The plan was to change the thermal paste on my CPU, however, I found that the cooling block was literally glued onto the CPU, and my attempt to remove it pulled the CPU out of the socket.
I attempted to use a hair dryer and twist the CPU off, but it wouldn't budge. So, then I tried using a dull knife to pry it off. I got it off but then noticed 3 bent pins.
Using a small business card, I gently worked each pin back into place and was able to reseat the CPU successfully. Computer booted and all looks good.
Hello, I hope you are all doing well. As you can see from the title, I want to give my boyfriend a monitor as a gift since he is starting his professional internship (his first job ). He is a computer scientist (the best of his generation) and, well, he doesn't have a monitor yet, so I think one would be very helpful to him. I feel that he totally deserves it for all his hard work and for being such a great student and person. I told a friend that I wanted to give my boyfriend a monitor, but she said no, that he hasn't given me anything that expensive and that it was too expensive and that I should buy one for myself because I don't have one (I'm also studying computer science, I'm halfway through my degree, lol). And honestly, it made me think. Honestly, I'm not rich, but I've been saving up because I want to give my boyfriend a nice gift to thank him for everything he's done for me (he's my first boyfriend and we've been together for two years. He almost always pays for everything when we go out to eat because he likes to pay and not split it 50/50, although sometimes I pay , hehe). I also know that my parents wouldn't like to know that I'm giving my boyfriend a monitor, so I'll probably do it behind their backs. I'd like to know what you think or if you think I should buy him something else (that's what my friend suggested, since my idea is to help him gradually build a nice setup).?
I was looking for my first PC and I don't know which one should i buy. My suggestions are
rx 7600 gaming OC (8GB vram)
rz 7600 XT (16GB vram)
rx 9060 XT (8GB vram)
different or some NVIDIA at this point?
I'm gonna play at 1080p.
Im eyeing up a 5070ti and 9800x3d combo to get back into PC after many years. I just have a couple questions before i pull the trigger.
Is the card good enough for 4k? How good is DLSS really?
I’ve seen the benchmarks, but these videos can’t really communicate how DLSS actually looks and pretty much anything with ray tracing requires it. PSSR looks pretty bad in many games to my eyes on PS5 Pro but i’ve heard DLSS ranges from indistinguishable to really good on PC depending on setting. Does DLSS at 4k look better than 1440p DLAA for example?
Im also getting a QD-OLED 4K 240hz, and i know those framerates aint getting hit unless i use MFG or it’s an older or esports title which is fine with me but how does MFG actually perform cause all i see is people shitting on it.
And finally, will this card last at least two GPU generations at 4k? I know this one is impossible to know but what’s been the average lifespan of these cards the last few gens to at least keep regular ray tracing on at 4k 60+ with most settings on high.
My current system consists of a Ryzen 5 5600G processor, an MSI B550 A-Pro motherboard, 32GB of TeamGroup RAM, a 1TB SSD, a 750W power supply, and an NZXT H5 Flow case. I am planning to upgrade from my Radeon RX 580 graphics card
My pc is getting old and i struggle playing even the simple games with decents fps, what component of mine do you recomend upgrading to achive better fps while playing games.
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz
RAM: 16GB
Motherboard: MSI BZ170A PC MATE (MS-7971)
I mainly play lowspec games like counterstrike and league of legends
Any help would be really apreciated since i know very little about computers.
I'm unsure about the motherboard choice. Ideally it would have features like WiFi 7 and USB 4 but not even sure if I'll end up using those, it's more for futureproofing. But apart from that, I'm not sure how spending £200 vs over £400 is justified.
I found a good deal for a Gigabyte Windforce OC 5070 TI (£679.20 + Borderlands 4 which I was going to buy anyway) but I'm not sure if it would be better to wait for the Super variant instead of investing now? I mainly play single player games, aiming for 4k 60fps.
Is 750w sufficient for the new build? Ideally I'd like to keep the current PSU but if it's going to cause issues then I'd rather factor a new PSU into the costs now.
I am moving to AM5 FROM RYZEN 3500X so I was thinking of going for 7600x for like 2 years then move the 9700x or which ever new cpu will be out got am5 should I wait a bit longer collect more money and go for 9700x ?
or will that cpu last atleast 5 years ?
I am a video editor and do casual gsmkng mostly Triple A games
Or i can go for 5070 this year and next year go for AM5 NEXT YEAR
I am a bit stressing my 3500x will not be able to keep up
Building my first PC for just under £1000, targeting decent gaming performance at 1440p for 7+ years.
All parts on order, have ordered 2 Mobos as not sure which is best. Would really appreciate your advice and also if anything jumps out at you as needing adjustment. I can always return or change the plans.
As far as I can see, as I have a Mid tower the Gigabyte has more ports + a 3rd NVMe slot and wifi 6e (although Virgin internet doesn't do 6E yet) so seems to beat the SFF TUF at the same price?
I would have to buy a wifi dongle, any recs? Thank you!

My PC was working perfectly fine 2 weeks ago. I installed the new Windows 11 updates and everything was still also working as normal. Today when I turned it on, it was running normally, except the RGBs on my fans and display on my AIO weren’t working & the CPU light on the motherboard was on.
I proceeded to install all the new Windows updates, and installed all updates on Gigabyte Control Center for my motherboard and GPU. I restarted my PC, but CPU light was still on, and RGBs for fans and display for AIO still weren’t working.
I then uninstalled all application that had anything to do with lighting (i.e. gigabyte control center, signal rgb, icue). Problem still not fixed.
Now I started taking apart my PC. I unplugged the power supply, reset CMOS, reinstalled my RAM, reinstalled GPU, reinstalled CPU (pins looked fine to me) and added new thermal paste. Tried turning on my PC, but now there is no display and the CPU light is STILL on and fan RGBs STILL not working.
I tried to update BIOS, made sure to reformat my flash drive to fat32 and renamed the BIOS file to GIGABYTE.BIN, then I tried using Q flash button but the light won’t even turn on and I don’t know what else to do!
Yes I tried a new HDMI cable and new monitor, but I’m getting the same results. I don’t think there is anything wrong with either the cable or monitor considering they were just working a few hours ago.
If it helps these are the specs for my PC if it helps:
Long story short I returned a stupid Amazon purchase and have $300 in credit to spend.
My current setup is AM4 platform, ryzen 5600x with a rx6900xt. I want to upgrade my cpu but you can’t buy the a 5800x3D anymore.
Do I just buy the next best available cpu or consider switching to AM5 instead?
Hey guys!
In a couple of days my RTX 5090 is finally arriving from the US to my country. I’ve never imported such an expensive GPU before, so I want to be careful. What should I look for immediately at the post office before signing for it? And once I bring it home and install it, what should I check to make sure everything is fine?
I’ve heard something about ROP counts being important, but I’m not sure what else I should pay attention to. Any tips or things you wish you had double-checked when getting a new GPU would be really helpful.
Made the pc build, but need recommendations for what can be changed or upgraded under 1500 eur. I didn't add SSD's because I have 2 m.2 drives with total capacity of 2.5TB.
Current setup meant for 1080p monitor with upgrade to 1440p comming soon.
Edit: I need 64GB RAM for Star citizen since currently I have 32 and it's not enough. As for GPU I've had multiple AMD cards die on me in month's since buying them(new)
So I plan to build my second pc since its been almost 5 years since my first was built, because I feel I need/want to upgrade, but I've not kept up with how component have changed over the years.
I have done some research here and there before putting this part list together but any and all advice/pointers is welcomed. If parts don't work well with one another, or if one should be switch out with something different please let me know.
My old pc had a 2070 super, with a ryzen 9 3950x, 32gb of ram. And these are the parts I was looking at for the new one.
I'm a complete beginner to PC building and decided after years of using laptops i had enough. But since I know nearly nothing about this, I need your help to see if this list is actually good and will allow me to run nearly anything with above average graphics. https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/list/BFPbfd
