I like TKR but he has big holes in his game which makes it tricky to evaluate.

College guys can still be totally elite with big holes in their game, he’s a great example. Doubt he’s got an NBA future, but if he comes back could easily be national POY next year (if people are willing to open their eyes to him being the best guy on his own team)

Purdue has absolutely no interior defense and that's a huge mark on his game, bigs need to be able to protect the paint to have a shot at a good defense.

TKR needs a shot blocker stretch big with him. That was the plan all along, then that guy broke his shin. Next year he's back and TKR will have someone to cover his terrible D

That's fair and I'm not looking forward to MSU having to deal with it, but given the role he's in now I think it's something to point out in the context of someone saying that he's a national POY caliber player. Those guys don't have weaknesses, and TKR has a giant one.

Totally agree, and I have never considered him to be NPOY caliber. If he actually developed a jump shot or defensive skills he would be

That is coming via Daniel Jacobsen next year.

Hes a 4. I've never understood why Paint hasn't matched a big with him (like he did with Edey). We have 2 options now and a 3rd that got injured early. Sure, the 2 7 footers we have available aren't 'as capable' but with TKR at 4 they don't have to be Edey levels, just grab boards and draw D away.

Berg is everything Illinois fans said Edey was.

Burgess is a true freshman that Matt Painter (who knows more about basketball generally and his team specifically than we do) apparently thinks isn't ready. Given what we've seen of him in game action this season, he's not incorrect. He makes freshman mistakes.

So he pairs him with Caleb Furst. He hustles and knows how to play, but he's also not a center. He's not a great finisher at the rim, and I think he gets a tough whistle.

I'd still like to see them paired with TKR if anything for variety sake. But as you said, Paint knows more at this discipline than I.

You Ideally need a guy that can rebound, Block Shots and shoot 3s. Thats not an easy find.

As someone who has only seen Purdue play a handful of times, what are his holes? Outside shot?

Defense

Thanks, this comment caused me to look up his height because I thought he was 7’ tall, but looks like that’s not the case. Bought into the Painter big man propaganda

To be fair we have a 7’ 3 freshman center who’s a good defender but he got hurt at the start of the second game this season

The red head, Berg? I knew you guys had more huge bigs coming so I think I just assumed it was TKR.

No Daniel Jacobsen is the one who got hurt and has been out all season. There’s also Burgess so I think is 7’1 but he was injured today. Shin splints I think but he normally plays

Free throws

Sorta the lack of outside shot makes him hard to pair with a good defensivr 5. Really he a below average rebounder and has zero shot blocking ability. Its just a tough fit.

Thanks for the insight - I replied to another poster that I thought he was 7’…turns out that’s not the case. You can cover a lot of weaknesses with 7’.
