Derevyanchenko deserves more love. When he was the mandatory challenger in the IBF, the IBF champ opted to fight a 154 pounder coming off a 2 year layoff & gave up his title. A year later, he would go on to show us why he was initially avoided & lose a controversial UD. He never got a rematch.

Wish Devy fought in this new Turki era. At least the guy would have got compensated much more for taking so much damage

I’m no expert but I was on a Golovkin kick recently, and when I watched this fight I knew none of the context and felt Derevyachenko won.

u/Professional-Tie5198 1d ago
It was late-stage GGG. Just not the same fighter anymore and only being held up by his excellent chin.

u/GarfieldDaCat 1d ago
Maybe people will think I'm bullshitting but I actually went to this fight live and then ended up running into Eddie Hearn at a hotel lobby in NYC roughly 6-7 months later.
Super nice and funny guy, we chatted for about 10 minutes about the sport and this fight and he told me that GGG had a respiratory virus for this fight which to me explained a lot.
22
u/CpnSparrow 1d ago
Thats common knowledge. He was very sick leading into the fight. Most people would have pulled out.

Yeah. Still a phenomenal fight. I’ve only been getting into boxing for about a year now and was surprised I hadn’t heard about this fight yet before I watched it myself

u/BoxerNotaFighterNow 1d ago
same guy, was always slow, never KOed 1 good opponent
Big Jab Show Only once someone punches back
GGG most overrated and i hyped him up before literally anyone

u/guylefleur 21h ago
Big ggg fan that feels he won both canelo fights but felt derevyachenko should b have edged this fight.

I said I had dev winning on my card and got absolutely piled on here. Still stand by it, close fight but personally had it for Dev

u/TheIrrepressible1 1d ago
Volume off and you see it was a mismatch. GGG beat down Sergiy. The nonsense from the morons on this broadcast was a joke. GGG controlled this fight and put the BEATS on Derevyanchenko.

I don’t think that kid was alive when I was bashing Avoid G@yf3ather back in the EastSideBoxing days.

Interesting, sir
Ignoring the commentary for Canelo vs GGG 2 helped me. Instead of listening to Lampley root for GGG and call phantom punches for him, you'll see Canelo putting the BEATS on GGG. Luckily, I have the entire fight downloaded with only noise from the arena and no commentary. I wish we could watch all fights like that :)
4
u/intentionalicon 1d ago
Yeah I wish I could remove the commentators from like 85% of the fights I’ve watched
2
u/Hat5875 1d ago
Derevyachenko did better than expected, but a declining GGG was still the better fighter that night.
IMO these fights are better examples of controversial outcomes:
Canelo vs GGG 1 should have been a win for GGG.
Canelo vs GGG 2 should have been a draw.
Mayweather should have lost the first Castillo fight.
Oscar did not deserve the nod over Pernell Whitaker nor Felix Sturm.

u/BoxerNotaFighterNow 1d ago
GGG lost, whenever he fought a decent fighter he went to Split Decision for a reason, Jacobs exposed him too
7
u/Alarmed-Effective-23 1d ago
Derevy definitely is champ level.
Oh. And newrap is pathetic and doesn't give a shit about dervey.
7
u/OldBoyChance 1d ago
I remember that one year stretch when he pretended to be a Canelo fan because he was signed to PBC, then went straight back to shitting on him when he signed with Turki.

I feel like there is a certain type of boxing fan that is easily impressed by a fighter being busy with their hands and feet, especially those little flanking maneuvers. Derev had his moments and he's a very solid fighter but I'm legit cringing at people who say he won the ggg fight. If it was amateur boxing - sure. But it wasn't. And between the knockdown and the visible damage inflicted, GGG won that fight.
21
u/Square-Variation9132 1d ago
What's with these one sided highlights, this place is becoming like a weird propaganda place
He was a good fighter and he absolutely deserved more love, but it appears this is more of a GGG bashing post more than anything else
GGG won that fight clearly, he won 7 rounds of this fight + KD, no way he lost 7 rounds of the fight, it was close fight, with a clear winner
Ultimately sergiy had a very short peak as a fighter and was seen as a high risk low reward opponent, GGG still fought him whilst he was past it and old
15
u/Professional-Tie5198 1d ago
It’s a newrap post. I like the guy sometimes, dislike him other times. He’s a partisan.
11
u/TheFuschiaBaron 1d ago
He also has an alt account in this post called TheIrrepresible1. Unless other people like saying "put the BEATS on"
1
u/Solidis262 Escopeta 1d ago
tbf, i do say that’s x fighter got beat on
1
u/TheFuschiaBaron 1d ago
A lot of people do, it's a real phrase. The second you said put the beats (plural and capitalized) on I'll go through stroke protocol.
3
u/TacticalGazelle 19h ago
GGG beat Canelo in most people's eyes, this guy is just being weird constantly cherry picking highlights that make him look bad.
2
u/TheIrrepressible1 1d ago
Scored this fight 8-4 for GGG. Wasn’t a close fight at all unless you paid attention to the brain dead mummies announcing the fight.
-2
u/BoxerNotaFighterNow 1d ago
LMFAO, GGG got beat up the whole time
8-4 the other way, G cant KO anyone goood, Danny Jacobs B+ level proved that to us, cant deal with switching stances, just a basic guy
3
u/TheIrrepressible1 1d ago
Please…he made Jacobs go from slugger to runner by refusing to fight GGG in the pocket. He knew the power from the first KD. He fought like a girl. We were looking for a slugfest and Jacobs turned runner fighting for the last 25 seconds of the round in a desperate attempt to steal the rounds.
It didn’t work.
1
u/BoxerNotaFighterNow 1d ago
lol Danny Jacobs was past prime, miracle he survived what he did and still exposed Prime GGG
he beat that boy, basic G
2
u/TheIrrepressible1 1d ago
Exposed….exposed himself as gutless in front of the hometown fans. Dude RAN the whole fight after his ass got dropped by a body shot. Dude did Brooklyn ugly.
As for Sergiy, kid got his face broken into pieces and needed surgery. His eyes were shut and took an enormous beating despite the idiots on the mic broadcasting a fight no one else with functioning brain cells saw…lmfao.
1
u/BoxerNotaFighterNow 1d ago
Least Delusional GGG fan yet
I told the world about Lil G before anyone, just a let down who ducked everyone for money and Clenenlo, 2 overrated bums meant for eachother
2
u/TheIrrepressible1 1d ago
I’m not even a GGG fan like that. Don’t be mad your favorite fighter pussied his way out of fighting him.
1
u/BoxerNotaFighterNow 1d ago
Boxers arent fighters so i have no favorite fighters that are BOxers, and i was a GGG fan anyway, but he let me down ducking Andre Ward and waiting aroud for Clenenlo
2
u/TheIrrepressible1 1d ago
Ward….lol….he wasn’t coming back to 168 after being at 175 for since 2013. GGG fought mostly for peanuts at 160 from early 2010. He was looking to get paid and pretty much waved away Ward because the guy couldn’t draw flies to shit and then he would have to move up to 168. Ward was talking 175 and GGG said nah.
Lotta nonsense from Ward and his handlers. But the fight really never happened because Ward spent most of his career putting people to sleep with his sorry ass fight style.
That’s his issue at the end of the day, not GGG’s.

u/BoxerNotaFighterNow 1d ago
GGG lost, more fake news, his fans starting to be biggest liars in Boxing
Name me 1 good KO he had, ill wait , oh yea you cant..Split Decision anytime he fought a live body
13
u/Rofocal02 1d ago
Ah yes the one sided highlights. Look at the face of Darevyanchenko at the end of the fight.
-5
u/BoxerNotaFighterNow 1d ago
GGG got 1 flash knockdown, and somehow won the fight after getting beat up the rest of the fight
Shows how dumb Boxing rules are, 1 weak ass knockdown wins you a whole fight of getting beat up lmao
13
u/MitchLGC 1d ago
Wasn't a controversial decision. GGG won a close but clear decision
18
u/shal9pinanatoly 1d ago
It was a controversial decision. I’m a GGG fan and it was way too close for comfort
2
u/MitchLGC 1d ago
No it wasn't lol
Fans like to give underdogs extra points. It was close but there's no way SD won 7 rounds
7
u/shal9pinanatoly 1d ago
I was here when it happened and I watched it live. Some people thought GGG won. Some people thought Derevy won. That’s the definition for “controversial”.
5
u/MitchLGC 1d ago
A lot of fans are just bad at scoring
People like to give extra points to underdogs or big moments but it doesn't work that way The three professional judges had it correct giving GGG barely enough to win
-2
u/DucksPlayFootball 1d ago
I would say the definition for controversial is where the majority of people thought the other person won.

Would have liked to see a prime GGG vs this guy. He probably ends up on GGG’s KO montage, but in a good fight.

u/newrap 1d ago
When was his prime sir? Let’s not undermine the skills of Chenko :)
6
u/Professional-Tie5198 1d ago
GGG? His prime was around the time he came to the US and he slowly regressed before even the first Canelo fight when he was 35.
:)
-1
u/newrap 1d ago
Prime based on what? What was the first fight that indicated he was on the decline?
:)
-3
u/MarcusAurelius180AD 1d ago
No you don't get it his prime declined the hour before he fought Canelo can't you see/s
2
u/TheIrrepressible1 1d ago
I thought GGG dominated the 2nd fight’s second half by boxing. I don’t see how GGG lost many rounds in that 2nd fight. I saw that fight at a bar without volume. Honestly thought he won that 2nd fight as well.
1
u/theHolyGranade257 1d ago
Derevyanchenko is one if the boxers who deserved the champion belt, but never got it. So sad to watch on the wide variety of belts and tones of random champions and guys like him, who got the skill, but also got into situation, when you should fight for the title with the best and lose by a close decision... For three times if im not mistaken?

u/aceknighthigh 1d ago
Really shows how much luck and the landscape in a division matters. Guys like Barrios and Rolly are not better than him but they were handed opportunities vs easier opponents than Jacobs, Charlo, and GGG with the judges against them.

Sergiy beat GGG but Lil G fans ain't ready for that convo

6-6 with the KD swinging the fight to GGG. Not that hard to score.
-7
u/kushmonATL Inoue and Crawford up next in Sept 🔥💪🏾 1d ago
IIRC GGG was getting battered from pillar to post every round after the knockdown
Curious to see what rounds you gave GGG in the 2nd half of the fight
-3
u/a_chicanoperspective 1d ago
Yup. Hard to believe those same fans saw GGG against Canelo and say GGG was robbed but that dervenchenko wasn’t lol
-2
u/MarcusAurelius180AD 1d ago
For them Triple G wins every single fight ever and its never controversial lol ( I like Triple G very much but there is an extreme bias towards him)
-1
u/TheIrrepressible1 1d ago
Boxing announcers today are a joke. All suggestive nonsense to create drama where NONE existed. GGG was never hurt by Derevyanchenko. His defense was immaculate in these exchanges. GGG was never in any danger of being dropped nor stopped. He controlled the fight and gave Derevyanchenko a beating. The faces of both boxers sometimes doesn’t suggest what really went on during the fight. Well, in this case, it’s pretty obvious. Broken orbital bone for Sergiy, cuts and bruising over both eyes. Kudos to him for taking a beating, but taking a beating isn’t winning rounds. He got his ass beat up in this fight.
6
u/GarfieldDaCat 1d ago
Was he hurt bad to the point where he was on the verge of being dropped? no.
But that body shot definitely hurt him at least for 10-15 seconds.
1
u/TheIrrepressible1 1d ago
It’s boxing. You’re supposed to get punched. Doesn’t mean GGG was in danger of even losing the round…lol.
-6
u/Doofensanshmirtz Bujia Zapata > Ricardo Lopez 1d ago
If fucking Derev could trouble GGG like this (beating him like some like to say) then i can't even fathom what people like Ray Robinson and Charley Burley would do to him.. madness

Amazing fight, and he clearly deserved a rematch.
