How would everyone collectively forget that? this new avatar is directly after Korra it's not like it's centuries later, unless Korra was doing some kyoshi shit and being immortal for funsies

The current previews suggest some form of world-destroying event happened between the two avatars. Such events lead to lost knowledge

Yea but you'd just need like a few people of a past generation? Like a grandmother even if lots of information is lost the avatar and its cycle is pretty much common knowledge.

True, though its less common knowledge that the link to the past avatars was severed. The new avatar may assume she just hasn't learned how to connect to the past avatars rather than she is no longer able to do so. Depends a lot on whether Korra actually appears as a past connection.
