Solved! I just successfully repaired 3 bent CPU pins

Posting here because my friends were unimpressed.

The plan was to change the thermal paste on my CPU, however, I found that the cooling block was literally glued onto the CPU, and my attempt to remove it pulled the CPU out of the socket.

I attempted to use a hair dryer and twist the CPU off, but it wouldn't budge. So, then I tried using a dull knife to pry it off. I got it off but then noticed 3 bent pins.

Using a small business card, I gently worked each pin back into place and was able to reseat the CPU successfully. Computer booted and all looks good.

Very stressful two hours of my life

Build Help Where is monitor tech these days? I've only ever used 1080p 24" monitors

Is it worth spending some money on a 1440p? Or something higher res, 4k?

I guess my monitors are 60hz, would I see any substantial difference in going with something that is more capable?

Discussion Should I give my boyfriend a monitor?

Hello, I hope you are all doing well. As you can see from the title, I want to give my boyfriend a monitor as a gift since he is starting his professional internship (his first job ). He is a computer scientist (the best of his generation) and, well, he doesn't have a monitor yet, so I think one would be very helpful to him. I feel that he totally deserves it for all his hard work and for being such a great student and person. I told a friend that I wanted to give my boyfriend a monitor, but she said no, that he hasn't given me anything that expensive and that it was too expensive and that I should buy one for myself because I don't have one (I'm also studying computer science, I'm halfway through my degree, lol). And honestly, it made me think. Honestly, I'm not rich, but I've been saving up because I want to give my boyfriend a nice gift to thank him for everything he's done for me (he's my first boyfriend and we've been together for two years. He almost always pays for everything when we go out to eat because he likes to pay and not split it 50/50, although sometimes I pay , hehe). I also know that my parents wouldn't like to know that I'm giving my boyfriend a monitor, so I'll probably do it behind their backs. I'd like to know what you think or if you think I should buy him something else (that's what my friend suggested, since my idea is to help him gradually build a nice setup).?

Build Help How good is DLSS and MFG on the 5070ti at 4k?

Im eyeing up a 5070ti and 9800x3d combo to get back into PC after many years. I just have a couple questions before i pull the trigger.

Is the card good enough for 4k? How good is DLSS really?

I’ve seen the benchmarks, but these videos can’t really communicate how DLSS actually looks and pretty much anything with ray tracing requires it. PSSR looks pretty bad in many games to my eyes on PS5 Pro but i’ve heard DLSS ranges from indistinguishable to really good on PC depending on setting. Does DLSS at 4k look better than 1440p DLAA for example?

Im also getting a QD-OLED 4K 240hz, and i know those framerates aint getting hit unless i use MFG or it’s an older or esports title which is fine with me but how does MFG actually perform cause all i see is people shitting on it.

And finally, will this card last at least two GPU generations at 4k? I know this one is impossible to know but what’s been the average lifespan of these cards the last few gens to at least keep regular ray tracing on at 4k 60+ with most settings on high.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for the help!!

Build Upgrade 5700x or 5700x3d for fps only

g'day folks, just a quick question.

Is paying an extra (around 100~200 more) for a used 5700x3d unnecessary for Overwatch and Counterstrike 2? I don't play any other AAA games.

Build Help Help with upgrading existing build

Upvotes

Hi all, I have a few questions / doubts about upgrading my existing PC, any help would be appreciated!

Current build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/blueflame316/saved/#view=MMfCmG

Potential upgrades: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/blueflame316/saved/#view=6yxZFT

  1. I'm unsure about the motherboard choice. Ideally it would have features like WiFi 7 and USB 4 but not even sure if I'll end up using those, it's more for futureproofing. But apart from that, I'm not sure how spending £200 vs over £400 is justified.
  2. I found a good deal for a Gigabyte Windforce OC 5070 TI (£679.20 + Borderlands 4 which I was going to buy anyway) but I'm not sure if it would be better to wait for the Super variant instead of investing now? I mainly play single player games, aiming for 4k 60fps.
  3. Is 750w sufficient for the new build? Ideally I'd like to keep the current PSU but if it's going to cause issues then I'd rather factor a new PSU into the costs now.
  4. I haven't decided on a CPU cooler yet. I'm not that keen on water cooling, I've heard too many horror stories about leaking and I'm not planning to OC the CPU. Open to suggestions here. This looks cool but never heard of the brand: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0DYZJYS2H/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A35K7LL08PLQLY

Build Help First Pc Build + Mobo advice (TUF vs Gigabyte) - Help Request

Upvotes

Building my first PC for just under £1000, targeting decent gaming performance at 1440p for 7+ years.

All parts on order, have ordered 2 Mobos as not sure which is best. Would really appreciate your advice and also if anything jumps out at you as needing adjustment. I can always return or change the plans.

Mobo: Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX V2 vs ASUS TUF GAMING B650M-PLUS WIFI (~£135)

As far as I can see, as I have a Mid tower the Gigabyte has more ports + a 3rd NVMe slot and wifi 6e (although Virgin internet doesn't do 6E yet) so seems to beat the SFF TUF at the same price?

I would have to buy a wifi dongle, any recs? Thank you!

GPU: POWERCOLOR Radeon RX 9060 XT Reaper 16GB GDDR6 : £314
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D: £200
PSU: MSI MPG A850G Modular ATX PSU - 850 W : £109 (Considering downgrading to the MSI MAG for £90...)
Case: Montech SKY TWO GX ATX Mid Tower Case : £55 + extra back fan £5
RAM: DDR5 32GB (2x 16GB) 6000MH/z CL28 G : £76
Storage: 2x Crucial P3 Plus 1TB PCIe Gen4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, Up to 5000MB/s (£70)
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 : £23
Heat Sink Liquid: mx6 £5

Troubleshooting Troubleshooting: nothing I tried is working!!!

Upvotes

My PC was working perfectly fine 2 weeks ago. I installed the new Windows 11 updates and everything was still also working as normal. Today when I turned it on, it was running normally, except the RGBs on my fans and display on my AIO weren’t working & the CPU light on the motherboard was on.

I proceeded to install all the new Windows updates, and installed all updates on Gigabyte Control Center for my motherboard and GPU. I restarted my PC, but CPU light was still on, and RGBs for fans and display for AIO still weren’t working.

I then uninstalled all application that had anything to do with lighting (i.e. gigabyte control center, signal rgb, icue). Problem still not fixed.

Now I started taking apart my PC. I unplugged the power supply, reset CMOS, reinstalled my RAM, reinstalled GPU, reinstalled CPU (pins looked fine to me) and added new thermal paste. Tried turning on my PC, but now there is no display and the CPU light is STILL on and fan RGBs STILL not working.

I tried to update BIOS, made sure to reformat my flash drive to fat32 and renamed the BIOS file to GIGABYTE.BIN, then I tried using Q flash button but the light won’t even turn on and I don’t know what else to do!

Yes I tried a new HDMI cable and new monitor, but I’m getting the same results. I don’t think there is anything wrong with either the cable or monitor considering they were just working a few hours ago.

If it helps these are the specs for my PC if it helps:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE B850 AORUS ELITE GPU: GIGABYTE - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti AERO OC 16G CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core, 12-Thread PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GT 850W Snow ATX 3.1 Power Supply; 80 Plus Gold Efficiency RAM: CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) Cooler: Thermaltake TH360 V2 ARGB Sync/AlO Liquid Cooler Fans: Thermaltake SWAFAN EX 12 ARGB

Build Upgrade ddr3l - G Skill vs Patriot vs Wilk Elektronik (GoodRam) - stability, less errors

Upvotes

Hello,

I am going to upgrade ram. Specifications DDR3L 1600 MHZ, CL11, 1.35 volts, unbuffered, non ECC, so-dimm.

The laptop came with a 4gb Samsung - M471B5173EBO-YKO but I would like to change to a different brand.

I have found 3 brands that are not expensive.

Passmark tests with links -

G Skill  F3-1600C11-8GRSL 8GB - PassMark - G Skill Intl F3-1600C11-8GRSL 8GB - Price performance comparison

Patriot Memory PSD38G1600L2S 8GB - PassMark - Patriot Memory (PDP Systems) PSD38G1600L2S 8GB - Price performance comparison+PSD38G1600L2S+8GB&id=2060)

Wilk Elektronik (GoodRam) S.A. GR1600S3V64L11/8G 8GB - PassMark - Wilk Elektronik S.A. GR1600S3V64L11/8G 8GB - Price performance comparison

I think G Skill has better benchmark results, but my doubt is related with stability, less errors and durability.

Can someone please share some reviews?

Thank you.

Build Help RTX 5090 arriving soon – what to check?

Upvotes

Hey guys! In a couple of days my RTX 5090 is finally arriving from the US to my country. I’ve never imported such an expensive GPU before, so I want to be careful. What should I look for immediately at the post office before signing for it? And once I bring it home and install it, what should I check to make sure everything is fine?

I’ve heard something about ROP counts being important, but I’m not sure what else I should pay attention to. Any tips or things you wish you had double-checked when getting a new GPU would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Build Help Need help with pc build

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/P7JZb2

Made the pc build, but need recommendations for what can be changed or upgraded under 1500 eur. I didn't add SSD's because I have 2 m.2 drives with total capacity of 2.5TB.

Current setup meant for 1080p monitor with upgrade to 1440p comming soon.

Edit: I need 64GB RAM for Star citizen since currently I have 32 and it's not enough. As for GPU I've had multiple AMD cards die on me in month's since buying them(new)

Build Upgrade What sould I take as second monitor ?

Upvotes

Hey guys ! Looking for a second monitor for multimedia use (Discord, web browsing, info while gaming, etc).

Specs: i9-9900KS + RTX 3090Ti + LG Ultragear 27GS95QE-B (2K OLED)

Should I go with 1080p as secondary (LG 27GS60F-B) or upgrade primary to 4K OLED and use current as secondary?
