Original Content How often do y'all see cockroaches?

I just moved in to a rented room in ss17 PJ two days ago and I am seeing cockroach everyday around 2 per day in the bathroom despite killing them yesterday. It's my first time renting a room outside instead of my home or hostel and I never see cockroach this often.

Now I wonder is this normal in PJ? Any advise for me to deal with this?

More info: The backdoor is closed, windows are slightly opened.

TLDR: OP moved to a new place to stay, saw at least 2 cockroach per day, need advise.

Told landlord. Landlord say it's useless so only plan to use cockroach trap only

He says it’s useless because motherfucker has to pay, get him to call and pay for one because this is considered hostile environment.

How can I force him to do it? He literally told me I can move if I found other places to stay. (That's a popular place for students to rent so he doesn't really scare if I don't continue to stay)

I am not of legal expertise so I cannot give you any legal advice, but if I were you I’ll move, if the owner neglects you and threaten you to move he’ll do it again, next time it might be rats or mold or some other bullshit that makes the place unliveable.

You can set up a temporary solution (cage) and start finding a new place to stay, please screen your landlord properly next time, make sure they’re from a more affluent background because and are at least polite, newbie landlords are mostly jackasses that think they’re above the tenants, not knowing a tenancy lease is a two way contract.

Also remember to set all the cockroaches you catch in the cage free before you leave for your new place and dispose the cage, if the owner asks just say you lived with them because he provided no solution.

Sorry for my bad English. The landlord didn't really threaten me but more like offering me a chance to leave and he'll return my rent and deposit. He said he'll try cockroach trap but I'm not sure if it's effective or not. The place is pretty strategic with public transport and not expensive.

Doesn’t change the fact that he’s neglecting the issue. At this point it’s up to you, do you want a temporary solution (that might not work) or get the professionals to get rid of the root cause altogether (at your own expense because the dude is not paying), or look for a new place and potentially a more responsible landlord?

tbh I really wanna move but usually it'll a lot cost more. Not sure if getting the professional will help or not since I'm not the only tenant (there are quite a lot of tenants in the house and I feel like they doesn't care much about the cockroach)

There's an infestation somewhere, maybe the backlane. Best to call pest control.

He's taking the cheaper option.

Is that effective?

If it's one of those bait type with delayed response poison, it may help. Though best is still to spray drainage holes with insecticide before sleeping to scare away the little buggers.

Search for the boric acid type OP. It works damn well. Used to seeing 3-4 large roaches in the kitchen every night, after putting that bait in several places, no more roaches.

Hi there. I had this problem too. Don't use a cockroach trap. You need to eradicate the root cause instead, which is killing the nest. Put this gel bait at places you commonly find the roaches in your house (dark corners, warm spots like under the fridge, under the sink etc.). In a day or two, you will start to find lots of dead roaches lying around.
