Just finished watching it. My asshole was clenching for the length of that airplane scene.

Someone in my screening actually screamed during the submarine scene when the torpedo fell on him

Out of context this kinda seems like a commercial for a prescription drug

The entire movie was practically a commercial for Ethan Hunt with how much they mythologize and deify him. The action scenes were fantastic, but the movie goes on way too much about Ethan's destiny and purpose to nearly the point of parody.

This is a movie about a rogue self-aware AI that wants to wipe out humanity. What kind of a leading character do you expect here exactly? Napoleon Dynamite?

I think you completely missed my point. I'm not talking about what kind of character Hunt is. I'm talking about how none of the previous movies aggrandize Hunt nearly to the extent that they do here with all the dialog that's dedicated to it. It felt masturbatory to the point of being distracting.

That monologue from Luthor at the end had to have been the 4th or 5th time the movie goes out of its way to point how the world needs Ethan Hunt and how it's his destiny to save the world and how the world needs people like Hunt and how Hunt's purpose in life is to be the guy that... yada yada yada.

We get it. Shut up about it already. It felt like they couldn't come up with any better writing to fill the runtime with.

I mean when one has saved the world like 4 times, there's only so much the writing can do

That's fair, but it gets pretty ridiculous with how much they do it. Like I wrote in another comment, it felt masturbatory for the sake of enshrining the mythos of this character before saying good-bye, but they went overboard with it.
