Fighters who stay standing between rounds
I noticed Baraou chose to stand in his corner during rest periods between rounds against Tellez last night and it had me wondering who else is known for doing this. I can recall Canelo and maybe Bernard Hopkins being two others who do this. Bernard said it sent a mental message to his opponent but what are some other benefits to this approach?

Keeps heart rate steady and is better posture for breathing
For some bigger guys like Foreman it’s probably less effort than sitting and standing back up
Or you can just be Sonny Liston and do it to terrify your opponent between rounds

During sparring you don’t have a stool (normally) and you have no choice but to stand.
In some ways the actual fight with a stool is an oddity - I’m surprised more fighters don’t stand between rounds as the routine should feel more familiar.

A bit unrelated, but in Karate Combat, after every round the fighters even have to literally climb out of a pit. That is weird (and maybe even more exhausting than just standing there, lol).

I assume it's so the cutman can work on your face easier, which wouldn't be happening in sparring.

I believe Big George Foreman (RIP Champ) did it during his “second” career. Not sure about in his earlier days.

He always joked that he was so big that if he sat down he wouldn't be able to stand back up

For some, standing might keep them hyped up. As soon as they sit down, their energy might crash.

I believe Liston used to stand in between his rounds and only stare at his opponents to put fear inside them. Only when fighting Ali, he took a seat

I was at the Lamont Peterson Danny Garcia fight. Towards the end of the fight Peterson as standing between rounds and hyping himself up.
Sucks cuz he didn’t get the decision, but I felt like he won the fight

when you already dizzy from punches and tired from the fight... you don't wanna sit down. the comfort of sitting down might wanna make you think about quiting.

Easier for your lungs to gain oxygen and blood flow to your arms. My coach makes me do it in sparring, as well as taking deep breaths.

Its really primarily a mental thing, the rationale being if you were to see the opponent betweem rounds standing you'd think to yourself "oh man, he doesnt even need to rest, hes not tired at all amd cant wait to get back out there" or something along those lines, obviously more effective a tactic later in the fight and/or after a particularly good round by the opponent.

Notice how many cornermen hold boxers’ trunks open while they sit? Even if they aren’t pouring ice water down on their junk too 😂 I assume the groin protectors impinge on the diaphragm when seated (Idk what it feels like) If that were the case tho…standing would avoid that problem, can be intimidating, and avoids entering a different state.

Sitting down shows weakness

IThere’s nothing weak about sitting down. That’s a nonsense take.
Had an amateur fighter once that before their first fight kept talking for months about how badass it was when fighters dont sit down between rounds and how they were gonna stand when they fought.
First fight rolled around and after the first round when we got in the ring their first question was literally ‘where’s the stool?’ Haha. Kid had a ton of cardio too but unless you are a bigger guy like Foreman there’s really no physical advantage to standing between rounds.
For coaches and corner men having your fighter stationary has some advantages too in allowing you to multitask your assigned roles easier between rounds as well.

I agree it's kinda nonsense. It's what I've heard plenty of coaches say. I don't think there's any advantage either way except it might have some psychological effects on some people. Maybe for some, sitting down helps calm their mind and focus.

What shows weakness is starting out the fight standing between rounds, but then staring to sit later on. This makes it obvious that you're getting tired.

Old school boxers used to do this back in the day. The logic was that if you sat down tired, it was harder to get back up so they used to stay standing and leaning against the ropes instead.
