They would have probably won the drawn one at Gabba as well but Akash Deep and rain saved us

There was a post here a while back where someone ran the numbers - a third of the time when Australia have won a match the last few years, Travis Head is player of the match.

How many players would this or something similar be true of? Feels like if you bias the sample towards āat least one of your players put in a MOTM level performanceā you would come back with a much higher win rate than normal regardless of who it is.
I get that thereās a little extra oomph in this one because Head is so damaging when he performs, but it still seems like our win rate would be crazy in games e.g. where Smith scores a century.

England never lost a Test when Root scored a hundred until 2021 Lord's Test. Even now, only five of his tons have ended up in a losing cause.

He needs 8 more to go past Boycott. Not sure how, but he has no hundreds in losses despite the accusations of selfishness

Is this really an impressive stat ? Whenever someone gets a hundred their team is usually in a good position

"never" is an important word here. Having 100 percent no loss ratio when you perform is an impressive stat.

Not really. The way you score is also important. Some batsmen absolutely dominate bowlers and destroy the morale. Some other batters only make it harder for their own team when they bat longer (like Babar in limited overs).

In odis it is.. centuries are more common in odis sometimes we even see 4+ centuries in a single match.

I will say in tests one century doesn't really put you in a winning position automatically, anything can happen..
In ODIs absolutely .... Generally you will be put in the driver seat
In T20, it's pretty much a win most times..

sometimes we even see 4+ centuries in a single match.
How often does that happen?

The only relationship between a player scoring a century and the outcome of the match is how many and how consistently the player hits it.
Does anyone remember the stats that used to be posted about Joe Root when he had 15-16 centuries in test matches?
"England has never lost a test match when Root has scored a century"
The moment he continuously and regularly started hitting the century in test matches, his team started losing matches. Lol
Head is very early in his career, give it some time.

Till now Head has a 100% win ratio...

And I explained why.

u/Far_Fennel_1409 8h ago
it's a stats... throughout his career... He had almost 10 years in the Aussie team... It's not an early stage, it's his mid phase... If he carries such performances in future, he may maintain this record... And one thing is it's not about 1 format , it's both in odi and test..

Nope, there is 1 draw in there
1
u/ReadMediocre197 3h ago
That one is due to rain and one pacer breaking down in 1st innings of aus bowling

u/Far_Fennel_1409 5h ago
Yeah sorry my bad, 1 draw . But the team never lost whenever he scored 100+ runs.. but in odi format it's a 100% win ratio

Head is very early in his career
I mean, I wish this were true but it really isn't.

16 centuries in all formats is absolutely nothing.
Just because he made a debut back in 2016 in T20Is doesn't mean he has been constant in the team since then.
He has been dropped and not selected in all formats for ages.
He has been regular in all formats just 3-4 years ago, he indeed is very early into his career.
60 tests is a good number but 40 T20Is and 70 ODIs is nothing.

Iād reckon thats mostly a comment on his strike rate.
His hundreds are scored fast, which really sets your team up.

Impressive stats. Oh what's that? Australia has lost the 3 match ODI series against South Africa by 2-1 despite having Travis Head in all 3 matches?

u/HornetExpress5159 18h ago
Bro he is not some bradman
3
u/JFox__07 18h ago
I never said he was. But he is infact one of the most dangerous batsmen in recent years keeping strike rates well above 100 per matches in limited overs. I'm just stating the obvious.

u/HornetExpress5159 17h ago
Your comment seems like you are saying australia should win every match travis head plays

Why doesn't Australia get Trav to score a century every match, are they stupid?
