Discussion "In Botswana, Delta Automotive Technologies plans to triple production output by 2027" Is vehicle assembly a good way to start an automobile industry in the country?

Unless they increase tariffs on imported auto(fully assembled), I doubt they will survive long. The China auto is taking the market by storm. To your question is worth trying just like Hyundai did.

Are African assembled vehicles not competitive on price with Chinese imports? If so, is it still politically feasible to tariff Chinese autos (given that China has recently extended tariff-free market access to almost all African countries)?

Will the tariffs be designed just in the beginning to support a budding automotive sector and phased out over time?
