Question Who's the most Barca coded player, that didn't play for Barca? For me, it's David Silva.

Isco was a Barca fan

His dogs name was Messi

weren’t both of them Barca fans during their childhood years?

41

u/MrDoobOfficial Jul 17 '25

modric maybe. isco was though if i recall

70

u/xingrox Jul 17 '25

Googled, “Luka Modrić was reportedly a Barcelona fan during his childhood. According to his former Croatian teammate Ivan Rakitić, Modrić even joked about being a bigger fan than Rakitić himself. Despite this, Modrić ultimately signed with Real Madrid.”

3

u/MrDoobOfficial Jul 17 '25

ah okay, thanks for the update

30

u/GregGraffin23 Jul 17 '25

Isco was 100% There pictures of a young Isco with a Barcalona shirt. Even wearing the Catalan yellow/red one

26

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Isn’t his dog’s name “Messi”? As in Isco has always been a Barca fan.

7

u/GregGraffin23 Jul 17 '25

Yes, one of his dogs name is Messi

Santi cazorla....

29

u/Wizard-King-Angmar Jul 17 '25

Part of (a member of) the golden generation of the Spanish national Football Team

5

u/FartSniffer2025 Jul 18 '25

Arsenal fan who came across this post on my feed. Cazorla came to us a season after Fabregas left and one of my first thoughts was thank God he's not from La Masia else we may lose him in 2-3 seasons.

My favourite Arsenal player after Henry.

Marco Verratti

111

u/Vast_Payment2869 Jul 17 '25

I second that. And he almost played for us too.

44

u/Accomplished_Ad_7021 Jul 17 '25

Yeah I remember the rumors of him possibly joining

58

u/Vast_Payment2869 Jul 17 '25

Looking back at it, I wish he joined instead of coutinho

Isn't that transfer attempt for Veratti prompted PSG to go all in for Neymar?

Rodri

83

u/Accomplished_Ad_7021 Jul 17 '25

I still dream of him playing for us one day even tho the likelihood of that us so slim lol

8

u/Lynx-Waste Jul 18 '25

I miss Rodri was a footballer with 0 haters literally everyone loved how simple he was with no social media and everything. However a certain fanbase ruined his life

Mats Hummels. Solid defender with elite ball playing ability.

Dybala

48

u/Roseradeismylady Jul 17 '25

His best years were when Messi was still here, so it wouldn't have worked. Kind of like Griezmann

115

u/Cultural_Cold8971 Jul 17 '25

Well others are correct but for me currently I’ll say vitinha

8

u/Forsaken-Special1521 Jul 17 '25

i wish he would be able to join us

40

u/oklolzzzzs Jul 17 '25

i just wouldnt see it. we have too many midfield talents rn (gavi, frenkie, pedri, casado, olmo, bernal, fernandez brothers)

u/AlePaz11 Jul 17 '25

He is great but Barça’s midfield is full of gems already.

2

u/t0tsugeki- Jul 17 '25

Vitinha + Pedri ruling the midfield would be cheatcode honestly.

36

u/_boozygroggy_ Jul 17 '25

Obviously Paul Scholes. Pep even said as much.

7

u/Assonfire Jul 18 '25

In the same breath I would've added Giggs.

→ More replies (1)

28

u/cuddle-bubbles Jul 17 '25 edited Jul 20 '25

Paul Scholes. So many of barca golden generation sees him as their idol

Also often used as training reference in barca youth academy for the way he passes, moves & controlled games

88

u/No_Reference1439 Jul 17 '25

Bernardo Silva

11

u/epicstar Jul 17 '25

I'd argue against this because he's clearly a #10 and has a hard time playing as a #8.

13

u/Zhurg Jul 17 '25 edited Jul 18 '25

Except when he's played there and has been really good

Zinedine Zidane. it was rumored that Johan Cruyff wanted zidane but could not sign so.

2

u/Assonfire Jul 18 '25

No, Cruijff was busy with his list of players he wanted for 96-97 and, if I'm not mistaken, contact was made with players with a positive ending.

However, Cruijff also had signed a bunch of players who didn't turn out to be quite as good as he though: Kodro, Korneev, Cuellar, Prosinecki, Hagi, Lopetegui and Jose Mari. This didn't really inspire the board a whole lot of confidence in his choices.

Zidane is the name that keeps coming back, but if I'm not mistaken he had other good names on the list. In the end most of 'em didn't come because Cruijff was sacked. That's the sole reason.

Otherwise part of the core of 96-97 would've consisted in some galacticos, with zidane, ronaldo and figo.

u/vysevysevyse Jul 17 '25

I've delusionally visualised Isco as a barca player since idk when.

9

u/MegaRoadHouse Jul 17 '25

Robin Van Persie would have bombed for us in his prime

38

u/MichealWon Jul 17 '25

KDB

20

u/Vast_Payment2869 Jul 17 '25

Barca hasn't had players like kdb in the past, tho. The closest one to him is xavi in my opinion.

17

u/Virtual_Echo6738 Jul 17 '25

Michael Laudrup anybody?

9

u/DrLyleEvans Jul 17 '25

Laudrup was similarly versatile and creative and picked the right pass and had a nice stride like a younger KDB.

Bernardo silva

7

u/PerformerVirtual2552 Jul 17 '25

He's Technically really Sound. Tired of him just back passing the ball.

13

u/beairrcea Jul 17 '25

That’s just instructions from pep, if pep told him to be more direct he would be but pep recently has been all about control and suffocating the opponent

Wayne Rooney would have been perfect for Barca. One of my favorite players of that generation

Allison, good at the ball and a typical ball playing gk that Barcelona has always had.

3

As both Barca and Arsenal fan, Wilshere before shits happen.

I think prime Pjanic was perfect for Barcelona

3

u/DValencia29 Jul 17 '25

Prime Pjanic was something soo good. Its a shame he came to play for us in a terrible time.

Iago Aspas

3

u/Shoddy-Cherry-490 Jul 17 '25

Toni Kroos and Modric. With both or either one, Barca would have done magical things after 2015.

3

u/aceusimp Jul 17 '25

lowkey, very lowkey kimmich

4

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '25

LAUTARO MARTINEZ is so BARCA CODED and underrated. Complete striker with great ball striking and control in tight spaces.

3

u/-veinticuatro- Jul 18 '25

Silva, Verrati and Isco

3

u/iSonorasu Jul 18 '25

Bastoni. I could even see him in a Barca jersey and I’m not even a Barca fan

6

u/arriving_somewhere1 Jul 17 '25

Modric and KDB.

12

u/PerformerVirtual2552 Jul 17 '25

Ironic but Modric was a cule.

5

u/JIPortillo Jul 17 '25

Thiago Silva, Frank Ribery

4

u/theboymanolin Jul 17 '25

Ribery. I think Hazard and Giroud wouldve fit really well also.

6

u/t0tsugeki- Jul 17 '25

I'm sure Giroud would've worked in a role similar to Luuk De Jong, but he isn't a profile Barça usually pick. He's a tower.

2

u/theboymanolin Jul 17 '25

True but he was always good in short combinations when he played for Arsenal so I always wondered how he would fare at Barca. Isco and Silva are the most typical ones with the Barca DNA I guess

2

u/t0tsugeki- Jul 17 '25

Yup Arsenal was fun to watch during his time, with prime Wilshere (when not injured lol) they had their moments. Although now that you bring Arsenal in the conversation i'm thinking i would've enjoyed Robin Van Persie for sure.

2

u/theboymanolin Jul 17 '25

never thought of that. RVP at Barca would go crazy 🔥

2

u/kiamustang7891 Jul 17 '25

Bro 2012-13 season with Pedro - RvP - Messi omg

4

u/smokedry Jul 17 '25

Maybe unpopular. Benzema had good one touch and close control in the box. Suarez had great hold up play. We would never know.

2

u/Assonfire Jul 18 '25

We wanted him, back in the day, but in the end the deal fell through because of his surroundings and Barça's distrust of it.

u/bouy1819chmps Jul 18 '25

Alisson Becker

2

u/suckers_10 Jul 18 '25

Veratti . Calm and Composed . Great football IQ , kepts the tempo really well when playing . Sadly left europe too early , would have given 5 years of ball for any team . Playing in Qatar league as of now . Al Duhail

2

u/aplhamoan Jul 18 '25

Jamal musiala, he should def play for barca

2

u/Calitz__ Jul 18 '25

Quite a few of the City squad of the past few years could also fit in this category. Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Mahrez, Laporte, Ederson all fit the mould

3

u/Pastamancer_Rik Jul 18 '25

Vintage shoutout: Roberto baggio

2

u/monsur07 Jul 18 '25

Isco , ozil bernardo silva

2

u/ahmetonel Jul 17 '25

I guess Rodrygo

3

u/AndholRoin Jul 17 '25

Toni Kroos from a distance.

Far behind, Mo Salah has that Barca 10 alure and probably either George Weah or Clarence Seedorf would complete my top 3.

Every high voted comment are good. I think for the modern game, Vitinha and Joao Neves for me.

1

u/vawe1 Jul 17 '25

Eden Hazard. Man the best dribbler imo when he was playing for chelsea in his prime. Wasted talent.

1

Unironically Kroos and Modric

1

u/twicesgood Jul 17 '25

1

Thiago Silva was perfect for Barcelona. Good on the ball, calm and a great defender, I am shocked this never happened.

Yes, David Silva, then the Spanish team would be complete😅
