Discussion This is how you should schedule a non-con šÆāļø

I love this graphic but I feel like Memphis logo should be on a ball too. And maybe make it decked out more than the other balls or something idk I hate the white box

u/steveoriley Creighton Bluejays ⢠Big East 3d ago
The Memphis logo being set there makes it kind of look like clip art and I find it hard to read, but I appreciate the attempt
7
u/quacainia Texas A&M Aggies 3d ago
At first I thought someone added it after the fact, like an MS Paint copy paste addition

u/Billy_Madison69 Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
This graphic is like a college project that you put so much effort into, then realize with 5 minutes to go before itās due you forgot one of the most important parts and just slap it on.

u/irreleventnothing Marquette Golden Eagles ⢠San Franci⦠3d ago
Fr itās like they were about to post and then were like āwait where is our logo??ā

"This is a sick graphic! Who's schedule is it, though...?"
"....ah fuck."

It shouldāve been set behind the ānon conference scheduleā text on the blue ball

u/awt4190 UConn Huskies 3d ago
Well, when you play in a one-bid league you have no choice

u/zags-not-zogs Gonzaga Bulldogs 3d ago
Plenty of mid majors canāt and/or donāt schedule like this
34
u/drowse North Texas Mean Green ⢠Purdue Boilermak⦠3d ago
Yeah Iād like to see Louisville or Purdue agreeing to play North Texas in OOC. It aināt gonna happen.

u/GuyOnTheMike Kansas State Wildcats ⢠Wichita St⦠3d ago
Iām sure they would agree to it, but only to one game at Yum or Mackeyā¦and nothing else. Quality mid-majors donāt want to fill their non-cons with buy games against high-majors that theyāll likely lose. Beating good mid-majors (which on the road could sneak a Q1 win) will probably help a team more than losing five games at P5 schools when none of them are coming back to your campus next year.
Even then, Memphis still has four road games plus a four-team tournament. Iām sure theyāll get a return game from Utah State. I think thereās a good chance the Mississippi schools and Louisville play a return gameā¦but itās also a close trip and Memphis is in a bigger market than those schools and an NBA arena, which are two things that nearly all mid-majors canāt sell when trying to schedule tougher.

u/PenisProstate Cincinnati Bearcats 3d ago
Minor point of contention, but Louisville is slightly larger than Memphis in both metro area population and TV market size. Theyāre practically the same size though. Ignore unless youāre extremely nerdy like me.
1
u/GuyOnTheMike Kansas State Wildcats ⢠Wichita St⦠3d ago
Honestly wasnāt sure, but didnāt want to look it up and thought Memphis was a little bit bigger because they have an NBA team
4
u/HopRockets Davidson Wildcats ⢠Duke Blue Devils 3d ago
I mean Louisvilles non con is absolutely loaded this year
2
u/Affectionate-Day2743 Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
honestly i don't want to see North Texas again for a long time. lol

u/GeicoFrogGaveMeHerp Ole Miss Rebels 3d ago
Well Louisville isnāt a mid major.

Ironically, Purdue is one of the teams that Memphis plays this year, albeit in a MTE. In addition to the 4 Power 5 teams Purdue plays, they also play 3 teams from mid major conferences, so Purdue is not the best choice for your point. When Power 5 teams schedule mid majors, it is almost always ones from their geographical region. Therefore, you should be mad at Houston, Texas, Texas Tech, etc. for refusing to schedule UNT.

u/vikinick Gonzaga Bulldogs ⢠West Coast 3d ago
Yeah, like I think we're probably able to schedule some of these games because we have enough fans and clout at this point to make it financially viable, but there's no shot that like... USD could go to like Baylor and get a home-and-home. Like their biggest non-conference opponent (other SDSU) was Arizona State.
Nobody is willing to play you unless you're really good for a while or have a large fanbase.

u/Qwertyioup111 VCU Rams 3d ago
Can confirm, vcu canāt get anywhere close to this

u/2livecrewnecktshirt VCU Rams 1d ago
Our OOC schedule has been so disappointing the last several years. Almosy nobody is willing to play us at home. At best there's maybe 2 games worth going to before January.
2
u/Durian_Puzzleheaded 3d ago
Honestly last year may have been the exception for The American. Theyāve been making a push for stronger non conference schedules in order to avoid being a one bid league again and Iām beginning to see American teams engaging in more serious non conference matches across the board
3
u/awt4190 UConn Huskies 3d ago
Unfortunately the committee will never respect it, sadly. Love what the AAC has done. UNT was a wagon last few years.
2
u/Durian_Puzzleheaded 3d ago
UNT, UAB, Memphis, and some others are programs that should all consistently be contenders for a bid. Having to only take one each year makes no sense

u/TheBoilerCat Cincinnati Bearcats ⢠Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
Feb. non-con at Utah State? I LOVE that.

u/kamiller2020 Memphis Tigers ⢠Georgia Tech Yellow Ja⦠1d ago
It's so important too, hopefully it's a chance to pick up another Q1 game so we can avoid all Q3/Q4 games after conference play started like last year

Massive fail by Vanderbilt on their logo rebrand. The iconic star is gone and now I thought this was Villanova.

I remember when it came out Louisville media (probably pushed by Tom Jurich) made a big deal about Memphis being below them as they were in the middle of their pitch to the ACC.

From a football standpoint and the timeframe, he was absolutely right.
Not as hilarious as WV and KY governors arguing about who got the Big 12 invite, but close!

Memphis and Bama for the toughest non cons? Who else is up there close? 4 roadies at tough buildings

Arizona. They have UCLA, Florida, UConn, Auburn, Alabama, San Diego Stateā¦only the auburn game is in Tucson

u/Lee-Key-Bottoms NC State Wolfpack 3d ago
Like NC Stateās is hard, maybe top 10 in the country hard, but Iād still put it a tier below this
2
u/Old-Medicine-9315 3d ago
Top 10 is probably just going to be Memphis, Bama, and low majors. Yall do play a good schedule but itās probably more in the 50-100 range (partially depending on how your tourney plays out).
6
u/SwatsBlockman Louisville Cardinals 3d ago
Ours is very respectable as well:
- Kentucky
- @ Arkansas
- @ TennesseeĀ
- Indiana (neutral floor in Indy)
- Memphis
- Cincinnati (neutral floor in Cincinnati)

I think Dukeās non-con aināt easier than either of these.

Three roadies for Duke is impressive. I remember many years at the end of Kās career where Duke didnāt have a road game until January

Arkansas hasnāt released their non-con schedule yet, but I know Duke, Houston, Michigan State, Texas Tech, and Louisville will all be on it. Ā Only the Louisville game will be at home.

Houston, Duke, Uconn, Florida, St John's all have much tougher non cons than this

Iām gonna be honest Iām super happy with Milwaukeeās non-con schedule so far. It would be damn near perfect if the one high-major didnāt literally buy out of playing us in the MTE.

When your SOS is heavily weighted towards the start of the season, it's good to get in a tough game later in the year if you can. We used to do it with Gonzaga and Xavier a decade ago.
