I don't know man Christmas deco was both inside and out.
I don't really care either way but deff seems underwhelming AF the deco outside. Pavi deff could have done better is it worth being viral I don't think so
But if we really think about it, how best can they deco the square with Merdeka stuff? Christmas is pretty simple, it's just the tree, easy to monitor. I'm not sure if they are allowed to deco the outer walls, but if they can't, choices are kinda limited. The best they can go for the square is a photobooth with the Visit Malaysia bears, maybe, or some mini replicas of Malaysia's monuments.
From the top of my head they could have added the national flower/animal maybe a few propt walls with Malaysian history on it especially how we negotiated with the British to earn the counties independence.
Maybe some sports history you know anything patriotic like us hosting in 98 the Commonwealth games or Malaysians that perform well on the world stage. Maybe a big photo of the iconic moment when Tunku declaring merdeka. Maybe the evolution of how KL evolve into being a metropolis show the old photos I know ppl like seeing the old photos of KL/Malaysia. I don't know I'm sure event teams can come up with more this just the top of my head.
The problem is not they didn’t do this extravagant design only for Christmas. They do it for all festivities too like Thaipusam, Deepavali, Eid, CNY etc. You can just google pavi fountain deco on the internet and see it yourself.
Yup yup I mentioned Christmas cause that's the last I went to pavi and it was really nice many families were there to take photos so that's why I feel this deco is very underwhelming. It's kinda like failing from success since they are well known for their deco only second to klcc hell they may be the best mall when it comes to deco. But again is it worth making viral I don't think so.
Yeah. Those who’ve been to Pavillion KL would know the fountain is one of the most popular spot in Bukit Bintang because of its vibrant and extravagant seasonal designs based on whatever festivities we have at that time.
I’ve been using this picture as a proof. This is for Deepavali and you can see the effort in the fountain design.
Even then, this is still simple compared to what designs they used before this, with all the chariots, flowers, lamps and all. But at least, this is still wonderful to look at compared to the merdeka pic OP posted. Similar like you, i’m not sure whether we should a big issue out of this, but I do understand the frustration from the Threads OP.

Pavi KL fountain deco is more famous than their inside deco - it is literally one of the most iconic tourist spots in Bukit Bintang. They always go hard for their fountain deco for all festival seasons in Malaysia. For example, this is the deco for Deepavali.
So if people said Pavi KL’s inside deco is more famous, that means they have never been to Pavi KL.

Even then, I think this Deepavali pic is simpler than their standard festive designs. I’ve seen the fountain to be designed with chariots and flowers for Thaipusam I think. Not saying it is compulsory for the Pavi to have extravagant design for every festivities, but I do agree the merdeka deco is underwhelming compared to usual.
To be fair, she’s not wrong. This “election party flags tied to a post” vibe seems pretty low effort, considering the mall would have a big decoration budget. It’s weird and discordant, and if I was a tourist, not even worth a snapshot.

True for you, you do not care. But for those that felt like there’s no effort for the country, it just smack the country’s image. In Thailand and Indonesia (I can only say about these 2 countries because I’ve seen how they celebrate with my own eyes and experience) they really up their game for celebrating independence month. Idk if USA also celebrates kaw2 or not haha.
This is just matter of personal preference right. So like I said was wondering what other people’s opinion, and I can see a number of users in Reddit (idk if local Malaysians) really don’t care.
Why would Pavillion KL be the benchmark here or the be all and end all for what we should deem as effort for Merdeka celebration.
Even if you look at the celebrations of other countries, it would be their parades, the flags and other decorations around the city, etc. Isn’t it a group effort from everyone? Why’s Pavilion KL being singled out? Are their neighbors nearby all contributing as well? And we have to celebrate both Merdeka and Malaysia day here. So potentially more deco would come later in the month instead.
Like I don’t even get why suddenly there’s this demand for Pavillion KL to do it or critique on them for not doing enough. Even last year their Merdeka deco was about sustainability and very minimal. Really, why is this an issue now? Why do socmed platforms promote posts like this? Who’s seeding these content? Who’s trying to make these content trend to create groupthink?
Nahh dun worry I gotchyu brah. I’m a frequent Bukit Bintang traveller, and I know Pavillion KL will usually go hard for the fountain decos for all festivities. This one is underwhelming.

I’ve noticed something in common among these thread users. They always act like they are some sort of upper class citizens just because they use some english in their captions, always complain about something minor, bunch of annoying hipsters
Lack of effort probably reflects elite malaysians attitudes toward country. Also it's much harder to commodify national day compared to commodifying christmas or cny. My 2 cents.
I'd give another issue... Malays not putting up Malaysian flags during this independence month but putting up Palestinian flags.. I've nothing against your support for the cause but there is a time and place for that... And this August and September should be focused on our nation. Yes I specifically say Malays because as a non Malay living in a housing area, only my house has the Malaysian flag.. Other houses don't.. Yet they will tell that my people are pendatangs...
Just state the obvious.
People go out to buy stuff for Raya, Christmas, CNY, deepavali… etc
No one go out to buy new stuff for national day.
It’s a business, why would they spend money on something that targets no clientele?
