Culture/Πολιτισμός Interested in a Post Card from Chania, Crete!

I have been collecting postcards from all the cities I have visited. I arrived back in the states and realized I didn't pick up a postcard from Chania, Greece!

Is anyone is willing to send one from there, please let me know In the comment section. Or if there is somewhere I can order online that would be great. Thanks!

Itinerary/Διαδρομές KTEL buses prebooking

Just wondering if all KTEL buses need to be booked in advance or just the Heraklion - Rethymno - Chania ones? It seems its a new requirement. Is a day in advance usually enough? Is it still possible to by tickets at the station or on the bus for routes like Rethymno - Plakias and Chania - Kalyves?

Itinerary/Διαδρομές Taxi from Heraklion airport to hersonissos area

Hello, I’m getting a flight to Heraklion airport that gets in around 22:00 in the evening. I’m just wondering if anyone know the rough price of a taxi to the Annabelle beach resort?

I had a look online for pre-booking and it says around €60! Surely this can’t be correct? Any help much appreciated. Many thanks

Hey everyone, I’m currently on vacation on Crete (near Heraklion in the east) I was wondering if there was any way to get to Chelidoni beach without a car from central Heraklion. I couldn’t find any reliable information about busses going there online, so I’m asking you. Thank you!

Food/Διατροφή Local/Traditional tavern recommendations

Where and what are some of the best traditional taverns in crete?

I’m talking about the kind of taverns that don’t break your bank and not too fancy

look traditional/old and have olive oil and vinegar bottles on the table,

and most importantly, have fried zucchini (kolokithakia tiganita) on their menu

I’ve been to greece before but a long time ago and now but im struggling to find these types of taverns anymore… am i blind or did something change?

Itinerary/Διαδρομές Elafonisi for more than 4 hours, group tour or transfer

I was wondering if anyone knows of any Elafonisi group tours or transport options (from Chania) that allow you to be there for more than 4 hours. We would like to walk over to Kedrodasos beach but that seems tight with only 4 hours there. Unfortunately private tours or transfers are out of our budget and we won't be hiring a car. Public transport looks like we might get a tiny bit more time, but still not much, and I guess I expect delays.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Itinerary/Διαδρομές What to do in Crete tomorrow?

Hi everyone, we have a free day on our itinerary tomorrow, is there anything we should be looking at doing?

We have been to see the Palace of Phaistos and Gortyna Archaeological Site today. We are going to Heraklion and Knossos on Thursday.

We are staying in Fodele and have a car so travelling a reasonable distance isn't an issue.

Thanks in advance

[Edit: Sorry I completely meant Elafonisi! I will repost this with correct details but leave this for anyone looking to get to Falassarna]

Itinerary/Διαδρομές Small group options for Balos / Gramvousa

We would really like to avoid the worst of the crowds at Balos so have ruled out taking the Cretan Daily Cruise option and are looking for smaller group options or creative ways to make a trip to Balos + Gramvousa. Problem is we are limited to public transport (no car hire) and would like to stay under 100€ per person. Looking to go second week of September.

The options I have found so far:

  • Blue Daily Cruises – I understand the boat is smaller (which helps with disembarking time) but also follows the same route as Cretan Daily Cruises so maybe follows the crowds?
  • Falasarna Cruise (falassarnacruise.gr) – Seems like a smaller boat that avoids the crowds? Not sure if you get the same amount of time at each place
  • Strata Bus Service – Just from Kissamos to Balos, so I guess no Gramvousa with this option, but more time at Balos

Does anyone have any experience with any of these options? Or any other ideas that I could try? I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

Itinerary/Διαδρομές October honeymoon resort recs

Hi everyone! My husband and I will be taking our honeymoon in Crete in mid October of this year, and we are looking for some resort recommendations. We’ll be there for 5 nights and would like to stay at the same place the whole time, taking day trips as needed. He’s big on the “resort vibes”- so private pools, beaches, etc., while I’d like to wander off the resort during the day, so something within walking/bus distance to a town would be great.

We don’t necessarily want all inclusive, but we won’t be renting a car so something within walking/bus distance to restaurants for lunch and dinner would be ideal.

TIA!

Itinerary/Διαδρομές Farmer protest 05.09. / Roadblocks

Important travel notice for Friday, September 5th

Cretan farmers and livestock breeders will protest on Friday 05.09. with roadblocks etc.

From 11:00 a.m. onward, you could expect disruptions on the North Coast Highway (BOAK), particularly around the Pantànassa bridge in Heraklion and also in parts of Chania.

What this means for travelers:

Roadblocks and heavy traffic are expected.

Significant delays are possible.

If you’re heading to the airport or ferry port, be sure to plan for extra time or search for alternative routes.

Food/Διατροφή Agios Nikolaos places worth visiting these days

Hey everyone! I came across a two-year-old thread about things to do in Agios Nikolaos https://www.reddit.com/r/crete/comments/16k01o5/what_to_do_in_agios_nikolaos/, but I'd love some updated recommendations. I'll be staying nearby at at the bay and planning to spend some time in the town. Anything new or still worth doing? Local food spots, beaches, recommended restaurants/tavernas or cultural sites you'd recommend?
