Not USA Late payments reported on closed/paid off credit card

I’m dealing with an issue of TransUnion claiming my bank has reported a 30 day late payment from March 2020 on a closed credit card (closed since August of 2019), on my report for June and July of this year. It tanked my credit score 11 points. When I contacted my bank directly they’ve said that the account is closed and final payments were already made years prior, so there shouldn’t be any activity on my credit report pertaining to this account 5+ years later. TransUnion claims they spoke with my creditors and that the creditors confirmed these were missed payments dating back to 2020. When I’ve checked it, it’s said that the account is “open” with a new credit limit even though when I am speaking to them they say it says it’s closed on their end as well. Is this legal for them to be reporting these late payments after I’ve paid off the card and the account hasn’t been active in years? I’m trying to figure out how I can have these removed from my report so my credit score can recover from this as I have a mortgage renewal coming up in the new year

Not USA Clear score query

Does anyone know why my credit score would have gone from 850 to 943, back down to 850 within 2 weeks? I haven’t done anything different, no hard or soft checks. No late payments

Not USA Default

Looking for some advice please. I'm now in a position to apply for a mortgage, but I currently have a default with Santander which hits 6 years on the 19th of September. I have never missed any other payments, but my credit is still showing quite low. A few months back I was declined by a few banks, would this have been due to the default? I am currently over 75 percent on my credit cards limit, which I'm paying of in full at the end of this month.

Will the default coming of my credit file make a large impact to my score? Am I better of waiting till it comes of my file?

TIA

Not USA How to go about removing a default on credit file? UK

Recently had a stupid mistake which caused a default on a WiFi account I managed for my parents which I had during a time of no job. It ended in a default and annoyed because its such a small sum of £150 and I have long since cleared this amount paying it back in full. Whats the best way to go about removing this from my credit report, I'm considering a handwritten goodwill letter?

Not USA Capital One Question

Hi, I'm trying to fix my credit score with 549 TransUnion and 520 Equifax, I applied for a Capital One secured card with $300 deposit as limit. My question is should I max out each month and pay in full each month? Trying to get to 670 score and apply for bank credit card.

I'll say I'm not that bothered as I've already got all the credit cards I need and a mortgage, but this is just annoying.

Not USA CLI vs New Card

Love this sub and have read through the myths and the Credit Scoring Primer, thanks to everyone who contributes! I'm Australian so I think things are slightly different down here but I think the general gist of things is very similar.

I have the following credit facilities:

- $400 BNPL not used for some time, opened 2/22

- $3500 CC with main bank used for monthly spending, opened 9/22

- $4300 CC with 0 balance, opened 10/22

- $5000 balance transfer CC (0% interest promotion, minimum payment paid each month). Opened 4/24 current balance $2740

- $8000 balance transfer CC (0% interest promotion, minimum payment paid each month). Opened 9/24 current balance $6200

I'm wanting to take out a home loan in the next 6-12 months and I'm aiming to have excellent scores from all three bureaus to get the best rate I can. Ideally, I'll pay down some of the 0% interest balances to get those cards <10% utilization in the months prior to applying however, I may need the money for my deposit.

As a workaround, I am considering increasing the limit on my main CC to lower my overall utilization rate. Every now and then, I hit my limit in a month and have to pay some of it off prior to the statement being released so the benefit would be two-fold.

I am wondering if the negative impact of a CLI on an existing card is of the same magnitude as taking out a new card? From what I've read, a hard inquiry at this stage wouldn't be ideal considering I'll be past the 18 month threshold for AoYRA when I apply but I'm unsure if this just applies to new cards or CLIs as well?

Any advice appreciated.

Illion - 848

Experian - 761

Equifax - 840

Not USA Best way to rebuild my credit for a mortgage? (United Kingdom)

Hi, I'm 25, I live in the UK, full time employed earning £21,807 a year after tax etc.

I have 4 County Court Judgement's registered against my personal name from June 2024 - March 2025 for a total debt of £2,380. Unfortunately i did not pay these and they are now unsatisfied and on my record for a few years. My credit score is 635.

I also run my own limited company which will be selling homeware and furnishings, but i am currently awaiting a business bank loan to start trading.

Fingers crossed, in the event my business is successful and i make a lot of money, my goal is to get a mortgage on a house in the near future (2-4 years from now).

All things considered, what is my best path to rebuilding my credit file/report/score that i can start today so I don't get rejected for the mortgage even if i have enough income and deposit?

Should i keep using credit cards? Taking out mobile or utility contracts in my name?

Not USA Can i keep building my score/profile with subsequent credit cards? (UK)

Hi.

Background is as follows: I'm 25, I used to have a near perfect score of 993, but i never utilised any of my credit, no cards, no mobile phone contracts, no electoral registration etc (I'm in the UK). I got a CCJ for £704 in June 2024, and my score dropped to 636. I have since had 3 more CCJ's, Dec 24 for £284, Feb 25 for £512, March 25 for £880.

As a result of all this, my score bottomed out to a low of 300-something.

I registered to vote in late 24, got a 0% interest (6 months) Capital One credit card with £500 limit and started paying it off in full at the end of each month. I did this for several months and my score shot back up to 675 in February 2025, but it hasn't gone up since despite still paying off my card in full.

That card's 0% interest expired in June, so i got another (Zable) with the same limit and am using that but still nothing.

It's too late to pay the CCJ's. I now have 2 credit cards on file, should i just keep replacing the cards with a fresh one or will that eventually kill my score as well?

I have read about schemes, such as Loqbox, Pockit, and Wollit here in the UK, basically they give you a holding account to transfer small sums of money each month, then they say they report this to the big 3 CRA's and claim it can get your score up by around 100-200 points in a year. Are these legit?

Not USA Request for a credit for RP 250 km from the workplace

Hey,

So, here's my situation: I work in Châteauroux (in the center of France) with a permanent contract in construction (so no telecommuting). I have a friend who has a 20m2 apartment in central Paris and who would be willing to sell it to me. The price would be 150,000, while it's worth 50,000€ more...

But here's the thing: my workplace is in Châteauroux, a city where I currently live with my mother for free. I have about 20,000€ in savings in my account and I pay close attention to my bank statements (very frugal lifestyle).

I'm wondering if the loan will be accepted given the distance of about 250kms (2 hours by train) between the workplace and the apartment.

Thanks!

Not USA Credit statement before or after payday?

I’ve never had a credit card before and before applying I have one main query that I’m hoping people can help out with. Is it better to have my credit statement arrive before or after payday (≈1-3 days either side)?

I get paid on the last day of the month, so would it be more ideal for me to have my statement come in on let’s say the 28th of the month, so I can then pay off my statement before the due date once my payday comes in. However utilisation is already reported?

Or would it be more ideal for my statement to come in on let’s say the 2nd of the next month, so I receive my salary and can pay off my previous monthly credit spend before receiving my statement to keep my utilisation low.

Like I said, I’m brand new to the world of credit so any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Not USA Need help understanding balance transfer cards please!

I need to make a large purchase (£2500).

I currently have 2 credit cards (A and B), both with £0 balances. Both of these cards’ promotional 0% periods have expired.

Having done some comparisons, I am pre-approved for cards with a 0% balance transfer for around 30 months, which is great for my situation.

My question is this, would you:

A.
Spend £2500 on card A or B, then apply for a new balance transfer card, then transfer the balance.

B.
Apply for the balance transfer card, once received then spend £2500 on card A or B, then transfer the balance.

Any help much appreciated as I’m struggling to find much guidance online!

Not USA Why do I start my credit score so low? Should I stop them tracking my credit?

Hello, I am a 20 year old international student currently studying in the UK. I was curious to know what my credit score is, so I went on the Monzo app and checked it for the first time.It showed that I have a credit score of 561, i don’t what exactly that means but I am scared because I heard anything below 600 is bad. I don’t know I’m scared now, why is it so bad.. I have never even opened a credit card before. Should I press the option at the bottom of the app, it allows me to “stop tracking my credit score”. Should I do it?

Not USA Best Personal loan?

We recently applied to our bank (Barclays) for a small £2500 personal loan as we want to go and visit our Son who has moved to Texas with his job. We were declined, mainly I think due to us both just turning 66 this year, although we both work still. Our credit scores aren’t great, although nothing bad. We were naturally disappointed. Can anyone recommend a lender with a little more flexibility as I don’t want to go through the long process of searching online and impacting our credit scores! My wife’s credit score is better than mine so it would probably be best for her to apply. Any suggestions or experiences would be gratefully appreciated thanks.

Not USA My credit score dropped by 75 points

I have an HSBC credit card with a due date of 27th June. On 26th June around 11 PM, I made the payment through Amazon Pay, as I didn’t have access to my HSBC account or mobile banking credentials at the time. Since the payment was made via a third-party app, it took longer to get credited and was reflected only on 2nd August.

To avoid any issues, I had already contacted HSBC on 30th June and informed them about the payment made through a third-party platform, requesting them to mark it accordingly so I wouldn’t receive reminders or calls.

Despite this, the payment was recorded as late due to the delayed credit date, and my credit score dropped significantly—even though I had a perfect payment history of 131 on-time payments prior to this.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Can HSBC consider revising the late payment mark given the circumstances? Or is this something I’ll have to let go?

Not USA 10 months in the UK

This is my 10th month in the UK, l was under the impression that credit scores only matter if you want to buy big things or getting credits cards etc. My new landlord asked for a detailed report. My credit score is said to be poor. I haven’t missed any payment. What could be wrong?

Not USA Debt collection agency sent a letter with threatening to lawsuit

Hi everyone,

I just received a letter from a collection agency here in Canada. They're threatening to file a lawsuit against me if I don't pay a debt within 10 days. The debt is from 2021, and as far as I understand, in my province (British Columbia, Canada) the statute of limitations for debt collection through the courts is 2 years.

The problem is, I might have either made a small payment or contacted them within the last 2 years — I honestly don’t remember. I’ve read that this could potentially reset the limitations period, but I’m not sure if what I did (if anything) counts. And to make it worse, I contacted them upon receiving their letter and offered them to make payments in myultiple installments as I don't have a job and they said we can't offer the payment plan but you have 1 week to decide if you are able to pay otherwise we will forward with actions.

And after almost a month I received another letter saying "Please be advised, that it has come to our attention that you are employed and therefor may have the means to meet your obligation to this debt. We encourage you to take this opportunity to contact our office to further discuss payment options on this debt."

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? How do I figure out if the statute of limitations has actually expired or been reset in my case? Any advice on how to handle this would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Not USA Credit score jumping significantly

Hi There,

I’m recently 19 & I’ve had my credit card for about 8months now. I only use it for food shops/fuel & it’s paid in full at the end of every month and I’ve never missed a payment.

However even due to this my credit score fluctuates massively between the months and I don’t understand why. So over the past 2 months my credit score was at 881, & now it’s dropped by just over 150 points to 729. But I’ve also experience it spiking from months up 100-200+ points.

Any explanation/advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Not USA Optimal credit card utilization

Does anyone know what the most optimal monthly credit card utilization percentage (the percentage of total cc limit reported to the credit bureaus each month) would be for credit score gains/maintenance in Canada? According to RBC it’s 10-30%, according to Equifax it’s 30-50% (they said anything outside of that will negatively impact your score) and according to the internet it’s 1%. 😂 So idk 🤷‍♀️
