Question Who's the most Barca coded player, that didn't play for Barca? For me, it's David Silva.

Santi cazorla....

u/Wizard-King-Angmar Jul 17 '25
Part of (a member of) the golden generation of the Spanish national Football Team

u/FartSniffer2025 Jul 18 '25
Arsenal fan who came across this post on my feed. Cazorla came to us a season after Fabregas left and one of my first thoughts was thank God he's not from La Masia else we may lose him in 2-3 seasons.
My favourite Arsenal player after Henry.

Marco Verratti

u/Vast_Payment2869 Jul 17 '25
I second that. And he almost played for us too.

u/Accomplished_Ad_7021 Jul 17 '25
Yeah I remember the rumors of him possibly joining

Looking back at it, I wish he joined instead of coutinho

Isn't that transfer attempt for Veratti prompted PSG to go all in for Neymar?

Rodri

u/Accomplished_Ad_7021 Jul 17 '25
I still dream of him playing for us one day even tho the likelihood of that us so slim lol

u/Lynx-Waste Jul 18 '25
I miss Rodri was a footballer with 0 haters literally everyone loved how simple he was with no social media and everything. However a certain fanbase ruined his life

Mats Hummels. Solid defender with elite ball playing ability.

Superb take. Prime Hummels was the best Cb in the world at the time

His best years were when Messi was still here, so it wouldn't have worked. Kind of like Griezmann

Paul Scholes. So many of barca golden generation sees him as their idol
Also often used as training reference in barca youth academy for the way he passes, moves & controlled games

I'd argue against this because he's clearly a #10 and has a hard time playing as a #8.

Zinedine Zidane. it was rumored that Johan Cruyff wanted zidane but could not sign so.
2
u/Assonfire Jul 18 '25
No, Cruijff was busy with his list of players he wanted for 96-97 and, if I'm not mistaken, contact was made with players with a positive ending.
However, Cruijff also had signed a bunch of players who didn't turn out to be quite as good as he though: Kodro, Korneev, Cuellar, Prosinecki, Hagi, Lopetegui and Jose Mari. This didn't really inspire the board a whole lot of confidence in his choices.
Zidane is the name that keeps coming back, but if I'm not mistaken he had other good names on the list. In the end most of 'em didn't come because Cruijff was sacked. That's the sole reason.
Otherwise part of the core of 96-97 would've consisted in some galacticos, with zidane, ronaldo and figo.

Barca hasn't had players like kdb in the past, tho. The closest one to him is xavi in my opinion.

Laudrup was similarly versatile and creative and picked the right pass and had a nice stride like a younger KDB.

Bernardo silva

u/PerformerVirtual2552 Jul 17 '25
He's Technically really Sound. Tired of him just back passing the ball.
13
u/beairrcea Jul 17 '25
That’s just instructions from pep, if pep told him to be more direct he would be but pep recently has been all about control and suffocating the opponent

Ribery. I think Hazard and Giroud wouldve fit really well also.

u/t0tsugeki- Jul 17 '25
I'm sure Giroud would've worked in a role similar to Luuk De Jong, but he isn't a profile Barça usually pick. He's a tower.
2
u/theboymanolin Jul 17 '25
True but he was always good in short combinations when he played for Arsenal so I always wondered how he would fare at Barca. Isco and Silva are the most typical ones with the Barca DNA I guess
2
u/t0tsugeki- Jul 17 '25
Yup Arsenal was fun to watch during his time, with prime Wilshere (when not injured lol) they had their moments. Although now that you bring Arsenal in the conversation i'm thinking i would've enjoyed Robin Van Persie for sure.

Maybe unpopular. Benzema had good one touch and close control in the box. Suarez had great hold up play. We would never know.
2
u/Assonfire Jul 18 '25
We wanted him, back in the day, but in the end the deal fell through because of his surroundings and Barça's distrust of it.

Veratti . Calm and Composed . Great football IQ , kepts the tempo really well when playing . Sadly left europe too early , would have given 5 years of ball for any team . Playing in Qatar league as of now . Al Duhail

Quite a few of the City squad of the past few years could also fit in this category. Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Mahrez, Laporte, Ederson all fit the mould

Toni Kroos from a distance.
Far behind, Mo Salah has that Barca 10 alure and probably either George Weah or Clarence Seedorf would complete my top 3.
