It was always surprising to me that Oscar didn't manage to get Canelo a fight at 147 before he outgrew the weight. Then again, Oscar has shown that he is absolutely terrible at getting his guys title fights, since he has never gotten a real title fight for Vergil Ortiz and was unable to mint Ryan Garcia as a champion.

Canelo was supposed to face Senchenko for the WBA welterweight title. That was what Canelo and his team wanted but when they couldn’t agree to terms with Senchenko they decided to fight Hatton at a catchweight for the vacant WBC light middleweight title instead.

Makes sense, though it's a bit surprising that they couldn't get negotiations over the line with Senchenko of all people.
