Would be so uncomfortable but a great place to stash everyone’s bags and jackets? Maybe?

Also a good toddler wrangling corner. They can stand on the bench and look out supported by a parent and not be running underfoot

I'll be honest, when I was a toddler, you wouldn't have had to wrangle me into that corner. I would have gone in there exploring.

I worked there a long time ago. We had a cubby like this near the front seating area/host stand that held the brown booster seats for kids. I wonder if this was the original purpose for this spot before they did a remodel.

As an autistic person that is literally my ideal seat. I wanna sit there so bad. Just me n my cubby.

This was my first thought too! I’d love to hide away in there, all confined.

I don’t think this has anything to do with autism and more to do with just a comfy spot

They're actually just cat people and are naturally drawn towards anything that even remotely resembles a box

Lol, when I was working as a stagehand pre pandemic I always slept under a table (but only tables next to a wall!) in the backstage catering area in my breaks.
I also brought a small pillow and a fleece blanket with me. Headphones in, hoodie sleeve over my eyes and I was asleep. Do I even have to mention, that I'm neurodivergent?

I used to sleep across the top of my twin mattress so that I was squeezed in between the wall and dresser. Idk why, was just comforting. This is my ideal seat!

Yes! Unfortunately for me I would have a panic attack if I was in a confined space

I use a weighted blanket which functions similarly.

u/No-Description-3111 1d ago
I dont like those, they make me feel trapped. But I know a lot of people with anxiety or restless sleep problems have had great luck with them.

If a whole weighted blanket makes you feel trapped I’d recommend trying a weighted stuffed animal. My aunt gave me one for my birthday and it replaced her as my favorite thing (99% joking lol).

I thought it was the inner child in me making me think that but maybe it's the autism lol

I made a joke about this seat in another comment but in truth I'd love this too. I'd sit there and balance my plate on my knees and tip my server generously for letting me

My first food service job was at an Applebee’s and I can almost guarantee that’s a small storage bench/nook. We kept extra menus, kids activity packs, etc in it.

The way the board underneath is cut, I'm guessing the original wooden plank bench broke and they decided to replace it with this poorly sized, padded one.

I sat in these as a kid!!!! Born ‘88, for reference.
Random to find, but these were indeed out there. It was nice not having to sit next to anyone while waiting.

Attack the coats and pocketbooks in there. Or let your toddler sit in there to color

Pile everyone's coats into that corner, eat a triple cheeseburger with a mega side of fries, wash it down with a milkshake and four or five beers, then you have a perfect little spot to nap in while you slip into a diabetic coma. Cozy.

That’s a crappy “redesign” because it wasn’t originally designed to be used like that. It looks like that was designed as a cubby to store stacked booster seats or maybe even stacks of menus.

u/anjo_bebo 1d ago
this isn't even a seating area though, it's a waiting area by the host booth right?

That is actually the Baby Carrier Cubby and I see no issue with it, hahaha.

Everyone in r/introvert would get a boner over this, but would want it taller. And with it's own little table, and a curtain.

A place to have a small child wait. Penned in by the sides and the person next to them on the bench. An easy way to keep the Tasmanian devil under control while waiting for a table.

My neurodivergent ass finding any possible way to squeeze myself in there. As a kid, you’d have to pry me out of spaces like this with a crowbar.

u/HardLobster 2d ago
Children, autistics, etc. would all love to sit there while waiting, this is an amazing design.
