Excerpt Kieron Gillen wrote the foreword to our collected series, and I’m freaking out about it

TOMB is four separate, yet thematically related stories about the fall of mankind. We’ve been working in it since 2018, successfully kickstarting every issue. Now we’re at the end, our final 36-page issue is funding alongside the collected edition, wich features 136 pages of comics, and over 50 pages of backmatter….PLUS a foreword by Kieron Gillen.

Benjamin Æ Filby (artist and co-creator of TOMB) worked with him on an indie anthology a few years back, and we were SHOCKED when he agreed to write the foreword. HE LIKED IT, y’all. I didn’t need validation from a legend like him, but when I read it, I literally started tearing up. It’s just very nice to hear someone who’s writing you respect so much to say something kind about your work.

Anyway, I wanted to share how happy I am to be working with Benjamin and how everyone has responded to this series. Check it out if you like:

Suggestions Finally reading again…

After years of struggling with depression, I’ve fallen in love with comics all over again. I forced myself to try about a month ago, and it just didn’t stick until a couple weeks ago. What did it for me was The Dark Knight Returns. Frank Miller at his pinnacle. Now I’ve started on Kingdom Come. Alex Ross is a beast!!! This art is top tier. Now, with all that said, can I get some suggestions from everyone here on what’s considered essential reading for a DC fan? Also, is there a tpb that’s a great starting point for a Spawn fan, as well? And lastly, what are some of Miller’s and Ross’s best works? Thanks a bunch everyone!

Question Where does everyone buy comics?

Genuinely unsure, I usually just rely on subscription services to read whatever I’m in the mood for at any given time. But I’d like to read the Deadpool/batman crossover coming out soon. I presume none of the streaming services will have it for a start. So my question is simply where do people buy comic books? I tried googling it but I see so many different shops I’m not sure what’s legit and what’s not. Any advice appreciated.

Discussion Podcasts that deep dive on comic runs?

Hello!

Looking for podcast recs that either review, discuss, analyse, or in some way dive deep in to comic runs.

I'm NOT looking for reviews on latest single issues, but more in depth appraisal of completed runs if that makes sense. Definitely doesn't have to be a review format, just interested in hearing people voice their thoughts on some runs.

Thanks for your time!

Question how do i remove this annoying ass price tag residue?

Post image
29 Upvotes

Today, I purchased some comics. Can someone me why the store decided to put the price tag directly on the book as opposed to the plastic wrapping on the outside? I’ve spent 5 minutes trying to scrap it off but it’s left this really annoying, sticky residue. Does anyone know how to remove it? It’s pissing me off tbh, especially as someone just getting to comic collection.

Suggestions Getting an 11 yo boy into comic books?

Hi reddit! I'm trying to get my nephew to read a bit more. He's not into books at all, and I want to gently introduce him to comic books, which brought me so much joy when I was growing up! I was thinking DC or Marvel or something like that, a character he already knows through movies might be a way to get him interested. He's very "dudish" gen alpha kid, likes soccer and videogames, doesn't get girls or romance, etc. As a woman, I found that the comics I liked when I was around his age are definetely not ones I think he'll like. So I'm a bit out of my depth here! I want to maximize my chances of getting him interested, and I think it's important that my first suggestion goes well, or else I might only convince him to give it a try again in a few years haha Any suggestions?? What did you really like when you were this age??

Question Need Help Finding A Moon Knight issue.

Upvotes

I am sorry but I have always been overwhelmed with comics. Never knowing where to start.

I'm looking for a short Moon Knight story in which there's a serial killer that carves an eye into the forehead of the victims. I have seen clips from the comic, I have the artists name, and I still can not find it. I believe it said it was called the Book of Dreams? If anyone can show me the title or cover art it would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Creator crossover comics nailing character design consistency

Upvotes

Usually when different artists work on established characters the styles clash horribly and you end up with inconsistent visual representation. But this fantasy series featuring streamers and vtubers maintains visual coherence even with multiple creators contributing to different episodes. The art direction keeps each personality recognizable while fitting the fantasy aesthetic perfectly. Production values are honestly better than some professional comics i've read from major publishers. Found it browsing storygrounds and the quality control across different artists is impressive. Makes me want to step up my own sequential art game.

Witchboy?

I vaguley remember reading this old comic called Witchboy. I dont remember much other then its setting (a post apocalyptic wasteland), and this one particular scene in which the protagonist, the witchboy chews glass and spits it out in the face of some enemy. I believe it was made in the 90's to early 2000's and other then that I have practically no information. I have been unsuccessful finding this anywhere online even though i am relatively confident in the comic's name.

Who took care of Bruce when he left to travel the world?

Just started reading Year One, but in the first few pages it is stated that he is 25 years old and has been gone for 12 years. And a few pages later it is confirmed that Alfred did not go with him... so how did he travel the world alone at the age if 13?

Your Favorite Non-Marvel/DC Superhero Title?

What is your favorite superhero title that is not from Marvel or DC. Note that imprints are okay as long as the book you are talking about was separate from the main company universe at the time (so you could pick Icon).

I am just going to go ahead and pick the obvious: Astro City. As far as I am concerned, it isn't just the best non-Marvel/DC superhero book. I think it is the best superhero book INCLUDING Marvel and DC.

ETA: For those asking, yes, for purposes of this question, Wildstorm titles count as long as it is before the universes merged.

Question Collecting trades vs singles issues - do you ever split them up or stay within the same format?

Upvotes

Hey all, I’m really new to comics and struggling to wade through the chaos of the hobby. I generally prefer reading trades or hardcovers vs single issues, but I love the collecting aspect of singles as well as the hype of going into the shop and getting new issues as they come out. In addition, this lets me experience all the twists and turns without spoilers while I wait for the TPB to come out.

So onto my question: how practical is it to have a mixed format collection of the same runs? I’ve got the Skybound Transformers trades and loved them, but I’m unsure if I should sub for issue #25 and beyond. How long do we typically need to wait for the trade to come out these days? I know it used to be a long wait, is it better now? How often have you been spoiled on a series because you didn’t read as the issues released? Does anyone that’s switched from singles to trades exclusively ever miss the “new comic book day” feeling?

Also feel free to share any general thoughts on this subject, I’m still trying to figure out what makes sense for me. I’m collecting the new Fraction run of Batman because a) I’m a fan of Batman and b) it happened to be selling and reviewing well and be literally on its first issue as I got into this hobby lol. As long as the quality holds up I plan to keep getting this in single format, but I’m unsure if I should do the same for Transformers or wait for trades to match the rest of my collection.

Also, bonus question, if you DO mix formats and then eventually want to pick up trades or whatever to match, what do you do with your old singles? Are LCS the best way to offload stuff like that? How much value off sticker price do we lose these days?

Thanks all, this sub has been fantastic so far so I’m already appreciative of the replies I know I’ll get for this!
