I don't think SIUE will lose by the predicted 78-50 score that I read somewhere. The ML is +3000 and I could see if we lose but dang losing in a massive blowout? Painful

KenPom ranks of teams that Houston has blown out this season:

  • 24 BYU - by 31
  • 67 Kansas St. - by 30
  • 76 Utah - by 34
  • 77 Butler - by 28
  • 160 AMCC - by 36
  • 220 Hofstra - by 36
  • 240 Toledo - 29
  • 249 Jackson St. - by 57
  • 316 Louisiana - by 46

Yeah, it's 100% reasonable to think Houston would win this one by 30+.

Nothing is impossible. But Houston would have to have a nightmare performance, and SIUE will have to play the best game they ever played.

You aren’t being disrespected.

You have some bad losses, including conference losses to some genuinely unknown teams. Not only that, but you don’t have any wins against ranked opponents. The only ranked team you played this season was Indiana.

Meanwhile, Houston has four total losses, only one of which is an unranked team—and they’re in a First Four matchup today. We also have four wins over ranked teams. We won both the regular season outright in a power conference and the conference tournament.

There’s a reason for that +29.5 spread. You might be good by the standards of a low-major, but Houston is just plain good.

You are already a participant. You earned that by winning your conference tournament.

But as a 16 seed, please realize that the deck is explicitly stacked against you. A 16 seed over a 1 seed only happened twice ever in the D1 Men’s tournament: in 2023, 16 FDU beat 1 Purdue, and in 2018, when 16 UMBC beat 1 Virginia

Houston plays very slow -> fewer possessions -> more variance -> greater upset potential. I do think the spread is a bit exaggerated and SIUE has the best shot of any 16 but obviously still close to 0

I absolutely think it will happen

Houston is the weakest #1 seed and cannot be trusted, houston has proven this

I can see SIUE go on a Saint Peter's type of Run

so yeah absolutely

No #1 Seed Craps the bad in the NCAAs quiet like Houston
