With 31 games left in the season, the Brewers play 15 games against teams with a record above .500. The Cubs play 3.

(I counted the rangers as a team with above 500 when they are 500 to not make the title wordy)

I know August has felt like forever, but with the series sweep of the Angels those hellish days where everything felt lost resulted in... a 12-10 record. Dating back to the all star game we are 18-16. Not elite, but actually a better record than the Cubs had during a bit of a midseason swoon in 2016.

During that stretch of games, the Cubs played 20 games against teams with a record of .500 or better for a clip of 58 percent! September will feature a number a hair under 10 percent in comparison.

So let's enjoy the off day, take a deep collective breath as an anxious fandom, and look forward to the Cubs finishing the season strong because every indication points to us heating up as our competition begins to fade.

Edit: I realized due to a comment while cross referencing i overlooked the reds on our schedule. We play 7 games against teams above 500 then for a roughly 22 percent clip. Still a drastic easing of the schedule but not quite as drastic as i thought.

Anyone know why Hodge is still in Iowa?

I saw that he hasn’t allowed a run since being activated off the IL in Iowa while pitching pretty much every other day, and I wonder why he hasn’t been called up, especially considering that we have one roster spot constantly in flux between AAA and MLB (right now it is Wicks). Anyone have any clue why he is still down there?

Time for a Suzuki reset?

Admittedly surprised to see Suzuki start today with a day off tomorrow. Caissie has shown so far that he’s capable of hitting at this level. And I’d argue right now that he’s a bat that really can’t be taken out of the lineup.

What’s the harm in getting Caissie more big-league ABs and giving Suzuki a little reset? Seems like a win-win.

RIP Ryne Sandberg. I remember him along with Alomar and Larkin being the three standout 2B’s in the late 80’s early 90’s. Those two didn’t have a 40hr season on the back of their 91 Upper-deck cards though. This is my tribute to him.
