Sucks for the team, but betting companies are a plague so I'm glad they are hurting.

imagine it sucks to indian team, they'll totally be broke and unable to play after this.

It's the national team, playing the national game, under the sports wealthiest board. I'm sure they will be fine one way or another.

Hey. And they don’t pay any taxes.

9

u/EducationalPast7410 Kolkata Knight Riders 7h ago

They do

45

u/plimso13 7h ago

Players' salaries are taxed individually, but franchise profits and BCCI revenues largely escape corporate taxation

24

u/EducationalPast7410 Kolkata Knight Riders 7h ago

Sponsorship , broadcasting , tickets everything is taxed... Anyways bcci doesn't work for profit ... Everything is reinvested for pensions, ranji pay, ground , state association pay and all

u/partymsl India 6h ago

You are quite funny if you think that. A vast amount of BCCI money probably just "vanishes".

23

u/EducationalPast7410 Kolkata Knight Riders 6h ago

It's all public data .. u can believe wht u believe

u/LoasNo111 Gujarat Titans 5h ago

Yeah corruption still happens but it happens by taking bribes to give contractors certain contracts. Not like the old days where the money just disappears, far too risky to do that these days.

Maybe at the state level it may happen.

I basically mean they allocate some money towards a big project and then take off quite some portion of that money for their own greedy stuff.

Quite common and won't be recorded as well, for example they buy a Lambo and write it down as work purpose.

bcci doesn’t work for profit

Please tell me you’re joking or being sarcastic. Please..

16

u/EducationalPast7410 Kolkata Knight Riders 4h ago

Again as I said ... It reinvests.. there might be corruption in state level... But bcci is not a for profit organisation.... It even gives pension to players who have played ranji .. kind of insane considering even our central govt is unable to do so for people who work till 60 yrs.. u can hate how bcci doesn't help in spreading sports World wide.. but the way it's run domestically is very good with the no. Of tournaments , pay for local level men and women cricketers , and everything else

6

u/Outlander_TB Afghanistan 8h ago

well if not long term, they're definitely gonna find a short term sponsor before asia cup for sure

6

u/Darkken2 India 4h ago

im pretty sure that was sarcasm

Hockey is the national game

28

u/revengeordie007 Birmingham Butterkist 8h ago

No it isn't. We don't have a national sport.

7

u/gpranav25 6h ago

I don't blame you because a lot of schools still teach this misinformation, but it's not true

14

u/Different_Earth6310 7h ago

Forgot to put /s

u/amlamba 4h ago

The BCCI has a big enough pile of cash. If they have to go without a sponsor for a month for online sports betting to be banned, I'll take it. A no sponsor jersey might even look better.

7

u/Mourya23 Australia 4h ago

Nah mate. Now jerseys will look great without them lmao.

94

u/ShinobiZilla 7h ago

Good. What will be the next sponsor? Crypto? AI?

CoinDCX India

Perplexity.ai India

30

u/Responsible-Worry560 India 7h ago

Are Crypto companies making that kind of money in India considering that it never caught on among the general public

14

u/ShinobiZilla 7h ago

Maybe few years too late. I would think they aren't making that much money since of these companies are heavily regulated. It would be funny if BCCI turned to such types of companies again given their track record.

8

u/WrestlingFan4488 India 7h ago

I mean they have enough money for Gambhir to make an ad for them

11

u/Responsible-Worry560 India 4h ago

Oh yes, Gambhir who is famous for doing ads for....checks notes....wait let me google

Ola

u/friendly_skywalker 4h ago

perplexity.ai would be a cool sponsor tbh

u/Ghostly_100 9h ago

The richest board can definitely afford to go sponsorless. Would be an upgrade on how the kit looks

Jerseys that just say the country name rather than the ar name being bigger than the county name (Byju’s India or Dream11 India) are very nice.

83

u/pyrso1729 9h ago

I'm so lucky I got both the Indian test jersey and the WC ODI jersey both with India written on them rather than Dream11. Elevates the look greatly.

20

u/Avocadoslippers India 7h ago

Same I ordered them when Adidas didn’t have Dream 11. Then Dream 11 threw a fit with bcci and had it put on the jerseys.

25

u/CommandSpaceOption 7h ago

They didn’t throw a fit. Adidas released the jerseys when there was no active shirt sponsorship deal. Then the Dream11 deal started, and Adidas modified the jerseys with the logo.

16

u/Avocadoslippers India 7h ago

Huh! You learn something new everyday. I am sorry. Wasn’t aware. Always thought they threw a fit maybe because I despise the company 🤷‍♂️

1

u/vpsj 1h ago

WC Jersey can't even have the sponsor in the first place. ICC rules. I wish they make it mandatory for the team's name to be the biggest text on the front in every International match. The sponsor logo can go anywhere else

93

u/rmk_1808 India 8h ago

Hope Vimal Elaichi Pan masala does not become our next sponsor I know tobacco advt rules are strict but it hasn't stopped them from the non stop TV Ads

42

u/gpranav25 7h ago

Surrogate marketing is a plague

5

u/astrochimp88 India 4h ago

On a hindsight it's a good thing, cause given the sponsor record they will go bust in few years, and hence will bring a dip in the pan masala epidemic

7

u/dabyss9908 3h ago

New strategy: Pray for bad companies to sponsor BCCI, and hope they go bust and follow the trend.

11

u/rakeshmali981 India 5h ago

They are not that rich so don't worry. The next thing might be jio or adani I guess. I'd be happy if the next sponsor is a vehicle brand like Mahindra, Tata, Hero or Bajaj.

14

u/ResearcherLatter1148 4h ago

Dude they literally hired Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and freaking SRK for their ads. They might be more rich than we think.

3

u/thesillyawkward India 2h ago

That's because they sorta have to. Gambling companies, Alcohol companies etc always spend A LOT on talent. Sponsoring Indian team with a multi-year deal is a different gravy tho.

1

u/WeLivInSociety Royal Challengers Bengaluru 2h ago

didn't they hire james bond years back

1

u/mk235176 Chennai Super Kings 18m ago

Gazprom, Russian oil company

AI/Startup that'll close in few months

74

u/Blitz_GB 9h ago

Honestly their jersey will probably look cleaner - Similar to Chelsea FC who have no sponsors on the front of their jerseys

24

u/Helixdust India 7h ago

So I'm finally gonna see the jersey without sponsor on it? Fuck yesss

9

u/SouthTurbulent33 ICC 3h ago

That Jersey during the WTC 2023 final was beautiful - just India and the Adidas logo

38

u/pineapplesuit7 8h ago

Watch them get a pan masala sponsor next. They only know how to pick the worst ones.

-19

u/shan8tanu India 7h ago

Star, Oppo, Sahara were pretty good sponsors tbh, even if you disagree. Let's not get so negative at everything, it's just a sponsor

34

u/gpranav25 7h ago

Blud included Sahara and thought we wouldn't notice 😂

19

u/vpunt 7h ago

Sahara?!? 😯

26

u/sah_96 7h ago

It's a shame finding out how shady that company was and how many people got cheated out of their money. But at the same time I find that Sahara ICT jersey both iconic and nostalgic.

11

u/pyrso1729 6h ago

idk how that makes it a good sponsor, nostalgia is purely because you were young then and iconic because India won a lot of games wearing it

4

u/Vivaan977 Cricket Canada 6h ago

that plus i miss “sahara force india f1 team”

1

u/ayowhatinlol 1h ago

Thats because you miss that time, dont be blinded by nostalgia, sahara was crap 😂

7

u/Puzzman 6h ago

Not as bad for Dream 11 as I thought.

Deal was due to expire next July anyway and no break fee payable as it’s due to govt action.

6

u/everyoneisapotato India 5h ago

OMG!! BCCI will go bankrupt now 😱

9

u/thereisnosuch Gujarat Titans 5h ago

Cant wait for a tobacco company to sponsor the team.

24

u/Sumeru88 India 8h ago

Very good. Let’s now pull out of Asia Cup instead of playing without sponsors.

5

u/Naadamaya 6h ago

Time for Ola to sponsor and can't wait for Bhavish to put his face on the Indian jersey.

This means no more "My11Circle mein aaja" ads every 5 minutes during matches, right? If so, I'm all for it

Edit - read a Cricinfo article that said My11Circle has been hit too.

Please get back to Pepsi as a sponsor, Pepsi ads were so cool back in 2000s

Time for la mesiah Super Kings Academy to come in clutch

2

u/Eastern_Meet_5947 India 4h ago

Haha

How about circular logos from all IPL team owners surrounding the India name on the front like a emblem

0

u/SimpleAd9687 Cricket Australia 7h ago

Dang it Dream11 had a nice ring for all the memes! Knowing BCCI they will line up some tobacco chewing company as the shirt sponsor … lol

-18

u/Brad_shaw82 8h ago

Relax, nothing to worry. We have Jay shah, he will take care of everything. He's our "Bobsy the king".
