I do hate that, and I'm one of the folks who's not at all offended by women being a part of this game. It's kind of insulting to turn every female character into a 2 dimensional, overly-confident hero archetype. There's room for complexity, or portraying them as average soldiers and such, like a female sniper who's as tired and flawed as everyone else. It's a much less pandering way of adding that perspective of the war.
Being that it's a Swedish studio I wouldn't be surprised if they actually have similar belief systems to the writers of those publications.
Either way, I think its a shame to choose political correctness over historical accuracy when it comes to design decisions that do not have any impact on game play
