Troubleshooting Why can I not get Gemini to work on my machine?
Very disappointed that I cannot get Gemini to work on my desktop. I was one of the main reasons why I installed it, Would there be any hardware limitation that is preventing me from getting it to work? CPU is intel i5 and RAM is 8gb thanks
edi: although going to the url launches the web app and clicking on options and selecting launch in chrome also does not work, weirdly enough it works in incognito mode

If Gemini works in Incognito mode on ChromeOS Flex, that means:
- The browser itself and hardware are fine
- It’s not Flex blocking it
- The problem is almost certainly caused by cookies, cached data, or an extension interfering
🛠️ How to Fix It (so you don’t need Incognito every time)
1. Clear Cookies & Cache for Gemini
- In Chrome, go to: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and other site data → See all cookies and site data
- Search for gemini.google.com (and possibly google.com)
- Delete cookies/cache just for those sites
- Restart Chrome, then try again
2. Disable Extensions
- Some extensions (ad-blockers, script blockers, privacy tools) break Gemini.
- Temporarily disable extensions:
- Go to chrome://extensions/
- Toggle them off one by one → reload Gemini each time to see which one causes it.
- If you find the culprit, you can leave it off or create an exception.
3. Check Third-Party Cookies Setting
- Gemini sometimes needs third-party cookies for authentication.
- In Chrome settings, make sure “Block third-party cookies” is either off, or allow an exception for [*.]google.com.
4. Reset Site Permissions
- Go to Gemini → click the lock icon in the URL bar → Site settings
- Reset permissions (clear storage, reset site permissions) → then reload.
✅ Since Incognito works, fixing cookies/extensions will almost certainly solve it permanently.

Perfect 👍 Since Gemini works in Incognito on your ChromeOS Flex, here’s a step-by-step cleanup sequence to get it working in normal Chrome mode without having to keep using Incognito:
🔧 Quick Fix Sequence
1. Clear Gemini Cookies & Cache
- Open Chrome.
- Go to:
chrome://settings/siteData
- In the search bar at the top, type gemini.google.com.
- Click the trash can icon next to any Gemini entries.
- Do the same for google.com (to clear stale login tokens).
- Close and reopen Chrome.
- Try Gemini again.
2. Check Third-Party Cookies Setting
- Go to:
chrome://settings/cookies
- Make sure “Block third-party cookies” is off (or at least allow
google.com
).[*.]google.com [*.]gemini.google.com- If you don’t want to turn it off globally, click Add under Sites that can always use cookies and enter:
3. Disable Extensions Temporarily
- Go to:
chrome://extensions/
- Toggle all extensions off (especially ad-blockers, privacy, or script blockers).
- Reload Gemini.
- If it works, re-enable extensions one at a time until you find the one causing the issue.
4. Reset Site Permissions for Gemini
- Visit [https://gemini.google.com]()
- Click the lock icon 🔒 in the address bar → Site settings.
- Scroll down → click Reset permissions.
- Reload the page.
5. (Optional) Clear Browser Cache Globally
If the above still doesn’t solve it:
- Go to:
chrome://settings/clearBrowserData
- Select Cached images and files + Cookies and other site data.
- Choose All time.
- Clear data → then sign back into Google and retry Gemini.
✅ After this, Gemini should run normally without needing Incognito.
