Request for comments: dealing with outcome-speculation posts
Over the years, r/CERN has organically become a place to ask questions related to CERN recruitment. I think it's fair to say that posts that speculate over outcomes of applications have become particularly disruptive. It is also questionable how much use they are to the people making them.
Some possibilities for dealing with them are:
- A blanket ban on outcome-speculation posts
- A general rule forbidding duplicate/redundant posts in quick succession
- Restrict posting during waves of posts using AutoModerator and/or Crowd Control
- Some combination of the above
- No action, just let them continue
- Your suggestion here

Call from Slough, UK
Hi, I'm an Indian student and I've applied for some of the technical studentship programs. I've been getting a few calls from Slough, UK, and my sim's service provider doesn't let me pick international calls. I know Slough isn't related to Switzerland, but it had me wondering if it might've been someone from CERN. Has anybody else been getting calls from Slough? Or is this just another spam call? I've received the same mail that most people on this sub seem to have received.

askCERN Help me get into CERN
I have completed my bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering in India at a tier 2 college. I got 8.81 CGPA. During my college, I have done 2 internships and I wrote a research paper on prompt engineering (In my opinion, it was a basic ass paper) and published it online in Dline journals (Not even sure if it's a decent journal or not). I was a national player in badminton and also captain of the college team. I have certificates for 2-3 LeetCode contests and 100+ problems solved (not sure if that's going to help).
I have done freelancing in Prompt Engineer as a coding expert. I have worked as a business development associate in business consulting, and of course, it had sales lmao.
I then started taking website and automation projects (basically did vibe coding, read and followed all the documentation, YouTube, and built working websites deployed on vercel as my clients wanted cheap hosting). I still talk to many clients regarding the projects, but I have stopped taking any projects recently.
I applied to FAU's Master's in Information and Communication Technology (because Germany won't let me go into a CS course, as I lack credits) and got my admission.
I applied to CERN twice. One in a student program and the other as an early professional. Now I am thinking of applying again, as I will be a master's student.
Please suggest to me what the things are that CERN wants in a student, and what programs to apply to with the course that I am studying (I can also go for a coding project or database, or frontend). Also, let me know if I can get referrals from professors or someone working there? That would be a big help.

askCERN Can we start the technical studentship program after graduation?
Hi all! I've applied to the Technical Studentship Programme and I was wondering if it's possible to start right after graduation. I have one year left at university, and the results are said to be released at the end of November. At that time, I will still have half a semester left. Would it be possible for me to complete that semester to graduate and then start the programme?

Difference between University Graduates program and GRAE positions
What is the difference between Early Career Professionals – University Graduates and positions with GRAE in the title (for example, DevOps Engineer IT-…-GRAE)?
I’ve noticed that in older threads there used to be an open position a few times per year called Early Career Professionals – University Graduates. Now I only see Early Career Professionals – University Graduates – Spontaneous Applications.
At the same time, I’ve also come across some entry-level graduate positions with GRAE in the title.
Does anyone know what the difference is between these two?
From what I understand, it seems like CERN might now post more GRAE openings directly for a specific team, where one hiring supervisor selects a candidate, instead of the older University Graduates scheme, where you applied once, selected your domain of interest, and then supervisors from different teams could pick candidates from that larger pool.
I also noticed in older posts that for the University Graduates program people had to wait for a committee meeting before hearing back, which sometimes took 2–3 months.
For GRAE positions, how long after the closing date do they usually reach out for first interviews?
Never applied to CERN jobs before, so any info would help!

Technical Studentship 2025-3 Electrical/Electronics
I received the following email today, and I was wondering what went wrong.
Does anybody know if there is an email address I can send my questions to?
I replied already but I doubt it's the correct address (@).
Thank you in advance.
Dear [My Name],
We thank you for your interest in CERN and for your application for the Technical Studentship - Electrical / Electronics Engineering 2025-3. On this occasion, we unfortunately will not be able to consider your application further as according to the information provided in your application form, you currently do not meet the eligibility conditions for this programme, as below:
• You should be a national of a Member State or Associate Member State.
• You should have completed at least 18 months of undergraduate studies (bachelor or master) at the time of selection committee.
• You should not have been an Administrative, Technical or Doctoral Student at CERN before.
• You can stay for at least 4 and at most 12 months at CERN, whilst remaining registered as full-time student at your university/school.
Or
• One or more of the required documents is missing.
Should your circumstances change making you eligible for the programme, and should you still be interested, we encourage you to re-apply again for future committees.
If you think there has been a mistake in your application, we kindly invite you to re-submit it.We wish you all the best for future applications.
Best regards,
CERN Talent Acquisition Team

askCERN Should I change available duration on technical student application?
I submitted the technical student program application a week ago and put 12 months as the requested max duration. I specified my graduation date as December 2026 and mentioned in my application that I could be available starting February 1, of course now I realized this does not align with 12 months. When I log in to the application portal the duration is still changeable, would it be better or worse to change it to 10 months now? My application is marked as "in-review" but I have not received anything yet.

askCERN School trip visa query
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this matter.
I am running a school trip from the UK to CERN in October. One of my students is a citizen of a third country and has been applying for a visa from their country over the summer break. They have been in touch asking for an invitation letter from CERN, but this is not something I have been sent at any point or was aware of from any of the documentation I have been through. I was only aware of letters directly from CERN being needed in cases of employment.
Is this something anyone here I'd aware of pr has experience of?
Apartment exchange (Munich)
I just signed a 6-months internship offer in CERN starting in October. Even though I am very excited to work in such a prestigious organization, i think the apartment search is gonna be difficult. I was wondering if you guys got any tips or if you know someone that is doing something similar in Munich and would exchange an apartment for the time frame.
What apps can i use to look for apartments/exchange partners?
Thank you very much

Jobs not posted in LinkedIn
Hello!
I have noticed that there are some job listings visible on the CERN Careers page that have not been posted on LinkedIn.
What is the reason for this? Are they intended to be filled internally so they try to reduce the number of applications ?
Thanks !

Admin-Technical 2025-3 group info
Hi guys, the application period for admin and technical students has just ended. Yesterday I received a message saying that my application was under review and that this week it’s possible to be contacted or not of course. I wanted to know if you had any definite dates for example, if the supervisors have already received the names chosen by HR, etc. I’ve seen that sometimes people have quite a bit of information, so maybe this post could be a place to collect updates for the Technical/Admin 2025-3. What do you think?

Doubt regarding Technical student internship
I got to know regarding this internship at the last moment and hence couldn't get an LOR from my uni prof. Is it fine if I submit the LOR after the application deadline has passed, or will it not be accepted ?

askCERN Can you apply for CERN Summer Internship if you come from a Non-Member State with international co-operation agreement?
Hello everyone,
I have wanted to apply for the CERN Summer Internship program for awhile now and was recently looking at its requirements. According to this website, in order to apply you must satisfy the following requirenment:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
Sadly I come from North Macedonia which is NOT a member or Associate Member state, and only has a international co-operation agreement CERN according to the official CERN website.
Does this mean that I cannot apply for the program? Any and all help is aprechiated!

askCERN Am I doing something wrong or is CERN's new Car Sharing app unuseably bad?
The old service's app, Glide, was fine. Did exactly what you needed it to. (To be honest I never even considered the possibility that it couldn't be fine, the app does such a simple service I didn't previously know how you could possibly mess it up).
It had a map of CERN, you chose the time you wanted to book a vehicle, and if you wanted a specific vehicle (e.g. automatic, van, specific number of seats etc) you chose that, and then it showed you on the map all the vehicles available that met your needs, you clicked one and booked it, and you were done. If you wanted to you could even do it on your PC rather than your phone.
The new service's app, Free2Move, as far as I can tell, the only way to book anything, is there is a drop down list of every car sharing parking space at CERN.
You have to pick the parking space.
Then you pick if you want a car or a van (and you have to pick one, you cant be happy with either, and if the one you want isn't available at the parking space it doesnt tell you, you just have to guess)
Then you pick the time you want to book it from.
Then you pick the time you want to book it until.
And then, and only then, it tells you if that vehicle is available at that time.
If it's not available, it resets all the fields so you have to fill out the times and vehicle type again and then check the next parking space.
Then to find your car, Glide would just show you exactly where it was on a map and give you directions, while Free2Move just tells you the nearest building (which you then have to go look up on the CERN map because no-one knows all the CERN building numbers), and then it has a "geolocate mode" which I assumed would open a map and give me directions... Nope, it just tries to connect to the car over bluetooth and tells you if you're within 5 metres of it. If I was within 5 metres of it, I wouldn't need to be told where it is!
On top of that, it crashes constantly.
I can't understand why in the world Glide would be replaced, it worked fine, there was no possible improvement to it. The CERN mobility service says the reason they got rid of glide was because of connectivity issues:
This transition is part of SCE department’s commitment to improving mobility services on site. With innovative features, Free2Move will enhance user experience and solve connectivity issues by using Bluetooth to address network problems.
This isn't a problem that needs solving, every CERN car parking space has wifi coverage. As well I have never, not a single time, had an issue connecting to the car with the Glide app. The first time I used the new Free2Move app, I couldn't connect to it when starting the ride and couldn't connect to it when ending.
Am I doing something wrong? Is this just a problem on my end and no-one else finds this change from Glide to Free2Move awful? Is there something in this app I'm missing that allows me to see what vehicles are available and where they are without having to check every single parking space individually each one taking about 30 seconds to check? What in the world was wrong with Glide? What innovation is needed to booking a car from a service where you could easily book a car?

Experience level to apply at different roles at cern.
Hi everyone, I was just curious is it a strict eligibility criteria for applying for various category roles such as grae, grap and ld.can someone with less experience apply for grap or ld roles.and what is generally expected experience level required for LD roles.
