Took my wife to Onegin last night

Post image

Never been to ballet. Never posted or thought I’d be posting on a ballet sub before.

I was blown away. Not just the talent, but the whole experience. Visuals, set, lighting, sound.

Pretty cool stuff. Had to share.

They are wonderful! I hope to be lucky enough to see them perform one day

I think Onegin is the perfect first ballet for those coming to the art form as adults. Also a perfect second, thirtieth, thousandth. A colleague of mine asked for recommendations as a ballet newbie recently, and his reaction was very similar to yours. It's a true masterpiece, and I'm so glad you enjoyed!

Many many years ago I took my non-dancer wife to see Mayerling as her first full length ballet ...
High drama, but probably the least romantic ballet ever made.

Onegin is a better date night plot. But not much better.

A ballet made 200 years ago by people who have ties to Slavic historical areas is crap 200 years later? Sorry I live in Ukraine and this is stupid.

Not to mention the choreographer wasn’t Russian or Ukrainian. You’re just being stupid

The original author, Pushkin, died almost 200 years ago. The choreographer, John Cranko, was a gay South African. You're in a ballet sub, wait until you hear about Tchaikovsky!

Good?? This animal kill neighbour just because!!

To be honest nothing unusual: rusians doing this all the time.

I think you're being way too russophobic and political. r/DownvotedToOblivion
