seeing that they have several traits in common (misanthropy, ruthlessness, high degree of talent) and that Azula showed a baseline of respect towards Toph it could be an interesting path to lead the series towards. Did the live action series introduce anything of the sort?
1
u/Greatoz74 Apr 26 '25
Not to mention she's the only person to fool her truthseeing. And with a completely obvious lie at that!

2
u/No_Internet_3919 Apr 27 '25
Personally I feel like Katara is more Neutral Good and Toph is Chaotic Good. Aang and Sokka are probably Lawful Good.

u/Pentamachina3 Apr 25 '25
What was Azula's plan with Zuko, btw? How did she know Aang wasn't dead? Why did she gas her brother up to Ozai? I seriously don't understand.
1
u/Geralt_the_Rive Apr 25 '25
So that he would own her favors, maybe she didn't know she just suspected it, and didn't want to risk it, it's not like she needs accomplishments
1
u/Pentamachina3 Apr 25 '25
It's the only part of season 3 that I just never understood. Even then, what favors from Zuko does she even need? No way Ozai would crown him Fire Lord, despite being the eldest, and she already had dirt on him because she knew he was visiting Iroh in secret, so like??? What was her angle? Maybe a part of her actually cares for him, but in the flashback for the Agni Kai, she was SMILING watching Ozai burn Zuko, so again, I don't really understand her reasoning at all. Maybe she just wanted to f@#$ with him, like a cat does a mouse.
2
u/Ok_Sink5046 Apr 26 '25
You get a fallback on the wild chance Aang is alive, you have a target if you fuck up since you hold his girlfriend around his finger.

Gee, it’s almost like one is a protagonist with a narrative arc and the other is an antagonist whose purpose is to incite narrative arcs.
1
u/Useful-Put1111 Apr 26 '25
- Azula MOCKED Toph by calling out her blindness. 2. Azula wanted to KILL Aang. 3. She only helped Zulo because she admitted she needed him in the moment and then tried to get him to take the blame when the avatar turned out to be alive.
Katara never made fun of Toph, she forgot she was blind because she saw Toph as someone just as capable as any seeing person. She was jealous of Aang because he learned something that took her MONTHS to learn in just a few minutes, everyone has had that one advanced student in their class that does everything better than them and they naturally become jealous of. Zuko betrayed her and nearly got her crush and best friend killed!?

op forgets katara grew from those mistakes/interactions as well as the others
azula was just manipulative throughout all of her scenarios to reach her own goals
