High point cut the lead to 56-59 and had free throws
Then they missed them and let Purdue get a 1:55 long possession

79
u/akagordan Purdue Boilermakers Mar 20 '25
It was still a 3 point game when TKR hit that turnaround fade at the buzzer
47
u/CashMikey Northwestern Wildcats Mar 20 '25
I really love TKR’s game. Deserves way more national hype outside B1G circles, was glad he got the first team nod. Well earned.
16
u/halfbethalflet Mar 20 '25
I like TKR but he has big holes in his game which makes it tricky to evaluate.

u/CashMikey Northwestern Wildcats Mar 20 '25
College guys can still be totally elite with big holes in their game, he’s a great example. Doubt he’s got an NBA future, but if he comes back could easily be national POY next year (if people are willing to open their eyes to him being the best guy on his own team)
12
u/GoGreeb Michigan State Spartans Mar 20 '25
Purdue has absolutely no interior defense and that's a huge mark on his game, bigs need to be able to protect the paint to have a shot at a good defense.
→ More replies (5)17
u/BoilsofWar Purdue Boilermakers Mar 20 '25
TKR needs a shot blocker stretch big with him. That was the plan all along, then that guy broke his shin. Next year he's back and TKR will have someone to cover his terrible D

on to the next.

Berg did all we needed, highest playing time in 4 months and didn't really make any costly mistakes. Would be nice if he could hit a FT though

Michigan has self inflicting wounds that make them vulnerable but from an overall skill/athleticism standpoint they've got 2 7'0"s that are absolute freaks. Non power conference teams have no chance against Wolf and Goldin.
28
u/RheagarTargaryen Michigan State Spartans Mar 20 '25
A non power conference team should have had no chance against 7’3” Edey but sometimes shit happens.
→ More replies (1)13
u/jack3moto Purdue Boilermakers Mar 20 '25
Michigan doesn’t play the same style that purdue plays. Wolf and goldin almost never go iso post play.
4
u/OzmosisJones Mar 20 '25
No but they do run an occasionally questionably turnover prone pick and roll between the two. And the non-power conference they’re playing is one of the best in D1 at forcing turnovers.
Michigan will either control their turnovers and it’ll be a blowout, or they don’t and it gets weird.

Berg did have his best half of his career in the first. He did a couple of things that didn't make me yell, "Get him out of there" at my TV. Gave TKR time to stay out of foul trouble. Heide was good today too. They both helped us out. And Colvin's dunk will probably be a sports center top 10 play tonight.
6
u/TheTrueVanWilder Purdue Boilermakers Mar 20 '25

Braden Smith against the B1G this season: 4.3/8.1 2PA/2PM.
Braden Smith against High Point today: 4/15 2PA/2PM
If Braden hits some of the shots he normally hits, we walk away with this game. We outhustled them when the shots weren't falling.
They shot like 57.7% from 2 this year. We allowed 56.4% from 2 this year. They only shot 52% this year on 10 fewer shots than their season average. We just beat them in every facet of the game except making open shots.

I hate when everyone who doesn't watch purdue say TKR is a most improved player from last year to this year. The reason he started all of last year is because this is how good he is. The issue is that he's an undersized 5 and a slow 4 which didn't work well next to Edey. I don't think he necessarily benefits with DJ coming back and playing next to him. I think purdue needs a 6'10" PF that can stand at the 3 pt line and give TKR space in the paint offensively but can also play center defensively.
8
Mar 20 '25
I mean, Jacobson can definitely knock down the 3
It's not gonna be hard for him to play defense, and then stay out of TKRs way when he has the ball
