Serious Discussion/Question Should I start the series with Arkham Asylum? (Humour welcome)

Yeah, it’s better to start with release order for most videogame series, including Arkham. Asylum has a more primitive version of the gameplay featured in the later games

Play it in release order, otherwise you'll feel whiplash going from the premium and refined combat in Origins, to the primitive Free Flow system in Aslume.
You'll enjoy it a lot that way.

I would personally start with Lego Batman: The Videogame series, as the Arkham games are a direct sequel to them

Tl:dr, if you pick city or knight to start on, I must ask. Are you stupid?
Okay so I recently wanted to show my gf(now ex) the Arkham games. After much thought I decided between starting with Asylum and origins, and between the two it depends on some factors.
If you’re new to gaming in general then origins may be the better start as it’s still in plot order but it has less less archaic graphics and generally more refined in every way. It also has the funniest version of Alfred in my opinion.
However it may be jarring to go from that back to asylum, so if you wanted to avoid that, go with asylum. Especially if you are already chill with older games. However if you’re playing on pc asylum I’ve found doesn’t like keyboard and mouse, so if you can’t plug a controller in origins may have better keyboard compatibility, however I haven’t tried it so don’t quote me. I only know for sure that Arkham knight words well with keyboard.

I started with City in like 2012 and had no issues, some things made a little more sense after playing asylum but it was really no issue. The only thing asylum really informs about city is what exactly has made Joker sick and the bane side quest. They're able to be played however except for Arkham Knight which really benefits from being played last.

You will have to first play raid shadow legends it's the prequel to asylum

Also serious note, I'd say start the games in release order (also Arkham Asylum imo is not as good as the rest only by gameplay mechanics and I'd put below Arkham Origins even I think their all S their games)

Arkham origins literally has the shitest origins for all the characters, it pretty much shows all the characters AFTER they've been established so it's not really that integral for understanding the other stories. I guess they introduce the joker, but not very well, he kinda just jonkles all over the place and that's it. Arkham asylum feels like a better introduction to the villains as they have audio tapes and cool descriptions.

Why people play Asylum when they can spend their time shitposting in the aslume is beyond me

I think so makes senses story wise obviously, but i also think it might help you really see and appreciate the evolution the series went in with gameplay and everything! Origins I wouldn’t know where to put it to play tho but it’s definitely deserving

asylum 100%. the gameplay gets more refined and more stuff is added as the games go on, so its better to go in release order. also asylum holds up super well and isnt even that long, even the 100% completion is pretty tame and quick

Yeah it’s the most dated of the 3 but it’s worth playing through, it’s pretty short too.

If you want to do release order, then yes.
If you want to do chronological order, then start with Arkham Origins, then Asylum, then City, and then Knight.

What? Are you serious? Or stupid? You will of course start with the "cathode-ray tube amusement device" and then work yourself through several decades of computer and video games in chronological order until you arrive at the Batman Arkham games and not one game sooner. ARE WE CLEAR?!!!
Kids these days. They have no respect for the past. All they want is instant gratification.

For a first time playthrough, yeah. Since it's the first, and you can see how the games grow over the years.
Though for replays, I tend to play in chronological order.
